She is often distracted by Erik Edwards, Aerospace Engineer and her former best friend and lover, even though his recent attitude toward her has been cold. Erik quickly learns of the relationship and confronts Melina. Bitter words are exchanged between the two, leaving Calla hurt by the two people she's ever had strong feelings for. Erik finds Calla to apologize and explain his recent behaviour, but a previous injury sends Calla back to the medical tent until the end of the mission. Six Sentence Sunday 10/23/11 – More from Unknown Futures: Flavia takes Jewel around the space station

Thank you to everyone who keeps coming back to read and comment on my excerpts every week. I appreciate all of your support.

This week I'm going to share another excerpt from Unknown Futures. It is contracted with Decadent Publishing as part of their 1 Night stand line. Blurb here. Here, Flavia (or V) is explaining to Jewel how they get around the space station.

V stopped, her arms dropping back to her sides. "We're about to go in the tube. It's a transportation system for getting around the station. I admit, it feels really weird, but it's the fastest way to my apartment." She smiled and waved to a giant bug who seemed to have dropped from the sky before skittering off down the hall. "Since you've never used the tube before, I'm going to hold your hands and we'll go through together."

And just so you know, Frey does really care about Jewel as revealed later in this story.

Visit http://www.sixsunday.com/ to find out who's participating in Six Sentence Sunday this week or follow the #sixsunday hashtag on twitter.

Thank you to Drea Becraft for hosting this event!

[image error]Meet Frey Berger

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline's popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Meet Carrie Cooper

Carrie Cooper's husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Join them on their date…

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn't human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

Science Fiction Romance: How do you "do" aliens?

[image error]Okay, I know the title sounds sexual, but that's part of the post.

I want to talk about writing aliens. I know there's more to Science Fiction Romance (SFR) than just aliens, and have some SFR manuscripts not including aliens, but today, I'm talking aliens.

Now, in SFR there seems to be two sides of the coin: those who say if life on other planets exist, there is very little chance that aliens would be humanoid, and others who write aliens to resemble humans to keep them relatable.

[image error]Me? Well, the aliens in my stories are humanoid. While I don't disagree with the other opinion, there is a reason I write fiction.

I can't say all of the aliens in my stories are humanoid though, mostly just the heroes or heroines. It makes their passionate moments much easier to write.

And here's a description of some of the humanoid aliens from my stories:

The Ginnunians

He smiled, some of his confidence back while his human image flickered for a few seconds before completely disappearing. Unsure what to expect, she tried not to judge until she'd set eyes on his entire figure. Long, spindly fingers intertwined with hers. He tried to let go, but she held them tight. His body appeared taller and leaner than before. She saw the same black eyes, a less prominent nose and barely visible ears. His hair became jet black and appeared longer and curlier than before. Underneath luminescent scales, his skin shone a light blue.

"So, what do you think?" His mouth quirked, revealing his uncertainty.

Except for their color, his lips were the only thing that didn't change. She leaned towards him, wondering if they would still feel the same. She had to stand on the tips of her toes to reach him, but wrapping her arms around his neck helped. The feel of his skin surprised her. Perhaps he didn't have scales, but the pattern lay beneath his skin.

He's beautiful.

- Frey from Celestial Seduction, now available from Decadent Publishing.

The Hemera

He wanted to touch her again, feel her under him. He looked back up to see the flush of her cheeks. "Sorry, but you look amazing."

Her cheeks reddened further and he looked to the floor. That's when he noticed her toes. "You have webbed feet?"

"Yeah, so? You do, too."

Thoughts spun through his mind, Lindsay's curves forgotten.

"What?" she asked. "Are they too freakish for you?"

"No." He met her sudden glare. "It's just…why did I not notice them before?"

- Lindsay and Quinn from The Zurian Child, coming soon to Silver Publishing

The Phanties

Jewel pulled away with the looming presence beside them.

Flavia held her hand, wanting to maintain their connection, never planning to let her go. She would deal with the situation then finish what Jewel had started. "What do you want, Gar?"

"You, bootiful human and da new one, too." The whites of his eyes glowed read and alcohol-laced sweat coated his grey skin.

"You've had one too many fizzers. Go away. We're not interested." And she never would be.

He pulled out his arousal.

Jewel gasped.

Phanties were known all over the universe for having the biggest cocks. But she'd never been curious enough to find out for herself.

- Jewel and Flavia, and Gar (a minor character) in Unknown Futures, coming soon to Decadent Publishing

So, how do you do aliens? Do you prefer them humanoid or do you take a more scientific approach?

Rewriting isn't easy but may be necessary

Currently, I have two projects on the go, one of them being rewriting an entire novel. Why am I doing this? Well, for many reasons, but to sum it up: The manuscript sucks!

That's a really hard thing to say, but it's the truth. The manuscript I'm currently rewriting is the very first thing I ever wrote. I've changed it many times, but it still doesn't work. Since I wrote it though, I've connected with so many great authors, and learned so much from them and my fabulous editor for Celestial Seduction, Valerie Mann.

Taking everything I've learned, I'm keeping the major plot points, but rewriting EVERYTHING! And I LOVE the results.

How about you? Have you ever had to rewrite something? I'm not talking revisions here. I mean, a total rewrite. Was it hard? If you haven't done this, would you consider rewriting your manuscript?

All the best!

Interview with Erin from Liz Crowe's The Tap Room – Hot men and tension included!

Erin, thank you for visiting today and bringing all of these hot men with you! To start, can you introduce them?

"Thanks Jessica.  Believe me, it was…ah…challenging rounding them all up again but they were eager to meet you. The tall blond one on the phone over there is Bradley Jefferson my ex-husband."

(Extremely tall good-looking man with slicked back blonde hair and blue eyes waves from the corner)

"This one" (tugs sexy guy in a suit with dark hair and blue eyes forward) "is Trent Franklin.  He's the founder of the Winter Street Brewing Co. and an old friend."

(Smacks his arm away) "Keep your hands to yourself please. You have a girlfriend, remember?"

(He shrugs and pats her on the head before moving aside for a couple of blond guys with smirks on their handsome faces, both wearing Winter Street Brewing Co. tees that hug some pretty impressive torsos.  And jeans that look so soft and broken in you really really want to reach out and touch…)

"This is Owen Maxwell, my other business partner.  Watch out he's a charmer."

(Blonde haired man with soft brown eyes and gorgeous smile shakes my hand before he gets shoved aside by the other one, whose snapping green eyes are hypnotic.)

"Jeff, please wait your turn. Jesus." (She rolls her eyes) "Jeff Thornton, our brew master and resident smart ass."

Jeff: "And super stud" (blows on fingernails before getting punched in the shoulder by Owen)

(Erin shoots me an apologetic look. ) "Sorry but Landon just called and.."

(Door bursts open and tall, tan, gorgeous bald man strides in.  The rest of the room grumbles).

Erin: "Oh, okay he's gracing us after all:  Landon Hannover, Beer Guru."

(He wraps her in a hug and kisses the top of her head…grumbling in room gets louder. He ignores it, pulls out a chair for Erin and then sits right next to her.  Erin looks a little uncomfortable but smiles at each man in the room as they arrange themselves in a loose circle facing me.  Bradley is still on the phone. Trent is staring at his too.  Owen and Jeff are arguing about something.  Landon only has eyes for Erin).

Welcome boys! Okay Erin, starting with Bradley, can you tell me your favorite trait of each of the men?

Erin: "Sure." (Glares in annoyance at his continuing preoccupation with a phone call) "Bradley is hard working, smart, driven and successful."

(He glances up and winks at me as he handles some sort of multi million dollar bank deal, pats Erin's hand with a regretful look)

Erin: "Trent is impulsive, creative and a great friend. Has been for a long time."

(Trent leans forward in his chair and smiles.)

Trent: "Yeah, we go way back.  We, um, hung out the entire summer after we graduated from high school. But went separate ways. To my regret." (He touches her shoulder tenderly and she pats his hand) "When I needed a marketing expert a few years ago, I knew where to go. She'd come back to Ann Arbor with her husband (he throws a dark, dangerous look over his shoulder at Bradley) and boys. It was the second best decision I ever made for Winter Street."

(Owen stands and stretches, his jeans hug his lower body tantalizingly then ambles forward.) "My turn?" (He stands on Erin's other side. She's framed nicely and their dark, red and blond selves combine for a beautifully contrasting picture.)

Erin: "Yes, it is." (Her smile is wistful as she looks up at him. )"Owen is…well, he's generous, giving and a great listener. He's one of the best English lit teachers at the high school and is one of the very few men who can beat me one on one at soccer. He's a meticulous, careful brewer and a…good friend."

(He leans down and puts a soft kiss on the top of her hair. She blushes, looks away from me.)

(Jeff clears his throat, loudly.  She grins back at him and motions for him to step up and join them.)

Erin:  "Jeff is wildly creative with brewing and…other stuff. He's energetic and fun."

(Both Owen and Trent roll their eyes. She smiles at all three and motions for them to sit back down before turning to the compelling looking man sitting next to her.)

Erin: "Landon has opened and sold two craft breweries, written a ton of books on the subject and is my absolute go-to guy for questions, rants or problems about…' (She gestures in the general vicinity of the three nearby) "life."

(She puts a hand on his broad shoulder, that he immediately takes and presses to his lips.  She blushes again.  The sound of coughs and a not-so-subtle "suck up" comments come from the peanut gallery.)

Now, one trait you don't particularly enjoy?

Erin:  "Easily."  (The men in the room sit up straight an frown.  She ticks off with her fingers.)

Bradley:  Jealous and possessive

Trent: bossy and demanding

[image error]Owen: passive-aggressive and aloof

Jeff: pushy and too defensive

[image error]Landon:  tends towards know-it-all-ism"

At the Tap Room, what has the sexual tension between yourself and Trent, Owen and Jeff done to your working relationship?

(Nervous laughter fills the room.  Bradley has finished his call and leans back in his chair, long legs crossed and a deep frown on his face as he stares at his ex-wife.)

Erin:  "Well, we started out as a pretty racy group.  I mean, Trent and I have some 'history' as you know and I'm no stranger to flirting. Owen is a natural at that too, so when we were just in planning stages, and having regular 'beer school' sessions for me we'd many times end up throwing innuendo around that was…extreme."

(She glances over at Owen in particular.  He lifts one side of his mouth in a charming, ironic smile)

"But recently, things have gotten… complicated.  I've had some close encounters that need sorting out and…"

(Everyone startles when Bradley stands up and stomps out of the room.  Erin sighs. Landon pats her shoulder but she shrugs him off.)

Trent:  "What an asshole."

Jeff (under his breath):  "Hello Kettle? This is Pot. You're black."

(Owen snickers and exchanges an inscrutable look with the young blonde man.)

(Erin glares at all of them then faces me once more, resignation in her green eyes.) "Jessica, I will admit that I've made some choices and done some things that do nothing to improve our working relationship. As a matter of face I regret some of them very much."

(Owen shifts around in his seat. She looks at him before continuing, keeping her eyes on his)

"But trust me when I say that I love all these men very much, for very different reasons.  I hope to get it all figured out … soon."

(Owen frowns at her and looks away.  Jeff makes a loud yawning sound, obviously trying to divert attention away from their moment).

Trent:  "You guys are fucking killing me." (He leans back and pulls his phone out of his inner coat pocket with a frown).

Owen:  "Relax man. We'll get it figured out."

(Jeff glances at him, then back at Erin)

What did you hope for when you left to meet Landon in Colorado?

Erin: (laughs) "Can't you tell? A break from all this damn drama!"

(Landon raises an eyebrow at her.) "Can I say, I was hoping to meet one of the hottest new brewery marketing experts around and I got more than I bargained for with Erin."

(She blushes deeply and looks down)

"It's okay." (He ignores me and all the rumblings from the other men and takes Erin's hand again)  "I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Do any of these guys snore?

Erin: "Yes. But he (points to Trent) is the absolute worst. Or he used to be anyway…"  (Trent flashes his middle finger at her)

Trent: "It's a function of extreme masculinity, you know. The rest of these pussies don't have enough testosterone to snore like a man."

(Laughter erupts, easing the tension that had been building)

What bad habits do they have?

Erin: "Oh dear God, where to start…."

Jeff:  "Start with me baby. You know I don't have any…" (He leans back and puts his hands behind his head.  The muscle definition in his arms is…distracting)

Erin:  "Jeff would flirt with a brick wall.  It's annoying"

Jeff:  "…and it would flirt back, wouldn't it?"

Erin:  "Owen drinks too much Red Bull."

Owen: (hand over his heart) "Oh hell, I'm crushed." (He pulls a Red Bull from somewhere and downs it in one gulp. Erin rolls her eyes.)

Erin: "That shit will kill you I tell you.  Trent snores and is a horrific bed hog, if memory serves but you'd have to ask Lisa that now."

Trent: "This body (he runs in hands down his admittedly lovely torso encased in expensive wool and cotton) "demands space.  What can I say?"

Erin: "Landon is a neat freak. It makes me crazy how he's always picking up after me."

Landon: "I know you have to channel your inner extreme slob.  My bad."

(The others laugh. Bradley has made it back into the room by now and leans against the door frame.)

Erin:  "Bradley was a neat freak too but…"

Bradley:  "Go ahead, tell them."

Erin:  (grinning) "He absolutely refuses to use a towel more than once.  I washed more towels in our life together than I care to remember.  Jesus, man they were on your clean body.  What was the deal?"

Bradley: "Let's just say since I live on my own now, I'm not quite as spoiled about it."  (He strides forward, and sucks up 90% of the masculine energy in the room, making the others frown and shift in their seats.  He kneels down in front of Erin. She looks alarmed. Gripping both her hands he stares into her eyes.)

Bradley:  "I'm sorry.  For all of it.  You didn't deserve how I treated you. Forgive me?"

(Erin is open mouthed. The room is utterly silent.)

Erin:  "Yes. I forgive you."

(Bradley smiles, gives her a soft kiss, stands to his full six foot five, nods to the room and leaves)

And will they always hold a place in your heart?

Erin:  (gazing after her ex-husband, then at each of the men in the room).  "Of course they will. All of them."

Thanks for being here today! I wish all of you the very best!

Blurb:

Erin Brady is having a seriously interesting year…

After finding out her alpha banker husband, Bradley, has been cheating on her with his bubble-headed PR girl, she puts all her passion and energy into making her microbrewery a success. Until one business partner, Trent, attempts to rekindle an old flame, and her other partner, Owen, admits his true feelings for her—what is a woman supposed to do?

Throw the hot new brewer, Jeff, in the mix, and it's a formula for disaster.

The daily stresses of running a small business, plus the ongoing turmoil in her personal life has Erin escaping to California for an industry event, where she meets Landon, a brewery rock-star-turn-consultant, who has been watching her and her company for a while.

When a family trauma requires her presence in Michigan, Erin is faced with an ex- husband who wishes for a reunion. Caught in the middle of all these men, she's even more confused by what she truly wants or needs.

Then the ultimate decision forces her into action: Newly acclaimed as the owners of Winter Street Brewing, honored by Inc. Magazine as Top Entrepreneurs, Trent, Owen and Erin face a buyout offer from a much larger brewery. What will she choose? Who will she share it all with?

Liz Crowe will be excerpting The Tap Room on The Brewing Passion Blog once a week starting Wednesday, 10/19, leading up to a big contest at The Romance Studio that runs November 1-28: here is that link:  http://www.theromancereviews.com/event.php

Trent and Lisa have their own story, The Rookie. It's available at: http://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-therookie-453344-144.html

The final installment of The Brewing Passion series is also a Trent and Lisa Story,  Specific Gravity.

Blurb:

Trent and Lisa have a sizzling hot physical relationship.  Ever since they first met, it's been a non-stop hands-on fest.  Just what they both needed: he's newly divorced, she just ended a long relationship.  But lately, it feels like something more and it terrifies him.

Lisa knows Trent could be The One but is too independent and stubborn to make him believe it.  He has to figure it out on his own.  Their shared love of craft beer and specific expertise in the business do make them a good match, and the sex?  It's off the charts.

"Specific Gravity" is a crucial moment in the beer brewing process—a turning point upon which successful outcomes depend.  Lisa hopes Trent will go to the next level with her but isn't about to force him.  The moment of truth has arrived.  Can he go beyond physical and find true happiness with her?

Releasing November 25 from Breathless Press.
