The Monster of Fame book tour: Interview with author Aimée Duffy

Welcome to my blog, Aimée! Tell us about your new release, The Monster of Fame.

AD: Annabelle MacIntosh enters an XFactor-type competition to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, having seen first hand how fame can destroy the weak, doesn’t think she’s strong enough not to let the pressure destroy her. He tries to find a way to get her out of the competition, but his attraction grows to the point he can’t keep his hands off her.

Describe the heroine in three words.

AD: Terrified. Determined. Resilient.

Who is your favorite character from this book? (Can you include an excerpt involving this character?)

AD: Miles. He’s driven by his past guilt and has a soft spot for Annabelle from the second he lays his eyes on her:

“Relax, Annabelle,” he assured her, realizing she must think of his behavior as odd. In Glasgow, he’d told her to get out now while she could and this afternoon he’d complemented her performance and asked her to join him for coffee.

“I’m fine.” She murmured something under her breath which sounded suspiciously like controlling oaf and he frowned. “What did you want to talk to me about, Mr. Oliver?”

Miles flinched at the formal way she addressed him. “Call me Miles, please.” He decided to let the insult slide for the moment.

“Okay.” Her eyes shadowed warily.

What are you working on now?

AD: The Monster of Fame is the first in The Price of Fame series. I’m working on the second, Sander’s story. He’s another judge in the competition.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

AD: A bit of both. I plotted The Monster of Fame, I’m pantsing my way through Sander’s. Bet there’s tones of revisions!

Where do your best ideas come from?

AD: Not sure where they come from, but I get lots of eureka moments when I’m asleep. Pity I forget most of them by the time I go to write them down.

LOL I’ve been there before. Who is your favorite character from any of the books you’ve read?

AD: Gideon Cross from Sylvia Day’s Bared to You.

Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?

AD: I’m part of a small critique group and the ladies are very encouraging. They’ve helped me learn to believe in myself and pointed out of the newbie writing mistakes I want to avoid! I’d highly recommend a good group of friends or even a solid CP to work with before sending your wip off.

I agree. What is the best piece of advice you would give to aspiring authors?

AD: Never, ever give up. You CAN do it. All it takes is determination and dedication with a huge dollop of self-belief.

Great advice! Where can my readers find you?

AD: You can visit my blog if you want to know a little more about me: www.aimeeduffy.co.uk or find me procrastinating on Facebook and Twitter (@aimeeduffyx).

Thanks for visiting us, Aimée! All the best!

The Monster of Fame by Aimée Duffy:

Can the voice of an angel heal a tortured soul?

Annabelle MacIntosh enters a reality singing contest to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, celebrity judge and the owner of the biggest record company in the UK, doesn’t think she has what it takes. She sings like an angel, but when she performs all he can focus on is the terror in her eyes. It’s a look he knows only too well. After the pressure of fame destroyed his wife, Miles swore he’d never let the same thing happen to anyone else. Driven by the guilt he’s carried for years, Miles tries everything in his power to make sure Annabelle doesn’t succeed, because he doesn’t believe she’ll survive it.

Annabelle needs that prize money, and she’s determined to win it. As she fights to make it through each round of the contest, an attraction begins to develop between the two adversaries. The longer Annabelle remains in the competition, the deeper her attraction grows to the man who’s trying to prevent her from reaching her goal. Can she convince Miles she’s strong enough to fight the fame monster and win?
