Fast Cars and Fast Men – Guest post by @KaceyHammell #newrelease #99cents
by Kacey Hammell
Of course, 69 Mustang was inspired by my obsession of the classic Mustang. But I’m a huge lover of fast cars, revving engines and … well…hunky drivers behind the wheel.
My top five car movies and/or male drivers in the front seat are… (and yes, I remember the make of each car as well. Told you I was a tad car crazy!)
I bet you’ve already guess LOL … Steve McQueen aka Frank Bullitt in Bullitt – that movie started my deep fascination with Mustangs. Starring car(s) — ’68 Mustang GT 390, ’68 Charger.
And many know my obsession with this man… Vin Diesel aka Dominic Toretto in Fast & Furious movies. Franchise is now huge, but original starring cars (from #1) — ’70 Charger, ’01 Ford Lightning.
Driver Unknown LOL! in Christine! The only car of terror that still gives me chills. *g* And the starring car(s) — ’58 Fury, ’68 Charger, ’67 Camaro.
Back in his younger days, Sylvester Stallone aka Cobra in the same titled movie. Hmm, he was hot when he said “You’re the disease. I’m the cure.” Whew! That gruff voice! Cheesy line nowadays but still! LOL Starring car(s) — ’50 Mercury.
A gem of his career in my opinion… Nicolas Cage aka Dominic Sena. Seriously loved that he had to drive not one, not two, but 50 pretty awesome vehicles. Could have done without Angelina Jolie though. Starring car(s) — ’67 Shelby Mustang.
So how about you – any fave car movies that get your engine running? One I may have missed? Please share if you think of one!

Revved and Ready for passion, heat sizzles between two friends…
For Hayley Fitzgibbon, the heat wave blanketing her small town is nothing compared to the inferno inside her whenever she looks at her best friend, Rory. On the night of his parents’ anniversary party, she no longer resists her burning desire and makes it known how much she wants him. Secluded under a willow tree, down a lover’s lane, she’s revved and ready to claim her man on the top of his ’69 Mustang.
Excerpt © Kacey Hammell, 2013:
“The party was fantastic, Rory. Your parents looked so happy.” Hayley Fitzgibbon shifted in the front seat of the black ’69 Ford Mustang her long-time best friend owned since he turned twenty-one. She’d come to love it as much as he did, how it handled. It still hummed like it had when brand new. No car was sexier to her. Mustangs, especially the classic ’69 had lines that were slick, masculine and just screamed fast and hardcore. The vibration from the engine tingled through the back of her thighs and buttocks causing a delicious thrill through her body. “Thanks for driving me home. It was a great celebration. I can’t believe your parents have been married fifty years.”
“Yeah. It’s practically unheard of these days.” Rory clicked on his blinker then turned right. “They really seemed to like the gift Max and I got them. You think so?”
She nodded and brushed the white shrug off her shoulders. The heat wave spreading through Belleville, Ontario had reached staggering levels in the last couple of days. The air conditioning in the car barely cooled her skin. Plus being such an enclosed space alone with him after hours of dancing, soft touches as they mingled and were less than five feet away from one another all night had her on edge. “Of course they did. Who wouldn’t want to take a three-week cruise around the Caribbean? I’ll be sure to remind you and your brother of your generosity for my next birthday.”
He laughed and winked. “You’d have to be a very, very good girl.”
I’ll show you just how good I can be. Hayley pushed the thought away. For weeks she’d been having the same dream over and over. The erotic fantasies starring herself and Rory had left her breathless every time she woke, sweating and panting. It was all she thought about anymore. Images of the two of them having hot, sweaty sex—anywhere and everywhere—consumed her day and night. She trembled, flashes of heat zinging along her spine. Heart racing, she drew in a deep breath.
He captivated her in so many new ways these days. His kindness had always been there, but lately, she’d smile if mentioned helping an elderly lady get her groceries to the car. And the way he talked about himself, she got upset and angry. He complained about being a ginger, especially in the summer when he burned easily, but she loved his unique looks. Kind of geeky and studious mixed with sexiness and cute buoyancy he didn’t realize he possessed. She disliked hearing him put himself down.
How were any of her new reactions possible? They’d been best friends forever, and had shared all their secrets with one another.
Maybe the intense and potent way he looked at her now. At times when she’d glance at him, she’d catch darkness and smoldering heat in his eyes that made it difficult to breathe. Was it because she’d slimmed down over the last eight or nine months. She didn’t want to think about him like that, knew deep down that he wasn’t that shallow. But he had been giving her the eye lately, passion-filled stolen glances. Since then, the air around them had shifted.
He hadn’t hidden his reaction to her tonight when he’d picked her up for his parents’ anniversary party either. Rory’s normally soft hazel eyes had turned a golden rich hue, and when she walked out of her bedroom, he’d let his gaze roam over her body. She knew she looked great in the bright blue satin, off-one-shoulder, mid-thigh gown that really made the azure in her eyes pop. Perhaps he agreed. His breath had hitched, his hands shook as he’d helped her with her shrug. His touch had lingered on her shoulders longer than needed. The warmth from his palms scalded against her already hot skin. He’d stood inches behind her, smoothing his hands down her back, and electricity tingled through her body, filling her with sudden fervor and desperation to feel his embrace. And make some of those naughty dreams she’d been having come true.
“You’ll be what, thirty-seven in a couple months, Hales? Maybe we should plan a cruise or something awesome for your fortieth? You’d look amazing in a skimpy bikini you know. Maybe a nude beach?”
The sound of Rory’s voice pulled her from her thoughts. She gulped and cleared her dry throat. “Um, yeah. Sure.” The air in the vehicle was nearly smothering.
“Hey.” He laid a hand on her thigh. Hayley gasped. Heat shot along the skin, hitting her straight to her pussy. Her pulse raced. “It’s like you’re in another world. You okay?”
“Of course,” Trying to mask her nerves, she laughed away his concern. “Fine. Just warm in here.” And I want you. So bad.

Excerpt
A million needles pierced her wrist. She had to get away from the fire. Leanne flicked open her eyes, screaming, longing for the agony to stop.
White walls surrounded her. Machines beeped. Taking in the new scenery, she closed her mouth, the pain forgotten. Bags filled with clear liquids as well as blood hung from a metal pole. She followed the tubes from the bags into her left hand. Was that where the burn came from? She glanced at the other arm, the end of which was wrapped in thick bandages. The image of spinning blades and her mangled flesh flashed before her eyes. She screamed again, tears falling down her cheeks. This can’t be happening.
Bodies rushed into the room, many in scrubs. With her vision blurred, she didn’t recognize anyone. All strangers. She was in the foreign place by herself. A nightmare. Has to be.
“Shh, calm down, sweetie. You’ll be okay.”
A familiar voice. She glanced to her other side to see her mom standing beside her, her eyes glassy. She held her hand, but Leanne couldn’t feel it, only the throbbing which had returned to her other one, the one that was…gone? She groaned, turning on her side, and pulled her knees up to her chest.
“Mom, is it really…?”
She brushed her fingers over her forehead. “Don’t worry about it right now. You need to rest.”
“It hurts so bad.”
“I know.” Her mother stroked her face again. “But the nurses will help it go away.”
“Leanne,” one of the nurses hovering around her said. “I want you to take deep breaths and count backward from ten.”
“Ten.” She sucked in air and cried out in agony.
Between clenched teeth, she continued. Anything to stop the pain. “Nine.”
Ice traveled through her veins. “Eight.”
The throbbing slowly ebbed away. Seven.
Darkness swept over her and pulled her down with it.

An Uncommon Love Blog Tour: Interview & Giveaway with author @MJSchiller #fairytale #romance
Hello everyone! Please welcome the wonderful MJ Schiller to my blog today, whom I met through the group, Authors Helping Authors. MJ, it’s a pleasure to have you here. Can you please tell us about your new release, An Uncommon Love?
MJS: Princess Adriana had her life all figured out. Or, to be more precise, she had her life all figured out for her. Before she was even born she was betrothed to Garin. That was perfectly acceptable, as he became her childhood friend, and then, eventually, the person she would swap kisses with inside the palace gardens. She never questioned it, never had a reason to, until the day a commoner was brought before her father, the king, to be punished.
As soon as Adriana’s eyes connected with Seth’s across the stone courtyard, she began to question everything in her life. For his part, Seth Hobbes is confused about his feelings for the beautiful woman who refuses to match any of his preconceived notions of what a princess should be like, starting when Adriana begs her father to release him. When Seth creeps into the castle at night to thank her, they begin to build a relationship with one another that is often as explosive as it is endearing. When fate ends up separating the two, they must undertake a long and arduous journey to be reunited and then overcome the objections Adriana’s father has to their relationship. Will Adriana be able to make Seth see her for herself and not as the princess that he imagines? And if she does, will she ever be able to convince her father that, despite his objections, there is nothing “common” about Seth at all?
Describe the heroine in three words.
MJS: Brave, determined, loving.
What traits does the hero possess that makes the heroine swoon?
MJS: Well, swinging that black smith’s hammer hasn’t done any harm to his body, that’s for sure. He has blond hair that’s long on the top and often falls into his eyes in a sexy way. But it’s the eyes. The eyes are what do you in! The kind of brilliant blue that both calms you and excites you.
What was your inspiration for this story?
MJS: I don’t know. Doesn’t everyone want to at least once write a fairy tale romance? As little girls we are captivated by the stories of the brave knights that come in and sweep the princess off her feet. Only my hero didn’t turn out to be a perfect, stuffy prince. He was the grimy, sweaty, soot-covered, muscled blacksmith—the bad boy. I’ve always been attracted to bad boy types!
Who is your favorite character from this book? Can you include an excerpt involving this character?
MJS: It’s got to be Seth. He’s your typical bumbling male in love. Although he loves Adriana desperately, he spends half of the novel pushing her away. But despite all of the mistakes he makes, he’s a good man, a truly good man, and that makes all of the difference. It reminds me of that song from “The King and I” where the guy is always saying thoughtless things but then he’ll say “something wonderful.” We ladies are pretty easy, pretty forgiving of our fumbling men. We can live a long while off one special moment or gesture. Here’s an example of a scene where Seth screws up royally. He is nervous about spending because he is trying to save money to buy his princess an engagement ring. You’ve got to feel bad for a guy in that position. Although he is being kind of an jerk here:
Seth was pleasant enough on the way; it was not until they were in Deadlow’s General Store that he became edgy. He scrutinized and questioned every item Lea picked up until she finally told him to go bother Adriana.
Seth turned from the counter, where Lea was examining cuts of meat, and caught sight of Adriana as she stood in the light of the doorway. She had picked up a bolt of white, silk fabric and was draping it across her body. Her face was dreamy and wistful.
Seth began to panic. He had been against this trip into Morriston, but Adriana had a dress to deliver and he needed to sell some goods, so he had finally consented. But all they ever wound up doing in Morriston was spending way too much money, and how was he ever going to have enough money to buy Adriana an engagement ring if the money was going out hand over fist? When he had pulled out his mother’s ring weeks ago, the one he had always liked, he began to think of the undoubtedly enormous ring Garin would have given Adi, and his ring seemed woefully inadequate. So, he was determined to buy a new one. He had stashed away quite a bit of money, but how much did it cost to buy an engagement ring fit for a princess?
And now, seeing Adriana mooning over the undeniably beautiful silk fabric, he felt a muscle begin to twitch along his jaw. Without even realizing he was doing it, Seth crossed to her side.
“Adi,” he snapped, “if you think we can afford fabric that dear, then I am sorry to disappoint you.” He saw the shocked look on her face, but could not stop himself. “We do not have an endless supply of money like ‘our betters’ do.”
“But Seth, I—”
“No buts Adriana, put the fabric back! This is not any royal palace here and I am no prince with a weighty coin bag in each hand!”
He saw the shock replaced by hurt and anger.
She looked over his shoulder now to where the people at the counter had turned to gape at them, and swallowed. Tears clung to the corners of her eyes and her bottom lip quivered. “Seth! I had no intention of asking you to pay for this fabric. I have money of my own.”
“Oh, aye! I forgot! You can always go back to Father and he will give you anything you want!” His sentence ended abruptly, as he caught the look of fire in her eyes.
Without a word, she shoved the bolt of fabric into his hands and spun on her heel to rush out the door. The jangle of the bells above the door was the only encore to Seth’s harsh speech. After a second, Lea brushed past him; but as she went to open the door to follow the princess, Seth’s big hand came down to close it.
“What are you doing?” she asked, eyes flashing. “I am going out there to talk to her and you are not going to—”
“Nay, you are not!” he responded, his voice still commanding. He looked up and out of the window to where Adriana was marching down the middle of the street. “I am going to talk to her.” His voice was quiet now and filled with the remorse he felt.
How long have you been writing with the hopes of publication?
MJS: Actually I did things a little backward. I wrote twelve books and then thought, “Hey, maybe I should do something with these.” After I started seriously pursuing publication I think it was less than a year before I was published with a small press.
What other titles do you have published?
MJS: TRAPPED UNDER ICE is the first in my ROCKING ROMANCE COLLECTION and is about rock star Chad Evans, who grew up in an abusive home, and lunch lady/romance writer Beth Donovan. The two go through numerous trials before coming together, only to face being separated by someone who is sending Chad death threats.
ABANDON ALL HOPE is the second in my ROCKING ROMANCE COLLECTION and is about rock star Chase Hatton. Chase lost Hope Cresswell when she disappeared the night of their senior prom. Eight years later she is back to interview him!
TAKEN BY STORM is the first in my ROMANTIC REALMS COLLECTION and is about Prince Tahj, the ousted prince of Avistad. When Tahj finds Bashea bound and gagged on his bedroom floor in the middle of a palace coup, his troubles are just beginning!
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
MJS: Although I try to be an organized person my ADD makes that impossible, so I’m a full-fledged pantser! Luckily my characters seem to know where the story is going.
Where do your best ideas come from?
MJS: Easy one, music. TRAPPED UNDER ICE gets its inspiration from about five Nickelback songs. A book I’ve put on the back burner for now is based on Breaking Benjamin music, which is quite depressing. The story is about a man losing his wife to cancer.
Do you belong to a critique group or have critique partners? If so, what have you learned from them? How has it affected your writing?
MJS: Oh, yes! I have the best critique group! My local RWA chapter has a bunch of seriously gifted authors that have helped me to grow in my writing. They’ve also helped me a lot while learning the business end of publishing.
Where can my readers find you?
MJS: You can find MJ Schiller at www.mjschillerauthor.blogspot.com, MJ on FB, twitter, Pinterest, and Goodreads.
Where can my readers find your books?
MJS: You can find AN UNCOMMON LOVE at Amazon and BN.com.
Thank you so much for having me, Jessica!

#MySexySaturday – Reunited at last in ALIEN LOVER #MSSWeek14 #scifi #erotica #TheEdge
Hi peeps! It’s the 14th week of My Sexy Saturday. Here are the details: every Saturday, published and unpublished authors will be sharing 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs from a work-in-progress or an already published story.
Here’s seven from Alien Lover, a sci-fi erotica short story.
Trailing his fingers down her back, he inhaled, pushing his chest against her breasts. How she’d missed the feel of his firm body, the sense of security her provided. He gripped her ass and ground his erection into her stomach, igniting her desire.
Yes, very much alive and ready.
Her immediate need shoved all other emotions away. Even though their relationship revolved around love and respect, sex with Diego had proved to be an out of this world experience. And his arousal reminded her of those times, heat zinging straight to her core. “It’s been so long.”
He tilted her chin and leaned down to capture her mouth. With soft lips, he tasted hers, his tongue sliding between her parted lips. Gripping her ass, he lifted her. She wrapped her legs around his waist, anxious for more. His cock pressed against her core, too much material in the way for her liking. Gods, I need him to fuck me, need confirmation that this isn’t a dream. It’s all too surreal. Months had passed since he’d fucked her the night before he left. She rejected the idea of waiting to experience that union once again.
Setting her feet back onto the ground, she took matters into her own hands. With a tug, she opened his belt, followed by the button on his pants. The gravity of the ship and the weight of his gear belt bared him for her. “Still going commando, I see.”
“I don’t like to be restricted.”
She smirked at his familiar phrase. No undergarments meant one less thing for her to remove. There would be no seduction this time. Raw need consumed her every fiber.

Building An Audience… The Dos and Don’ts of Twitter #buildingaudience #amwriting
Hello everyone, and welcome back to part four of Building An Audience For The Unpublished Author!
Today, I’m going to talk about twitter. It is important to note that the dos and don’ts to follow can apply to both published and unpublished author. Though, for published authors, there are even longer lists.
The Dos of Twitter
DO choose a twitter handle that is short and represents you. Your author name, or a shortened version works best.
DO follow others who have the same interests as you. This can include your favorite authors, television shows and their stars, favorite music, and anything else of interest to you.
DO retweet things you find interesting, or things your friends post about their books, etc. They’re more likely to do the same for you when you do have a published book.
DO follow those who follow you. Though, you don’t have to follow everyone. There are bots out there. Basically, if they share the same interests as you (reading, writing, whatever else), it’s a good idea to follow them back. And view their past tweets. If they tweet something that makes you uncomfortable, don’t feel obligated to follow them.
DO engage with others. Reply to people you follow if you have a comment on their post. And reply to those who reply to you. But, please be courteous in your replies. And watch out for creepy people. You’ll know who they are, and you can block them.
DO be exact in what you’re trying to say. You only have 140 characters, including spaces, links, and punctuation.
DO shorten your links if possible. It helps when people retweet you and gives you more characters to play with. I’ve used bit.ly and the shortener on Hootesuite.
DO use twitter for research. There are over 1 million active users on twitter. Send tweets out with the appropriate hashtags to find the information you’re looking for. ie. #military #amwriting #history … I actually met a pilot through twitter, and she helped me in writing the flight simulator scene in Made For Her.
DO have fun and make friends!
The DON’TS of Twitter

DO NOT tweet links at people, or even worse, do this and ask for a retweet. This is an example of one I received earlier this week – @jsubject pls RT free romance erotica available on amazon (link removed) #erotic #kindle #romance #ebooks #NewAdult #author – You will likely be unfollowed, blocked, and reported as a spammer. The only time you should include someone’s twitter handle in a tweet is if you are conversing with them, or if the blog post is about them or their books, as in a book review or author interview.
DO NOT DM people when they follow you. Never ever. Just don’t do it. Here’s one I recently received – Hi, you can read (book title removed) for free (link removed)

DO NOT tweet about politics and religion. Understand that not everyone is going to be of the same opinion as you. Accept it and move on. You’re trying to build an audience, not lose them.
DO NOT click on links that people DM you. Usually, they are included with a statement like “Guess what people are saying about you” or “Is this you?” These are accounts that have been hacked by clicking on the link. And if you click it, your twitter account will be hacked, too. If you are unsure, mention it to the person who sent it, and ask them if they sent you the DM.
I hope these help all of you build a huge audience on twitter. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comment section below.

Coming Together: Girl on Girl, a brief FAQ with @LeighEllwood #LGBT #anthology

Coming Together: Girl on Girl, a brief FAQ
Hello, I am Leigh Ellwood and I thank Jessica for having me here today to talk about the new lesbian erotica anthology, COMING TOGETHER; GIRL ON GIRL. To make you more familiar with this wonderful book, I decided to interview myself. Somebody had to do it. :)
Q: So what is this new book you want to promote?
A: Thanks for asking! COMING TOGETHER: GIRL ON GIRL is a collection of lesbian erotica and erotic romance stories. Many of the contributing authors are well-known in the genre, some have contributed to past Coming Together books, and there are a few new faces. This is the first such volume to feature all lesbian stories.
Q: Terrific! So, what inspired your desire to take on a project?
A: I write many genres of erotica and romance, and have a few bestselling lesbian titles available. It’s a growing genre in digital publishing, and one of my books (SHE LOVES ME) was a finalist in the Goldie Awards. I have contributed to Coming Together in the past, and wanted to do something on a larger scale to show my appreciation for the company, and for the charity the book benefits.
Q: This is a charity book? Who will benefit?
A: The National Center for Lesbian Rights helps all LGBT people with legal and social issues. I became aware of the NCLR when they fought to help an elderly same-sex couple who faced separation after one was hospitalized. If you’ve seen the first part of If These Walls Could Talk 2, it’s a similar story. A couple not legally recognized as such could face the loss of their partner, their home, and other property. Some of these stories are heartbreaking to read, and I wanted this book to help give back.
Q: What stories can we expect to enjoy?
A: Here is the lineup:
The Princess’ Princess (Salome Wilde)
Sundae, Bloody Sunday (Lisabet Sarai)
Angel (Ms. Peach)
Hot Air (Slave Nano)
A Taste of Vanilla (Leigh Ellwood)
The Trade In (Stephani Maari Booker)
New Girl (Harper Bliss)
Same But Different (Kate Atwood)
Fair As the Moon (Laurel Waterford)
On Display (Sophie Mouette)
Tough Enough to Wear a Dress (Teresa Noelle Roberts)
Snow Blind (Jean Roberta)
All Keyed Up (Scarlet Chastain)
Ghost Lights (Erzabet Bishop)
Winner Take (Andrea Dale)
Worth the Wait (Beth Wylde)
Lambda-winner Debra Hyde wrote the introduction.
Q: Are all the stories super explicitly hot?
A: Stories range from heavy sensual to scorching. There’s sci-fi, BDSM, contemporary, interracial, and historical. I think it’s a good mix.
Q: What is your story, A Taste of Vanilla, about?
A: It is a story of discovery, about a bi-curious woman meeting a potential partner for the first time. Not to spoil, but she learns to enjoy herself in a public place!
Q: Where can readers buy this book?
A: You can buy it now here:
Amazon | All Romance eBooks | Smashwords
All royalties from the book go to charity. Everybody involved gave their time and talent, and I thank them!
Q: And if a reader wants to check out more of your books?
A: I have a completed backlist available here:

Hump Day Hook – Sitting on Santa’s lap in HEY, SANTA #HDH #eroticromance #99cents
Hello everyone! I’m sharing another excerpt from my NEW release, HEY, SANTA.
She grinned, his cock twitching from her wicked stare. And when she sat on his lap, her soft hair brushing against his cheek, he groaned. No other female specimen compared to her in sex appeal. He stared at her lusty curves, wanting to touch and lick, imagining her pouty lips around his cock. So much time had passed since his last sexual encounter. He yearned to taste her, fuck her until she screamed his name. But so many reasons left him treading carefully around women, least of all to get caught groping someone while on the job.
He feared the authorities looking into his background. One he didn’t have. At least not until five years ago.

Who knew an unconventional education could be so sinfully exquisite? #HistoricalRomance by @LaynaPimentel
A SINFUL EDUCATION
Pleasure Garden Follies book 2
by Layna Pimentel
Who knew an unconventional education could be so sinfully exquisite?
Lord Charles Avonlea has evaded marriage over the last year, but his mother is determined to find him a wife. Far from consenting to any of her choices, he sets his sights on the one woman unavailable to him, his best friend’s younger sister. With no regard for the law or her impending nuptials, he is determined to make Lady Emily Thompson his bride. The only trouble is, he’s stumbled upon dangerous information and hopes he can get to her before it’s too late.
Stunned and dismayed at discovering the arrangement between her mother and the Duke of Downsbury, Lady Emily Thompson searches for a way to break the marriage pact with the duke. She longs to be with the only man who indulges her curiosity, yet finds herself in the middle of a scandal that will crush her dreams forever.
Will she find a way out of marrying the duke, or will she find herself in the same predicament at the previous duchess? Which was dead.
EXCERPT
How would he perceive her after tonight? Would he deem her the most incorrigible female ever bestowed upon London? Or, would he call her a minx and throw her out of his room? Her only desire was to learn, to educate herself in the ways of pleasure for when her time came to be a wife. To become a wife in name was not an option, nor did she want to play second fiddle to another woman. Yet, the truth be told, Emily desired to get closer with the earl.
Suddenly, the image forever engrained upon her mind of a woman’s mouth wrapped around a manhood seemed more of a challenge. The kind of challenge that would certainly scandalize any respectable female. But she desired to know the intricacies of said intimate moments. Perhaps Charles would find it as pleasurable. Emily shook her head and pulled off her covers.
She rose from the bed and put on her slippers and robe. Using the utmost discretion, she opted to leave behind the candlestick and left her room in the dark, knowing all too well it was only the two of them in this side of the house.
Emily gently closed her chamber door and swept down the hall, pausing outside of his room. The glow of the fireplace danced across the floor under the door, but all was silent. Perhaps he was reading from the privacy of the curtained platform bed or standing in the window, basking in the view the west side of the manor offered.
She quietly opened his door and closed it behind her.
No one stirred, nor made a sound.
She took a step forward, parting her lips to call for him.
A soft moan caught her attention and uncertainty crept up her spine. She should not have proceeded, but went on to appease her curiosity. Stealing further into the room, she paused in the corner.
She caught sight of his lordship through the break of the curtains. Charle’s eyes were closed, chest exposed as his hand moved beneath the sheet barely covering his waist. Lord, he’s a sight to watch, but what exactly is he doing?
Emily moved closer, but could not make head or tails of his motions. That is, until he called out, “Emily.”
He moaned then kicked off his sheets.
Good heavens, the sight of him was impressive. Dark, curly hair dusted his chest. His muscles so refined that the creases begged her to touch them. Dampness settled between her thighs again. What the hell is wrong with me? Did he just moan out my name?
She could see clearly now as he stroked his manhood.
Emily gasped and stepped back, bumping into a chair. Drats!
Avonlea opened his eyes.
She lost all sense of what she had stumbled upon. She should not have been there, no matter how glorious or how beautiful he looked with his eyes closed, or how impressive his body appeared. She would land straight in purgatory for this sin and many others, but she stood at the edge of the platform still.

“Don’t be someone who defines her life by someone else’s death.”
Dee Dee DeMarco’s brother, Alex, was funny, free-spirited and creative. He was also gay. Tormented by bullies, Alex killed himself on his 15th birthday.
Two years later, and now in college, Dee Dee believes getting a summer job working with a college-prep program for disadvantaged high school students is a stroke of luck, until she discovers that the guy assigned to co-lead her group is Cameron Connelly, a star basketball player and one of the bullies who tormented her brother to death. How can Dee Dee possibly spend the entire summer working so closely with one of the boys she blames for her brother’s death?
AUTHOR’S NOTE: I think this is a little story with a lot of heart. I hope you think so, too!

The Excerpt
We were told to meet at 9 a.m. and by that time it was just a few minutes after the hour, there were 10 of us assembled, five guys and five girls. I recognized two of the girls from my Shakespeare class. They were English majors like me but I didn’t know their names. They were a year ahead of me and were in a sorority. Sorority girls didn’t associate much with non-Greeks like me and especially non-Greeks who looked like me: hair dyed multiple colors, tattoos on both wrists and heavy dark eye makeup. My mom liked to say my drastic change in appearance my senior year of high school was about me putting up a wall not only to keep other people out but to keep my emotions in. She was probably right on both counts.
I scanned the rest of the group, which was a mass of unknown faces until I hit upon a face that was forever burned in my memory. Cameron Connelly. He was one of three people who I hoped to never see again for the rest of my time on Earth.
Cameron looked different than I remembered him. He was still tall and muscular, with messy blond hair and sea green eyes. But he looked older and harder than the carefree basketball player everyone in our high school adored.
I was overcome with a plethora of emotions: fear, dread, anger, hatred and every other negative emotion I had been harboring for the last two years. The feelings were so strong, I couldn’t breathe. I tried to relax but the harder I tried, the more tense I became and I nearly passed out. Luckily, Sofia grabbed my arm before I fell to the floor.
“Are you okay?” Concern covered her face.
I tried to speak but the words got stuck in my dry throat. I just shook my head.
“Are you hot? Do you need some fresh air?”
What I needed was to get away from Cameron Connelly—forever.
Before I had a chance to respond, Sofia led me toward the front doors and pulled me outside.
“Take a deep breath,” she ordered. I got the feeling she had younger siblings who she mothered. She had that way about her.
I inhaled a deep breath of humid New Jersey air. New Jersey wasn’t known for having the finest air quality and the summers could be hot and sticky. This summer was already proving to be no exception.
Sofia narrowed her eyes. “What’s going on?” I felt like she could see right through me into the deepest recesses of my soul. She was the first person who had ever looked beyond my so-called daunting appearance and dark clothes (my cloak of gloom as my mother called it) to even truly see me at all.
“Nothing,” I replied even though I had the distinct feeling that Sofia wasn’t about to let it slide. I was right.
“Come on. Do I look stupid to you? I’m from Newark. I’ve not only been around the block a few times, I’ve been up and down it, too. Now, I’m going to ask one more time and this time you’re going to give me a real answer. Got it?”
“Yeah, I’ve got it. I don’t think you’re going to have any trouble handling the high school kids, that’s for sure.”
That got Sofia to smile. I already figured out that she didn’t smile much but when she did, it was genuine.
“Seriously, what’s got you so freaked out?” she asked, her tone softened.
“There’s a guy in the group, Cameron Connelly. Let’s just say we have a history. From high school. He’s not someone I ever wanted to see again.”
She nodded as if she understood but I was sure she didn’t. No one understood and that was part of the problem. The misery that shrouded me was far worse than she probably imagined.
“Well, let’s make sure he stays away from you then, okay?”
I nodded and gave Sofia a feeble attempt at a smile. I couldn’t remember what it was like to actually truly smile it had been so long since I’d done it.
“Let’s get back in there before they start without us,” Sofia offered.
I nodded and we both headed back into the crowded lobby.

Excerpt:
His lashes fluttered, then his eyes widened. The gun didn’t waver. “Who are you? Where did you come from?”
“I’m here for you, Farraj, or whatever your name is. I came to meet you. You know—”
He pressed the gun into her neck. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Hawa’a. That’s it right, what I’m supposed to say—some kind of watch word?”
Jaw clenched, his cheek twitched and she imagined feeling it under her lips. “Who told you that word?”
Balancing on her knees with her arms raised in surrender, she toppled onto her bottom. Grit clung to the back of her legs. Something’s not right. “Madame Eve, the woman who arranged our meeting. She told me to say Hawa’a, first thing.”
As much as her restricted movement allowed, she looked around. Tiny beach. Palm trees. Crystal clear water. The cove….
Annoyed, Siler nudged the gun back with her elbow and stood, brushing sand from her bottom and smoothing her wilting skirt. Sweat beaded her brow, and her carefully disheveled tresses cascaded in limp curls over her shoulders.
“What is this?” Knuckles bracing her hips, she glared down the lowered barrel. “This is not what I asked for. What the fuck? Is this some kind of joke?”
Disappointment rolled in her stomach and tears stung her eyes. I’m such an idiot. “You know what? Let’s just forget this whole ‘one-night’ thing, and I’ll go home.” Palms up, she took a step to one side then the other. The only evident path lay behind him. She would have to pass him, and the shotgun.
