“No. It’s just…I’m used to being able to handle any situation.”

“Not really.”
“I’m sure we can come up with ideas. In fact, I’m thinking of one right now.”
“You’re going to be the death of me.”
“Way I understand, it’s the other way around.” Her laughter rang out in the room, shattering the tension. He pulled her closer, content and sated for the moment. “You’re a remarkable woman. Strong, determined, not to mention sexy as sin.”
She squirmed against him and he took it as a signal she wasn’t used to hearing such things said about her. Her reaction made him decide to shower her with attention while they were trapped together.
He was both amused and terrified by her reactions. Her extraordinary skill set was evident and he found her tenacity admirable. She possessed a vulnerability, though she clearly did her best to hide that aspect of her personality. By his guess, she thought it would show a weakness if she let others know about any flaw in her perfection. A good covert operative couldn’t have any visible flaws. Otherwise, they weren’t very good at their job.
By the looks of things so far, she was very, very good at her job.
And, for reasons he didn’t completely understand, he had begun to fall in love with her.

Sara Brookes has always been fascinated by the strange, the unusual, the twisted and the lost (tortured heroes are her personal favorite). She is an action movie junkie, addicted to coffee and has been known to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing RPG video games. The Submission Blog Tour: Writing Sex with Sonia Hightower and D.F. Krieger
Sonia: Something readers may be surprised to know about me is… There was a time when I refused to write sex. What’s the point? We all know part A goes into part B. Do we really need the details?
According to the editor of my first romance novella, yes we do! Meet D.F. Krieger, the editor in question, and my lovely coauthor. D, do you remember this incident?
D.F.: How could I forget? I remember reading the section over and over sputtering and thinking, “Did this author not read the freaking rules? What part of ‘no closed door sex’ does she not get?”
Sonia: Would you believe you made me cry? I was all upset. I had to text my dad about it, make sure he wouldn’t disown me. *shaking my head* What was going on on your end?
D.F.: I was nervous. You were one of my first assignments as an editor, so the conflict over the sex had me wondering if I was going to lose my job. I swung back and forth between being angry, and being frightened my boss was going to yell at me for standing my ground.
Sonia: And now I’m not only thanking D.F., but celebrating the release of a f/f bdsm novella rated a head level four that I cowrote with her. So I had to make a pen name, so what? It’s only ’cause I have a YA novel out there under my real name.
D.F: And my how you’ve grown as a writer, I might say. It was like turning on a light switch. You wrote that first sex scene, and since then you’ve been such an open-minded writer. But I have to admit, writing a F/F was a new challenge for me too. So in forcing you to grow, I ended up forcing myself to grow as well.
Sonia: The conclusion: Listen to your editor! They are usually right!
The Submission:The editor is always right… Katia Lane, a down on her luck writer, finds this out the hard way. Sylvia chuckled as she ran her fingers down the front of the other woman’s dress. The fabric whispered under her fingertips, reminding her of Katia’s skin. Forsaken Protector Blog Tour – Interview with author Nana Malone
Welcome, Nana, to my blog. Can you begin by telling us how long you have been writing with the hopes of publication?
NM: I’ve been writing for publication for the last twelve years
How did you get started?
NM: Completely by accident. I was living in NYC hating my PR gig and realized the only thing I was good at was the writing part of PR. I read Bridget Jones’s Diary that summer and it changed my life. I’d never seen a fiction author with that kind of conversational voice before. That’s when I decided to try my hand at writing.
Do you have any recent or upcoming releases?
NM: Yes I do! I’m so glad you asked: Forsaken Protector
The enemy of her enemy is her friend.
Almost one year after escaping Gentech Facilities, Symone Jackson lives in the shadows with her nightmares. Thanks to horrible genetics experiments at the hand of Peter Reeser, her mere touch is lethal. What are you working on now?
NM: Right now I’m working on the continuation books from both my series. Next in line is Sultry in Stilettos and Wounded Protector is right behind that one
Who is your favorite character from any of your books?
NM: That has to bed Jaya Trudeaux from my Sexy in Stilettos book. She’s the most like me.
Come on, Trudeaux. Shoulders back, chin up. You are amazing. Jaya was well aware of the impact the three of them made in the crowded lounge. They weren’t the typical San Diego girls, tall, blonde and leggy—but they were stunning in the way they stood out from the crowd with their brown skin and dark hair. Or at least, she could be made stunning just by standing between her friends. With Ricca’s curves and Micha’s striking looks and hair, nobody could help but look twice. For once though, she didn’t bask secretly in the glow of secondary adoration. But maybe Micha was right. If she faked it, she’d start feeling better.
They selected the booth by the bar. It had easy access to drinks, a great view of the dance floor, and was close to the side exit in case the place was packed and they didn’t want to go the lobby of the Westhorpe Hotel to get out.
Jaya slid into the booth, careful to keep the skirt of her dress bunched. The damn thing was so frothy and flirty, every time she moved, the skirts threatened to lift up and expose her ass to the world. The top was no better. The neckline was so daring, she hadn’t bothered to wear a bra with it, putting her goods even more on display. But at least she was comfortable in the shoes. They felt like padded silk and they looked amazing. The perfect complement to the dress.
Once their drinks arrived, Jaya raised her glass as she tried to shake the feeling that someone was watching her. Though, given the Do-Me shoes and the Look-At-Me dress, she should have been more surprised if someone wasn’t watching her.
“Okay, listen closely, ladies, because this is the only time you’ll be hearing this from my mouth. You were right.” She paused for effect. “I do feel better. Thanks to you guys, I’m not pulling the death-by-cookies-‘n’-cream routine. And—I have a plan.”
Ricca raised her glass and clinked it with Jaya’s.
Micha’s grin was broad as she spoke. “I knew we’d see the old you eventually—Planning and everything. Soon you’ll be making one of us a to-do list. You’re on the road to recovery.” She took a sip of her Lemon Drop, her ruby-red lips closing around the rim of her martini glass. “So, what’s the plan? Should I get my shovel? Will this require a trip to the desert and a body burial?”
“As much as I would love to throw Derrick in a ditch, I’ve got something else in mind.” With the hairs on her neck standing at attention and making her take furtive look around, she continued in a softer voice. “I’m going to finish my drink. Then I’m going to get my job back—and oust the interloper from my family.”
Micha and Ricca exchanged wide-eyed looks. “I prefer the desert idea,” Micha mumbled.
“Well, okay. As soon as I legally get rid of him, I’ll don the sexiest of cat-burglar-chic and help you dig.” Jaya sighed cheerily as she took another sip of her drink. “I will be back on top in no time.”
Ricca’s happy face went from friendly bolstering to wary concern. “Exactly what is the plan?”
A shot of adrenaline zinged through Jaya . Now that she had a strategy, the tension was already rolling out of her shoulders. “First thing’s first. I’m going to get a date to Tamara’s wedding. There’s no way I can show up alone. It just screams ‘I’m a jobless loser who can’t even find a boyfriend.’”
Micha slapped the table top. “At last. Now you’re talking sense. I told you all that I’m-strong-enough-to-go-to-the-wedding-alone nonsense was bullshit.”
“Yes, you were right. There’s no way I want to show up alone.” She shrugged. “Besides, it won’t hurt to have somebody hot as a fixture. Someone who won’t think Tamara is the most beautiful woman on the planet and the sun shines out of her ass.”
Micha snickered. “Is that what a sunrise looks like?”
Who is your favorite character from any of the books you’ve read?
NM: That one’s easy. Lizzie Bennett from Pride and Prejudice.
Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?
NM: I don’t really have critique partners anymore, but I have some pretty honest Beta readers who don’t let me get away with anything. For me critique groups were a little slow. Generally one chapter a week and when you’re writing faster than that it seems to drag on. But once you find Beta readers you can trust, they’ll point out your weak writing, your overused phrases and your crutch words. They are invaluable.

Subversive Blog Tour: Interview with author Rebecca Royce & Giveaway!!
Welcome back to my blog, Rebecca! It is always a pleasure to have you here. I’m super excited to host you during the SUBVERSIVE tour, as I have been anxiously anticipating the release of this book since finishing DRIVEN, the second book in The Warrior series.
Now, Rachel, the protagonist has discovered not only a lot about herself while uncovering all kinds of secrets about the society she lives in. What qualities do you most admire about her and why?
RR: I think she has the ability to press forward during a difficult, sometimes impossible situation. Quit is not in her vocabulary. I think she is smart and she sticks to her guns.
What can you tell us about her relationship with Jason? With Deacon? And with her father?
RR: Jason is her first love. He’s complicated. And Romantic. (And yes I capitalized that on purpose.) He is strong willed and thinks he knows best. He loves her even if he isn’t necessarily good for her.
Deacon is a young guy she once rescued who grew up to be a young man she can’t ignore. He’s opinionated and he frequently thinks things that everyone else disagrees with. He’s more like Rachel than she is comfortable with.
Her father. That’s a sad situation. But sometimes the people in our life who should love, shelter, and protect us…just don’t. It’s not because they’re bad people. They’re simply people and by definition flawed.
What is the most important lesson she learns in SUBVERSIVE?
RR: Don’t believe everything you’re told.
SUBVERSIVE combines both paranormal and science fiction elements. Are these genres you enjoy reading and writing?
RR: Yes to both. I grew up watching science fiction at the dinner table. And I love the paranormal, obviously.
What inspired you to write this series?
RR: I don’t know. Rachel lolled around in my head a long time until she came out to play. I never know where my stories come from.
Now that SUBVERSIVE has released, what are you working on now?
RR: I’m writing an adult series called The Outsiders.
Do you have any more books planned for this series, or involving these characters?
RR: Two more after this!
Yes! When you’re not writing, what do you do to relax?
RR: I watch television, read, play with my kids, go to Broadway shows, or out to eat. I also love to travel.

She’s in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and tries to use all of these elements in her writing.
