“I won’t bite,” he said, probably meaning it as a joke.

“Oh if only that were my only problem,” she sighed under her breath.

“What?”

She shook her head. “Nothing.”

She took his hand, slipping her icy fingers through his. The electric sparks tore a fiery path down the length of her arms, nearly melting the ice beneath their feet. She shivered involuntarily and felt his fingers flex.

“All right?” Had his voice always been so husky?

She dampened her lips. “Yeah…” The single word died in her throat as she was pulled towards him. Her heart tripped. Her lungs stilled. The heat of his body rushed over her with the subtle scent peppermint, leather, spices and smoke.

A soft mist blew around them. Raindrops glistened in his hair, shimmering under the pale glow of the light post. His eyes were shadowed beneath wispy fringes, but the silver in them glinted like pools of liquid mercury. Her breath caught. It must have made a sound because his fingers tightened. His shaky exhale caressed her flushed face.

“This,” he whispered so quietly she almost didn’t hear him. “Is why you are so bad for me.”

A snippet from A Secret Fate, Whisper Cape, Bk 3

My newest work in progress is A Secret Fate, the third book in the Whisper Cape series and I'm happy to share this short excerpt with you.  Just remember this is the first draft and has not been edited by anyone. Not even me.  Enjoy.



    For the umpteenth time, over the past week, Addie recited the words over and over again in her head, begging, pleading, Cael, please remember me. Please remember you love me.     Dragging her useless, helpless, and now rail-thin of a frame from the bed—their bed, his bed—she stumbled into the bathroom, hardly recognizing the person in the mirror. The sunken, dark eyes, her indented cheekbones, only made her brown eyes look larger and more recessed, giving her face a hollow look. Well, that was fine, now her face matched her hollow and empty soul.      She couldn’t work, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat. Gerry threatened to give her job to Darcy permanently if she didn’t snap out of it and get her rear end into the bar soon. She didn’t care. Why should she? Let Darcy have the damn job. She didn’t need it. She had her trust fund, didn’t she? Couldn’t face going in there, seeing all those people, everyone asking how she was getting along … without Cael—the unspoken part of the sentence. Well, how the hell did they think she was? She just lost the man she loved. Lost her dad the year before. Who would be next? Who would she lose next? Maia? The Twins who weren’t even born yet? Unthinkable. But, as the old saying went, bad things happened in threes. Maybe if she stayed home, away from other people, nobody else would die or disappear. Her family, friends, they’d all taken turns checking in on her, Darcy one day, Maia another. Gerry, Cael’s uncle Bart even stopped by. Someone, once a day would come knocking on her door trying to coax her out of the house. “Not ready,” she’d say. “I need time.” How much time would it take? How much time does a person normally require before they learn to cope with the loss of a loved one? Learn to cope? She didn’t want to learn to cope. Addie hadn’t had much time with Cael to begin with. She felt cheated. Resentful and cheated that she didn’t get to love and enjoy her soul mate any longer than only a few short months. According to Maia, Cael and Addie were fated. She and Cael had joked, laughing about it being a secret fate because of Addie’s secluded and sheltered childhood. Well, fate was cruel, wasn’t it?

I've been writing since I was a wee child and discovered crayons weren't meant to be part of a food group. My sometimes controversial rants have appeared in my local newspaper, the Asbury Park Press, and I've won several awards via the Writer's Digest 78th Annual Writer's Contest and the Philadelphia Writer's Conference. Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to publish in Parenting Teens Magazine, Good Dog Magazine, and Aim Intercultural Magazine. I'm currently revising a contemporary novel called Slick Trespass and penning the sequel to Dinosaurs and Cherry Stems, The Sugar Ticket. There aren't enough minutes in a day to get everything I wish to accomplish with my prose! Maybe I'll come back in another life as a literary octopus! My novel, Dinosaurs & Cherry Stems, is a humorous, contemporary romance about achieving mid-life adolescence, in spite of the baggage incurred with one's history. My Review of Dinosaurs & Cherry Stems:    “Is that supposed to be some sort of threat, Glen? I’m damn good at my job and you know it.”     He scratches his ass quite thoroughly. “Nope, not a threat, just practical advice.”
It was lines like this that made this book so enjoyable for me.

This book was very amusing, to say the least. I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud from a book in a long time. It’s an easy to read book, meaning it kept my interest and  I couldn’t wait to get back to it from whatever reason I had to put it down.
It was very entertaining, to go with Cindy, the protagonist, on some of her wild and most often weird dates and I cringed over some of them remembering some of my own. She is a character you just can’t help relating with, particularly if you’ve ever been through a divorce. At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read a book about such a depression topic, having been through the process myself. However, Susan Ricci has a way of taking something bad like divorce and all the crap that goes along with it and making it an interesting and fun read and I found myself nodding with an “uh huh” several times throughout the book. I became a little annoyed with Cindy at one point but within a few short pages I was relieved to see she came to her senses.
Glen was quite a character and loved hating him. That’s about all I’ll say about that guy.
Jay was a breath of fresh air and I’m going to go out on a limb and say I have one of these guys for my very own.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been through a divorce, both men and women. Men might learn something and women will surely appreciate the humor as well as the grief.

Love triangles abound, at least in fiction. We love to take sides and to root for one team or another. The Double Helix is a science fiction/urban fantasy series; it isn’t specifically a romance, but love is universal and forms the core of this story. Let’s take a look at the key players in this love triangle.
