Staycations, Birthdays and New Computers
Happy Tuesday world! As many of you may have known, yesterday was my birthday and it turned out to be a good one. It was my husband's first day back to work, after taking an 18 day Staycation, which was a gift in itself. Not that I don't love the Mister or anything, but 18 days at home together is just 16 days to many.
I also got my new computer in yesterday...Which as soon as my husband got home, from his first day back at work, after 18 days at home (yes I know I am repeating myself), he insisted we take the computer out of the box. I, on the other hand was perfectly happy leaving it in the box until I was ready to play 20,000 questions with it—also known as I'm a new computer, now tell me your life's story, home network , key code, password, etc... But no, he insisted on taking it out of the box. Now, in a normal house, when a new computer arrives, a person might carefully take it out of the box and place it under the desk, then gently attach the wires as per the diagram, making certain everything is correct before nervously pressing the power button for the first time. Not here, no, we just dump it out on the kitchen table and open that Bitch up...kind of like a car mechanic at a car show, checking out what's under the hood. Oohing and aahing at the contents...look at the pretty blue lights!!!
The best part is, when Blizzard finally releases Diablo 3...I'll be ready, 1gig graphics card and all.

Update!! Lawn Mowers and Daylight Savings Time
Don't forget to become a fan of CG Powell on Facebook, I will be doing special things on the fan page, like contests to be a character in the next book and autographed copys of my current book. You don't want to miss out on those things.
Oh, I almost forgot. I have an update to Lawn mowers and Daylight savings time. After almost 4 years, the mister finally fixed the lawnmower!!!! Yey! That's right people, it was the first time in 4 years that my husband has mowed the lawn himself. And now that the kids are 4 years older, it will most likely be the last time he mows the lawn, until the youngest, now 11, graduates high school. Which leads me to believe this was a planned long term breakage, as he waited for his children to grow tall enough to reach the pedals and sit on the seat at the same time.

Spell Checked is now Published
At long last, my first work of literature has finally been released. "Spell Checked" is now available on Amazon, Barns & Noble and Smashwords. Printed copies will also be available on Amazon as soon as I get the proof in the mail and okay printing.
What a journey that has been. Now the fun part....Marketing! Okay, I'm being sarcastic here, I am not a sales person, but now it is time to become one. You see, what is the point in writing a book, if you are not willing to push it one everyone you know and meet? I just need a game plan, one that I can execute on my own or for little cost, as this little venture into writing has already cost about $700, before it was even published. I have a lot of books to sell to make up that cost.
I would love to know. If you have published anything before and what worked for you as far as marketing? I don't want to become that person on Facebook or Twitter who does nothing put plug their product. I don't like it when people do that to me and I'm sure others don't like it either. I like to talk to people, get to know them and not so I can push my book on them. I will honestly say, this is the part I have the hardest time with. Writing, editing, formatting and making a book cover were far easier in comparison.
I will now leave you with an excerpt of the book. The first 30% is free on Smashwords if you would like to read more before you decide to buy. Just click the Smashwords link in this post or under the book cover on the side, it will take you there.
The end of Chapter 9
Meredith and Gemma both got up and put their arms around her in a group hug. Mae hated being such a whiner, it was not a role she was used to playing and this whole pity party deal was not working for her. She just wanted to sleep through it for now and make another attempt to get over it at some later date.
"I will put you to sleep. I hope you don't mind if Gemma and I stay up and talk?" Meredith led the way down the hall and back to Mae's room.
"I don't mind. In fact I am glad you have become friends because I don't know what I would do without either one of you. Ironic how the one man in this house, that we all love to hate, has brought us girls together." Mae crawled back into bed and tried to relax as Meredith worked her magic. Her mind went completely blank as she drifted to sleep.
Gemma watched Meredith work her spell. "How long will your spell work?" Gemma asked.
"I hope the entire night, but with Mae you can't tell, she is very different than the rest of us Witches." Meredith walked around the side of the bed and turned off the lamp before she and Gemma went back to Gemma's room to finish their conversation about Aidan.
"I don't know how you have managed to date him no less than ten times and for three years straight!" Gemma squealed while sitting with her legs crossed on the bed.
Meredith was walking around the room when she confessed. "Were not for Helen, I think I would have gone after Beck instead." She stopped cold in her tracts, realizing the error of what she just said.
Gemma gave her a puzzled look. "Who is Helen?" She hugged her pillow waiting for the response.
Meredith had just opened a can of worms and it would not be easy to explain without doing damage. She sat on the edge of the bed with one leg curled under her and the other still on the floor and looked at Gemma pensively. "I guess I need to start at the beginning, if you are to fully understand," she sighed. "How is your Greek Mythology?"
"The story of Beck and Helen goes back to the days just prior to the Trojan War. His name had been Paris in those days. The Veshtu had become the Gods of Greece and Rome at the time and spent much of their time meddling in the business of their half breed children. It was at the wedding banquet of a friend that most of his troubles began. One of the Veshtu named Eris was left off the wedding list as she had a tendency to cause strife. She was insulted by this omission and plotted her revenge. During the banquet Eris threw the Apple of Discord engraved with the word Kallisti- "for the most beautiful one" in front of the three most prominent Female Veshtu….Hara – Wife to their leader Zeus, Athena – Tactician and strategist of the Veshtu, and Aphrodite – Scientist in charge of the breeding program and the most beautiful of them all. Not being ones to suffer from humility, their vanity took over and an argument ensued as to who the apple was meant for. Zeus was asked to settle the argument for them, but he feared that it would cause chaos, if he, their leader choose a winner. So he delegated the task to Paris, the most intelligent and handsome among the half breeds.
They all attempted to bribe poor Paris; Hara offered him ownership of Europe and Asia. Paris knew that keeping ownership would be the problem with this offer so he passed. Next was the bribe of Wisdom and skill in battle offered by Athena. Paris was already more intelligent than most and as a herdsman had no need for skill in battle, so he would also pass on Athena's offer. The last bribe was from Aphrodite, she offered him the love of the most beautiful human on earth…Helen of Sparta. This seemed like an odd bribe to Paris since Vampires are not one's to dabble with love. Love was not logical and went against their nature, but Paris had once allowed his human side to rule his life and could remember what it was like to be loved. He also knew the pain and emptiness love could leave at the hands of death. So a deal was struck with Aphrodite, he would accept the offer of Helen's love and proclaim her the winner, but in return Aphrodite had to promise that Helen's consciences would be reborn to a different body upon her death. Paris never wanted to feel the pain of loss again. The one thing Aphrodite failed to mention was that Helen was married to the king of Sparta and Paris would have to steal her thus starting the Trojan War." Meredith paused for a second before she would explain that Helen had returned in Mae's body.
"Beck started the Trojan War?" Gemma leaned forward in interest as she asked her question. "And in the books Paris dies and Helen ends up with her husband in Sparta."
Meredith readjusted her legs under her. "Yes, he did and Aidan helped him steal Helen. As far as the written history, we tend to bend the truth to fit our needs. We don't want humans to find out they have immortals living among them, so we sometimes write our own deaths to hide the actuality."
"What does all of this have to do with Mae?"
Meredith paused; this was the part she did not want to answer. "Mae is Helen's host, but Helen is not able to take over Mae's consciousness because she is not human."
Gemma furled her brow and shuttered. "You mean Mae could eventually become Helen? Is that why Beck keeps her close? If it is, I don't like this situation at all." Gemma got up and started to pace the room.
Meredith watched Gemma walking circles around the room. "When Beck went to meet Mae for the first time he had assumed that Helen had already taken over which is why he left the bar that night in a hurry. But it did not take him long to fall in love with Mae and not because of Helen. He battled his conscience over this very issue to the point of almost killing himself. That is when he decided it was Mae that he wanted and not Helen." Meredith was fidgeting as she tried to explain what Beck had confided to her.
Gemma stopped pacing and sat on the edge of the bed near Meredith. "How do we stop Helen from surfacing?"
"Beck asked me the same question," Meredith snorted. "And like I told him, I haven't a clue as to how to remove Helen. I am afraid that whatever mechanism Aphrodite put in place those thousands of years ago, is well beyond our comprehension. Please understand that this was not something Beck had control over…he did not choose to make Mae, Helen's host. All he did was fall in love with Mae after the fact."
"Why hasn't he told Mae about Helen?"
"He is afraid she would leave him. You saw what kind of chaos that created today. Look Gemma, Beck is a good man and wouldn't do anything to hurt Mae, you have to understand what he is giving up to be with her…He and Helen have been together for thirty-five hundred years and it was not an easy choice for him to let her go, not to mention the fact that he has been off the market since the Trojan War and hasn't a clue how to date." She laughed stretching her legs across the bed next to Gemma.
"I just don't want anything to happen to Mae. I hate to add to her confusion but she needs to know about Helen. This is her life we are talking about." Gemma threw herself back on the bed and lay down.
"I have told him the same thing and he said he would when he thought her ready for the truth," Meredith sighed.
I know I just threw you into the middle of the book, but I like my bent up way of telling the Trojan War. The Veshtu are an Alien race that became the gods when they would visit. I tell their history and the history of another race in Chapter 2, which is part of the free download on Smashwords.

To Glock or not to Glock?
I feel bad about ignoring my blog, but let me explain!!!
I have been working real hard at getting "Spell Checked" out the door and starting the next book in the series "Exile Bytes".
As it stands, I got it back from the editor, completed all the fixes, finished the formatting and published it, so I can get it out to reviewers. I am still looking at a release date of 1 September, for those interested in buying the book. Now that it is published (on some obscure web publisher) I cannot prevent people other than reviewers from purchasing it. So if you really feel like you cannot wait until the release date to read it...It might come up on Google and it can be bought ahead of time, but I'm not willingly giving out the info, because the official release date is 1 September.
I have made the outline for book 2 "Exile Bytes" and hope to start writing on it soon (this week). I would like to have this one ready to publish by the end of October. I did not leave the first book on a cliff hanger, but the story will continue in the second book.
So it has been a while since I have seen Officer Barns, I think he is hiding from me. I have managed to stay out of trouble lately, which is difficult for me. Most likely the result of trying to get my book published. Now that my first book is published I'm sure it won't be long before I am up to my usual shenanigans. Especial now that I am getting a gun and a concealed weapons permit. I'm thinking 9mm Glock, although most of the shooting I have done was with a 38. I'm sure the police department will be thrilled that I am armed. I have already taken down one of the locals at my front door with an 18in saber, when he surprised me at 4am to do a wellness check. I think I scared the pee out of that poor Rookie and almost got tazed. Thankfully I now have a peep hole to prevent that mistake again.

UPDATE! Priority Mail – If the mailman decides to come today
There are lots of good things about living in a small town. Traffic is when it takes more than 5 minutes to get across town, locals complain about the line at the DMV if there are more than 3 people in front of them and I can get fresh organic food from local farms at a fraction of the cost. But all of that goodness comes at a price. The nearest mall is 32 miles away (which sucks if you are a city girl), the job market is limited and the Mailman picks-up and delivers mail when he feels like it.
I find it intriguing that I have become friends with the FedEx guys Darren and George, and the UPS guys John and John (weird how they have the same name) but for some reason unknown to me the mailman is elusive. I have tried to say hi on numerous occasions, but he ignores me. When I have a package that has to be signed for, I get this look like I just inconvenient him. I am vexed by his behavior and it saddens me that he is so unfriendly, because he is very cute…except for that attitude of his. So when Christmas rolls around and Darren, George and the John's all get cookies and gift cards, you my friendly postman will get nothing!
And would it really hurt you to deliver my mail everyday (except Sunday), I only live a mile from the post office for Pete's sake.
Update: I finally got the mailman to smile….although he was very late delivering the mail that day J

Book 2 "Exile Bytes"
Hello Blogaverse, after a 2 week break (editing L) I am finally back at my keyboard writing again. Below is the temp cover for book 2 "Exile Bytes"….I love Jimmy Thomas at Romance Novel Covers his work makes me swoon!!
I'm taking my kiddies (characters) to China in book 2. I hear it's where all the really cool Vampires hang out…or at least where Nikola Tesla (Vampire) hangs his hat. It's all fun and games, until Mae's parents land their space ship in the Mongolian Desert and get followed by a Demon Assassin (Demons make the best Assassins). I feel the need to cause chaos with the lives of others today…so, it looks like I am going to start this book in catastrophe! Who do I kill first? I don't care much for small children, so I am leaning towards getting rid of the fetuses first…They don't bring much to the book so, nobody will miss them.
I need Sea Monkeys, so I guess hatching Brine Shrimp eggs is on the to do list today…my tank is getting kind of empty since my husband keeps feeding them to his fish.
Question of the day…What type of characters would you kill off first? What is a good city in China, for a couple of Tech savvy Vampires to live in? Does Purple really clash with Green?

Interview with Author Evelyn Lafont
Hello and happy hump day everyone. Today I have with me, the witty and talented Mrs. Evelyn Lafont, author of "Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume 1: Meeting and Mating".
What gets you in that mind set to write about Josie and all those hot Vampires? I just let my mind wander a little. I think about Josie and just start day dreaming about a weird situation that may or may not be planned for the books, and then I'm ready to go.
Are there other beings that Josie might run into on her adventures? Oh yes! You can expect some other supernatural creatures. In book two, we watch as Josie is introduced to the were community.
Does Gregory have a not so evil twin that is also rich and hot? Lol, I don't think so, but Gregory wasn't exactly the open/sharing type, so who knows?
What are some of the strangest places you have either written or had sex in? Please don't specify which one is which…we all like a good mystery. Wow. Um, car, city hall, office, store room, kitchen, Alligator Alley, grandparent's house, Airstream trailer…
Is Walker doing Sturgis this year? It's where all the bikers like to hang out. Walker is not a group event kind of guy. He might have taken Josie to a biker bar, but he went right inside to get close to his girl, he didn't bother talking to any of the bikers there.
Any juicy surprises in store for us in book 2? I think Josie needs a little revenge! There are a couple of big surprises but Josie doesn't get any revenge, although I think you'll be happy to find out what the National Vampire Fund did for her after the incident with Gregory.
Tell us about your new website VampLure.com VampLure.com is a monthly e-zine set in a world where vampires exist and are on the prowl for traditional women to sexify. VampLure is like the Cosmo for vampire lovers. It's got sex tips, horoscopes, advice articles and all the things you'd expect in a women's mag but with a little more…bite. It's a free site for readers to enjoy while they wait for the next book in the series to come out. Eventually, the Vampire Relationship Guide cast of characters may make some appearances.
Josie works at a bridal shop, is this a manifestation of your own deep personal desire to be a bridal consultant? I worked in a bridal shop for a number of years. This gave me an intimate familiarity with the world of weddings. I got married while I worked for the shop and actually decided to elope at City Hall in a short black dress with no family or friends present.
Now time for some quick questions: Red, White or rum?
Rum
Stilettos or flip-flops? Flip flops for day wear, stilettos for sex.
Mexican or Japanese? Mexican.
Beach or Mountains? Arrrggg…beach, but this is a close one.
Chaps or Kilt? Kilt.
Sedan or SUV? Sedan.
Monkeys or Crocodiles? MONKEYS!!

The Trouble with Jinn
Remy was accustom to wandering the deserts of Sintaus 5. His parents had been explorers of this world when he was a child, left to play in the ruins of a civilization that had long disappeared, as his parents mapped and researched what was left of it. As the years passed its mysterious landscape became as ingrained as any home could be, to a child of off world explorers. Now that he was an adult of twenty-seven years Sintaus 5 had once again brought him into her fold. Remy was part of a team of scientist sent back to this desolate planet to find out if colonization was possible, on this once luscious world. He and three others had volunteered to spend the next ten years trying to unlock its secrets, before their government marked the planet as unsustainable for mass habitability and moved on to the next location, some 200 light years away.Dr. Tintin had spent much of his life exploring other worlds, his white hair contrasted against his overly tan, weathered skin. This would be his last exploration party as his bones could no longer keep up where his mind would have them wander. He was grateful to have three hand selected scientist with him. Dr. Nugilis or Angel as he liked to call her was an expert at locating subterranean water. Dr. Zimmer was not only a medical doctor, but a master tracker, her expertise had been honed by her race thousands of years ago, as a means of survival on her planet which is covered in thick jungle, and Remy, their expert on Sintaus 5 and doctor of archeology. Their shuttle landed just yards away from the largest set of ruins on the planet. Eager to be back on the planet he remembered as home, Remy popped open the hatch and took a deep breath of the arid air as he exited the shuttle. Angel had already grabbed her gear and began to work. Water was the first thing they needed to find or this whole mission would have to be scrubbed. "Hey Angel, I think I remember a deep water well not far from here. You want me to show it to you?" Remy offered enthusiastically.Dr. Tintin disembarked the shuttle and began to spout orders. "Remy, let Angel do her job. I need your assistants setting up camp. Angel, make sure you take a phase pistol with you, if you plan to go anywhere out of our line of site."Angel opened one of the conex boxes she had placed on the ground moments ago and removed a holster containing a pistol. She strapped it on to her hip and began to walk towards the ruins. "I will be back in thirty minutes, if not, feel free to look for me," she said as she turned her tracker on."Remy, make sure we are tracking her on the mainframe before she gets too far," ordered Dr. Tintin.Remy ran back into the shuttle and pulled up the tracking screen. "Everything looks good Dr. Tintin.""Good, good. Now please help Dr. Zimmer with the tents. It will be night soon and I am expecting a substantial temperature drop. It will not please me to have to spend another uncomfortable night in the shuttle.""Don't worry Dr. Tintin, Saran and I will have those tents up in no time," Remy smiled as he unloaded one of the larger conex boxes containing tents. Before long all three tents were up, one large work tent and two smaller housing tents. Remy was resting on a block of stone drinking from his container of water, when he realized that Angel was still not back from her search for water. "Has anyone heard from Angel?"Dr. Tintin was sitting in the shuttle looking at the tracking screen. "I have her located in the same spot she has been in for the last hour. I tried to contact her by radio but there is no answer. Maybe you should go check on her Remy."Remy looked over at the screen, taking note of her location. "She is right next to the well I was talking about earlier. I'll go get her," he said as he strapped on his pistol and grabbed the hand held computer.Remy made his way down what looked like an ancient road that led into the city. As he passed through the large arch of what appeared to be gates, he noticed the air getting thick with moisture and a low fog began to cover the ground. It was something he had never witnessed here before. The planet was pretty much one large desert, the only water was located deep within the crust. He continued to walk until he reached the town center where the well was located. Angel was sitting on a stone block next to the well typing on her hand held computer when Remy approached her from behind. "You must have found something phenomenal, for you to miss your check-in and ignore Dr. Tintin's calls."Angel just sat there typing on her computer as if Remy were not even there. Remy walked around the well and stood in front of her. As he gazed down at her, he was shocked to find her eyes glowing with a beautiful blue hue as she continued to type. He reached forward to touch her shoulder, when she abruptly looked at him and began to speak. "Tu atha natu retori sa. Retori sin tu et tu nata," she yelled at him as if he had disrupted her from something important.Remy stepped back as her hands flew even faster across the keyboard of her computer. He pulled out his hand held and called Dr. Tintin. "We have a problem. Angel is physically okay, but she is talking in some unknown language. It's like she didn't even recognize me.""Go ahead and stay there with her, Dr. Zimmer and myself will be there shortly."Remy sat down on a block across from Angel and watched her peculiar behavior. Just as he could hear the voices of Saran and Dr. Tintin coming from the distance, Angel stopped typing, let out a sigh and crumbled to the ground. Remy dashed to where she was lying. "Angel! Angel! Wake-up!" he yelled as he picked her up in his arms. She began to open her eyes and mumbled, "What the hell just happened?""I was going to ask you the same question. When I got here about fifteen minutes ago, you ignored me and then started yelling at me in a language I have never heard before," he said as he sat her back down on stone block.Angel rubbed the back of her neck as Dr.'s Tintin and Zimmer joined them and she explained. "I was sitting here taking water samples when I notice a blue glowing smoke rising from the well. I don't remember anything after that."Dr. Tintin bent down and picked up Angel's hand held computer. He began to read what she had been typing during her memory lapse. "It appears we are not alone on this planet. Anyone ever heard of the Jinn?"They had all heard the stories of the mythological Jinn, a race of beings that could bend the elements and the minds of others to their whim. But that would be a story for another day.

Today's blog: Going to Luray Caverns for the 100th time – Bad idea!!!
I had a lot of fun on Saturday, but not for the obvious reasons. I took a couple of friends from out of town, on a ride down Skyline drive through the Shenandoah National Forest and a tour of Luray Caverns. I know that sounds like fun, but I realized half way through the tour at Luray that my mind was completely in the gutter. I stopped paying attention to the tour guide after the first 10 minutes of the one and a half hour tour. Not because it was boring, but I guess I had been on that tour a few too many times. Soon I started seeing things in the rocks. Below are some of the photo's I shot in the cave…Do any of you see something strange about these rocks? Or am I the only one who felt they were surrounded by dicks on this tour…and I don't mean the idiot who brought the screaming toddler on the tour.
