PANK Magazine Just Gave MY BOOK a Super-Rad Review

PANK Magazine Just Gave MY BOOK a Super-Rad Review:

“After the Witch Hunt is a wonderful accomplishment for this first time author. Teachers of poetry and the language arts should use this text in the classroom setting for not only the originality of the poems, but also more importantly, the critical message of the text. Ms. Falley has created the best book I have read from Write Bloody in the last few years. She has revealed herself at the forefront of poets who are pushing the boundaries of written and oral publications.” -PANK

less than two weeks before i leave for tour, and me, miss brave face, keeps trying to push my heart back down my throat. so i remind myself of lion-hearted things i’ve done before: like when i climbed this tree that you could overlook the whole city from, layer-cake city view, and i was scared half to death. and i did it.

It's like

no, you douche, my book isn’t available on Kindle/NOOK. You know an author that wrote a book. Why wouldn’t you want an autographed copy that you can hold and smell and put on a coffee table? You’re missing the point.

I've been having an awful month. And by awful, I mean the kind of awful that just sticks to your bones and makes you gain like 10 pounds. But I recently discovered your work, and ugh--you're just perfect. Your words get me through the day.

I am far from perfect! But I am happy something I thought and wrote down and put out there was able to find the part of you that needed it. We’ll get through this.

So how do you stay creative and prolific when your day job sucks the very soul out of you?

here’s what worked for me:

clean your bedroom. put everything you own in boxes in the middle of the floor. dust, swiffer, mop everything. move around some furniture if you can, some of the wall decorations. then go through what you have in boxes and put it all away, making sure that everything you decide to keep fits you, and you find it purposeful, useful, or beautiful. Once you part with all the excess shit holding you down and beautify your surroundings, you will be much more apt to create.
In your new and beautiful space, play music & light candles often.
Read as much as possible. Short stories, novels, poetry books, essays, newspapers. Not Facebook. Really read. It is the most important fuel there ever was.
Download the “Self-control” app for your computer. This site can block your favorite sites to procrastinate on for as long as you want. Sometimes I’ll block Tumblr, Facebook & Gmail for 3 hours and just write.
Stop judging yourself. Some days your writing/art is going to suck, but you have to exercise the muscle so that when the good ideas come flowing, you’ll have the tools to implement them with. (That was a lazy mixed metaphor, but you get the point.)
Carry a notebook. Try to make time to write *something* every day. It does not have to be long or good, just something.
Experience life. Art doesn’t come from always being locked in a room waiting for it to happen. Go out to dinner, movies, drink wine, parties, call friends, take walks, and pay attention. It’s all happening around you.
Write.
