The Monster of Fame book tour: Interview with author Aimée Duffy
Welcome to my blog, Aimée! Tell us about your new release, The Monster of Fame.
AD: Annabelle MacIntosh enters an XFactor-type competition to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, having seen first hand how fame can destroy the weak, doesn’t think she’s strong enough not to let the pressure destroy her. He tries to find a way to get her out of the competition, but his attraction grows to the point he can’t keep his hands off her.
Describe the heroine in three words.
AD: Terrified. Determined. Resilient.
Who is your favorite character from this book? (Can you include an excerpt involving this character?)
AD: Miles. He’s driven by his past guilt and has a soft spot for Annabelle from the second he lays his eyes on her:
“Relax, Annabelle,” he assured her, realizing she must think of his behavior as odd. In Glasgow, he’d told her to get out now while she could and this afternoon he’d complemented her performance and asked her to join him for coffee.
“I’m fine.” She murmured something under her breath which sounded suspiciously like controlling oaf and he frowned. “What did you want to talk to me about, Mr. Oliver?”
Miles flinched at the formal way she addressed him. “Call me Miles, please.” He decided to let the insult slide for the moment.
“Okay.” Her eyes shadowed warily.
What are you working on now?
AD: The Monster of Fame is the first in The Price of Fame series. I’m working on the second, Sander’s story. He’s another judge in the competition.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
AD: A bit of both. I plotted The Monster of Fame, I’m pantsing my way through Sander’s. Bet there’s tones of revisions!
Where do your best ideas come from?
AD: Not sure where they come from, but I get lots of eureka moments when I’m asleep. Pity I forget most of them by the time I go to write them down.
LOL I’ve been there before. Who is your favorite character from any of the books you’ve read?
AD: Gideon Cross from Sylvia Day’s Bared to You.
Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?
AD: I’m part of a small critique group and the ladies are very encouraging. They’ve helped me learn to believe in myself and pointed out of the newbie writing mistakes I want to avoid! I’d highly recommend a good group of friends or even a solid CP to work with before sending your wip off.
I agree. What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?
AD: Never, ever give up. You CAN do it. All it takes is determination and dedication with a huge dollop of self-belief.
Great advice! Where can my readers find you?
AD: You can visit my blog if you want to know a little more about me: www.aimeeduffy.co.uk or find me procrastinating on Facebook and Twitter (@aimeeduffyx).
Thanks for visiting us, Aimée! All the best!
The Monster of Fame by Aimée Duffy:
Can the voice of an angel heal a tortured soul?
Annabelle MacIntosh enters a reality singing contest to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, celebrity judge and the owner of the biggest record company in the UK, doesn’t think she has what it takes. She sings like an angel, but when she performs all he can focus on is the terror in her eyes. It’s a look he knows only too well. After the pressure of fame destroyed his wife, Miles swore he’d never let the same thing happen to anyone else. Driven by the guilt he’s carried for years, Miles tries everything in his power to make sure Annabelle doesn’t succeed, because he doesn’t believe she’ll survive it.
Annabelle needs that prize money, and she’s determined to win it. As she fights to make it through each round of the contest, an attraction begins to develop between the two adversaries. The longer Annabelle remains in the competition, the deeper her attraction grows to the man who’s trying to prevent her from reaching her goal. Can she convince Miles she’s strong enough to fight the fame monster and win?

A cheer from thousands rang out all around them. Horns and buzzers echoed through the room. Red and blue flashed before her eyes as she rode the wild waves of complete satisfaction. With one final slamming thrust, Jared convulsed inside her, releasing a guttural roar.
He held her tight pressing his sweat-covered body to hers, his breathing ragged. “That’s one goal I’ll never forget.”

Interview with Science Fiction Romance author Cynthia Sax
It gives me great pleasure to welcome fellow science fiction romance author, Cynthia Sax to the blog today! Cynthia, tell us about your new release.
CS: I worked as a newspaper reporter for a number of years (writing for both a daily and a weekly) and I’ve always been fascinated by the people working in news. The story is often everything to them. They’ll brave a hurricane, standing in crazy wind and rain, endangering their lives, to faithfully capture the moment.
So I wondered… how would a reporter react when faced with an alien?
The result was Exposed By Moonbeam, the third story in my Moonbeam series (and yes, Moonbeam, aka the Roswell of the North, IS a real place).
Blurb for Exposed By Moonbeam:
For months, the mysterious Ary has been teasing Storm with tales of aliens. The intrepid reporter arrives in Moonbeam to investigate this hot, sexy story, and within hours of meeting the aristocratic Ary, Storm sees, feels and tastes his hard, vibrating proof. She will do anything to keep her source happy, voyaging to the ends of the known universes to nail her exclusive.
Ary, a ruling prince of Sila, prides himself on being cool and unattached. Storm’s constantly moving mouth tests that resolve. Under her enticing touch, Ary’s primitive passions erupt, releasing his inner beast, freeing him from the restraints of tradition.
Not all Silans are happy their ruler has a mate and the enemy is poised, ready to attack. The last story Storm covers could be her own.

What traits does the hero posses that makes the heroine swoon?
CS: Of course, Ary from Exposed by Moonbeam is alpha. I only write alphas (as I’m married to an alpha and that’s what I know). Ary protects Storm. He risks his life for her. But I think it is how much he cares for his people that really captures Storm’s heart. He’d sacrifice anything including his pride for his people. She knows he’d make the same sacrifices for her.
That deep level of passion is very sexy.
CS: I’ve always been a writer. I wrote daily in a diary until I graduated high school. I wrote for a daily and a weekly newspaper. I wrote thousands of essays, hoping to secure scholarships to university (Those essays paid off. I ended up attending university on full scholarship, including food and accommodations.). I write daily non-romance related blog posts under another pen name.
A brilliant writer once told me that if I could do anything other than write, do that anything. I can’t. Writing is part of who I am. I might not always write for publication but I will always write.
What genres do you write in, and what appeals to you about those genres?
CS: I write science fiction and paranormal erotic romance short stories and novellas. I love the total disconnect from the often challenging real world. I love that anything can happen. I love reading about how mixed species relationships resolve their unique issues. I love the tolerance and openness of the readers.
What are you working on now?
CS: I’m working on the edits for Menage Lost, the next story in my Operation Erotic series at Ellora’s Cave. In this story, Mirian, the heroine, is abandoned on a plant-dominated planet. The top of the food chain on this planet is a man-eating plant named Steve. I LOVE Steve (and no, Steve doesn’t get physical with the heroine – well, he DOES try to suck her blood but not sexy physical).
It was challenging to find heroes more dominant than Steve. Furu and Xan are that dominant. And when they arrive on the planet, wowsers. Steve is not pleased with his competition. Mirian is VERY pleased however. (grins)
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
CS: I’m a pantser. I write stories to find out how they end. Sometimes the characters die and those stories don’t get published (because I only share stories with happy endings). Sometimes the characters achieve a happy ending I didn’t think possible. If I know how a story ends, I no longer have any interest in writing it.
It sounds bizarre to non-writers. The best comparison I can find is dreaming. Dreams come from us, from our brains, yet we have no control over what happens in them. The craft part of writing for me is converting what I see in these waking dreams into words. That’s extremely challenging.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?
CS: This is the first time I’ve been asked this question. I’m excited! Does this mean I’m a ‘real’ writer?
Anyhoo…
My advice to aspiring authors is to write true to YOU. Hopefully, you’ll have a long writing career with many stories published. It is challenging to write in a tone or genre that isn’t natural to you.
I tried to write angsty when that was all the rage. I couldn’t. My characters are always cracking jokes and making sarcastic comments. Since embracing the fact that I write light, I’ve been much happier. The writing feels more comfortable, like a hug from a good friend.
When you find joy in your writing, your readers will also.
Where can my readers find you?
CS: I’m all around the internet but specifically I can be found at

Six Sentence Sunday: Bryce is thinking about the wrong woman #sixsunday
Hello everyone! Thank you for coming to read my Six Sentence Sunday post today!
Today, I’m sharing six from THE ZURIAN CHILD
which releases IN PRINT on Thursday (October 18)! Yay!
The Zurian Child can be pre-ordered at Silver Publishing.
In this six, Bryce is trying not to think about his best friend’s wife.
(blurb & more info here)
Bryce paused at the landing inside his front door. His usual Sunday routine included a few hours in his home gym, sweating out his frustrations on his treadmill, or lifting weights to channel his energy. Instead, he climbed the stairs two at a time to the main living area of his house. Tossing his keys on the side table, he proceeded to the fridge for a beer then collapsed onto the couch. He picked up the remote from the glass coffee table and flicked on the TV, hoping to push thoughts of Lindsay out of his head.
She did not belong in his mind, especially naked.

I got my first tattoo!!
I have wanted a tattoo for a long time, but I was always so scared. See, the thing is, needles make me pass out. I’m not kidding. I can’t even look at the needles when my kids get their immunizations. It has nothing to do with the pain. I can handle that. It’s the needle itself. I can’t even look at one on television without my head spinning.
So, after many years, I finally figured out what I wanted, found a tattoo shop, and gathered up the courage to call. Well, my husband did. I just had to wait for the day. And today I got my first tattoo.
Did it hurt? Not really. It doesn’t tickle though. Feels more like someone is scratching your skin. And I didn’t pass out. Will I get another? Yes!
So, here’s some pictures of my tattoo and my wonderful tattoo artist, Loaf, from the Perfect Image Studio in Waterloo.

Hexual Healing by Gem Sivad
Harvest the magic of Samhain and sex
Heal the beast, rebound the hex

Nothing in his military, shapeshifting, Special Forces background has prepared Thomas Hunter for the torture of jaguar mating heat or the wrath of a furious witch. Though he’s on a mission in DC, his beast wrests control, returning them to their mate.
After Thomas delivers his own brand of sexual healing, it’s back to DC, with Miz. There’s twisted magic at work. Someone has unleashed a snake-eyes death hex. Good thing Miz is all about hexual healing. And Thomas stands ready to take all the heat from her sexual burn.
