Who’s hitting the beach? You know this salty wench will be. Anyone hoping to see a pirate or a mermaid? Find buried treasure? Catch a killer wave or a crispy burn?
Tell me about today’s prompt. Sure, she could be a siren about to kiss the life from a hapless sailor, dragging him to the bottom. Or maybe she is a selkie saying a sad goodbye to her Scotsman. Could they be young lovers frolicking in the calm surf? Does danger lurk beneath the surface? A large shark, perhaps? *shutters as the tell-tale music to Jaws plays*

Link of the Week – #cockygate
Here in Romancelandia, we’ve had another kerfuffle that has left us a bit dumbfounded. It has been dubbed #cockygate, among other clever hastags. Seems an author is sending takedown notices to other authors who use the word “cocky” in their titles. This author is threatening legal action if they do not comply. You see, she has a registered trademark on the word. As you might imagine, this isn’t going to go well.

And now one of our own, who happens to know a thing or two about intellectual property being a lawyer, and all, is about to go after the author like a dog with a bone.
I understand that dopey author @FaleenaHopkins has filed a trademark on the word "cocky" and is now threatening other self-published romance writers who use the term or the keyword.
She's about to get a big surprise – I intend to file a Petition to Cancel her trademark!

Link of the Week – A Voice, Indie Author Support Network
Indie authors are long past being tired of the Zon’s antics. Such monkey business includes rank stripping, disappearing reviews or page reads, sketchy Terms of Service rules, the ease of which scammers are able to take advantage, the lack of transparency, unfair wielding of power, and so much more. Most of the woes come from the Kindle Unlimited (KU) program but can affect all authors, whether they exclusively sell with Amazon or distribute wide using different platforms. But no matter what we say or do, Amazon ignores our concerns as if we are pesky little peons.
Currently, a new organization is being formed with the idea that indie authors are a massive force that can not only provide support to one another but give indie authors a voice.

While this group is still very much in its infancy, I suspect this will catch on like a raging wildfire. It’s already gaining momentum.
