Welcome, Rachel! Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Hi Laura, thanks for having me here today! I live in the UK with my fabulous husband, our two teenage daughters and my beloved black Lab, Max. When I’m not writing, I like to read, knit, watch TV and walk the beautiful English countryside.
I write contemporary romance and romantic suspense for Harlequin Superromance and Victorian romance for eKensington.
Awesome! Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
My latest release is book three in my Templeton Cove series with Harlequin – although all the books can be read as stand-alone novels. This book introduces a brand new hero and heroine to the Cove and is set against the backdrop of the town’s fairground. Although this is a contemporary romance, there is a small dose of suspense in the story too because I can never seem to resist a villain, lol!
Which character is your favorite and why?
I just love Sasha Todd – she’s feisty and determined with a soft heart. She went through a very traumatic experience in her youth that shaped who she is today––and more significantly her single-minded determination to own Funland.
I don’t doubt for one minute, Sasha will appear in future books––her voice and character continue to badger me, no matter how hard I try to let her go!
That’s great! Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
Yes – I have just starting writing book five (book four is a Christmas book and due for release this coming November) and really hope Harlequin will want more. This latest book is the last book in my contract, so fingers crossed, I’ll have a lovely new contract offer sooner rather than later. I’m still not ready to leave the Cove quite yet J
What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
The first book I ever wrote was Searching For Sophie which was contracted by The Wild Rose Press in 2007 – I am happy to say I have had at least one book published every year since then and every book I have written has found a home.
When both Harlequin and eKensington offered me multiple book contracts during 2013, it was a dream come true J
Congrats! What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
For me, the hardest thing about writing is the actual plotting and making a germ of an idea stretch to 85,000 words minimum. More often than not, I reach around 40,000 words and hit a brick wall. The only way to get through this block is to keep writing!
The easiest thing for me to write is dialogue – once I start hearing the characters’ voices, it can be like taking dictation. Lord, I love those days!
Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
The only real-life event I’ve used in my stories was for book two in my Harlequin series – my family and I were rescued by helicopter from a hotel roof during the 2010 French floods and inspired A Man Like Him. The opening chapters of the book are an almost hour-by-hour account of what happened.
Which romance book or series do you wish you had written?
There are a LOT of Nora Roberts books I wish I’d written – I am a HUGE Roberts fan. I also love Jill Shalvis and Robyn Carr…the list goes on. If I have to name a favorite series for each of them, it has to be the Chesapeake Quartet from Nora, the Lucky Harbor series from Jill and the Virgin River series from Robyn. These authors are a huge inspiration to me J

The machine rumbled to life and John froze.
What the hell??
Gripping the lap bar, he hauled it up and stood. Sasha Todd gracefully skipped up onto the steel platform beneath the carriages. She was dressed in white shorts that revealed her long slender legs and a simple red T-shirt. His breath caught. Did she have any idea how stunning she was?
She smiled, mischief glinting in her black eyes. “Sit down, John. Let’s take a ride.”
He blinked. “Are you crazy?”
“What’s the matter? Don’t you like rides?”
He tried and failed to muster some semblance of authority as the machine started to move. “No. Turn this thing off.”
She quirked an eyebrow and curved her fingers over the back of the carriage. “Yet you want to run this place? You can’t do that without knowing the fairground inside out. That includes the rides. Move over, I’m jumping onboard.”
Their eyes locked and once again, his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth. Why the hell did the woman managing the fairground have to be so physically arresting? God, he wanted to write about her. Describe her in words in a vain attempt to let the damn world know how unnervingly beautiful she was.
He lowered into the seat, steadfastly avoiding her gaze. He concentrated on keeping his pride in place and not giving in to the temptation to grip the bar again. The ride picked up speed and the carriage shifted as she hauled herself up and sat down next to him, pulling the lap bar down with her.
The distinct smell of something musky and sexy drifted as she tossed her long hair over her shoulders. The tendrils whispered across his cheek and John closed his mouth, trapping the inconceivable urge to groan.
She wriggled her behind deeper into the seat and settled back with a sigh. “So…what’s the plan today? Enjoy the fair? Cook the books? Fire me?”
Attraction gave way to irritation, fueled by the nonchalance in her voice. “You do realize this thing is moving, right?”
She shrugged and glanced around before focusing entirely on him. “Sure. Now is as good a time as any to get acquainted, don’t you think?”
John swallowed. Jesus, her eyes are ebony black, like two huge pieces of jet. He snapped his face forward. “Do you know something?” He slid his arm across the back of the carriage above her shoulders. “If you want to play some stupid game in a bid to annoy me, that’s fine. I’m the one in control here, whether you like it or not.”

Talking About Greek Mythology Fiction at the Library of Congress!
