Morris Louis - Beta Tau

beta tau.jpg

De 1929 a 1933, Morris Louis estuda no Maryland Institute of Fine and Applied Arts. Morris Lo...

David Dominguez - Reading

             —For My Students

Breakfast, and I’m eating plain yogurt, figs from my garden, and honey.

I’m sitting in a lawn chair on the backyard patio—

life is good, and the sunlight warming my lap and the pages

of a book remind me of Tucson

and the subterranean apartment I rented alone and far from home.

There was a sofa in front of my one window

where at noon the sun burned briefly on the cushions as starlings

             stirred in the t...

From Retronaut:

The images Arbus made in Central Park and Washington Square are the subject of a new show, Diane Arbus: In the Park, on view at the Lévy Gorvy gallery in New York through June 24.

The exhibit features photos from throughout Arbus’ brief but storied 15-year career, including some of her most famous images, such as Child with a toy hand grenade in Central Park, N.Y.C. 1962, as well as many others that have never before been displayed.

A Day In The Life

“If you listen to my playing, I try to become an instrument; play the mood of the song. For example, ‘Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire,’ - boom ba bom. I try to show that; the disenchanting mood. The drum fills are part of it.” Ringo Starr

Of very few individual songs can it be said, ‘This changed the course of popular music.’ ‘A Day In The Life’ is one such song.

Recorded in January and February 1967, a large orchestra was assembled for the amazing additional flourishes and fills...

Raymond Carver - Wind

FOR RICHARD FORD

Water perfectly calm. Perfectly amazing.

Flocks of birds moving

restlessly. Mystery enough in that, God knows.

You ask if I have the time. I do.

Time to go in. Fish not biting

anyway. Nothing doing anywhere.

When, a mile away, we see wind

moving across the water. Sit quiet and

watch it come. Nothing to worry about.

Just wind. Not so strong. Though strong enough.

You say, “Look at that!”

And we hold on to the gunwales as it passes.

I feel it fan my face and ears. Fee...

Dancing Is The Best Revenge

New York City dance-punk band !!! (Chk Chk Chk)’s new video for ‘Dancing Is The Best Revenge’, taken from ‘Shake The Shudder’, out May 19th on Warp Records.

“When we recorded Dancing Is The Best Revenge I pitched up my voice, becoming Nicole Fayu in the studio - much like Prince became Camille and Morrissey became Ann Coates. the groove felt like a strut or walk and i imagined it akin to drag or ballroom culture.

After The One 2 video featured such strong dance performances, and was filmed in...

Sandra Simonds - “A new obsession. How to get out”

A new obsession. How to get out
of cold, metallic waters alive.
Every night for a week I dream
of my car ending up in a body
of water. If I’m not driving, someone
else is. Bob, the neighbor.
My new paranoia.
I Google how to escape a car
filling with water. I watch videos
on YouTube. I memorize the steps
of what to do if this happens. First,
you take your seat belt off. Late at night,
I read pages and pages on the internet.
What if the car lands
in the water flipped over?
Remember to stay calm.
If you panic,...

Tiny Dancer

Building on Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s Californian inspiration, Max Weiland filmed a video for “Tiny Dancer” that reflects on life in Los Angeles from a dozen different people, all unfolding behind the wheel of their cars. The Cut, proudly supported by YouTube, invited filmmakers to create the first official music videos for three of Elton John’s most famous songs: http://eltonjohn.com/thecut
