Bitten Shame Release and Review
Bitten Shame (Book 2 of the Bend-Bite-Shift Trilogy)
By Olivia Hardin
Jill Prescott returned from self-imposed seclusion to help save her best friend Devan’s life. Throwing herself into Devan’s problems and bringing an evil organization to its knees might just be the distraction she needs to keep living without the only man she’s ever loved. Her life changed forever when she was hired to spend a week with Doc Massey. On the day she became a vampire her youthful innocence ended, but Doc’s love rescued her from being consumed by the darkness. The shadow of that former life continues to loom over her, keeping her from realizing her own self-worth. Running from her past only brings her closer to a destiny that is inextricably connected to what she is trying to escape…

Bitten Shame Review This is book 2 in the bend, bite, shift trilogy and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s centered around Devan’s friend Jill. Each chapter is like a tiny cliff hanger as you move between current times and Jill’s past. It’s like reading two books in one, with both stories so good you can’t decide if you want more of the past or more of the present. Personally, in the beginning the time jumps had me a little off kilter because I wanted more of Jill’s past, but as the present day story developed, I wanted more of it too. The character development is great, the story is fantastic, and the text is well written. I look forward to book 3 in this series as it is one of my favorites!

Immortal Voyage / Kindle Giveaway
I’m getting to the end of the edits and hope to send out ARC’s of Immortal Voyage out soon. To celebrate I have two rafflecopters going. One is for a Sterling Silver Garnet ring and the other for a Kindle. You will find both of those raffles at the end of the post.
I know I usually do excerpts on Fridays but I’m so excited about getting this book wrapped up I decided to post one today. So, here it is....
Immortal Voyage
“My Laird, the priestesses from Hy-Brasil are here,” announced the young man, half out of breath from his jaunt across the grounds.
“Well, don’t just stand there, lad, bring them here post haste,” shouted Rowe, pacing the foot of his wife’s bed.
As soon as the boy was out of earshot his wife, Mila, chastised, “Rowe! Must you scare the poor lad? You act as though this is the first time I have given birth.” His tall, handsome figure moved back and forth in front of the hearth, casting a restless shadow across the room. His pacing and snippiness wore on her already frayed nerves. “You need to calm down.”
He turned to look at her, worry written across his brow. “I’m sorry, but this birth is unlike your others. I have every right to be worried, especially now that the priestesses are here,” he confessed, before walking to her bedside.
She winced as the muscles around her stomach contracted and let out a deep breath as it finished. “I can’t be worried about what may or may not come to pass. We will only know when this child has been birthed; until then, I refuse to think of the worst. Plus, you do enough worrying for the both of us.” She snorted, rubbing the once tense muscles on her belly.
“I wish you would have allowed me to take you to Hy-Brasil,” he said, clasping her hand. “It would have put my mind at ease, Mila.”
“You know why I refused. I would rather die than give up this child,” she professed, squeezing his hand firmly.
“Don’t say that,” he whispered, bringing her fingers to his lips. “There is still the chance the priestesses will take the baby.” He sat in the chair next to the bed and ran his fingers through his hair.
A light tap on the door redirected his attention. “Enter,” he yelled from his chair. Two figures shrouded in cloaks stood in the doorway along with the lad he startled earlier. “Leave us.” He waved off their escort.
The taller of the two pulled back her hood to reveal an unearthly beauty. Her long limbs moved with unnatural grace as she approached Rowe and Mila. “I understand your concern, but you know the deal. It would be unwise to leave a child here to be persecuted for being different,” she said bluntly.
“Salima, there is no need to keep yourself masked—you are among friends,” Rowe said to the priestess.
Salima’s skin turned the color of the sky on a clear day and her eyes change to those more reminiscent of a cat than human.
“I have no intention of going back on our agreement, and as per our contract, if the child’s appearance is normal, it will remain with us,” he cited.
Standing, he strutted to where the other woman stood. “And you are?”
The other figure stepped away from the closed door and removed her cloak, placing it on a nearby table. Unlike Salima, she was of normal stature and color. Her light blonde hair was pulled back from her young face and held in place with an ornate clasp. “I’m the priestess Var,” she stated as she bowed her head briefly in respect. “King Varen sent me to ensure a smooth transition, regardless of which way it may turn out and to help with the birth,” she added in a soft, kind voice.
“How fares King Varen?” Rowe asked, rubbing the side of his temple to relax the tension in his furrowed brow. He footed back to Mila’s side and clasped her hand.
“My king fairs well and wishes you and your lady would visit again soon. He misses your company.”
Mila’s face contorted with pain as the next contraction engulfed her. She squeezed Rowe’s hand until the pain subsided. “I don’t think it will be much longer.” She winced as she let go of his hand. “Go to the hall and make arrangements for the crowd who will come the moment it’s born.” She chuckled, recalling the masses who showed up for Halis’ birth two years ago.
“I shall take my leave then.” He kissed his wife one more time before making his way to a grand room with three large fireplaces that served as the meeting hall and kitchen for his clan. He sat on a stool next to the center hearth and watched the flames dance as his mind wandered. Had this all been a mistake? He looked back on his and Mila’s decision to have this babe. But his thoughts were interrupted as he was joined by the cook who prepared the fire to make the mornings bread.

Interview with Langston and Sarina
Sarina: So, handsome, rumor has it that you’re a hedge witch? What powers do you have? Is it something really cool like hammering a 6 inch nail through a board with your…
Langston: *raises a hand to stop her words even as a blush creeps into his cheeks* Sarina, your beauty is unmatched, as are the vulgar words which pass your lips. My magic has accumulated over centuries. It is a mixture of the innate powers within my blood and knowledge of the use of nature’s own gifts. I have learned much in my years on this earth.
And you, Sarina. Would you like to share with the readers what it means to be a siren?
Sarina: Ah...the life of a siren. Imagine being able to persuade the hottest immortals and supernaturals that you’re the object of their desire—no strings attached. There are few that can resist my song, except death, but sometimes even the angel of death has a hard time telling me no. Although, I think he’s just a horn dog and not really under my spell. I don’t have many of the emotions that humans suffer, such as love, regret, or much of a conscience for that matter. It’s all about pleasure and its fulfillment.
And don’t try to act all innocent with your school boy blush. I know a little something about you and a certain vampire, and now your new lady...This so called soul mate of yours whose-name-I-forget. What’s the deal with you two? How does she feel about swinging? Are you blushing again?
Langston: Perhaps it is good that you do not suffer regret, else you might regret the inability to experience love’s affliction. Love is a beautiful suffering indeed. *a warm smile smoothes his expression as he gets a faraway look in his dark eyes* My heart has belonged to Kristana for a very long time, but our fates were never aligned. The gods sometimes can be cruel indeed, shuffling us around like so many pieces on a chessboard.
But then you know a little something about the gods, don’t you, Sarina?
Sarina: Yeah, I know what you mean about the gods. I guess that is why I tricked Ares into making me one. I would rather be the one doing the shuffling than the one being shuffled. I use my powers for good—most of the time. It’s hard when you lack a moral compass.
*fans self* Is it getting a little hot in here? I hope you don’t mind if I get comfortable. *stands, removes dress, and tosses it in Langston’s face. Walks to small kitchen bar and fixes drink in a lacey push-up bra and thong* Vodka, Rum or Whiskey? How much liquor does it take to get a hedge witch drunk enough to do something stupid?
So, how are you and Kristana doing? I hear the orphans are keeping her busy. *makes distasteful face at the mention of children*
Langston: If you insist, I will accept a bourbon. Straight. Kristana is quite busy with the children, and the ghosts of course. Even so, we have managed to make time for each other. When one is in love, one does that. *tries to avert eyes, but finds his gaze drawn to the sexy siren* Ahem, you employ such brazen tactics, Sarina. Is there any man you will not go to great lengths to bed?
Sarina: Let’s just say I like a good challenge. *snaps fingers. Is now wearing a little black dress. Hands Langston his drink* And yes. There are many men I wouldn’t even bother to acknowledge their existence.
For instance, that pointy eared bastard, Sy. If not for Femi I would have bed him already. I’ve had experience with ghosts, been there, done that. Autumn can enjoy her ghostly lover without my interference.
Then we have sugar britches, Dorian. Being the angel of death makes him immune to my powers, but when he is done playing with his mortal Gwen, I’m sure I will hear from him. In many ways, when it comes to random sex without emotional attachment, he and I are much alike, but every once in a while he lets his heart get involved and that spells trouble for everyone.
Of course there is you Langy poo. Not that I don’t enjoy your company and the challenge of a good chase, and God knows a man of your stature is surly well endowed. I just can’t deal with all the sappy love stuff. So, if you and Katrina don’t work out, call me.
And let’s not forget about Jack......
Langston: *takes hearty sip of his drink, then releases a deep sigh* You seem to focus a lot of attention on Jack, which is surprising. What do you find so appealing about him, I wonder?
Sarina: Appealing? Bwahahaha...That was me totally forgetting about Jack. He spends too much time trying to impress me by talking about his military training and he smells of she wolf. Neither of which is very appealing. I would find him more interesting if you ran him through the car wash and slapped a piece of duct tape over his mouth.
It was nice talking to you Langston. Femi and I are getting together to cause a little chaos and I don’t want to keep her waiting. I hear Sy is going to be there and he’s bringing a friend. *Winks*
Langston: *sighs in relief as he watches Sarina leave the room, swinging her hips provocatively in the process* Some things in life never change, no matter how long your life happens to be. Sirens are one of those.

The History of Coffee - Keurig Giveaway
In honor of the Keurig giveaway, I thought I should write something coffee related. Okay, I have always associated coffee with South America, so I was a bit surprised to find out it originated in Ethiopia sometime around the 9th century.
Yep, that’s right, as the legend of Kaldi, the goatherd goes. It is said he discovered coffee after noticing his goats, upon eating berries from a certain tree, became so energetic they didn’t want to sleep at night.
The Arabs were the first to cultivate and trade coffee...Sorry Starbucks, but they invented the first coffee house. Coffee was a great addiction to replace the alcohol their newly found religion forbid them to drink. Not only did they drink coffee and engage in conversation, but they also listened to music, watched performers, played chess and kept current on the news of the day. In fact, they quickly became such an important center for the exchange of information that the coffee houses were often referred to as ‘Schools of the Wise.’
At some point the Arabs tried to maintain a monopoly in the early years of the coffee trade. But, unlike oil, coffee is a plant and can be grown in many places, which is exactly what happen...The Europeans took their business elsewhere, but not before local clergy condemned it, calling the beverage the ‘bitter invention of Satan’. You know it had to be something good if the clergy condemned it, because in the 17th century the clergy condemned everything good...Alcohol, dancing, sex...including sex with your spouse. Eventually Pope Clement VIII tried the beverage himself and approved its consumption.
In the mid-1600's, coffee was brought to New Amsterdam, a location later called New York by the British. Though coffee houses rapidly began to appear, tea continued to be the favored drink in the New World until 1773 when the colonists revolted against a heavy tax on tea imposed by King George. The revolt, known as the Boston Tea Party, would forever change the American drinking preference to coffee.
So, the next time you have a cup of coffee don’t forget to do a toast to the Arabs for their monopoly which helped to spread coffee growing across the world by other countries, King George III, who taxed the crap out of tea, leading Americans to find a replacement, and Kaldi the goatherd, who was willing to have what the goats were having.

Hunter Moon Review
Hunter Moon (Lupine Moon Series) by Cait Lavender
Bawling cattle tore Shelby Flint from her bed. With lawyer fees to pay in her struggle to keep her ranch from the clutches of her greedy cousins, she couldn't afford the loss of even one calf. When she sees a large wolf circling her cows, she aims and fires.
While the wolf escapes, Shelby can't seem to get away from her troubles when a marijuana grower sets up shop on her land, sabotaging her property and eventually coming after her. Adding to that, a handsome game warden is poking his nose into her business and working his way underneath her skin. Shelby will have to fight harder than she ever fought before to keep from losing heart and everything she ever loved.

Interview with Cait Lavender interview
I know you get a lot of questions asking why you started writing and is it something you have always done, but that crap is boring, so I came up with my own questions that are completely irrelevant as to why you write.
When you wrote Shelby as a virgin, was she originally intended as a sacrifice?Wow. Um...can't say as she was. I basically wanted Shelby to be too busy struggling to operate her ranch to have had any significant relationships until Cash. Also, I kind of tried to imply that Shelby, since she's Cash's mate, was fated to be by herself until she met him.
Moon seems to make its way into many of your titles, is this because you write werewolf novels or is it some underlying desire to dance naked under it?While the main reason for the moon theme is the werewolf aspect, while it doesn't force lupines to shift it does affect them in other ways you will learn about later, let's be real, who doesn't desire to dance naked under the moon?
Tell us a little about Cash and your inspiration to write him, who is your muse?I don't have any specific man I've modeled Cash after, just a general idea of what kind of man I wanted him to be. He's a throwback to the days when men were men, chivalrous, respectful, and knew how to treat a lady. I've always been of the mind that even though women should be equals with men, they should still treat us nicely! I do have a picture of a guy that is the closest I could find to my mental image of Cash (and if anyone knows who he is let me know and I'll love you forever).
Do you get offended when people ask you if you grew-up on a farm? I'm only asking because Shelby is a good ole cowgirl with a ranch and everything. What made you want to write about a cowgirl and ranching life?Hahaha, no I'm surprisingly hard to offend and that definitely wouldn't do it. I actually haven't grown up on a farm, but I do live on a ranch and raise cattle with my husband. I wrote about a cowgirl and ranching life because it's what I know, what I'm familiar with and I love cowboy culture.
In this book we only get a glimpse of who werewolves are, will the sequels give us a better look into their world?Definitely! I'm a huge tease, what can I say? I don't like to show my hand right off the bat, but torture you all with little tidbits in a short here and sequels there. I'm also writing the first book in a new series based in the same world as Shelby's, so there will be new characters mixed with some old friends and I'll also keep revealing aspects of werewolf nature.
Shelby knows her way around a firearm, is this from your personal experience? My poison is a G21 SF by Glock, what do you like to shoot?I've got a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm, Browning 20 gauge and a Ruger.357 but I pretty much like to shoot anything. I love target practice with my handguns but my favorite is skeet shooting.
Okay, back to Cash....It bothers me that you left him with a serious case of blue balls. In Hunter Moon the sexual tension runs high throughout the book all the way to the cliffhanger at the end. What do you have in store for Cash and Shelby in book two?Well, without giving too much away, his balls will be a nice healthy shade of pink. There will not be any cliffhangers at the end, I promise, at least concerning Shelby and Cash. They won't disappear though ;)
Where can readers pickup Hunter Moon? Hunter Moon is available on Smashwords, Barnes & Noble and Amazon and soon the paperback version will also be available on Amazon through Createspace.
What are you working on?Like I said earlier, I'm working on Honor Born, the first book in a new series that is set in the same world as Hunter Moon but reveals the darker aspects of it, including evil witches and demon-possessed bloodthirsty vampires. You also get to meet Eli, a tall, dark and handsome knight who rides in on a metal and chrome horse.
My Review of Hunter Moon by Cait LavenderUp front, I'm not really into cowboy stories or cliffhangers, of which this book has both. I volunteered to read Hunter Moon before I knew that it was a cowgirl book or the ugly cover was chosen. And it is a good thing I did, because with that said, I would have missed out on an incredible story. You can't help but love Shelby for who she is – A very strong willed woman who knows how to handle herself and handle a gun (I have to admire her for that). Cash is the uber sexy male component of this adventure who Shelby cock blocks at every turn. The sexual tension is way over the top and will leave you screaming "Will you just F&@K already!" I couldn't put Hunter Moon down and when I got to the end I wanted to throttle the writer for not having a proper ending, it seemed like the book just stops randomly. But that might just me and my hatred of major cliffhangers. So, I'm giving Hunter Moon 5 of 5 Stars. And if you are wondering why I'm still giving it 5 stars after all the things I didn't like about it let me explain. They are nothing compared to the fantastic story behind the ugly cover and I can't wait for book 2 to come out. Yeah...It was that good!!!

Hunter Moon Book Tour
