Six sentence Sunday – more from Hidden in the Night

Thanks to all who visited last week for my first Six Sentence Sunday!  I am continuing with Hidden in the Night, which focuses on my bad boy with the shattered heart, Aiden.

"I love you, Aiden," she said quietly.

"You are my existence," he said back.  He always felt that "I love you" was never adequate to describe his true feelings for her.  It barely scratched the surface of how he felt.  He was happy for the first time in his four hundred plus years.  He was whole.

Hidden in the Night – Six Sentence Sunday!

This is six sentences from Hidden in the Night:

She remembered the first time she had laid eyes on Aiden. She had been bartending in a small place on the side of a Texas highway. She had felt a stare on her, and when she turned to the door, there he was. He was tall, dressed in black camo pants, combat boots, a black t-shirt, and a leather biker jacket. He stood somewhere between six and a half to seven feet tall, and weighed between two-fifty and three hundred pounds. His black hair hung to his shoulders, and his whiskey colored eyes seemed to burn her as he looked her over from the doorway.

An Interview with Aiden from Hidden in the Night

I have been wanting to interview Aiden for a couple of weeks now, but he keeps putting me off. Finally, I am able to pin him down and we meet at a bar in Carson City, Nevada.

Of course, I am running late. When I arrived at the bar, it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. It was a small bar that had seen better days. It smelled of old beer and stale smoke. The place was almost empty except for a few regulars who occupied the stools at the bar, and a couple people lounging in booths.

I found Aiden in a booth in back. As I approached him, he nodded at me once. Even though I had written his story and had met him many times before, his sheer size and the power that radiates off of him never fails to surprise me.

Carly: Hi, Aiden. Thank you for meeting me. I was beginning to think you were avoiding me.

He shrugged.

Aiden: Just have other people I would rather spend my time with.

Right. Okay.

Carly: So, I wanted this meeting to be a sort of post book wrap up. How are things going?

Aiden: Good.

Carly: How's Robert?

A warm smile creeps on to his face

Aiden: "He's good. He's doing really good."

Carly: "And Holly?"

Aiden's smile gets bigger.

Aiden: She's bossy and demanding. If I do what she says, there's peace in the house.

I laughed. I know that Aiden worships the ground that little female walks on.

Carly: What about Thaddeus and Emily?

Aiden took a long sip of his beer.

Aiden: The babe is well. Thaddeus is stressed out, and he is driving Emily fucking crazy. Hell, he's driving us all crazy. There's about to be a mutiny and get him out of the house until after the babe is born.

Since everyone was talking about kicking Thaddeus out of his own house, I knew he was being terribly difficult.

Carly: When is the babe supposed to arrive?

Aiden: Sometime in the next three to four months. You know you can't pinpoint that stuff.

Carly: How's Rohan? Is he still around?

Aiden nods.

Carly: Do you think he'll talk to me the way you and Thaddeus have?

Aiden: Don't know, Carly. You'd have to ask him.

Right.

Aiden cleared his throat.

Aiden:  Anything else?

Yes there was. I wanted to tell Aiden I was so happy that he had finally found his peace. That he looked good, instead of the walking wreck he was when I first met him. That Holly seemed to bring out the best in him, and if I was being honest, I was half in love with him myself. But I didn't really say any of that.

Carly: No, Aiden. Just that…I'm happy for you.

Aiden:  Me, too.

He actually winked at me, slammed back the rest of his beer, and left.

I think I'm in paradise!

While Hidden in the Night was being published, I took my son to visit my parents.  We spent three days at Lake Tahoe.

Since I grew up in the area, I have spent many, many hours up at the lake.  It was the party spot of my youth, and I have many memories of fun in the sun.  I also lived up there for a while and was able to enjoy the lake every day.

Despite all the time I have spent there, Lake Tahoe never fails to take my breath away.  It is just magnificent with the deep blue water, the surrounding mountains capped with snow and the cool breeze that comes off the lake in the afternoon that smells so fresh and clean.  If they could bottle that…

If you have never been to Lake Tahoe, put it on your bucket list.  You won't be sorry!

With Love,

Carly

An interview with Thaddeus from Shackled to the Night

An Interview with Thaddeus

I had the opportunity to interview Thaddeus a couple of weeks ago.  Nice guy.  And damn, the man is nice on the eyes.  We met at an Applebee's just after the sun set and had a quick dinner.  Here is the transcript of the interview:

Carly:  Hi, Thaddeus.  Thank you so much for meeting me and telling me your story.

Thaddeus:  Sure.

Carly:  Okay.  So.  Like I said, I appreciate it, especially since I'm human and I know it's against your race's Behavior Doctrine to let humans know about the existence of vampires, so I am grateful for all the access.

Thaddeus:  Sure.

Carly:  So, how's Emily?

A warm smile came over his face at this point.

Thaddeus:  She's good.  I told you she's got a babe within her, right?  And it's a female vampire?  Can you believe that?  A fucking female vampire?  Excuse my language, by the way.  But shit…how awesome is that?

Carly:  I think it's wonderful, Thaddeus.  I hope I get to meet her.  Do you have any names picked out?

He sighs and stabs at his chicken breast.

Thaddeus:  Actually, we're doing a little arguing about that.  She wants something eccentric, I want something a little old fashioned.  One thing we do agree on is the little girl will not be named Rusalka!

He laughs.  And I do to.  I wouldn't strap that name with my worst enemies daughter.

Carly:  I don't blame you, Thaddeus.  Can you tell me what else is going on in the house?

Thaddeus:  Well, there's some shit with Aiden.  I'm not sure what that is, but he can tell you about it.  I can't believe the guy has a kid though.  Man, I didn't see that one coming.

I nod, and let him talk.

Thaddeus:  And I can't believe he fell in love with a human.  I mean, I did to, but let's face it – before Mother Nature showed up, Emily and I were toast.  Rusalka was going to make sure we were very dead.  He did it, and no one intervened.  Must have been that sixth sense he has going on that kept him hidden…that's the only thing I can think of.

I watch as he looks out the restaurant window and runs his hand through his blond hair.

Thaddeus:  He's one lucky motherfu…he's one lucky guy.

Carly:  So, do you have an inkling on what's going on with Aiden?

Thaddeus:  Yeah, probably.  But that's not my story to tell.

Carly:  Well, do you think he would share it with me?

Thaddeus puts down his fork and takes a long drink from his whiskey and coke.  He looks around the restaurant as if contemplating his answer.

Thaddeus:  I don't know.  You'll have to ask him about that.

He drinks his whiskey and coke in one long slurp, takes another stab at his chicken breast, and asks if we're done with the interview.

Carly:  Almost.  Just one last question.  How close are you to getting Victor Marano?  It seems the guys slicker that a wet fish.

Thaddeus nods.

Thaddeus:  That's the understatement of the year.  I have Cy looking into the owners of the warehouse we found.  Aiden and I are going out almost nightly looking for those little shits who keep killing people.  Frankly, I'm not sure what else to do.

Carly:  Well, I hope you find him and make him pay for the pain he's caused you and Emily, as well as Emily's son Brandon.  I can't believe that Victor is his father.

Thaddeus puts down his fork, takes a deep breath, leans forward and looks me in the eye.  When he speaks, his voice is low and deadly.

Thaddeus:  Let me make on thing very clear, Ms. Fall.  First, that motherfucker may be the sperm donor, but I'm Brandon's father.

I nod, speechless at the intensity of Thaddeus, and the sensitivity he has to my words.  And I may be a little afraid as I know I am sitting across from a vampire.

Carly:  I'm sorry, Thaddeus.  I didn't mean to offend you.  I simply meant that he has caused more pain to your family than I can imagine.

Thaddeus sits back and nods.

Thaddeus:  He is a dead male walking, Carly.  A very dead male.

With that, he gets up and leaves the restaurant.  I notice on the way out he gives our waitress some money, and points to me.  She nods, comes over and asks if I need anything else.

I shake my head.  Thaddeus is nothing but a gentleman, yet he can be deadly beyond belief when needed.

As I walk out of the restaurant, I scan left and right, afraid that I might be in for some retribution from Thaddeus for my gaffe.  I don't see him, but I see Aiden in the shadows watching me, which scares me even more than if I had seen Thaddeus.

As I get into my car, our eyes meet.  I start up the engine, my eyes still on him, and he nods.  Then he turns and vanishes into the night.
