Writing prompts to kick-start your muse.

Could go so many ways. Who is she and who is going to make her a criminal? Is she a cop who has buried deep undercover with a biker gang? A girlfriend who has been dumped again?  A mother whose little darlings have pushed her too far? A warrior’s protege who will go to any lengths necessary to protect her kingdom? A supermodel put on another diet?

Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.

Ah, so cozy. Or is it?

Tell me about today’s prompt. Are they newlyweds, the morning after exchanging vows? Is he a sheik wooing his next unsuspecting conquest? Is he a French billionaire entranced by the ballerina on tour in his city? Had he spiked her espresso with poison? Are they both married to someone else and now planning how to get rid of their extra baggage?

What’s your take? Tell me a tale or caption the pic. I’d love to hear from you.

Uh-oh.

What could today’s prompt be about? Who are these people? Why is he gasping in pain? Why is she enjoying it? Is she a black widow snuffing out her 6th husband with a healthy dose of arsenic? A vampire turning her lover so that they can be together forever? Had she been a victim of abuse and now exacting revenge? Is she a spy gathering intelligence by any means necessary?

Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.

Hump Day Kick Start – Mermaid Sunning

Hump Day Kick Start – for your muse, a writing picture prompt, or ju st a visual treat.

Rare mermaid sighting!

Who are these mermaids? Are they waving goodbye to their pirate lovers? Beckoning ships closer so that they wreck upon the rocks and then steal the hapless sailors’ souls? Has Poseidon set a dangerous challenge for suitors who want to win the hand of one of his daughters? Is this a cut scene from the Little Mermaid?

What’s your take? Tell me a tale or caption the pic. I’d love to hear from you.

Link of the Week – Numbers to Words

I accidentally stumbled over this while looking up a particular rule on writing numbers. It’s a number-to-word calculator. If you aren’t entirely sure how to write a number out, this tool might come in handy.

I dunno. That might not be so bad.

Who is today’s prompt? Why is he lost? Does he have amnesia? Made terrible decisions throughout his life? Took a wrong turn in a strange new town? Had the woman he deeply loved left him in some heart-rending way?  What does he find on the island? A sobering experience which will help him find his way back home? The girl he once had a crush on? Every unmatched pair of socks? Gilligan?

Share your ideas and/or post your creations, even if it’s just a line or two. I’d love to hear them.

Link of the Week – Publishing Words & Terms

Today’s site is all about job opportunities in the world of publishing.

Bookjobs.com serves

to provide a centralized place for job seekers to research available positions throughout the publishing industry, and to provide basic information about the book publishing industry as a whole—commonly used words and terms in the industry, department descriptions, companies, events, and other information.

But the page I’m linking to is a handy-dandy cheat sheet to terminology used in publishing. From editorial to production to sales and more, you’ll find it here.

Hump Day Kick Start – Waterside Edition

Today’s prompt is a little soggy. Who is she and is she on the banks of a lake or the sea? I’d like to think she sitting in a coastal tidal pool. Is she lamenting because someone stole her voice? Or waiting for her pirate lover to return? Could she be a siren debating on whether she should stay on land with the man she loves or return to her home beneath the surface? What if she’s plotting to drag someone into the depths out of revenge? Perhaps she already has is regretting what she’s done and is grieving him. Or maybe she’s just bummed that Shark Week is over.

What’s your take? Tell me a tale or caption the pic. I’d love to hear from you.
