Mediterranean trip report
THE MEDITERRANEAN
I've been keeping a journal of the last week's travels, but haven't had a chance to post a blog until now. The cruise ship's internet connection is much too slow to upload photos; I'll post highlights when we're back in the US.
ITALY
Writing this initial report on our first evening aboard the cruise ship; Rebecca is sound asleep, and we have to get up very early tomorrow for a long day tour of Naples, Pompeii, and Capri.
Two days before leaving Colorado for Rome, nearly a...

Music in My "Office"
For a feature in next month's issue of Prog magazine, the photographer spent many hours setting up a photo shoot of me with part of my music collection in my writing office. Since I do most of my writing outside in nature, we felt this shot was most representative.
Meanwhile, Rebecca and I are nearly finished writing all the lyrics for the second Roswell Six/Terra Incognita CD to accompany The Map of All Things, next June. We've heard two of the demos so far, and the music really kicks ass. ...

Superstars Writing Seminars
Over the years, Rebecca and I have taught thousands of students in various writing workshops, and many of the attendees have gone on to become successful bestselling authors themselves. Many of you have listened to us lecture at DragonCon or other conventions, and we've given our seminar on "Things I Wish Some Pro Had Told Me When I Was Starting out" for many years at the Writers of the Future workshop.
Together with three other international bestselling authors—Dave Wolverton, Brandon...

Las Vegas Library Talk, Thurs. Nov 5
I will be giving a talk, Q&A session, and book signing at the Clark County Library (1401 E. Flamingo Rd) in Las Vegas tomorrow night (Thurs, Nov 5). I hope you can join me. The first 25 people will receive free Terra Incognita tote bags. I'll be signing Enemies & Allies, The Winds of Dune, Terra Incognita: The Edge of the World, and anything else you would like to bring. Rebecca will also be there, if you want to bring any of our Young Jedi Knights, Crystal Doors, Grumpy Old Monsters, or ...

Challenger Point (14,081 ft) Hike
This has been a tough hiking season for me—mainly because I've done so much traveling and book-touring during the best summer months in the mountains. Also, the weather turned cold and nasty very shortly after I finished the Winds of Dune tour and DragonCon the first weekend in September.
However, on Oct 18, the weather brightened and much of the snow melted in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. I had hoped to summit a Fourteener (peak over 14,000 ft) this year, as I've...

Blizzards and Editing
Over the past few days, Colorado has been hit by a tremendous early-season snowstorm. Schools and roads were closed for three days; we had over 18″ of snow in our driveway, and our street wasn't plowed for three days. (In the meantime, we ate most of the fresh food in the refrigerator and started in on all the canned goods.)
Fortunately, Rebecca and I didn't have any travel plans or anyplace we needed to go; Jonathan & Jessica had some wedding planning to do, and Jessica couldn't get out...

Star Challengers
Over the past month I've mentioned a new science-oriented young adult project Rebecca and I are developing along with the Challenger Learning Centers. Here is our more detailed announcement:
June Scobee Rodgers Presents
Star Challengers
by Rebecca Moesta and Kevin J. Anderson
A series of science fiction adventures for young readers (10–14) to promote interest in science education and to emphasize the importance of the space program
The challenge is to get kids interested in science.

Terra Incognita #2 Delivered
A few days ago I delivered the final, thoroughly edited and revised, eighth-draft manuscript for the second "Terra Incognita" novel, THE MAP OF ALL THINGS. 704 pages, 177,000 words, with a summary of Book 1 and a complete glossary, as well as a marvelous new map drawn by Richard Ware.
Many of you have written to ask how long it takes to write a novel. I outlined THE MAP OF ALL THINGS during our Panama Canal cruise in November 2008 (and you'll see some of those details in the novel). I had a...

Retro-Blog: From August On
Taking a break from editing Hellhole chapters to do a quick summary of the things that kept me too busy to post blogs since I wrapped up The Winds of Dune tour in mid-August.
As a pleasant change of pace after I came home, Rebecca and I had a chance to meet James LaBrie in person. James is the lead vocalist for Dream Theater, and he also sings on our Roswell Six/Terra Incognita CD, the character of Omra in the tracks "Ishalem," "I Am the Point," and "Anchored." We had dinner at the Wynkoop...

Coming up for Air
I just realized it's been more than a month since my last blog. I've been busy promoting almost non-stop from April through Labor Day in September. Enemies & Allies (Morrow, May), Terra Incognita: The Edge of the World (Orbit, June) and the accompanying rock CD Terra Incognita: Beyond the Horizon (ProgRock Records, June), and The Winds of Dune (Tor, August) as well as Paul of Dune (Tor paperback, August). Nearly a hundred radio, TV, print, and online interviews, four convention appearances...
