What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who than by blasting a TARDIS into space?

Launching their own Kickstarter page 3 Stags want to put a TARDIS into the payload bay of a real, actual, honest-to-goodness, rocket, and launching it into a Low Earth Orbit on the anniversary date itself.

The TARDIS satellite – which is already complete – is constructed from light-weight aluminium and it is a scaled-down 1ft version of the actual TARDIS.

What’s more, the light on top functions, thanks to solar cells in the windows. So the astronauts in the International Space Station – which is also in Low Earth Orbit – can look at the window and see the TARDIS apparently materialising in space.

How cool is that!?

Inside, they’ll be a GoPro Hero 3 camera and a magnetic, passive attitude control system designed to keep the TARDIS’s camera pointing toward the planet for some hyper cool shots of the Earth from orbit!

The group have taken to Kickstarter to look for the necessary funding required to pay an aerospace company to carry the TARDIS satellite into space – they have already surpassed their $33,000 target but you can still pledge and get your hands on some unique perks as you pay to blast a TARDIS into space.

What’s more – if this proves successful – the group are looking into launching a full size TARDIS into space!

“We could put a full size TARDIS in orbit with $382,000. It’s a crazy amount of money, we know, but it’s not out of the question if we got a lot of support. And we are talking about a full-size TARDIS… in space…”

For a full breakdown of the groups interstellar mission and what goodies you can get for your pledge head over to the 3 Stags page on Kickstarter!
