Cover for THE MAP OF ALL THINGS

Multiprocessing.  While on tour for The Winds of Dune, and editing chapters of Hellhole, I received the spectacular cover art for the second "Terra Incognita" novel, The Map of All Things.  Artist Lee Gibbons has done an excellent job; he wrote me that this was the first time he's been able to do "a full-fledged Ray Harryhausen painting."

Interviews and WINDS OF DUNE slingsacks

Brian and I arrived by train in Stamford/Old Greenwich, CT, for tonight's signing at Just Books @ Arcadia Cafe.  Brian and I each did a telephone interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to promote our signing on August 14, then Brian did another phone interview with the Toronto Star.  On the train and in the hotel room, I managed to edit three chapters of HELLHOLE.

Two more online interviews/features have been posted.

Day 3: WINDS OF DUNE, Radio Satellite Tour and Harvard

<!--StartFragment-->

Starting at 8:15 AM, after I had run to the Starbucks around the corner from the hotel, Brian and I met in his room, picked up the two phone extensions, and began working our way through 13 radio interviews around the country, one after another, with occasional breaks.  We talked on stations from Raleigh/Durham, Los Angeles, Grand Rapids (MI), Portland (ME), Baltimore (MD), Charleston (WV), Boston, Peoria (IL), Colorado Springs, Denver, Cleveland (OH, Pittsburgh (PA), and Jackson (TN).  Toward t

DUNE Land Features on Saturn's Moon Titan

Wonderful and unexpected news yesterday: scientists have named recently mapped features on Saturn's moon Titan after planets in Frank Herbert's Dune novels.  Just another example of how much of a widespread impact DUNE has had.  Read the full story here.

FanCrush Network has just run a detailed interview with me on their site, which you can read by clicking the link above.

Day 2, WINDS OF DUNE Tour: Boston

<!--StartFragment-->

No early call today, so we got a chance to sleep in.  I used the hotel gym for a quick workout, then ate breakfast and packed the suitcases for our morning train to Boston.  Sick of train food after traveling across the country on Amtrak, Brian went to an Italian deli across the street and got us each a wrapped sandwich for lunch, then we caught a cab to the train station.

Penn Station during morning rush hour was like San Diego Comic-Con with mundanes instead of fans.  After picking up our ticke

First Day of WINDS OF DUNE Tour

<!--StartFragment-->

On Monday, I arrived in New York in early afternoon and had a few uncommited hours to walk around Manhattan, past the Empire State Building down to Times Square, where I sampled the beer at the Heartland Brewery, then had pizza at one of my favorite places, John's Pizzeria, then I went back to the room and relaxed for the evening by rewatching the new Star Trek movie on hotel TV.  Brian's train came in that evening, and we arranged to meet in the lobby the following morning.

Today's work started

WINDS OF DUNE—next sample chapter

The second sample chapter of The Winds of Dune has now been posted.  You can read it on the MacMillan website.  The novel will be in stores in six days.

Tor also has a stunning new design for the mass-market paperback release of Paul of Dune, which comes out simultaneously with Winds.  Using the same excellent Stephen Youll cover painting, the designer converted it to a wraparound image that has the same striking feel as Winds.
