Handbag and Book: guest author Kim McMahill-A Piece of Tropical Paradise and her #newbook A Measure of Madness

The handbag I’d like to share is actually a suitcase, but it is unique so I thought it would be fun for an online show-and-tell. Anyway, my husband and I lived for a time in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific.

When we returned home my mother-in-law gave us this little suitcase. When she saw it in a store, she thought of us living so far away in a tropical island paradise.

I’ve never actually used it as a suitcase because it is hand-painted and I don’t want to damage it. Instead, I display it with my other travel mementos and store items in it from our time in the islands like maps, photos, and my lavalava, which is basically a rectangular cloth worn similarly to a wraparound skirt and is typical traditional clothing worn by Polynesians and other Oceanic peoples. Every time I look at the brightly-painted suitcase, I think fondly of our time abroad and yearn for a new far-flung adventure.

In between experiencing exciting adventures, I like to write about them. My current project is my Risky Research Series. The latest in the series, A Measure of Madness, released April 9, 2021. Here’s a bit more about the novel.

FBI agent Devyn Nash's pursuit of a deadly organization heats up in this fourth installment of the Risky Research series.  The FBI locates the mastermind behind Coterie, but attempts to bring him in result in a shootout that sends Coterie’s members scrambling for cover. When Devyn’s partner is left fighting for his life in a Puerto Rican hospital, she becomes more determined than ever to bring them to justice.  Devyn’s decision to ignore her orders and pursue the head of Coterie to Brazil puts her job and her relationship with Sheriff Gage Harris in jeopardy, but she is unwilling to allow those responsible for so much death to live out their lives in paradise.

More about Kim McMahill: Kim McMahill grew up in Wyoming which is where she developed her sense of adventure and love of the outdoors. She started out writing non-fiction,

but her passion for exotic world travel, outrageous adventures, stories of survival, and happily-ever-after endings soon drew her into a world of romantic suspense and adventure fiction. Along with writing novels Kim has also published over eighty travel and geographic articles, and contributed to a travel anthology. She has had the opportunity to live in Hawaii, New Mexico, South Dakota, Iowa, Colorado, and the Solomon Islands, but has finally returned home to Wyoming. When not writing she enjoys gardening, traveling, hiking, playing games, puzzles, and spending time with family.

Answer these questions:

Red, White or Blue? Blue, especially the light warm blue of a summer sky.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter?  Summer since I love to be warm, love to garden and get outdoors.

Cake or Pie?  Pie, everything from peanut butter pie to my mother-in-law’s homemade apple pie.

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Coffee in the morning and afternoon tea when I have a spare moment.

Country music or Michael Buble? Country music

Pencil or Pen? Pencil since they are more forgiving when I make a mistake—erase, begin again.

Handbag and Book welcomes author Ronni Griffith-A Tiresome Handbag Meant Changing and her book Stetson's Lady

When I carry a handbag it’s a white and brown Michael Kor’s purse which I purchased from Poshmark. I bought it because I was tired of having to take everything out of my very small purse to find what I needed that had fallen to the bottom.

The shoulder straps fit perfectly on my shoulder. Other than not being able to find anything in the tiny purse that I used to carry, the reason I chose the one I have is because of the two side pockets on the outside of the purse. I figured it’d be a lot easier to get my keys and cell phone out if I put them in the side. I’m not too sure about the size.

My daughter and daughter-in-law told me which one to buy and I bought it. Now, to be really honest, I don’t carry it very much. All my important stuff (DL, Insurance, and debit card) can be found in my, rose gold, cell phone case. Which is always carried in my right hip pocket and my super nice Michael Kor’s purse can be found under the front set of my truck.

He’s a man who has it all—but the lady he truly loves.

Mesa Stone left Maple Ridge to get away from her best friend’s overbearing, headstrong brother, Stetson McKane. She’s been head-over-heels in love with the sexy-as-sin cowboy since she was a little girl. Now she’s back – and drinking her sorrows away at the McKane’s annual BBQ – when she finds herself at the mercy of Stetson’s archrival.

Stetson knew Mesa was back in town, but what he didn’t expect was to find her in the arms of his nemesis. He’s been rescuing his little sister’s best friend, Mesa, since she was a tomboy in pigtails. To his amazement, the little girl who drove him crazy is all grown up and Stetson finds he doesn’t have the will power to resist her any longer.

Neither can deny the heat rising between them, but between his ex who won’t take no for an answer, and Blaine’s schemes of revenge, it seems Stetson and Mesa don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of making it work.

But it’s true what people say about things being bigger in Texas—whether it’s a stubborn male ego, a heart full of love…or the red-hot attraction between two people who belong together.

More about Ronni Griffith: Ronni Griffith is a lifelong Native of Texas, an oilfield man’s wife of 27 years, mother of 3 amazing kids, and “Honey” to 3 awesome grands and 1 due in May 2021. She started her writing journey when her husband and niece told her to write the character’s story that had taken up residence in her head. It’s been a learning experience, but one she will cherish forever. When Ronni isn’t writing, she can be found in her garden, hanging out with her feathered friends in their coop, or having wings at her favorite wing bar with her family and friends.

Answer these questions:

Red, White or Blue? Out of these three color choices, I’ll go with blue.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter?  No doubt about it, Summer. I love playing in the dirt, and growing my own vegetables.

Cake or Pie? Pie for sure. And to be more specific, chocolate pie is my most favorite

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Coffee, coffee, coffee! I only drink tea at dinner and I haven’t found a champagne that I like.

Country music or Michael Buble? Country. New and old. I love anything from The Oakridge Boys to Cam. But, I’m a super fan of Dierks Bentley. If he’s playing in Texas, you will know where to find me.

Pencil or Pen? I will only use pens with black ink. I also use a pink gel pen when I’m signing books.

Handbag and Book: guest author Pam Thibodeaux-Is Pam a pretty handbag kinda girl? and #newbook Tempered Truth

When Vicki invited me to be on her blog she said, “visitors want to see a pretty handbag.”

Well, I’m not a ‘pretty handbag’ kinda girl. If you read my last post, I explained the kind of handbags I carry (black, small enough to hide under the seat of my  vehicle).

One year my son gave me $100 for Christmas and told me to buy myself a nice, name brand purse or something. I laughingly replied, “I am not spending this much money on a purse that’ll end up on the floor of my truck kicked under the seat.”

Needless to say, he ended up buying me a new blouse, gloves and a nice black dress coat.

But, today, I’m going to share with you the prettiest bag I have. No, it’s not a purse either. It’s an insulated wine bag I received as a Christmas gift this past year (2020) A nice touch after the year I had – definitely a year that needed wine LOL! This fun, colorful carrier may be used for wine or drinks or perhaps a picknick lunch, but it’ll definitely get used.

Fate declared them neighbors. Scandal insisted they were brothers. The fact that they looked enough alike to be twins only added fuel to the rumors flying about their parentage.

For fifty-plus years Craig Harris and Scott Hensley have enjoyed a bond nothing can sever.

Not the insinuations that they share the same father.

Not the years of strife and grief and heartache.

Not even death.

Will the truth set them free or will it destroy the friendship that has lasted a lifetime?

More about Pamela S Thibodeaux: Award-winning author, Pamela S. Thibodeaux is the Co-Founder and a lifetime member of Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Multi-published in romantic fiction as well as creative non-fiction, her writing has been tagged as, “Inspirational with an Edge!” ™ and reviewed as “steamier and grittier than the typical Christian novel without decreasing the message.” Sign up to receive Pam’s newsletter and get a FREE short story!

Red, White or Blue? Blue but my favorite color is Peach.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? Oh, I’m definitely a Summer girl although the older I get, the more I appreciate Spring and Fall. Winter not so much – especially like the 1 week of severe Winter we had in Feb – temps in the teens, ice, snow… brrr.

Cake or Pie? YEP! I am a sweet eater for sure especially cakes and pies of all sorts and flavors.

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Coffee, unless the champagne is mixed with orange juice.

Country music or Michael Buble? I love all kinds of music except Rap and Heavy Metal but out of these two options, I have to say Country.

Pencil or Pen? Pen – pretty colored ink when possible.

Handbag and Book: Vicki Batman-Happy Proposal Day, er, Happy April Fool's Day?? #newbook #AprilFoolsDayproposal

April Fool's Day always gives me the tickles for that is the day Handsome proposed marriage. I think he thought about the day before; however, a friend invited himself to tag a long on our movie date. But it's okay. I just don't think he even knew what day he proposed on. Handsome is one smart guy. I think the whole idea of April Fool's Day wasn't on his radar at that time. You know, sorta like tunnel vision.

So, he did ask, and I said yes. However, I had to be sure. All day long, my head was occupied with how to ask him. I didn't want to look like an idiot, nor did I want to chase him off. I slid next to him on the couch,  gathered my courage, and said, "Um, I have a question."

Narrowing his brow, Handsome tilted his head. "Okay."

I studied the buttons on his shirt placket. My heart pounded like Keith Moon using the bass pedal. "You know the-the thing you asked me l-last night?" I peeked from under my lashes. He grinned.

"Did you mean it?"

He kept me in suspense for a good minute which felt like an hour. Answer. Answer. Answer, dammit. LOL.

The corners of his mouth barely tipped up. "Yes."

Whew! "Okay. Good, because, you know, yesterday was April Fool's Day, and I wanted to be sure."

He got a nice kiss for that.

What I'm pretty sure was most proposals didn't take place on April One. Those beaus were using their noggin', or for the ones who did, maybe they thought they could get out of it. All I know was I felt tortured until I knew for sure.

Happy April Fool's Day, er, Proposal Day, Handsome!

Handbag and Book blog with Vicki Batman: How About a Handbag in Every Color? And a #newbook @KateSpade #handbag #cozymystery #smalltown

A gift to me! I just had to buy myself a handbag when my third Hattie Cooks Mystery was pubbed and why not a Valentine gift to me. As most of you know, I have lots of bags in a variety of sizes and colors; so, my dilemma was what color? No black. Eh for navy. Plenty of red. Did I need another orange, yellow, or brown?

What about pink? I have one in poppy pink. Okay, I'll consider pink.

I come from the generation of shop clearance first. I went to eBay. I put in my favorite designer-Kate Spade-and found this:

Looks familiar? How about this:

Yup, not the first time I've bought handbags or shoes or clothing in several colors.

Great size. Three pockets inside. All my stuff fit. But like the turquoise one, the crossbody handle didn't detach. Not really a problem. I went to the shoe store and asked to have a toggle clasp sewn on the ends so I could detach the crossbody. No problem for them.

The cost of the bag plus the fix (and the cleaning was included) still kept the price point at very affordable. As for the neon pink? It IS neon pink. But I love it.

And what else is fun and affordable? My new romantic comedy mystery, Temporarily Out of Luck, available at:

Handbag and Book welcomes #author Margo Bond Collins - My First Grown-up Handbag and a #newbook! Claimed for the Alien Bride Lottery

For Christmas this year, I got my first “grown-up” handbag. It’s a Michael Kors, it’s pale pink (my favorite color!), and it has special pockets inside to carry all my electronics—even my Mac fits inside it! It’s easily the most objectively boring of all my (many) handbags, but it’s also my favorite, because I feel so very professional when I carry it. It’s definitely something I would miss if my name got drawn in the Alien Bride Lottery I got abducted away to participate in the Alien Bride Games!

Lucky for me, I rarely let it out of my sight, so I’d probably have it with me. (And that just gave me a fabulous idea for my next book…so I’m headed off to write!)

I thought I’d escaped being given to an alien warrior. I was wrong. I was one hour away from washing out of the Alien Bride Games. None of the Khanavai warriors had chosen me, and I was scheduled on the next shuttle off the filming station. But then a bright red alien passed me in a hallway—and the next thing I knew, we were all over each other. Bad enough that my name had been drawn in the Bride Lottery. Now, even though they’re supposedly over, I’m back in the Games. And not the usual ones, either—a whole new set of challenges, just for me. Guess it’ll make for good television back home. I just hope I can resist him long enough to get back to Earth, to the people I love. And that I can keep him from learning my most desperate secret. The odds aren’t looking good, though…

Fans of Ruby Dixon, Grace Goodwin, and Evangeline Anderson will adore this hot new series featuring gorgeous, bright alien heroes and the sassy human women they choose as mates! Every book in the Khanavai Warrior Bride Games series is a standalone romance. Join these brides as they find a whole new world of happily ever afters.

About Margo Bond Collins: USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times bestselling author Margo Bond Collins is a former college English professor who, tired of explaining the difference between "hanged" and "hung," turned to writing romance novels instead. She now writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and science fiction romance. Sometimes her heroines kiss aliens, sometimes they kill monsters. But they always aim for the heart. You can learn more about her books at www.MargoBondCollins.net

Answer these questions:

Red, White, or Blue? White for walls, red or blue for aliens! :)

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? Summer, always.

Cake or Pie? Yes, please!!

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Coffee for breakfast, tea in the afternoon, champagne for celebrating.

Country music or Michael Buble? Michael Buble most of the time…but country every once in a while. I am, after all, a Texas girl—I can’t quite shake my country roots.

Pencil or Pen? Mostly pen these days. But back when I was a college professor, I had to grade in pencil in case I got too snarky in my comments.

Handbag and Book welcomes author Kaye George: Do You Love a Comfy Purse? #mystery #Texasbook #cozymystery

I love my comfy gray purse. I’ve always liked gray and black because they go with everything. I don’t change purses often (or at all), so that’s a plus for me. I bought it off the internet because it looked like it had enough pockets. And it does! I like outside pockets.

The small zipper pouch is for my cough drops and inhaler (I had a killer cough long before covid started giving them out). The larger one is my wallet and other little purse with money, credits cards, insurance cards, and other things like that.

I love the pouches on each end. One for my sunglasses and the other holds my stun gun. I hope I never have to use the stun gun because I don’t keep it charged. (Sh! Don’t tell anyone that!) My pepper spray is attached to that blue plastic thing you can see and stays inside. (That spray canister is fully operational. I’ve only used it on dogs running toward me with their teeth bared, though.)

The outside pouch on the other side holds my car keys and things for errands I’ll run next time I go out. You can see a check and some papers poking up. I have to have a long shoulder strap and it has that, too.

I’ll be so sad when this one wears out! I hope it never does.

Spring has sprung in the charming tourist town of Fredericksburg, Texas, and one of the tastiest attractions is a trip to Tally’s Old Tyme Sweets—until a bizarre burglary leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Tally Holt is thrilled to see her new replicas of vintage sweets displayed in the window of Bella’s Baskets, a gift basket shop owned by her friend, Yolanda Bella. There’s just one problem—the creations appear to be melting. The ladies assume the culprit is the broiling heat of the Texas sun—until that night, the store window is smashed, and there’s only one thing missing: the replicas.

Tally is positively stumped. Clearly, the useless fake candies are more special than she bargained for—but why? When a rash of seemingly unrelated burglaries sweeps through the area, Tally is determined to sleuth out the answer—and stop a thief from killing more than the town’s appetite . . .

More about Kaye George: Kaye George is a national-bestselling, multiple award-winning  author of pre-history, traditional, and cozy mysteries (her latest is the Vintage Sweets series

from Lyrical Press). Her short stories have appeared online, in anthologies, magazines, her own collection, her own anthology, DAY OF THE DARK. She is a member of Sisters in Crime, Smoking Guns chapter (Knoxville), Guppies chapter, Authors Guild of TN, Knoxville Writers Group, and Austin Mystery Writers. She lives and works in Knoxville, TN.

Answer these questions:

Red, White or Blue? I’ve always loved blue. I like blue walls, blue furniture, blue clothes. Someone told me once that a blue top brought out the color of my eyes. I’d always considered them a muddy gray with blue overtones, so I remembered that, so I wear blue a lot.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? Anything but summer. I think fall is my favorite, but I usually love winter, too. This one is proving disastrous for so many people, though, that maybe I’ll pull back on that.

Cake or Pie? Cake! Unless it’s a pie that contains a lot of chocolate.

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Honestly, tea is the only one of those I can drink. Coffee makes my tummy hurt and champagne makes my head hurt. I’m just a delicate little flower, you know.

Country music or Michael Buble? Well, neither of those. Either full-on classical (Bach and Mozart-type classical) or hard rock from the 60s.

Pencil or Pen? Pencil for Sudoku and crosswords. Pen for signing books. Which I hope to be able to get out and do again someday!

Handbag and Book welcomes author Margot Johnson - Who loves dogs? and her book Love Leads the Way

This bag was a gift from my mom who knows I love dogs! It’s not fancy and has more of a tote bag feel, but it makes me smile every time I use it.

Inside there’s one small zip pocket, so most of my items just roll around inside. I don’t mind because it’s so much fun and holds books and other large-ish treasures. My favorite dog shown in the pattern is the gold one on the left and right sides of the top row because it reminds me most of my beloved, old golden retriever Sophie. (My characters love dogs, too.)

The bag is getting a little worn, but I won’t part with it unless it totally falls apart.

She coaches him in team leadership, but do they both need lessons in love?

Single mom Tessa Shore runs a successful leadership program at work and supports a mother with dementia. She can handle any challenge in her jam-packed schedule as long as nothing spins out of control…especially her feelings.

Engineer Mark Delaney is an expert on pipelines at the same company, but his interpersonal skills need a makeover. Advancing to an executive job requires enrollment in a leadership course he doesn't think he needs.

When their professional and personal issues entangle, life at the office gets a lot more complicated. Romance is impossible…or is it?

More about Margot Johnson:  Margot Johnson grew up in a family of writers and has

always loved books. She is the author of Love Takes Flight and Love Leads the Way. Before turning her focus to the fun writing life, Margot held leadership roles in human resources and communications. Her motto is "Dream big and work hard." When not writing, she loves to connect with family and friends, volunteer with SK Writers Guild, and walk at least 10,000 steps a day (except when it's minus 40!) She lives in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada with her handsome husband and beloved golden retriever.

Handbag and Book: welcome to author Sierra Brave - When is a Handbag Really a Handbag? #accessory #fairytale #writing

You can’t see the small handle or zipper on the back in the picture, but the stuffed rabbit is indeed a handbag. My nineteen-year-old daughter is part of the LBGTQ community so on Halloween before last, my friends and I took her to her first gay club and her first drag show. She dressed as an adorable jellyfish, and I went as my favorite fairytale character, Alice from Alice in Wonderland

This little purse isn’t great for everyday use because of the tiny amount of space. On the other hand, I had no trouble pushing my cash, ID, and debit card in there so it was perfect for the club and a great addition to my costume. If you’re dying for one of your own, you can order here: rabbit purse

What if Red Riding Hood invited peril, and the

big bad wolf was the only hero who could save her?

Promised power and position, Scarlett Capuche left her tiny village to join the prestigious Order of the Phoenix.
Monty Blackwolf never wanted a mate, especially not a human raised on a hidden farm for blood-ritual sacrifice. But his werewolf's heightened sense of smell drew him to Scarlett's sweet fragrance from miles away.
Duty-bound to protect her, he will break her of her religious devotion to the magical terrorist group responsible for the murders of his parents and older brother, even if he has to put her over his knee and turn her bottom as red as her hair.

She belongs to him now, and he will claim all of her despite his affliction with a unique, third shifter-form he doesn't fully understand and isn't able to control.
Will Monty save Scarlett, or will he prove more dangerous to her than anyone else?
Author's Note: If you're offended by steamy fairytale retellings with graphic language, explicit put-you-in-the-moment love scenes, elements of power exchange, and domestic discipline, you might want to look for a different book.

More about Sierra BraveSierra is a loving wife and mother of three, a loyal friend, and a

advocate for her children. Aside from a few years spent in San Antonio, she’s lived the majority of her life in the southern part of the east coast of the United States. She’s experienced great joy and devastating tragedy in her life and taken inspiration from both. She loves Crown Royal, fat cats, small dogs (especially Affenpinschers and Brussels griffons), and the beach.

Answer these questions:

Red, White or Blue? Blue

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter? Summer

Cake or Pie? Depends – does the cake have buttercream? If so, I’m going to have to have some of that cake. No, buttercream – then it will depend on what type of pie.

Coffee, Tea, or Champagne? Once upon a time, I was addicted to sweet tea but switched to unsweet. Now I mostly drink water but have a cup of coffee or two in the morning.

Country music or Michael Buble? Michael

Pencil or Pen? I can never seem to find either when I need one.

Handbag and Books welcomes author Mary Marvella-Why isn't carrying a wallet and cell phone enough? #amreading #accessories #timetravel

This simple, red leather handbag with zippered pockets on both sides is perfect for carrying into the grocery store since it doesn’t take up space in the small carts. (I prefer smaller carts that have a holder for my drink container.)

I don’t know why carrying my wallet and cell phone isn’t enough. I ordered this lovely purse with Christmas money in late 2019. I used it a few times in 2020 since I have other purses that hold more stuff, (including my security blanket). Who knew I’d need it in 2020. It came in handy when I broke my shoulder. For the first time, I was willing to use a long strap. I don’t usually bother.

Sometimes one lifetime isn’t enough.

Haunting Refrain incorporates ghosts and two love stories, one in present time and one from 160 years ago.

When Sarah learns that she has ghosts in her attic and lived once before as the wife of William, her next door neighbor and best friend, she knows he’ll think she’s crazy.

William doesn’t believe in Santa or the tooth fairy, and he really doesn’t believe in romantic love that lasts or ghosts. What will make him believe in a love that lasts two lifetimes
