Three Cheers for @Vistaprint!
Sometimes someone – or lots of someones – do something awesome for you, and you just have to tell the world. Here’s what happened:
On May 9, I shipped 3 boxes of swag, books, and other items from an Annapolis, MD Mailboxes Etc. store to a hotel I’d be staying at for the RT Booklovers C

On May 14, two of the three boxes arrived, but the tracking number of the third showed it had never left Maryland. Multiple calls and emails to the Mailboxes store and to UPS’s Help proved pretty fruitless in figuring out what had happened and how to fix it. The box that was lost contained 95% of my promotional materials for my two newest books.
For the last several weeks, I’ve been trying to have my box found and/or be compensated. I was finally informed by the Mailboxes manager that it was not findable and that I would only be compensated the minimum $100 in insurance because the wrong insurance amount had been attributed to the lost box. It contained easily $500 or more in content.
Yesterday, I was mad about being out hundreds of dollars and vented on FB. Privately, Mrs. R (I’ll call her, in case she would rather not be named) contacted me by FB message, said she worked for UPS, and would be happy to help me look for the box. I sent her my information.

This afternoon, I called Vistaprint to see if they still had the box. Their normal policy is to recycle unclaimed/returned products, so they didn’t still have it. Instead, they offered to reorder everything I’d lost in the box and send it to me for free. IT WASN’T EVEN THEIR MISTAKE – IT WAS THE MISTAKE OF MAILBOXES, ETC. AND UPS – and yet Vistaprint, with the help of this one blessed UPS employee/FB friend who went out of her way, was the one to make it right.
Also: www.vistaprint.com LOL
So I just wanted to offer a public THANK YOU SO MUCH to Vistaprint (particularly Patricia, who worked with me) and Mrs. R. Without their assistance, I would’ve been out $500-600. Both of them went out of their way when they didn’t have to, and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
Thanks for reading!

LUX: Beginnings
LUX: Consequences
ABOUT LUX: Beginnings:
Now available together for the first time, don’t miss Obsidian and Onyx, the first two books in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s bestselling Lux series. Also includes bonus content exclusive to the print edition! “A thrilling ride from start to finish,” says RT Book Reviews.
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.
ABOUT LUX: Consequences:
Now available together for the first time, don’t miss Opal and Origin, the third and fourth books in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s bestselling Lux series. Also includes bonus content exclusive to the print edition! “A thrilling ride from start to finish,” says RT Book Reviews.
No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger…and they know it.
OPPOSITION Comes out August 5th!

Welcome Guest Author Laura Welling! #TalenttoBurn

Laura Welling
to the Blog!
I’m super excited to welcome my friend, chapter mate, and critique parter Laura Welling to my blog today to celebrate her debut release, Talent to Burn. You guys have to check this one out!
Welcome, Laura! Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Hi! I’m Laura Welling, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
Talent to Burn is my first published novel, and the first book in the Hidden Talents series. It’s an urban fantasy story about people with psychic Talents and the shadowy organization that’s trying to exploit them – kind of an X-Men-meets-The-X-Files if you will!
It’s the story of Catrina “Cat” Wilson, who ran away from the secret government-sponsored Grey Institute for Talent research when she was eleven, because she had no apparent Talent and was being used as an experimental guinea pig. Her brother Eric, a powerful firestarter, stayed behind.
At the start of the book Cat is approached by the hero, Jamie – even though she’s spent her whole life on the run, he’s tracked her down with his Talent for finding people. He represents a group of misfit Talents and he brings the news that her brother has left the Institute, lost control of his Talent, and killed a bunch of people. Jamie wants Cat to help him track down Eric before the Institute catches up with him, and before he kills again.
Sounds so awesome! Which character is your favorite and why?
Jamie is my favorite. He’s the good guy, but he used to be a professional con man and card player, running short con in Vegas. He’s this charming Irish guy, who grew up on the streets, and has used his wits and Talent to survive.
I like him because he really is an anti-hero, but he has his own ethics. He’s funny, and brave, and thinks rules are more sort of…guidelines.
Love anti-heroes! As the author, what surprised you about this story?
It’s a pretty dark story, which I knew going in – the themes are about being true to yourself, and whether the end justifies the means. The surprising part is that there are parts in this book that really make me laugh, and I’m coming to recognize that as a hallmark of my writing.
Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
Yes! I am working on book two right now. It continues the story of Cat and Jamie’s adventures as they must infiltrate an extremist group to rescue some kids. It also explores their relationship further – neither of them has had a serious relationship before, and it’s fair to say they are both pretty strong-minded. Working out how they work best together is going to be a lot of fun, shall we say.
What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
I wrote a book about spies when I was a kid. It was kind of a graphic novel – really a picture book but it filled an entire one of those 300 page notepads. I wish I still had it! I don’t think it was a great work of literature though, and I’ll tell you I am not an artist by any stretch.
What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
Easiest for me is dialog and action scenes. If something is on fire, there’s some witty banter going on, high levels of sexual tension, people are being shot at, that’s great.
The hardest ones are actually always scenes with the villains. To me the essence of a really scary bad guy is that they are real: someone you might actually meet in real life, with their own motivations. As they say, everyone’s the hero of their own story. So, keeping the bad guys real is hard. It’s always tempting to make them into a straight muahahahaha-type evil overlord. But it’s totally worth it to invest time in these guys.
I so agree! Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
Only in bits and pieces: a line somebody said, or a way I felt about something, or the look on someone’s face. I don’t like to use things wholesale.
Is there a theme or message that runs through your work?
A recurring theme I notice in my writing is about being true to yourself, and accepting who you really are. In the urban fantasy/paranormal world that often includes embracing and stepping into whatever weird powers you have. Sometimes it means being at peace with the darker side of yourself, the part that can cause great destruction or that’s a wild beast.
The other thing that I find is that in the relationships I write couples always become friends first. That’s something I believe is essential to long-term happiness, so it seeps in.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
I have a day job as a software engineering manager, which I adore and am really passionate about.
And you have horses, which I also love! Which romance book or series do you wish you had written?
When I grow up I want to be Ilona Andrews. The “Magic” series is just incredible: her world building is unlike anything I have ever read, and the relationship between these two almost stupidly dangerous people is fantastic.
Okay, now, just for fun:
Milk chocolate or dark chocolate? Dark!
Salty or sweet? Salty.
Bed or kitchen table? Kitchen table.
Beach or mountains? Mountains, every time.
Give or receive? Give.

Passion burns. Betrayal scars.
Cat Wilson grew up a misfit among misfits. She couldn’t read minds, see the future, or start fires like the other Talented kids inside the shadowy Grey Institute. Finally she ran, leaving her beloved brother, Eric, behind. She’s been running ever since.
When she learns that Eric has escaped, leaving deadly fires in his wake, Cat is torn between fear for her brother, and unwanted attraction to the messenger, a charming, Talented ex-con who lives for the next adrenaline rush.
Jamie Murphy is sure his group of outcast Talents can help Eric—if they can get to him before the cops or the Institute, and before he kills again. Cat’s aversion to Talented bad boys is like a wall of ice, but to his surprise, he doesn’t have to use an ounce of his own unique gift to find a way through it.
Yet locating Eric is only the beginning. In the battle to pull him back from the brink, Cat must find the courage to unlock a fearsome Talent of her own. And pray the psychic backdraft doesn’t destroy everyone she loves.

Excerpt:
The place held echoes of a thousand other bars, although the fire had painted everything black. The cheap tables looked worse for wear, lopsidedly melted. The bar still stood, and was toward the back of the venue, with a line of bar stools in front of it.
“Do you know much about fires?” Jamie asked.
“Nothing technical.”
“Look, here,” he said gesturing at the remnants of what had been bar stools. “See how these have melted, but this one at the end is intact?” I looked where he pointed. A fan of burn marks spread out from the untouched stool.
“I guess Eric must have been sitting there.” I rubbed at my arms, which were covered in goose bumps. Thinking about what had happened here made my stomach twist. God, I hoped I wouldn’t vomit. People had died here, right where I stood. I cringed inwardly. “You think he burned them where they sat drinking?”
“That adds up with what we heard in the initial reports. One minute it’s a normal night out, and then everybody—and everything—is on fire.” He paused, looking around, but his expression was neutral. “I wonder what happened then. I guess Eric took off.”
I tried to imagine what could have caused my brother to start the fire. Had someone attacked him? Was it some kind of freak accident? “If you’d started this fire, what would you do next?”
Jamie looked directly at me. “I’d run like hell and hope the cops never found me. Do you see anything else?”
“A lot of mess and water and charcoal.” I closed my eyes. I couldn’t close out the smells, or the images of horror filling my mind. I could never un-see this.
“I mean, do you see anything?”
I fought the urge to punch him. “I never see anything. I’ve told you before.”
“Sorry,” Jamie said. “I know this must be harrowing for you.”
His hand landed on my bare arm, hot against my skin, and I plunged into a waking dream.
Where can we find you on the web?

Sofia Grey
to the blog!
I’m happy to welcome Sofia Grey to the blog today to talk about her upcoming release! Read on…
A deal with a demon, a biker psychic and the girl who might just be his salvation… if the demon doesn’t get to her first.
Coming June 9!
Craving – the 2nd in the Talisman Series. There’s that scary period in the run up to a new release, especially when it’s the 2nd in series. So much pressure! I hope you enjoy Dante, my bad boy biker psychic.
He made a brief appearance in Obsession, the first in the Talisman Series, but now he gets his own story. Don’t worry, you can read it as a standalone.
Check out this awesome trailer from The BookChick!
Excerpt:
Closing the door behind me, I flicked on a series of muted spotlights and smiled at my visitor. I felt more confident with him on my own turf.
He placed his helmet on the floor, took off his boots, and lined them neatly beside it. Padding round the room in his socks, he peered at the photographs adorning the walls and shelves, eyeing the trinkets and ornaments. Even here, in an alien environment, he still acted as king of the jungle. His mid-length, brown hair fell roughly around his face, several days of stubble graced his jaw, yet he looked delicious. God. I’d been too long without a real boyfriend if I thought he was attractive. He was a thug! He wasn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks—he was the wrong side. No fixed address, according to Tristan. No regular employment. Tattoos. Piercings. Motorcycle. God’s-Gift-to-Women attitude. Get a grip, Katherine.
Funny how I forgot all that when he smiled at me.
He nodded toward the bedroom and fixed me with a teasing grin, the silver eyes glittering. “You’re sleeping in there?”
I nodded.
His lip curled again. “And you’re sure you want me to sleep here?” He gestured at the sofa. “It’s awfully close to your bed.”
“You won’t try anything. You’ve not been paid yet.”
“Touché.” He looked highly amused, little crinkles appearing in the corners of his eyes. “You’ve got balls, you know.”
“Oh?” I injected a bored tone.
I stood rigidly as he sauntered to stand mere inches away, close enough to smell his breath. Minty. “You’re afraid of me.”
I kept my face still. My heart was racing, but it had nothing to do with being scared.
“Yet you invite me to stay. And you came waltzing into the tower when you thought you heard someone inside.” His voice dropped. “Just you and a flashlight. There could have been anyone inside.”
“I’ve studied self-defense. I know a few moves.”
“Yeah?” Like a cat playing with a mouse, he extended one arm to the side of my head and rested his hand against the wall. He stood a few inches taller than me, and I shifted my eyes to meet his, intrigued by his posturing. “Are you playing games with me, Kitten?” His voice a sensuous whisper.
As his left arm slowly rose, moving to box my head on both sides, I smiled. And moved. Years of practice made for an easy grab and twist maneuver. I took him completely by surprise. One hand on his left forearm, I ducked under his elbow and spun around as I dragged his arm down. My left arm shoved at his shoulder, forcing him round.
A second later, with his face pressed to the wall and his left arm twisted behind his back, he laughed. It sounded genuine. I leaned on him a fraction longer, exerting just a little more pressure, then released.
He spun around, laughing, rubbing his wrist. “Well done, Kitten, that was awesome. Are you afraid of anything?”
I allowed a grin. “I’m not afraid of you.”
Blurb
Dante isn’t your typical medium. With his leather jacket, tattoos and piercings, he looks more at home on his motorbike than he does holding a séance and Katherine has no intention of getting involved with him. He’s the complete opposite of the kind of man she wants and represents everything she’s tried to leave behind, but she needs a medium and he’s the best one around.
Dante’s never allowed himself to get close to anyone for fear of putting them in danger. His craving for Katherine is about to bring his worst nightmares to life.

Josh Delaney is the ideal honey trap. His charm and model good looks would be enough for most women, but coupled with his psychic ability to read their thoughts, he’s impossible to resist. Suspicious husbands employ him to test their wives, to see if they can be tempted to stray.
High profile couple Suki and Gabe Bridgewater have the perfect marriage, or at least, that’s the image they portray to the world. Behind closed doors, Gabe’s dominance in the marriage is unravelling and he decides to test Suki, using Josh as bait.
For Josh it should be just another easy job, but two things go horribly wrong.
One, Josh falls in love with Suki.
And two, Gabe refuses to let her go.
Romance author Sofia Grey spends her days managing projects in the corporate world and her nights hanging out with wolf shifters and alpha males. She devours pretty much anything in the fiction line, but she prefers her romances to be hot, and her heroes to have hidden depths. When writing, she enjoys peeling back the layers to expose her characters’ flaws and always makes them work hard for their happy endings.
Music is interwoven so tightly into my writing that I can’t untangle the two. Either I’m listening to a playlist on my iPod, have music seeping from my laptop speakers, or there’s a song playing in my head – sometimes on auto-repeat.
