I have wanted to work on this story for years, but every time I started it felt like such an overwhelming and lonely activity. This is just a wonderful reminder of why I write online and what a supportive community it is. About Betanon
Betanon is designed to let people ask for and receive anonymous critique. The focus is on being constructive and low-pressure.
How it worksSubmitting a story:
You can either submit a link to a Google Doc you have set up, with anonymous commenting enabled, or the text of a submission. If you submit the text, you can ask that I not attach your username, and it’ll be hosted on my Docs and you can stay as anonymous as you want. When you’ve received as much critique as you want, send me an ask and it’ll be untagged and/or taken down.
Commenting on a story:
To comment on a story in Google Docs, there are keyboard shortcuts that vary by OS (ctrl+alt+m in Windows, apple button+alt+m in Mac OS), but you can also go to the menu at the upper left that says ‘Insert’ and then click ‘Comment’ in the ensuing drop-down. Try to be constructive. Abusive comments will be deleted: this aims to be a place for people to get feedback without having to do that awkward ‘engaging with other people instead of just stories’ thing.
Please do not edit the text of the story even if that is enabled: it may take slightly longer to point out a typo in a comment than just to fix it, but it’ll be way more legible to the other people reading the story.
