Waffle House Is Making a Big Change Impacting Its Most Popular Menu Item

Not every change is bad, and a big change announced by Waffle House on July 1 should please customers.

Waffle House had slapped a surcharge on its most popular menu item. Eggs. The surcharge was 50 cents.

However, now the chain has announced it's removing it, which means costs should go down for customers who order egg dishes.

"Egg-cellent news…the egg surcharge is officially off the menu. Thanks for understanding!" Waffle House wrote on X on July 1. The post has had more than 2 million views.

The chain's website says eggs are its most popular food item ever.

The chain's website says it has sold 4,768,980,537 eggs since launching in 1955. That's at the top of the list. Hashbrowns are second, and waffles are third.

That's a lot of eggs in a lot of restaurants; there are more than 2,000 Waffle House restaurants in the U.S., according to CNN.

In order, bacon strips, grits, and cups of coffee are next in line.

A person wrote on the Waffle House X page comment thread, "Awesome! Now add pancakes to the menu please." But Waffle House retorted, "Respectfully no."

— Waffle House (@WaffleHouse) July 1, 2025

According to CNN, egg prices "fell 12.7 percent in April." On June 26, the USDA wrote that "wholesale egg prices have now dropped 64 percent, with retail prices falling 27 percent from their peak earlier this year."

In February, Denny's joined Waffle House in implementing an egg surcharge.

"While we hope these price fluctuations will be short-lived we cannot predict how long this shortage will last," Waffle House said when it announced the egg surcharge, according to Good Morning America. "We are continuously monitoring egg prices and will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow."

According to the Hill, rising egg prices were in part due to an "avian flu outbreak, which contaminated eggs and forced the U.S. to import more of the food product."

I Saw the Theater-Only 'Odyssey' Trailer and It's Incredible

In one year from now, Christoper Nolan's take on the world's first epic, The Odyssey, will hit theaters on July 17, 2026. And, if anyone thought Christopher Nolan was going to let this movie be anything but a movie theater-driven experience, then the release of the new trailer is a sure sign of what's to come. In short, if you don't want to go to the movie theater, Nolan doesn't want you to worry about seeing The Odyssey

The first teaser trailer for The Odyssey dropped today, on July 2, but you can't watch it online unless you're looking for a leaked version. Instead, the first trailer for The Odyssey has played exclusively ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth. I've seen it, and I think the hype for this movie is very much deserved. Nolan is doing something with this story we've never quite seen, and the haunting nature of this trailer feels like the promise of getting a myth actually brought to life.

The very short teaser focuses mostly on Tom Holland as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. He's talking to Jon Bernthal's character, who hasn't been identified yet, but based on the setting, I'm guessing he's one of the many dudes who overrun Odysseus's home in Ithaca while he's away. There's imagery for the Trojan horse, and Bernthal's character says, "I know nothing of Odysseus, not since Troy." This could indicate that Nolan will include aspects of The Iliad in this movie, the book that precedes The Odyssey. Cool!

Related: Ben Affleck Had Hilarious Reaction to Matt Damon's Shirtless 'Odyssey' Snaps

As Bernthal narrates, saying things like "some say he’s rich or some say he’s poor,” the trailer shows us people moving in and out of caves, who are presumably Odysseus's crew. And, most relevantly, it shows Matt Damon as the man himself, floating on a raft in the sea.

If you see a leaked version of this on TikTok, it's going to feel underwhelming. But the thing that this trailer really nails is a certain kind of tone. There's an ominous nature to Bernthal's narration, and you get the sense that Telemachus is both freaked out and frustrated. There's a touch of naturalism and realism here, which is interesting because we're reminded by the nature of this trailer that, in general, we hear of Odysseus more than we see him.

In truth, despite being one of the greatest heroes of all time, if not the greatest, Odysseus doesn't really have a true cinematic face. When we think of him, we think of a legend, and not a man. What makes the new trailer so cool is that it plays into this fact and promises us a movie that will give us the thing we've never seen.

It's a very brief teaser, but when you're sitting in a darkened theater, clutching your popcorn, it will make your hair stand up. Odysseus is back. For the first time.

The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, 2026.

Nostalgic New Arcade Concept Is Bringing Back Childhood in a Big Way

Chuck E. Cheese is getting a glow-up, and this time, it’s for the grown-ups. The iconic arcade-and-pizza chain just launched Chuck’s Arcade, a new concept designed to give adults a chance to relive their joystick-filled glory days without needing a kid in tow.

So far, 10 Chuck’s Arcade locations have opened in shopping malls across eight states, including Florida, Oklahoma, and New York, with more on the way, Restaurant Business reported.

And while it still carries the DNA of the chain’s “where a kid can be a kid” roots, this spin-off is all about letting adults drop their stress, and a few tokens, on everything from Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to VR shooters and racing simulators.

Want tickets and prizes? Some locations still have them. Want animatronics? Charles Entertainment Cheese himself makes an appearance. Prefer your nostalgia with a slice of pizza? A flagship Chuck’s Arcade and Pizzeria has already opened in Kansas City, Mo., and future locations may also offer full food menus.

The vibe? According to the brand’s tagline: All the vibes, none of the drama.”

“Chuck E. Cheese has spent decades mastering the arcade experience,” CEO David McKillips said. “Chuck’s Arcade is a natural evolution—an opportunity to extend our legacy into new formats that engage both lifelong fans and a new generation.”

This latest move is part of a larger comeback strategy for the Dallas-based chain, which filed for bankruptcy in 2020. Since then, it’s leaned hard into brand nostalgia, launching a Christmas cartoon special, exploring a reality competition show, and partnering with Westgate Resorts to bring arcades into vacation properties.

Whether you’re a Gen Xer, elder millennial, or just someone who misses the rush of watching those paper tickets pile up, Chuck’s Arcade is designed to scratch that childhood itch.

Just be warned—it might be harder to beat your old Galaga high score than you remember.

Grocery Staple Del Monte Foods Faces Bankruptcy After 135 Years on Pantry Shelves

Del Monte Foods, a fixture in American kitchens for more than a century, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is seeking a buyer, the company announced Tuesday.

Don't expect the brand to disappear from grocery store shelves anytime soon, though. The 135-year-old company, known for canned fruits, vegetables, broths, and teas, will continue operations as it works through a court-supervised sale process, Reuters reported. The reason? Del Monte secured financing to maintain business continuity during the proceedings.

Best recognized for its namesake label, Del Monte also owns brands like College Inn and Joyba. Generations of Americans have relied on Del Monte products as pantry staples, but shifting consumer preferences, supply chain challenges, and mounting debt have pushed the company into financial trouble.

“This is a strategic step forward for Del Monte Foods,” CEO Greg Longstreet said in a statement. “After a thorough evaluation of all available options, we determined a court-supervised sale process is the most effective way to accelerate our turnaround and create a stronger and enduring Del Monte Foods.”

The company filed for bankruptcy in New Jersey, saying it owes money to as many as 25,000 people and businesses. Its total debt and assets could range anywhere from $1 billion to $10 billion.

Despite the filing, Del Monte said its non-U.S. subsidiaries are unaffected and will continue normal operations.

Still, the move signals a major shift for one of the most recognizable names in the food industry. As consumers increasingly prioritize fresh, organic, and specialty products, legacy brands like Del Monte are feeling the pressure.

Del Monte’s story is far from over, but its future may soon rest in the hands of a new owner.

For shoppers raised on its green-labeled cans and cartons, the brand’s uncertain path is another sign of how quickly even the most familiar names can face unexpected crossroads.

'Disoriented' Man, Pet Cats Rescued From Swamp

Body camera footage shows the recent rescue of a young man and his two cats in Somerset, Massachusetts. Officer Brennan Cardoza waded into knee-deep muddy water in late June to locate a 19-year-old who had gotten lost in a swampy area of town.

The teenager reported that he had gotten lost while going on a walk and had been wandering around the dense swamp for seven hours. He told officers he left without his cell phone or sufficient water.

In the body camera footage, the officer pushes his way through tall reeds growing out of the water until finding the visibly disoriented young man. “Muddy, nasty area where you wouldn’t want to be," Cardoza told local news affiliate WPRI, "it was difficult to see, I had to call out for the gentleman."

Police began their search after the boy's parents called the Somerset Police Department to report him missing, saying he never came home from his walk. Nearby neighbors had heard cries out for help but could not locate where they were coming from.

Massachusetts police also utilized a drone to locate the missing teen as the officers searched through the thick branches. The drone played a pre-recorded message instructing the young man to continue calling out until officers were able to find him. Once recovered, the drone also helped Officer Cardoza and the teen find their way out of the area.

“Thankfully, this was successful,” said Officer Trenholme, who piloted the drone. The young man and his two cats made it back home with no injuries.

Why Nick Mayhugh’s Gold Medal Sprint Didn’t Feel Fast

If you look at the world’s top sprinters, they all share a few key traits. Sure, genetics play a huge role—some people are just built for speed. But what really sets them apart is their sprint mechanics: high knee drive; powerful arm swing; a forward lean through acceleration; and tall, upright posture at top speed.

Nick Mayhugh is no different. The three-time Paralympic gold medalist, silver medalist, and world record holder may have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 14, but that’s never slowed him down—literally.

In 2020, Nick Mayhugh brought home three gold medals: the men’s 100m T37, the men’s 200m T37, and the 4x100m Universal Relay. When you look at his year-by-year growth and how he stacks up against others in his group, it’s clear—this dude is fast. But according to Mayhugh, when he’s running at his best, the race doesn’t actually feel fast at all. In fact, the world around him kind of falls away, it’s just him, his mind, and his body, and time slows.

Related: The Mindset Fueling Nick Mayhugh’s Record-Breaking Runs

To be at his best, he has to be completely locked in. If "you had a bad night's sleep, or you had something for breakfast that upset your stomach, that can change the output of your race," he says. "But then you get on the line, and because your ankle wasn't a certain degree out of the blocks, your third or fourth step was messed up, and that'll mess up your ninth and 10th step. And then you're up, and you're fighting, and when you fight, you run slow."

Most people think running your best just means getting from point A to point B as fast as humanly possible. But Mayhugh sees it differently—it's not about who’s the fastest, it’s about who slows down the least.

Related: At 13, He Lost His Arm. Now He’s a Top Peloton Coach

"It's kind of a weird thing to conceptualize, because the fastest I've ever run, when I crossed the finish line, in my head, I could already hear my coach yelling at me," he said about his race at the Tokyo Games in 2020. "I broke a world record in the semifinal, and then broke a record again in the final. And I shut down, I stopped pushing, around like 60 to 70 meters, because I knew that I was going to win."

Knowing he was taking gold in that event, Mayhugh started staring at the clock mid-race, not realizing at the time that it would come off as disrespectful. But according to him, he wasn't showboating; he was just focused. In his head, he thought, "Wow, I'm running really fast, but it feels so slow."

When the time flashed on the big screen and confirmed he’d just broken the world record, Mayhugh couldn’t help but celebrate. But even in that euphoric moment, all he wanted to do was call his coach and explain the surreal feeling: It didn’t feel fast at all.

“And as I’m celebrating, it’s one of the happiest moments of my life, I’m thinking, 'That felt really, really slow,'" he recalls. "I got back and got on the phone with my coach, and I was like, 'Coach, that felt slow.' And he was like, ‘What did I tell you? Smooth is fast, and fast is slow.’”

Sperry Is Selling an Awesome Pair of $195 Boat Shoes for Just $71, and They're Perfect for Summer Weather

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Sperry boat shoes are the quintessential example of the style, but that doesn’t mean the brand is resting on its laurels. They’re pumping out premium editions and using non-traditional materials left and right. Case in point: the extra-rugged boat shoes that are on sale with a $124 discount.

Sperry Gold Cup Vibram Boat Shoes are just $71 right now, 63% off of the $195 they’ll normally run you. As you might have guessed from the name, they’re made with elevated materials including a Vibram sole, a quirky choice that works quite well. They’re available in three colorways, but only two are getting this great discount; the other, which is actually called Other Beige, is $90. These final prices are the combination of existing markdowns and an additional 25% off that’s automatically reflected when you add these shoes to your cart.

If you own a pair of hiking boots or shoes, chances are pretty good that there’s a Vibram sole on the bottom. The Italian company patented the first rubber lug sole in the ‘50s, a vast improvement on the outdoor footwear that came before. The off-white wedge sole used in these boat shoes has its signature zig-zag pattern, yellow octagonal logo, and proven traction of a Vibram.

As part of Sperry’s premium Gold Cup line, this single-eye shoe uses upgraded materials like full grain leather, copper hardware, and lambskin linings. Beyond its functionality, the half-inch sole adds what the brand calls a “streetwise edge” to the typical New England nautical vibe of a pair of Top-Siders.

The extra 25% off is a limited-time offer that ends on July 7, but certain size-color combinations are already out of stock. That means the best time to buy your own pair of Sperry Gold Cup Vibram Boat Shoes is as soon as you can.

Sophie Cunningham Receives Blunt Message From NFL Player

Earlier this week news broke that the WNBA is expanding to Cleveland in 2028, followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030, bringing the league to 18 teams.

When asked about the change, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham didn't exactly hold back on the chosen locations. She would have rather seen a number of other cities like Miami or Kansas City get a team instead.

"You want to listen to your players, too. Like where do they want to play?" she said. "Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans? I think Miami would have been a great one. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. There’s a huge arena downtown that nobody is using."

“I’m not so sure what the thought process is there, but at the end of the day, you want to make sure that you’re not expanding our league too fast. I think that that’s also another thing. It’s kind of a hard decision-making situation. But man, I don’t know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland].”

Her comments caught the attention of Detroit Lions offensive lineman Dan Skipper, who didn't take too kindly to her opinion. "You ever been there? Pretty good place to play, well not for you now," he said bluntly.

You ever been there? Pretty good place to play, well not for you now. https://t.co/YJEKazHkJE

— Dan Skipper (@DanSkipper70) July 1, 2025

Earlier on the afternoon of July 1 the city of Detroit clapped back at the Fever fan favorite as well.

“The last time we were home to a WNBA team (Detroit Shock) we ranked top five in attendance for five straight seasons, No. 1 in attendance for three straight seasons and set a single-game attendance record of 22,076 fans at Game 3 of the 2003 WNBA Finals,” the City of Detroit account wrote.

Cunningham certainly didn't add any fans in Detroit this week.
