Bags, Bags and More…Bags
No, I’m not dwelling on Michael Kors. Or Prada. Or even Louis Vuitton (much as I would like to). I’m talking about these bags:
Ah...Home Goods

Publix--my local grocery store

Trader Joe's--I could wander there for hours
I can’t possibly be the only person compelled to buy reusable shopping bags, as I see them everywhere–grocery stores, department stores, specialty stores…and I feel compelled to collect them all. After all, they’re only 99 cents or $1.99 at the most. Sometimes you shell out 3 or 4 bucks if the proceeds are going to charity.
And it’s green, right? Bring your bags, buy your stuff and stroll from the store knowing you’re helping the environment. Less plastic bags, the better. When I was in Hawaii this summer they wouldn’t give you a plastic bag for your souveniers. You had to buy one, put them in your own bag or carry out your purchases in your arms. Inspiring, actually.
Since I live in a coastal state, the marine animal experts all decry the use of the horrible plastic bag. The turtles and fish mistake them for food, get tangled in them and smother. Yikes! If that does’t put a pause in your step…
So, I’m not crazy or anything. It’s not obsession over the pretty patterns and all the stuff I can put in them that makes me buy these bags.
Is it?

Morning Fix
What do you need to start your day off right?
For me, coffee. And I’m not picky. I can make my own at home or I’m happy with Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. McDonald’s actually has good iced coffee now. But I’ve found that I can live without it in a pinch. For my husband, Diet Coke, but it’s so unhealthy that he’s trying to wean off it again. So maybe we’ll both switch to green tea. Do you go for coffee, tea, other? More sleep?
Happy Monday!

Weekend Reads: Homecoming Ranch
Hey, we haven’t seen much of Julia London lately. But good news, she has a new book out! The start of a new contemporary series.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia London launches a triumphant, emotional, heartwarming story about finding love, family, and home. A lonely childhood and an irresponsible mother has lead Madeline Pruett to create a predictable, solitary world for herself. But she is shocked from her cushy cocoon when a father she never knew dies and leaves her an inheritance, and two unknown sisters. Madeline intends to fly to Colorado, meet these mysterious sisters, and quickly return to Orlando to close the biggest deal of her budding real estate career.
For years, Luke Kendrick has juggled school and career and rescuing his family from illness, death and financial crisis, all without losing sight of his goals: building and selling his own dream homes. On the verge of realizing his dream, Luke is called home to Pine River to reclaim the ranch his father has inexplicably lost. Luke’s family knows he will put his life on hold to rescue them. . .again. Luke is not prepared for an uptight yet sexy woman in impractical shoes who thinks his ranch now belongs to her. Madeline isn’t sure how to put order to a rundown ranch, a pair of sisters who do not cooperate, or a place where roads have names like Sometimes Pass and men as ruggedly handsome as Luke Kendrick behave unpredictably. Sparks fly as Luke and Madeline clash over the future of the ranch. Madeline knows what she wants?until Luke teaches her a thing or two about breaking down walls, finding home, and the true meaning of family.
You can buy your very own Homecoming Ranch in print or e-book or audio at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/1611099579 or.

Happy Birthday, Molly!
You’re in luck! I ordered a little special something for your birthday, but their car broke down on the way to your house, so… maybe next year.
Let’s hope your luck continues. Happy birthday!
*this is funny, because Molly is afraid of clowns.
*this is also kind of mean, considering.
*I just remembered Molly is mastering jiu jitsu and could probably kick my ass.
*note to self, cancel clowns for next year.
What would you love to see show up for your birthday? What’s your (not so) secret fear?

The Time Traveler’s Blog
I love time travel romances! I don’t have to choose between contemporary or historical, best of both worlds. Dee Davis got her start writing time travels, and they’re all available again now.
Check them out on her Amazon page or her website.
Which reminds me… what do all you Doctor Who fans think of the new doctor, Peter Capaldi?
If you were able to travel through time, where would you go?

Weekend Reads: Stark Trilogy
Everyone else is reading them, if #2 on the New York Times list and #3 on the USA Today list is any indication (woohoo, go Julie!). So, yes, I’m finally catching on and reading Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me, J. Kenner’s masterful Stark series.
This sexy, emotionally charged romance continues the story of Damien Stark, the powerful multimillionaire who’s never had to take “no” for an answer, and Nikki Fairchild, the Southern belle who only says “yes” on her own terms.
Our desire runs deep. But our secrets cut close. Beautiful, strong, and commanding, Damien Stark fills a void in me that no other man can touch. His fierce cravings push me beyond the brink of bliss—and unleash a wild passion that utterly consumes us both.
Yet beneath his need for dominance, he carries the wounds of a painful past. Haunted by a legacy of dark secrets and broken trust, he seeks release in our shared ecstasy, the heat between us burning stronger each day.
Our attraction is undeniable, our obsession inevitable. Yet not even Damien can run from his ghosts, or shield us from the dangers yet to come.
Complete Me is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

The End of Summer?
Is it? Are you ready to throw in the towel, empty the pool and break out your autumn clothes? Or will you hang onto summer until they have to peel it loose from your clutching fingers?
Maybe the recent weather here in Southern NJ is making me feel fall-like? Waking up to 60 degree, humidity-free mornings? Sunny, cooler days…. It’s been simply beautiful here — but not really summer weather. Most local pools have cooled off already. Certainly not like last summer’s heat….
And, dare I say it?, I’ve even seen the back-to-school ads on tv! So far, I’ve not been wowed by them….C’mon Staples, where’s your usually-excellent crop of tv commercials??!
It’s not that I want summer to be over. Or that I have kids going back to school (well, I have one returning to college locally, but he handles everything himself so it feels almost pain-free!) and have to do school shopping or worrying. I haven’t even had a day on the beach yet!
Or maybe it’s because I want the Fall tv schedule to begin? HOMELAND, ONCE UPON A TIME, MODERN FAMILY, BIG BANG THEORY, GRIMM, and more? It’s only weeks away.
Sigh……
I’m not sure why I’m feeling like this — eager to move out of summer into autumn — but I do.
How about you? Are you ready for Summer 2013 to be done? Anxious to get to Autumn? What will you miss or what do you look forward to?

When We Were Young…
Buzzfeed ran a feature on famous authors when they were coming of age. See it here.
But they failed to ask us for our pictures! I thought it would be fun if some of my Whine Sisters or you readers sent in pictures of yourself at that awkward age. Or maybe you were gorgeous? Of course you were. Whine Sisters, you can add yours right in here to my post if you want to play along. Readers, if you email me pictures, I will put them up. slberwin@comcast.net.
Here’s mine:
I’m looking up, maybe hoping that Simon LeBon was sending me a proposal in sky-writing, but more likely just showing off my fancy hairdo. I was dreaming of becoming a Von Trapp, perhaps?
Didn’t we all have that sweater in the 80s? For those of you old enough to remember the 80s. I think Molly Harper might have been just taking her first baby steps back then.
Anyway, you’ve been challenged. Let’s see those young adult photos.

A girl and her dog!
