Six Sentence Sunday 11/13/11 – More from Never Gonna Let You Go

Thank you to everyone who keeps coming back to read and comment on my excerpts every week. I truly appreciate all of your support.

More from Never Gonna Let You Go. (blurb here) Erik may be hot, but…

"What do you want?" His gruff voice jerked her from her thoughts. "You're supposed to be out studying those Tapir things. I'm not one of your specimens, so move on."

He'd turned into such an ass since his tryst with the commander. And still, Calla couldn't stop the desire that coursed through her as she stared at his half-naked body.

VBT: Elora's Match by Liia Ann White & Giveaway!!

Let me start off this post by saying – I have the best writing family I could have ever asked for. Without them my writing career would be non-existent!

I'm used to being the helper rather than the helpee (that's a word right? No? It is now!) which I love – I'm a helper. But the 6 people in my writing family have helped me in ways I couldn't have imagined.

When I finished my first draft of Elora's Match I knew it was bad. Not a terrible story, but my writing style needed a LOT of work. I submitted it to a couple of publishers and agents in the hopes of getting some feedback and luckily, I did. I got three R&Rs (that's revise and resubmit for the non-lazy geeks out there) from two epublishers and an agent. They all told me the plot was great, but I needed to work on my writing style. Problem was, I had absolutely no idea where to start.

Then came my saviour – Stacey Kennedy. We were friends on facebook and twitter, so when I put the call out for a mentor, she stuck up her hand. Even though she was incredibly busy with her own writing, revisions, editing and releases, she offered to help out of the goodness of her heart. She read my story, taught me where my writing could be improved, what I was doing wrong and read my revisions. Five long months later, I had the Elora's Match we have today.

I'm sure if Stacey knew it would take so long and be so much work for her she'd have run miles away from me, but I'm glad she didn't. To this day, I have no idea why she offered to help me, but I am SO incredibly grateful she did. One day I'm going to meet her and give her the biggest hug she's ever received.

I'll forever be grateful for her generosity, kindness and honesty. She taught me so much within a few short months and I definitely wouldn't be a published author today without her.

Throughout the time of my revisions for Elora's Match, there was someone always there listening to my rants, letting me vent and offering a helping hand – even doing a selfless beta read for me – and that person is Rebecca Royce. She helped me with my submissions for EM, including beta reads of my blurb and synopsis, as well as advice on how I could handle my rejections. Luckily I didn't receive any, but instead received 5 contract offers.

A couple of months ago, we happened to be looking for critique partners (CPs) at the same time. And I'm so glad the fates organised things that way, because Rebecca has been the greatest CP I could ever have hoped for. She's patient, honest and listens to the rants of a crazy Aussie who sometimes rambles just for the sake of rambling! Oh and she's my title wench. :) I wrote One Hot Australian Night because of her and took the title she suggested. She's a wonderful friend, CP and all-round woman. My life is better for having her in it.

There are 4 others that round out my writing family. Lisa Fox, Sara Brookes, Graylin Fox and Layna Pimentel. I relieve my stresses, vent, rant, rave, brag, joke and act like the crazy random weirdo Aussie that I am and they still hang around!

They all let me bounce ideas off them, pick me up when I'm having a bad day, help me sort out any problems – particularly difficult sentences that I just can't figure out, a character flaw that isn't working, a plot line that doesn't make sense – or help me when I'm having trouble with decision making. And they know I'm always here to help whenever I can.

All six of these women have been great friends, supporters, advisors, critics and psychologists (it's funny because one of them actually is!) to me. And every single one of them has had an impact on my writing career and has helped me become the writer – and person – I am today.

I've only met two of them in person so far – Rebecca and Lisa – but count them as real friends, as well as my writing family.

I am so lucky to have these women in my lives and love them all dearly.

AUTHOR GIVEAWAY:  Liia Ann White will be giving away a $25 GC to Amazon.com to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour — Be sure to follow the tour and comment; the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. The tour dates can be found here:  http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2011/10/virtual-book-tour-eloras-match-by-liia.html

Elora's Match Blurb:

Elora's parents mysteriously disappeared when she was fifteen. She vowed to find answers – discover what really happened to them. But after twenty-five years of travelling the world she has come up empty handed. Feeling tired and lonely, she settles down in the city her best friend, Caleb, calls home. To lead a regular human existence for a while; like he does.

One problem; they're not human. They're Different – a rare supernatural race known for their beauty, strength and supernatural abilities.

Elora is lead to a man by a series of visions. Cue Kadin; powerful, sexy and also Different. He is her match – her soul-mate. Her life has never felt so complete.

But it's not all good news. Elora must now deal with a rogue demon Elder hell-bent on taking over Lucifer's reign over Hell. To succeed she needs to steal Elora's power. When she's facing the fight of her life, can Elora really trust Kadin?

Excerpt:

An almost audible buzzing erupted in the back of my mind, the same sensation I had in my visions.

Kadin.

He appeared before me, looking as physically perfect as ever. His dark hair fell over his face. The smooth outline of his jaw off set his symmetrical features. Those flawless, full lips spread into a smile, and his teal eyes bored into my own.

"Elora," he said with a smile, his velvet smooth voice caressing my skin. I felt myself drawn to him. There was an invisible connection between us, making me want to cling to him. To run my fingers through that thick hair of his, trace the contours of his broad chest, and kiss those luscious lips. Lust burned within me like never before.

I forced myself to ignore it, instead eyeing him warily. "What are you doing here?"

"That was quite a show." He chuckled lightly. "I was going to jump in, but I see you can handle yourself."

"What are you doing here?" I repeated, in no mood for games.

Clasping his hands behind his back, he took a few steps toward me. "Those two have been following me for a few weeks now." He gestured to where the pile of ash once was. "They stopped tonight, so I tracked them here where they attacked you."

"Why have they been following you?"

"I'm not sure." He pursed his lips. "I followed them tonight, thinking they were going back to their controller. Apparently, I was wrong."

"Why are you really here?"

"I just told you."

"What if I don't believe you?"

Six Sentence Sunday: 11/06/11 – Never Gonna Let You Go

Thank you to everyone who keeps coming back to read and comment on my excerpts every week. I appreciate all of your support.

I just started edits for Never Gonna Let You Go, so I thought I'd share with you the first six lines. (blurb here)

If only I could touch his sexy body again.

Standing at the edge of the camp, Calla Jacobs couldn't stop staring at the toned and tanned body of Erik Edwards, Aerospace Mechanic for mission SFAE-3, as he worked to repair the core drill. She tried to tear her gaze away, willed her feet to move so she could get to the plains of Airondelle, but it just didn't happen. Sweat trickled down the center of his back. She closed her eyes to breathe in his pure, masculine scent. The memory from years ago, of running her hands across the wide expanse of his back and through his thick, blond curls, only made things worse.
