Maurice Moss for the Doctor!
Andrew Reynolds is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Who wants to see The I.T. Crowd’s Maurice Moss dressed as the Doctor?
Yeah you do!
Rendering our geek wishes with the modern witchcraft of Photoshop the Facebook page dedicated to everyone’s favourite I.T support worker (yeah, it’s a thing) have combined two popular things to create a third and cubed your love.
Played by the always excellent Richard Ayoade (seriously, stop reading this and go watch Submarine, his feature debut as a director; you’ll thank me) Moss and the gang are set to return in a final feature length episode of The I.T Crowd later this year.
Over on Facebook, Ayoade’s alter ego has even written a letter to the BBC…
Dear BBC,
I am writing to inform you that I am available to take over immediately as the next Doctor. I’ll even bring my own sonic screwdriver (mine actually works).
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Maurice Moss.
But for now sit and bask in the wonder of The Time Lord Supportious! TARDIS not materialising? Have you tried turning it off and on? Etc etc…

Private Eye On Who Problems
Philip Bates is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
The current issue of Private Eye has summed up the recent disasters faced by the Who production team of late.
The issue, dated 14th- 27th June, politely notes several ‘balls ups’ that have marred recent Doctor Who, most notably the memo sent out to the BBC’s commercial branch and some external licensees that (oops!) announced that Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, has quit the show. It goes on to explain that while the broadcaster put a day-long embargo on the terrible news, it leaked on Twitter early (at about 10pm, instead of the expected midnight announcement), mainly thanks to The Daily Mail’s annoying effort on their front page.
Yes, it’s not been great for Moffat and co., who also suffered from the Series 7 Part 2 DVD, featuring the then-unaired finale, The Name of the Doctor, being sent out to nearly 300 customers a week or so early. The finale was so secret, even preview copies were cut short to keep the internet free of spoilers.
Most fans were very good and behaved admirably. Steven Moffat even applauded them.
However, John Hurt revealed a spoiler too, as Private Eye notes:
“…to his local paper, the Eastern Daily Press, while publicising, er, the revamp of Sheringham Little Theatre’s Film Club.”
The magazine, edited by Have I Got News For You…?’s Ian Hislop, sadly mentions that (and this will hurt, Whovians):
“This will mean that between January 2012 and June 2014, when under Doctor Who’s previously-accustomed schedule 41 episodes would have been broadcast, the BBC will actually put out a grand total of 16.”
You can read the full article and thus cry yourself to sleep here, or pick up the latest issue before 25th June. But look on the bright side: we might not have got so many episodes recently, but what we have got – including Asylum of the Daleks, Hide and The Crimson Horror – have been top quality.

Launch a TARDIS into Orbit!
Andrew Reynolds is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who than by blasting a TARDIS into space?
Launching their own Kickstarter page 3 Stags want to put a TARDIS into the payload bay of a real, actual, honest-to-goodness, rocket, and launching it into a Low Earth Orbit on the anniversary date itself.
The TARDIS satellite – which is already complete – is constructed from light-weight aluminium and it is a scaled-down 1ft version of the actual TARDIS.
What’s more, the light on top functions, thanks to solar cells in the windows. So the astronauts in the International Space Station – which is also in Low Earth Orbit – can look at the window and see the TARDIS apparently materialising in space.
How cool is that!?
Inside, they’ll be a GoPro Hero 3 camera and a magnetic, passive attitude control system designed to keep the TARDIS’s camera pointing toward the planet for some hyper cool shots of the Earth from orbit!
The group have taken to Kickstarter to look for the necessary funding required to pay an aerospace company to carry the TARDIS satellite into space – they have already surpassed their $33,000 target but you can still pledge and get your hands on some unique perks as you pay to blast a TARDIS into space.
What’s more – if this proves successful – the group are looking into launching a full size TARDIS into space!
“We could put a full size TARDIS in orbit with $382,000. It’s a crazy amount of money, we know, but it’s not out of the question if we got a lot of support. And we are talking about a full-size TARDIS… in space…”
For a full breakdown of the groups interstellar mission and what goodies you can get for your pledge head over to the 3 Stags page on Kickstarter!

Matt Smith: The Doctor an “open book”
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Speaking to Kasterborous’ Phil Bates, departing Doctor Who star Matt Smith told us that he doesn’t feel that the Time Lord can be defined.
This interview and more can be found in Kasterborous Magazine #1, in which we interview Matt Smith not once, but twice!
Phil caught up with Matt at the Doctor Who Exhibition, and discovered his thoughts about how he approaches playing a 1000 year old time traveller.
“The thing to remember about him is, you can’t define him. You can’t pin him down. It’d be foolish to think you can. It’s an open book still, really.”
The Eleventh Doctor has been lucky enough to have many different companions, but only a handful of them have travelled in the TARDIS. We’ve all noticed the change in the Doctor when he appears with his latest companion Clara – but has Matt?
“You have to treat them differently and I think it changes the way [the Doctor] is, hopefully. I keep saying that and I don’t know what I’ve done! But y’know, isn’t that what’s exciting about the show? You sort of get a first episode again. And I think all the stories come together… The Ponds had a wonderful time and they’re part of a wonderful era, but now it’s time for Jenna to have her adventures.”
Matt also tells us about Steven Moffat’s rigorous standards for writing Doctor Who.
“[Steven’s] very adamant that to be a writer on Who, you’ve got to have done a lot before. You know, because you’ve got 47 minutes and you’ve got to pack in a huge amount of narrative. And it’s not an easy thing to do and get right – and to get the Doctor’s voice bang on is difficult as well!”
There’s a good chance we can all name a respected Doctor Who writer who hasn’t done a lot before, but we’ll save that for now.
Instead, I’ll remind you that more from this interview can be found in the first issue of Kasterborous Magazine, out now in PDF format priced £2.99 from the Kasterborous Store!

How Chris Addison Might Look in Doctor Who
Meredith Burdett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Amidst all of the casting rumours that are floating about the internet recently, as well as several newspapers, regarding the casting of the Twelfth Doctor, there have been a few amusing suggestions mixed in with the believable and the ridiculous.
One of the funniest is the mention of comedian Chris Addison (The Thick of It, Mock the Week) stepping aboard the TARDIS.
Addison is apparently a bookies favourite for the role alongside Ben Daniels (Merlin) and Rory Kinnear (Casino Royale) although his serious acting credits don’t seem to outweigh his comedy efforts [rather like Jon Pertwee - Ed].
The new series of topical panel show Mock the Week, which features Addison as a regular, apparently addressed the rumour in the recording of the latest episode which aired last night on BBC Two, but photos of Addison wearing a Fourth Doctor hat and scarf combo didn’t reflect what we saw on the broadcast show. As the 30 minute show is edited down from over 60 minutes, we’ll have to assume that the scene ended up being cut.
You can catch the latest Mock the Week on BBC iPlayer.
But let’s face it – the Twelfth Doctor rumour-mongering is all getting a bit silly season now, isn’t it?

Katy Manning Recalls The Mind of Evil
Meredith Burdett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
There’s something of an exclusive extra courtesy of BBC News South East to compliment the recent release on DVD of the Third Doctor classic, The Mind of Evil.
Katy Manning, who played Jo Grant from 1971 to 1973, has visited Dover Castle with the news team for the first time in 40 years to talk about her time on the show and specifically the filming of this recently restored to colour adventure that’s only existed in black and white up until now.
Manning talks about her and Third Doctor actor Jon Pertwee’s interest in the castle when they were filming as well as what they would get up to together in their spare time between shooting (nothing saucy, mind you), her sadness that Pertwee could not be with her to revisit the castle itself and also the filming of the serial which manning describes as ‘full on’.
Dover Castle doubled up for a prison in The Mind of Evil and is revisited by actor Nicholas Courtney, who played Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart, and former Doctor Who producer Barry Letts in a documentary as part of the DVD release. This additional mini feature with Manning will be something that fans of the recent release will want to take a look at.
Out Now on DVD, The Mind Of Evil is just £13.29 on Amazon! Check our review to find out more!

Lost Episodes Rumour Comes Alive
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Last November we became aware of the possibility that lost episodes of Doctor Who had been uncovered. Today the first website to publicly break the news was Bleeding Cool.
Now, you don’t simply announce that lost episodes from the 1960s have “turned up”. Other websites have done this in the past and been rightly ridiculed for it.
We’re not yet certain which episodes have been uncovered or where, but Bleeding Cool mentions both The Tenth Planet and Evil of the Daleks – which isn’t quite what we’ve heard but is welcome nevertheless.
How this pans will prove interesting in Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary year – it’s just a shame that yet another major leak has occurred…
