Meet Brady Scott from my 10/20 release #OneNightWithaHero!

I'm so so excited for the release in just two days of my contemporary romance ONE NIGHT WITH A HERO, the sequel to HER FORBIDDEN HERO, which hit the Top 100 bestseller lists on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Here's an excerpt from Her Forbidden Hero where you get to meet Marco's best friend, Alyssa's brother, and One Night's hero, Brady Scott. Brady has just learned that his best friend is in love with his little sister...:

“I have to ask you straight up, man, and I know you’re not going to like it.”
Marco braced for one of a dozen possible questions and motioned for him to continue.
“Are you too fucked up with everything that happened to do right by my baby sister?”
For a long moment, Marco gave the question the consideration it deserved. “I’m not a hundred percent, but I’m doing better. And she makes me want to be better. This past year, half my problem has been floundering around without a purpose. With Alyssa, I’ve found a purpose again. Making her happy would be enough. It would be everything. So, no, I’m not too fucked up.”
Brady drilled him with a serious stare for a long moment, then smirked. “Just a little.”
Marco chuffed out half a laugh. “Just a little.”
“You know it wasn’t your fault, right? You’ve wrapped your head around that much, at least?”
“That would be in the part that isn’t right yet.”
“Marco—”
“You telling me it’s so isn’t going to convince me. I appreciate it, don’t get me wrong. But I have to find a way there on my own.”
Brady heaved a breath. “Aw, shit.” He paused a long moment. “My sister? Really?”
Marco saw the teasing in Brady’s eyes and gave in to a small smile. He shrugged.
“You realize if you ever hurt her, I’ll have to kill you.”
Rising to his feet, Marco nodded. “I’d expect nothing less. But there isn’t another man on this planet who knows as well as I do how much your sister deserves happiness.”
Brady stood and held out his hand. “True.” They shook, and Brady playfully smacked Marco’s bruised cheek.
“Gonna have a shiner. Sorry ’bout that.”
Marco prodded his sore cheekbone. “Shit hurts, too, motherfucker.”
I hope you'll love Brady as much as I do! He's hot, funny, intense, and a total smartass! Can't wait to share more of him with you!
Thanks for reading!Laura

Welcome Guest Author S.L. Scott! #NaturallyCharlie

Welcome Guest AuthorS.L. Scottto the Blog!
Welcome!  Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thank you for hosting me. My name is S. L. Scott and I love writing in the contemporary romance and chick-lit genres. I dabble in some YA too, but am not actively working on that.
I’m a mother to two amazing kids and wife to an incredible husband. I’m a writer, a baker, and love to read. My dreams include publishing a book (check - yay), living on the beach one day, and writing a movie script that is actually made into a movie.
Great! And congrats on your new release! Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
I’m quoting the summary for Naturally, Charlie, but it’s so true. This is a tale of two Charlies learning to trust again while fighting their fates to create their own destiny.
Both main characters are Charlies and they are coming together at a unique time in each other’s life. They are trying to navigate through the current obstacles in their lives while remaining true to themselves.
Which character is your favorite and why?
Girl Charlie is my favorite though I know most would choose Charlie boy. I like her because she’s flawed and she realizes it. She’s living a very surface existence at this time in her life – not shallow but on the surface of who she truly is. Her life is off kilter and she’s struggling to find balance like she once had and thought she always would. She’s taking a journey in this book and it’s not always leading her down the expected path, but it does lead her to her destiny.
As the author, what surprised you about this story?
How the two Charlies bonded from the beginning. The relationship wasn’t forced and scenes weren’t written to make it convenient for them to hang out together or run into each other. Writing their scenes together just flowed and came naturally. The dialogue is all them and just works for them and how they communicate together. It’s not a secret language, but it felt like that to me, like something special that only they share. They just got each other, understanding what no else did about them.
Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
There is a possibility a sequel or series opportunity for two different storylines I’ve thought about, but no plans as of today.
What was the hardest thing for you about writing this story?
At the time I was writing Naturally, Charlie my kids weren’t both school age so I had limited daylight hours to write. Most of this story was written around the midnight hour.
Time is always such a challenge! What are you working on right now?
I just published a novelette called Morning Glory on Amazon for Kindle readers.
As for my writing, all I can say is I am working on my next novel. I’m gonna keep this one under wraps for awhile.
What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
Oddly enough, I just thought about it the other day. I still have it saved on my computer. I thought I lost it with the hard drive crash of 2010, but I had once emailed it and fortunately found it again. I was so relieved. It’s a story that I still may revisit one day, so I’m glad to still have it.
What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
I find heavy emotion easier to write than happy times. Sometimes I feel that the smooth sailing times are masked and the true happy times have to be earned through the journey whether it be through self discovery or overcoming obstacles or pain the characters have to survive. The feeling of heartache is solid and strong so easier to describe to me. Happy can be found in simple things, but that feeling itself isn’t always simple to describe.
Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
I think there is always a bit of yourself in the story somewhere whether it be an event or dialogue or a characteristic. I can think of one of the Charlie-isms in the book that is all me, and still makes me giggle. It’s embarrassing so I think I’ll keep that under wraps for now.
Is there a theme or message that runs through your work?
I’m a romantic, but I like realism mixed in as well. Maybe it’s because reading about perfect doesn’t hold my attention, so I try to give my characters real emotions and sometimes those emotions don’t always make sense in that moment – they come from something heated inside of them. In the real world we don’t have a team of script writers feeding us the perfect line and sometimes our emotions rule our thoughts and mouths. Sometimes we make mistakes and I like that in my characters. I also like when they learn from those mistakes.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
I can write in the middle of chaos. Well… most of the time. LOL I also have a beautiful desk in our home office and yet I write while lounging on the couch in the center of the house. I’ve not written one word while at that beautiful desk to this day.
And, I’ve been an extra in four movies where I’m easily seen – it’s very obvious and even more embarrassing although I loved working on the sets. I love the movie industry. It’s a fascinating world.
How cool! Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?
Bridget Jones’ Diary. I love the concept of the diary entries, her personal struggles with herself, and that series started my love of all things chick lit and romance.
Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?
This changes with my moods, but right now I’d have to say Veronica from Naturally, Charliebecause she’s at a point in her life where she is who she is and she likes who she is. She says what she thinks and she’s a positive person that draws the other characters to her light. She’s also a hopeless romantic and I love that.
Okay, now, just for fun:

Milk chocolate or dark chocolate? Dark. I’m eating a dark chocolate kiss right now.
Salty or sweet? Hmmm…. sweet.
Bed or kitchen table? LOL. Bed.
Beach or mountains? Beach 100% of the time.
Give or receive? Give.
Twenty-five year old Charlotte “Charlie” Barrow is caught between her old life and the new one she is beginning to build when she crosses paths with a handsome stranger on the subway.

New York freelance writer, Charlie Adams, is forging his own path beyond the expectations of the society of circles of his childhood.

This is the tale of two Charlies learning to trust again while fighting their fates to create their own destiny.
Excerpt:
Fifteen minutes later, we sit down, placing our sodas and order ticket on the table. He bought lunch, claiming it was because he showed up uninvited. I’m thinking he doesn’t see how happy I am to see him again. “So what brings you to this part of town, Charlie?”
He plays with the straw’s wrapper before wadding it between his fingers. When he looks up, he says, “You do.” He shrugs. “I missed you.”
He always makes me smile, but I laugh lightly, too, because I like that he missed me. “You missed me?”
Leaning forward after looking around us, he whispers, “Yeah, I missed you. Is that so strange?”
No. Not strange at all. I’d been thinking about him since we parted after dinner yesterday.
“What?” he asks. “Are you laughing at me because I can admit I missed you?”
“I think it’s great you can admit you missed someone, and I wasn’t laughing.” I giggle.
“That. That right there is laughing.”
“No, that’s giggling.”
“Aren’t we too old to giggle?”
“Speak for yourself, old man,” I tease.
He laughs now, but turns away when our number is called. Tapping the table once with his palm, he says, “I’ll be right back.”
I watch him as he walks toward the back of the small restaurant to claim our order, enjoying the view. Damn it!I look out the window when I’m busted staring at his ass. When I look back, he’s gloating—I mean smiling—all the way back.
I try to tamp the heat I feel that wants to redden my cheeks, giving my guilt away, but I think it’s too late.
“Here.” He sets the food down in front of me. “Eat and maybe that will distract us enough to not talk about the fact that I just caught you ogling my ass.”
“I wasn’t ogling.” I feign annoyance at the accusation, although I totally was ogling.
“You were sooo ogling.”
“I hate you, Charlie.” I laugh, joking with him.
“Yeah, I hate you, too.” He teases with a smug smile set in place.
I seriously love our friendship.

Thanks for coming on the blog!

#SixSunday ~ Marco knows what he wants... #HerForbiddenHero

Happy Sunday everyone! I'm excited to share six sentences from my contemporary romance, Her Forbidden Hero. In just six days, its sequel, One Night with a Hero, releases--and I can't wait to share the new book with you. So, while we wait, enjoy Marco making a realization...
It was time he stood up and fought—for her, for himself.

Marco grabbed his guitar from where it was resting against the nightstand. His arm ached from attempting to play so much lately. But playing reminded him of her encouragement, her belief in him, of her.

As he strummed out an old tune, a plan began to take shape, and he knew exactly what he wanted to do. And after months of living in the murk of darkness, the clarity was a revelation.

#SixSunday - Admiring her hero... #HerForbiddenHero

Happy Sunday everyone! I've got six from HER FORBIDDEN HERO this week in preparation for the release of the sequel, ONE NIGHT WITH A HERO in just two weeks (10/20/12)! Here's Alyssa giving hero Marco Vieri a once-over over morning coffee...
Lean and ridged, his abdomen made her want to see if it felt as hard as it looked. A line of dark hair extended from his belly button down into jeans sitting so low there was no way he wore underwear. He might’ve been an athlete featured in the pages of Sports Illustrated or a designer underwear model, if it weren’t for two things: a raised pink scar that ran in a straight line under his left pec and a puckered scar on the front side of his right shoulder that matched the one on his back.

Realization added adrenaline to the lust his body inspired. He’d been shot. She didn’t know whether to be angry with him and Brady for never mentioning that little fact or give in to her rising panic at the thought that he’d so often been in harm’s way.

Crazy Awesome New 4-Book Sale!

GUYS! Beyond thrilled and excited to share with you that I made a new sale! With the help of my incredible agent, Jenn Schober at Spencerhill, I sold a four-book contemporary romance series to Avon/Harper Collins in an incredible deal in which multiple publishers made offers and Avon pre-empted to win the series. And, OMG, Avon is going to be so incredible to work with. I can't share all the details yet but I've been beside myself over how wonderful crazy this all is and how hard it is to believe!

The series, tentatively titled HARD INK, is about four ex-soldiers who run a renegade operation against an organized crime ring out of the back of a tattoo shop. It's going to be sexy and gritty and hot hot hot! I'm already in love with my heroes--you guys know how I love military heroes and tattoos, and now I get to play with them both! Woot!

The first book is tentatively scheduled for January 2014 (ish!) LOL

Oh, and on top of all the goodness, I got my first Publishers' Weekly mention! SQUEE!

Thanks so much for reading!

Woot! #JustGottaSay is .99 for its Birthday! #Erotic #Menage

Blow your horns and toss your confetti, because my contemporary erotic romance Just Gotta Say turned one today! I can barely even believe it!

In celebration, the awesome folks at Decadent Publishing agreed to lower the price to 99 cents! I'm not sure how long the sale will last, so don't miss out on the chance to read this hot little novella at this great price!

Amazon | Decadent Publishing | Smashwords[As of midnight, the price change is in effect at DP & Smashwords...Amazon to follow!]
What people have had to say about Just Gotta Say:

Just Erotic Romance Reviews, 5/5 Stars!: "Just Gotta Say is one of the hottest books I've read in a long time! Ms. Kaye has packed one hell of an erotic punch in this searing 55 page story! From page one, Just Gotta Say is a playfully naughty yet sweetly sensual....The story is brilliantly written....Just Gotta Say may be short on pages, but it's long on indulgence…an intoxicating read you won't want to miss!"

Mrs. Aubergine, Books, Baking & Other Objects of Beauty, 5/5 Cupcakes!: "My review: *stares slack-jawed into the distance, blinking rapidly* OMG, Laura! That was erotica with a capital E! I don’t think I can review this without venturing into NSFW territory, but suffice to say one word: Foursome. ‘Nuff said. *blink* Awesome foursome. *blink*"

Stacey, Sizzling Hot Book Reviews, 4/5 Hearts!: "Just Gotta Say is a fast paced and very sexy story. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. Laura Kaye injects enough to humor to make us laugh while still heating up the pages quickly and eloquently....I would recommend picking up Just Gotta Say if you love a sizzling hot story about finding yourself and where you belong."

Dianthus, Whipped Cream Reviews, 4/5 Cherries!: "If you like the idea of finding love in all the wrong places, with three gorgeous men who would do anything for you, and unbelievably hot sex with all three of them, than this is the book for you....Even though this story is short, it definitely packs a punch. This is definitely an author I am going to be on the lookout for when I make my next shopping trip for books. Laura Kaye made the reading fun and steamy while still being realistic. Amazing read!"
Bobby, Book Wenches, 4/5 Stars!: "Ms. Kaye doesn't neglect the relationships between the characters but builds believable friendship and love among them....The moments of humor in Just Gotta Say had me laughing out loud, and the suspense towards the beginning of the story had me squirming in anxious anticipation....Overall this is a fun and most definitely hot little read."

Stella, Book Lovers, Inc., 4/5 Bookies!: "Just Gotta Say is not simply an erotic ménage story, it is so much more than that: here the sex is based on friendship and trust and there is a strong romantic storyline as well. I very much enjoyed how after all the hotness and sensual scenes Laura Kaye ended the story with such a sweet ending. Left me smiling and feeling good.  Verdict:  The humour, the sizzling chemistry and the layered and exceptionally well developed characterisations make Just Gotta Say a wonderful erotica novella, one you shouldn't miss!"

Blue Shedevil, Rage, Sex & Teddy Bears: "Laura Kaye, go on with your bad self! This is down right scrumptious. Nice and raunchy, with just the perfect amount of kink thrown in, and then add just a smidgen of romance to sweeten the deal and you have delightful perfection....You will absolutely fly through this short little tale of fantasies fulfilled, and if you're like me, you'll take a more leisurely journey the second time around. I guarantee there will be a second time around."

Wendy, You Gotta Read Reviews, You Need To Read!: "This is a perfect little ménage a quatre story....A sexy, raunchy quickie with just a splash of romance to help lighten the mood. It seems that Laura Kaye can write in just about any genre she chooses, and do it exceedingly well. I was very familiar with Laura’s less steamy works, and was pleasantly surprised by this book. It takes almost no time to read and it seems to just smolder off the page. Looking for something to brighten up those long and chilly Autumn nights. This will certainly do the trick."

Night Owl Reviews, 4/5 Stars!: "This was a very erotic but very heartwarming story....It's not until this opportunity presents itself that Callie and Lucas finally give into their feelings. And when they do, it's completely electric and consuming. Add in the mix their two best friends (with a fledgling relationship of their own) and it explodes. This is a wonderful story that, after fanning yourself, has you smiling at the end."

Thanks for reading, and for celebrating with me! If you give it a try, I hope you enjoy!

Welcome Guest Author Natalie Anderson! #IndulgenceBooks

Welcome Guest AuthorNatalie Andersonto the Blog!
See below for her giveaway!
Welcome, Natalie!  Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Hi Laura – thanks so much for having me here on your blog! I’m Natalie Anderson and I write contemporary romance with Entangled and Harlequin Mills & Boon – and I love my job J
Aw, I love that! Okay, so, tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
I’m so thrilled that my anthology, FLIRTING TO WIN is now available! This is a three-in-one collection – with Bargain in Bronze, Seduction in Silver and Gamble in Gold – three stories set in London this past summer, with athletes in the family, flash mobs on the Tube and a miniature, mischievous dog… not to mention a whole lot of flirting!
What fun titles! Which character is your favorite and why?
Nope, I just can’t do it. I have not one, not two, but THREE gorgeous heroes in this anthology and I simply cannot pick a winner… I’m just going to take all three… the protective, but surprisingly playful big brother; the wounded warrior who can give so much but refuses to receive anything for himself; and the supposed playboy who has a heart of gold…
LOL! Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
There are none planned at this stage—you can just get all THREE stories in the one volume now—go one, what are you waiting for?! ;)
A threefer! That’s so cool! What was the hardest thing for you about writing these stories?
The hardest thing for the anthology was logistical this time—in terms for finding the sheer time to work. I somehow wrote four books a year when I had four preschoolers, so I’m used to fitting writing in all around the wee small hours, but this time I had some illness in the family and it made things tricky! But that’s just the way life works sometimes, once I got the hours to lock myself away, it was so good to get on and get right into the stories J
Time really can be the biggest challenge, can’t it? What are you working on right now?
I’m working on a duo—it’s got quite a special quirk to it (that I’m not going to give away!) that makes it a fun challenge to write. After that I’m diving straight into a full-length contemporary that I can’t wait to get stuck into!
Good luck with it all! What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
In terms of seriously attempting a full-length romance? I wrote it Nanowrimo style one June after I’d found the book, No Plot, No Problem in my local library. Halfway through the draft, just as the book predicted, I came up with a much better idea… but I forced myself to finish it. Then I went on and immediately wrote that other idea. I went on to write yet another and that’s the one I submitted to a publisher and I was fortunate enough to have it accepted… from then on it’s been busy!
But that very first draft of a first book is still on an old computer somewhere… I can’t drag it out though as I password protected it and now all these years later I have NO idea what that password was!!!
Oh no! LOL What a great story! What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
In terms of ease, it’s those magic moments when I’m eyeballs deep in the scene and in my characters’ heads and it’s just flowing and I’m grinning away at my computer screen like a loon and my fingers won’t work fast enough to get it down… that’s the BEST feeling.
The hardest is when the words come at a rate of one an hour… when I’ve written myself into a corner and I can’t see the way out of it! That’s when it’s time to take a shower or go for a walk… or eat! ;)
I so identify with that! Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
Not so much actual events and people, but I do use some things I’ve experienced (or seen others experience). Gamble in Gold, for example, features a running hero. My own hero-hubby has run a couple of marathons (including the New York Marathon) – so I know the dedication and drive that goes into that and the kind of mental strength those athletes really do have. I put a twist onto it though by having Luke be a guide runner for a Paralympic athlete. And yes, this anthology is set against this past sporting summer in London backdrop—but its all fiction from then on!
Awesome! Is there a theme or message that runs through your work?
I think I often have heroines who are searching for more than a ‘mate’ – often they’re at a crossroads in their career choice and it’s about finding the courage to go for what they really want. I am a bit of a believer in the ‘whole being greater than the sum of its parts’ thing, so I love to have my heroes and heroines end up in relationships where they’re equally supportive and both go on to do things they never dreamed they could before.
Yes, I love that, too! Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?
As a teen I alternately read romance and crime, so I guess I’d love to write crime at some point in my career. But I really don’t know enough about guns and bodies and all that… so I’m thinking it’ll have to be a ‘cozy mystery’ type. I adore a series of books written by the Little sisters in the 1940s and 50s – the books all have ‘black’ in the title – they’re frothy plots but very clever and amusing and I love how the heroines never have any intention of doing housework. Ever.
You can find some of them on Amazonif you’re interested!
Of all the characters you’ve ever written, who is your favorite and why?
Oh my – this is like choosing between children for a favourite! And it is so impossible. If I think about them all I love them for different reasons. And honestly, the characters of mine I personally find most intriguing are the ones not on paper yet—the glimpses of that mysterious guy lurking at the edge of my sub-conscious and the fiery heroine who’d going to make his life hell for a while… creating/meeting/discovering new characters is definitely one of my favourite parts of the process!
Oh, me too! Okay, now, just for fun: Milk chocolate or dark chocolate? Definitely dark. With peppermint please!
Salty or sweet? Both – and yes, at the same time. Chocolate-dipped pretzels, that kind of thing. Why limit yourself?! ;)
Bed or kitchen table? LOL. Kitchen table
Beach or mountains? Hmmmm – can I have a mountain by the beach? I come from a temperate climate where we have four pretty delineated seasons, and I love them all. So beach in summer, mountain in winter—that way you get the best of all!
Give or receive? Definitely give—I love planning and trying to come up with something really special. I’m a big fan of ‘active’ gifts—things to do rather than things to have J

Investment banker extraordinaire Jack Barnes's attraction to Libby is instantaneous, but he's raised his two siblings after their parents died in an accident, and it's been all work and no play for as long as he can remember. He can't let down his guard now--not when his brother is so close to the gold. But keeping Libby busy and out of his brother's life challenges every ounce of his self-control.
Until now...
Neither wants a relationship, and though they can't deny their incredible chemistry, Libby and Jack agree that what they have is temporary. So when things start to sizzle between them, will they be able to take the heat?
