Wait! Before You Publish that NaNo Novel There Are Some Things You Need To Know
National Novel Writing Month takes place annually every November. The goal is to write 50,000 words in a month. When you finish you are a winner!
Yay! So, are you going to win this year by finishing your novel?
Congrats to you if you do!
I’m not doing NaNo myself because of time issues (that is code word for kids) but I am always working on my projects, so no worries there.
With the self publishing and ebook boom, this year’s NaNoWriMo is going to produce thousands more people finishing as winners than ever before. This is wonderful! But, what worries me is that most of these people will run off and publish their books without as much as a beta reader going over it.
People, please, you have to listen to me. NaNoWriMo is an exercise, a challenge. The idea is to let go of the editor in yourself and just write, to let the creativity flow. This does not mean that you should run out as soon as it’s done and upload it to Amazon or Smashwords.
Your NaNo Novel is a first draft and must go through the process of drafting, editing and beta readers, more editing, and then proceed with the steps into publishing. Believe me, if you send that baby out into the world before it’s ready, the readers and reviewers will eat you alive.
We need to remember, as writers and authors, that we are the ones giving self publishing and ebooks their name. WE are doing this… That’s right, WE the indie authors are the ones dominating the ebook industry!
If we send our books out there without being perfect, we set a standard of crap for all indie books out there. We all want to be a famous novelist, right? We all want to be that house hold name like Stephen King and Anne Rice, Right? Well, if we want to play with the big boys then we need to act like the big boys.
I understand that editing can cost money and maybe we all can’t afford that. Well folks, this part is actually pretty simple, save your money! It will be worth it in the end. There are also editors out there who will take payments if you look around.
I can’t stress to you enough how important it is for us to get a good editor. And choosing an editor who works well with you may take a few tries too. Most editors will do a sample page or two and then give you quote based on that. Getting samples is great because you can see their work and decide if you might work well together.
I have a good relationship with my editors because I’m easy to work with. They suggest changes and I pretty much just do what they say unless I really disagree and want to argue my point. I use Accentuate Author Services. The Birth of Jaiden was not edited by them but is currently being re-edited by them. I like their services because they have more than one editor on the project which means more eyes on the manuscript, which is very important.
Now…what have we learned today?
Write, draft, edit and then edit some more.
I know it can be hard to wait because you are so excited about finishing the book. I’ve been there, so believe me, I know this feeling. Try to be patient and it will result in a better piece of work in the long run.
Trust me.
Ok, I’m off now to shampoo my carpets (again) so good luck NaNo writers! May the muse be with you!!
Here is a little incentive for all you NaNo Writers!! I love this video

Beyond The Writing
A while ago I wrote a guide to self publishing and marketing. This book describes how I have navigated the world of self publishing and how I marketed my way to success. Lucky you! I have lowered the price to 99 cent and it will stay at that price.
Honestly, A tiny portion might be a bit dated because the Create Space has changed their process since I wrote it, but nothing serious. Also, the Face book portions might be off a little because of the new Facebook policies on promo. However, I promise you that you will still get a TON of info for a buck!
ABOUT BEYOND THE WRITING
Writers are driven often by creativity and artistic expression, which is great for the creation process. Once the book is written, though, a whole different type of process is required to market and promote the author and the book, and that’s something many authors have little knowledge or experience doing. To become a successful author, a writer must learn there is more to writing than putting the pen to the paper or fingers to the keyboard.
If you’re a writer, in order to make a living doing what you love, you must learn the business side of writing. This guide to self-publishing, marketing, and social networking is targeted at authors who want to succeed in the world of independent publishing as professionals. This guide is chock-full of tips, tricks and strategies to help you make your career as an author flourish.
PRAISE FOR JENNIFER MALONE WRIGHT’S
BEYOND THE WRITING: A GUIDE TO PUBLISHING AND MARKETING
“If you make the informed decision to self-publish, learning the business end of publishing isn’t easy. Jennifer Malone Wright offers advice and inexpensive ideas to market and promote your indie books based on her direct experience with the process. If you want to learn from someone who’s been there, this book will get you started down that path.” –Michelle Devon, Managing Editor, Twin Trinity Media, LLC
“To succeed at self-publishing you need a dream, that spark of imagination that sets you on the path of your writing adventure. Then you need the drive to get the book written, edited and out there. And lastly, you need the determination to make it a success. Jennifer Wright has all of these qualities topped with unbridled enthusiasm. She knows how to get it done!” –L.A. Freed, Independent Publisher, Lafingdog.com
“No one likes the process of self-promotion. It’s uncomfortable and awkward. After all, didn’t our mothers tell us not to brag? But with Jennifer Malone Wright’s suggestions, marketing gets easier. Her innovative ideas and willingness to experiment with her own work have made her the go-to girl for social media advice and marketing your self-published book.” –Luci Cosway, Romance and Erotica Author
“A must have for any writer wanting to break into the self-publishing world. Jam-packed with information, resources and the author’s personal experience, this guide is an invaluable tool. I’m certain it will help you as much as it’s helped me!” –Rose Shababy, Author

Interview and Giveaway with Dave Jewett author of The Bankster Chronicles
Today we have an awesome interview with Dave Jewett, author of The Bankster Chronicles. I am so excited to have thisinterview up for you because Dave is a great author and his books are different than what I normally read, but look very exciting. I have the first one, but haven’t started it yet because of time issues. It’s next on the TBR though.
Another reason this is so exciting is because I attend (not as much as I should) a writers group with Dave and have seen this book series grow into the published novels they are now. Please give Dave some support and leave comments as well as share this post for him. I am setting up a little giveaway down at the bottom for one lucky winner to receive a Kindle copy of book one in the series, “Edge of Darkness.”
Also, these covers just rock, don’t they?
Now, let’s welcome Dave to the world of indie authors and read the blurbs to his books and his interview!
Blurb for “Edge of Darkness” Book one in The Bankster Chronicles
“Give me control of a nation’s money, and I care not who makes its laws.”
– - – Mayer Amschel Bauer Rothschild, banker.
In the tradition of Atlas Shrugged, the Bankster Chronicles expose the truth about our world. It is a story, historical fiction, that unfolds through the eyes of vibrant, multifaceted characters – characters you will love, and characters you will hate. But more than that, there are embedded in these pages a backdrop of core economic and monetary principles, showing how a small number of people can control the world through their power over the creation of money and credit, and showing how an economic collapse can be created at their whim.
“As a great grandmother, I found this (story) easy to understand, fascinating, and
compelling. And I learned something new – I learned how our money works.”
With a gripping plot, the story begins in the New York City of the future, a city destroyed by poverty, violence, and neglect. And then the story quickly moves back in time to 1650 A.D. England, where the tale unfolds with the rise of the banking cartel. The story then moves to the 1950s and ’60s, with the main part of the story commencing in 1992 A.D. Book One takes the story to 2007; and Book Two resumes at the beginning of the 2008 economic crisis.
“So real, (the story) will forever change your view of government, and of bankers.”
This story has everything: good guys and bad guys, romance, intrigue, plenty of conflict, and riveting suspense. Within these pages a war is revealed: a war between those who desire liberty, and those who desire tyranny . . . and with this war, it depicts a future ending that ‘might be’.
A little background . . .
My name is Dave Jewett, and I’m the author of The Bankster Chronicles, which is historical fiction and is currently a two-volume set. My intention is to add to this series.
The Chronicles present a story based on economics, money, historical events, and the personalities involved in ‘all of this’. Much of this history has remained hidden from public view – owing to the fact that the bankers prefer to work behind the scenes.
Many who have followed the bankers’ history would consider this a ‘subversive’ work. It is known that the bankers (through surrogates) have assassinated people who spoke out against (or attempted to subvert) their schemes. For example, three attempts were made to assassinate President Andrew Jackson. Lincoln, McKinley, Garfield, and JFK were likely assassinated by the bankers, as was Congressman Louis T. McFadden, an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve. In addition, the attempt on President Reagan was likely because Reagan was considering using gold as money.
It is believed that many other assassinations have been effected throughout history – too numerous to name here.
The death of JFK is covered in Book One. The other assassinations will be covered in future volumes.
Am I at risk for writing these Chronicles? The answer is quite possibly, yes.
2. What inspired you to do write?
I studied economics for many years. And then I began to study monetary theory. The more I delved into money, the more it because obvious that we (the people of the world) were being ripped off in a major way . . . and also, that this rip off was going to lead to a catastrophe – world-wide poverty. But when I talked with others about this, few seemed to get it. And so I decided to write a story that would enable others to learn and understand the reality we all face, by connecting with various characters in the story.
3. Do you find that it is hard to get people excited about what you do?
No. At least, not in the circles I run. People want to know why our economy is so bad. They are looking for answers on how they can survive and prosper – and how they can make a better life for them and their families.
4. Any new projects coming up?
Yes. I’m planning the next volume in The Bankster Chronicles series. I’m planning on beginning with the panic of 1907, and then the takeover of the USA by the bankers. Of course, WWI, the great depression, and WWII will be part of this tale. This volume will also describe the bankruptcy of the U.S., and the transfer of all the U.S. gold to the bankers. (It is virtually certain that the U.S, government owns no gold).
5. What is your opinion on people who post bad reviews?
It depends. So long as the review is honest and constructive, I can deal with it. I have (so far) received one bad review. The reviewer (Big Al) said a lot of nice things about the story, and said that ‘. . . as a work of fiction, it’s a good story . . .’ He then proceeded to note some issues with the story’s content (ellipses, describing the same room several different times), and gave it two out of five stars. The text of his review suggests (to me, at least) a three or four star rating. I admit I’m somewhat perplexed – but my story is outside the mainstream and brings the reader to a place that s/he might not be able to accept. I think that Big Al falls into this category.
6. If you had one chance to get people interested in what you do, what would you say to them to get them to want to buy your art?
This is a topic that affects the lives of your children and grandchildren. Everyone needs an understanding of money – and these books will help to give you that knowledge.
7. Did your art come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
A need for expression. The chronicles I’ve written, I believe, are very important to mankind. Yes, I know that sounds grandiose – but it’s also true. Consider that money is one-half of every transaction, and that anyone who controls the issuance of money also controls all of commerce. The bankers have sufficient power to put every human into poverty. This is an indication of the scope and scale of these chronicles.
8. Do you prefer YA or Adult?
My two novels are written for the adult market, and I have no experience with YA. I must say, however, that a teenage girl, my neighbor, picked up a draft manuscript for my second novel and was drawn right into it.
9. Give us a sample of your work.
The sky was dreary as a sky could be in February, in England, with the leafless branches standing barren against the sky, slicing across the clouds with their dark, jagged lines. The grass, wet as it was, still had smatterings of snow here and there. And all of this – depression – rendering an image of a lifeless, soulless netherworld.
10. Favorite character you have written and why.
Brandy West. A smart, sexy, strong woman with an engaging personality.
11. Do you think that the future is ebook or print?
Both. I think that print will continue to thrive for non-fiction. I see e-book as the vehicle to drive fiction.
12. Where have you had the most success in selling your work?
The liberty movement. For those who don’t understand this, let me just say there’s a large body of people in the U.S. who believe in our Constitution – of which liberty is an important piece. People who are drawn to powerful individuals will likely find much in my books to enjoy.
13. Do you like vampires who sparkle or bite?
Interestingly, I see a strong similarity between banksters and vampires – they both suck the life out of their victims. I don’t like banksters, but I’m not sure about vampires. (lol)
14. Are you comfortable with your sexuality and does it play a huge role in your art?
I’m comfortable. And it plays a significant role – after all, how can I show characters without showing their underlying sexual identity and motivation.
15. Where can we find your page/address?
www.davejewett.com (incomplete)
17. Are you on goodreads? If so, please share your page address and has it helped you reach more fans?
Yes, I’m on Goodreads. Here: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
18. Do you sell your work in any stores? If so, where?
Aunties Books, downtown Spokane, Washington.
Amazon, Barnes &Nobel (on-line), other internet booksellers
18. How do you feel about all the bookstores starting to close? Do you think that it is just the corporate ones in trouble? Or do you feel that the small/independent ones are in danger too?
Brick and mortar bookstores are necessary to the industry, if for no other reason than they are the best place for readers to browse. And yet, the prices in brick and mortar tend to be higher than some online booksellers . . . so brick and mortar are at a price disadvantage. This inability to compete usually spells doom.
As a student of history and money, I have a background in economics, monetary systems, rare coins, and precious metals. I also work as a consultant and systems architect, and I live in the mountains of Eastern Washington, in the service of my two cats.
Thirty-some years ago, I listened to a lecture in ECON-201 – Macro-economics. The Instructor discussed the money supply, the multiplier effect of additional money, and the multiplier effect of an increase/decrease in the velocity of money (‘multiplier’ is a measure of increased economic activity due to an increase in the money supply and/or (money) velocity – that is, how fast money changes hands). The Instructor mentioned in passing the notion of money creation – and he spent, maybe, 30 SECONDS DESCRIBING HOW MONEY WAS CREATED!
I distinctly remember this moment, because I did a double take. Yet it was not until later, after several years of studying economics and markets, that I actually dug deeper into the theory of money. And the more I studied, the more certain I became that our monetary system is deeply flawed and inherently corrupt. I also became convinced that our system of money was at the core of our economic issues – in short, the ability to conjure money from nothing lends itself to all sorts of corruption and distortion in the markets, the economy, and in government.
What you see here, in my books, is a passion that has developed within me over the years of my research. My intention is to present issues on money within a framework of reality and history. I believe our system of money is at the root of the death of our country, if not all of western civilization.

Interview and Giveaway: Blog tour stop for The Moon Coven Series by K.B. Miller
Today we have a tour stop for the Moon Coven book series by K.B. Miller!
The Moon Coven Series, so far, consists of two companion shorts called Haunted Moon and Harvest Moon and the full length novel titled Compulsion.
Make sure to check out the rafflecopter at the bottom of the post and also download Haunted Moon because it’s always free!
Let’s start with the interview so we can see what K.B. Miller is all about!
1. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Write. Write as often as you can. Research the genre you enjoy writing, and write more. Do you see the theme here? As writers, we need to write to learn our craft, to progress. No one has ever come out of the gate with perfect sentence structure, syntax, grammar, or punctuation. That’s why we have editors. In short, your job is to write, so write.
2. What are your habits when you sit down to create?
I have to have complete silence, lots of coffee, comfy clothes, and my tunes. I’m like McGyver. Give me those things, and I can create something cool;)
3. Any favorite bands?
I love almost EVERY genre of music. But, some of my favs to write to are: Muse, 50 cent, FloRida, Metallica, and Montgomery Gentry.
4. Anything exciting coming up in the near future?
I have a new serial novel that’s debuting before the end of the year called Supernatural Society. I’m so stoked about this series, because it’s unlike anything that I’ve ever worked on before. This series is geared more towards the older YA crowd.
5. What has been the hardest thing during the process of creating your art?
Finding enough time to work. I have tried petitioning the government about that pesky 24 hours a day thing, but I think that they thought that I was crazy, LOL!
6. Five words to perfectly describe you.
*Outspoken
*Loving
*Hard-working
*Stubborn
*Honest
7. Favorite character you have written and why.
You haven’t met this character just yet, but I have to say Zander from Supernatural Society. He’s a straight-shooter, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Some of his one-liners absolutely have me laughing for days. He’s an all around good guy, tinged in bad-boy essence
8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I think that I’ll still be writing, still happily married, and getting ready to enjoy my monkey’s 16th birthday
9. Any causes you are passionate about ? You can include a website address if you like.
Breast Cancer Awareness~
In 2001, I lost my best friend, my mother to this horrible disease. I was, and still am devastated by that fact. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the frontrunner in the race to the cure, and my entire family supports their efforts implicitly.
Grab my Hand~
An anti-bullying cause started by an amazing group on Facebook banding Authors, Bloggers, and Readers together to put an end to bullying. Grab my hand, you are not alone… I’m here!
10. If you could go back in time and meet one person who would it be and why?
I think Edgar Allan Poe. He was a literary genius, and a bit mad. I think lunch with him would be interesting to say the least!
11. Have you received any bad reviews and if so how did you deal with it?
I have, but we all do. If there’s something that I can learn from it, I will. If it’s just one of those reviews where you can’t do anything right kind of things… I just don’t respond, and ignore it.
12. If you always spoke with your heart what one thing would you say to us?
Treat others as you want someone to treat your mother. The world would be a better place!
13. First kiss….passionate or awkward?
Terribly awkward. I was a massive tom-boy, and still am to a certain extent. I had no clue what was going on with that swapping spit mess back then
14. What animals do you have?
A blue front Amazon Parrot, named Poppy. A beagle named Copper-Dude, and a bishon puppy named Cullen Edward
15. The last thing you ever want to hear.
I love you.
16. Are you clumsy or graceful?
Heavens to Betsy! I’m about as graceful as a baby giraffe! LOL
17. Favorite holiday…Halloween or Christmas?
Halloween
18. Favorite word.
Super
19. Dream date, who would it be and why?
I have one every Friday! It’s with my hubby, because he is perfect to, and for me!
20. Why do you think that the paranormal genre is so popular?
Being an avid reader myself, I know that for me it’s an escape from reality.
21. Who would win in a stand-off? Vampire/Werewolf/Zombie? And why?
Zombies. They would eat everyone’s brains. Werewolves are only good after they have shifted, and vampires are super smart, so they must have big brains. Yep, I’m going with Zombies! LOL
22. Hottest character in a book.
I am going to have to go with Dimitri from the Vampire Academy! Love me a tall Russian;)
23. Best books you have read.
Oh, my word! There are far too many to list. How about I give you my top 3 favorite YA Paranormal?
*Twilight
*The Vampire Academy
*The Secret Circle
24. Who does your cover art? Do you design it yourself?
Covers by Magical Design, On Fyre Custom, and Most Cool Media- all three have different styles, and I love them all!
25. Any libraries you would like to mention?
Guthrie Memorial Library – They have welcomed me with open arms, and are very supportive of authors.

Author Biography
Okay, so I’m supposed to tell you about me…
Seriously, if I wrote a book about myself it would take you 10 minutes to read and you would be bored stiff after the first 2! LOL
I’m a full-time writer, wife, and mother. Which basically means there’s always a surplus of pencils lost somewhere in my hair, I usually have some place to be(I’m always late), I have a bad habit of calling family and friends random character’s names (from my books), I talk to myself because no one else listens to me, and I can throw together a mean dinner for 8 with only 10 minutes notice and four ingredients in the pantry, LOL.
If you can’t find me on the sidelines of my sons’ football games, online, cooking, cleaning, shopping, at the local coffee joint or on the phone wandering aimlessly throughout my house then I’ve probably hidden myself in my “bat-cave” to write.
I have a positive attitude, and absolute fun-loving approach to life. That makes it easy for the voices in my head to take over on a regular basis providing endless hours of entertainment for my pleasure, and hopefully yours.
Random facts about me:
~My favorite color is pink
~I have a Bishon Frise puppy named Cullen Edward
~My favorite music is hip-hop
~I have a severe addiction to coffee. So much so, that those in my inner circle refuse to speak to me before caffeine O’clock! True Story
Enjoy the ride.

Because of You
Sorry about the lack of posting lately, but anyone who knows me knows I suck at updating my blog. Anyhow, it’s been a taxing month so far. I am not nearly anywhere close to my goal for Arcadia Falls and my other projects. I thought that once the kids were in school that things would be better. I was sadly mistaken…
I am going through a rough time at home with my kids and some other stuff. I don’t normally talk about my home life online so that is all I’m gonna give you. Mainly, it’s been tough and not much writing has been done.
The reason I write this post though, is for another reason. The other day, I was thinking about my writing and my career as an author. I know many of you have read my interviews and guest blogs and you know that it has always been my dream to be an author, even as a young girl.
Well guess what?
It has happened. I’m an author and I write for a living.
Guess what else?
It’s all because of you.
Yes, because of you, the readers, I am doing what I love for a living. It’s because of all of you that this year has been so different from other years. I have five kids who will have a better Christmas this year. I have been able to give them things I haven’t been able to before, like doing sports and things like that.
So, this post is to say thank you, because every download has brought me to this point. Every time you click that share button for an authors book you help them to achieve their dreams.
I am very grateful to each and every one of you friends and fans who read my books. Thank you for reading my work and spreading the word. You all have literally changed my life. So keep sharing, tweeting and reviewing for all authors out there and keep changing lives.

She is the last of a race of creatures known as “The Phoenix”, a race of supernatural beings with the ability to wield and control fire.
And she will need that power now…
Revenants- walking, living, skeletal creatures who have waged a war against an unseen, parallel world known simply as The Realm- need Maggie’s blood to bring them to a full power…a power that will give them an unbeatable edge and offer the deciding weapon in this war.
Maggie is not alone as she learns not only
what she really is, but what it is her destiny to become…
My Review:
I was given phoenix rising from the author in return for an honest review, for a tour post through Tempting Book Tours. Now, let me tell you, I was excited to read it because it seemed like it would be different than a lot that I have been reading lately and I was not disappointed.
I loved this book, literally, I stayed up and read till I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore so that I could finish it. Maggie is an excellent character, she is believable and grows into a very strong person through the course of the book. I was so happy when I discovered the layers of the story beginning to unfold and the whole thing coming together. Also, the love story in this book is one where I just can’t decide what team I’m on. I love Michel and how much he loves Maggie, but… there is just that part of me who always loves a bad boy, in this case, Luc.
If you like fantasy, then Phoenix Rising is right up your alley. It has all the stuff we love, vampires, fey, witches and more. I will admit, this is the first book I’ve read having to do with a phoenix and I just adored it. Lisa C. Morgan did a wonderful job creating this world for us. I am excited for the next one to come out so I can see what happens.
About the Author:
Lisa C. Morgan lives in rural Upstate NY with her husband, three children, a degu, a precocious Siberian Husky, and a half Pom/Half Chi spoiled baby named Salacious B. Dustbunny.
A lover of books and words, it has always been her desire to tell stories that the people near her could listen and read, escaping the world around them by way of the page.
Always having a new story idea popping into her head, (sometimes at the least appropriate of times,) Lisa can always be found with a notebook and writing utensil somewhere within reach, just as her 8th grade teacher made her promise to do.Lisa has two short stories previously published in anthologies. A Romantic short titled Nothing’s Terminal (A Home for the Holidays; December, 2011) and a zombie themed short titled Antidote (The Thorn of Death; March 2012). Her debut novel- Phoenix Rising is the first in a new YA series Maggie Henning & The Realm and will be released July 2012. Upcoming will be the continuation in the series- Phoenix Burning, Phoenix Shadow, and Phoenix Ashes.
When she isn’t writing or taxing kids, Lisa enjoys reading, football, softball, cooking, singing & dancing, tattoos, and spending time with family and friends.
