A Taste of Gold and Iron | Betwixt the Books Review | Queer Fantasy Books

Wherein Michaela and I review a book we had ARCs of and were meant to talk about at least two weeks ago but Michaela was once again stricken with plague and it all went to hell. Might be a little late, but it is still here and for that we can rejoice.

The Kiss Curse ARC Review | Gimme a good sequel and a PSL

While this book did not involve the romantic pairing I thought we were going to get after The Ex Hex, I still ended up enjoying it! I think that this one has a lot of the same pluses and minuses from the first book, but a stronger plot that pulls it through at the end. Let me explain!

Nonfiction that hype made me read | APRC Supplemental #16

Look at all these new nonfiction releases! (Okay, one that’s not so new, but I do these in reading order so it’s fine.) I have some more prototypical president stuff, political science, and a couple of memoirs – and they spanned both the “I did not like this” and “I really liked this” spectrum. Let’s dive in!

Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews | ARC Review | Fantasy Romance

I really love this series, but the finale had some struggles. I think I focused on those more than the good because it was easier to talk about, but don’t let that dissuade you from checking this series out! This was trying to wrap up a lot from a complicated story and had a lot to handle.

Heartbreaker by Sarah MacLean | ARC Review | Historical Romance

Sarah MacLean is one of my favorite historical romance authors, and if this had not been good I would have been destroyed. Thankfully, Sarah ALWAYS has my back and this may be my favorite series from her yet! Not my best review, but it just made me so happy.

Recent Royal Reads | Nonfiction Reviews

I wanted to take a break from my normal reads, which weren’t working for me, so I went on a bit of a nonfiction, British royals binge. This was a wild trio of books, with the good, the bad, and the absolutely surprising. I can’t wait to share it with you!

The Fixer Upper by Lauren Forsythe | Romance ARC Review

Guys, I am desperate to find something that’s really going to wow me. This one really wasn’t it either. While I think Forsythe has positive signs for the next one, this one actually made me a little uncomfortable with the set up. Just not for me.

Oh boy | From the Jump by Lacie Waldon | ARC Review

This one is going to get a bit ranty. Let it be known that it is because I really enjoyed Lacie’s first book (and recommend it!) and this did not meet my expectations. Oh boy, here we go!

What Moves the Dead | Horror Novella ARC Review | Betwixt the Books

Wherein Michaela and I review the wonderful retelling of Poe’s Fall of the House of Usher by T. Kingfisher and surprisingly I liked a horror book??

Book to Doc Review: The Family by Jeff Sharlet

This is one of my most niche features, but I love doing them because I love documentaries so much. In this one, I review and compare the book and docuseries (available at this moment on Netflix) versions of The Family by Jeff Sharlet!
