Vampire of Arkyne: Novel Synopsis

Author’s Note: Back in the day, and apart from short stories, Vampire of Arkyne was the first ‘proper’ thing I ever wrote. I say ‘thing’ because in the beginning, I couldn’t decide whether it should be a novel or a film script. In the end, it became both — though not without huge amounts ofexpansion and paring down, bothefforts being of epic proportions! And to my equally epic friends and mentors, some who’ve read it in both formats, and were generous enough to give me feedback, I reiterate a...

Breathe

Morning off – precious writing time. Wake up early, all is quiet. Thinking story, plotting, pacing. Too tired to move. Okay, bathroom break – mirror looks grubby, the lot could do with a clean and de-clutter. Not now. Back to bed. Turn on laptop. No, breakfast first, quick cereal. Kitchen, blinkers on. VIVA LE DIFFÉRENCE! So inequality means that the larger proportion of talent currently working in the industry are men, right? How many of them do you know? How many of...

Black Dogs and Fuckery

More often than they care to admit, sensitive, intelligent and creative souls fall down into the pit of depression sometimes. And I’m not talking the ‘blues’ here, like when your favourite jeans don’t fit anymore, or you didn’t get that job, that ring, that funding for your project, that house. No, what I’m talking about is that big black dog, the silent visitor that comes along every now and again, scratchingits ugly claws at the door while you keep pretending, keep trying to ignore it. Keep...
