Matt and Jenna on Blue Peter Specials
Philip Bates is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, that loveable pair who are the Doctor and Clara Oswald, will answer your questions – but only if you’re of a certain age.
The stars are set to answer viewers’ questions in two Blue Peter specials on Thursday 21st November and Saturday 23rd November (the former of which will also announce a new competition to design a sonic device for either Madame Vastra, Jenny or Strax).
Coleman stars in Thursday’s edition, which will be shown on the CBBC Channel at 5:30pm, and Smith will appear on the anniversary day at the Blue Peter Party to celebrate 50 years at 9:30am.
Moffat did promise that Doctor Who would take over TV and y’know what? Let’s ignore the cynics – Doctor Who will rule television for the next few weeks, starting with this Thursday’s The Science of Doctor Who with Professor Brian Cox (The Power of Three)!
Doctor Who has a long history with Blue Peter – even counting presenter, Peter Purves, as one of the Doctor’s companions – so it’s great to see the children’s show will be celebrating the Big Day.

Unlock The Day Of The Doctor!

Social networking gets a lot of criticism; admittedly, there are shadows in even the brightest of rooms. But there’s a lot of good, a lot of innovation, that comes from this amazing community.
Just look at that lovely story of Harold Jellicoe Percival, a member of the ground crew of Bomber Command, operating during the Dam Busters raid: he died with no close relatives and no close friends. But his death, at the age of 99, was marked by an obituary that kickstarted an internet campaign – and yesterday, at 11am, over 300 people, including military personnel, attended his funeral as a sign of their immense respect.
Social networking opens the world up, and shows the very worst, but crucially, the very best too.
In a very cool move, the BBC has announced that tagging Doctor Who content on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #SaveTheDay can unlock exclusive clips of The Day of the Doctor, the 50th anniversary special that airs in just 11 days!
It’s a brilliant move – upload your creative content to form a stunning array of stars, which form a constellation: the TARDIS. It looks to be going well too, with the top part of the time machine already being realised.
The cynical amongst you will just put it down as a big PR stunt. Yes, it certainly is. But then, it’s also a manifestation, a representative image of fandom: possibly the greatest, most welcoming and immersive fandom on Earth. We need to spread the word. 23rd November is Doctor Who Day.
C’mon everyone – let’s #SaveTheDay!

Marcus Wilson: “…we’ll attack 3D again.”
Nick Kitchen is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
As previously reported, BBC’s trial run with 3D programming and production will come to a close, with only two remaining 3D specials left to run –the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special on Nov. 23rd and a documentary on micro-organisms slated to run sometime next year. The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Who producer, Marcus Wilson, and discussed his experience with the 3D medium and Doctor Who:
“I am hoping that in watching this the TV drama industry will go away and evaluate how best to proceed with 3D. I was one of 3D’s skeptics, now I am a convert…stereo adds another layer of richness to the show.”
While Wilson may now be a 3D fan, don’t expect to see an entire run of Doctor Who in the third dimension any time soon…at least not yet:
“I don’t think we are quite at a stage in terms of budget or in ease of workflow where a 2D and 3D series production would work, but creatively 3D does add to the story. When the time is right we will attack 3D again.”
Indeed, Wilson even noted that the Day of the Doctor would haven’t been done in 3D had Arri, the camera brand that Doctor Who is filmed with, not introduced a lighter version of their Alexa camera.
Without having seen the finished product (sweet Lord, the 25th cannot get here fast enough!!), it is hard to assess how much it will really add to the special. While most genre films are now released with 3D versions, its success vs. the 2D version is hit and miss with critics in regards to what it actually adds to the movie.
The interview is an interesting read and can be found at the link below. What do you think? Are you excited the Doctor’s big day will be in 3D? Would you want to see a whole series in 3D?

New Mobile Game Unveiled – Doctor Who: Legacy
Danny_Weasel is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Amid all the excitement for for a certain pair of trailers over the weekend something has quietly slipped under the radar, a couple of new images for a new Doctor Who video game.
The images themselves are intriguing, the first is a shot of the monumental TARDIS seen at the end of Name of the Doctor and the second is of an animated group or Daleks and a resurrected Dalek slave from Asylum of the Daleks.
Other than these images all we know so far is that it’s an action RPG and it will be free-to-play and it is called Doctor Who : Legacy.

The games creators, Tiny Rebel Games and Seed Studio have been very vocal about the project especially over the past week via both their Twitter and facebook pages.
We are tremendously proud and excited to be publishing/developing a game based on one of our favorite sci-fi properties of all time.”
To anyone familiar with the history of Doctor Who video games, the prospect of another one may not set your world ablaze. But there is a good chance this may be the title to change all that. The game, which in the survey appeared similar to the “puzzle Quest” games, was mentioned in a recent Doctor Who consumer survey, and if the finished game is as it appeared then, then it should be pretty impressive.
Proud to release a first look at our new game, Doctor Who: Legacy. Coming soon to mobile. #SavetheDay #DWLegacy pic.twitter.com/bgGTWctcgN

So far no release date has been given for the title, which will be available for both iOS and Android operating systems, but it would seem safe to assume that it should hit around the time of the 50th anniversary episode, so any day really.
Are you looking forward to this game? Does the thought of a multi-doctor puzzle based action RPG fill you with glee or have years of bad experiences soured you to the idea of a game based on the show completely? Drop a message below and give us your thoughts.
Gamers may also be interested to know that Kasterborous Magazine Issue 2 focuses almost entirely on Doctor Who‘s long and complicated history with video games. Look out for more news on that in the coming weeks…

Jenna Coleman’s Emotional Reaction to Matt Smith’s Last Episode
Rebecca Crockett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Endings and goodbyes are hard. The Doctor doesn’t like goodbyes. So it’s no surprise that when it came to reading the script for her last episode with Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor, Jenna Coleman had a hard time getting through it.
Coleman recently had a chat with The Guardian and revealed just how hard and emotional her first reading of that script was.
I’d been putting it off for ages and ages, because once you read the last page, that’s it, the story is over. So I read 10 pages on the tube and I stopped, and then I picked it up again the other day and finished it. I was an absolute mess, an absolute wreck. But it’s good; it’s sad, but it’s what needs to happen. It’s perfect.
Coleman’s Clara has had a relatively short time with Smith’s Eleventh Doctor but the actress says she is pleased with the casting of Peter Capaldi.
They told me and Matt when Prince Charles and Camilla came to the set. We were both: ‘Ahhh, of course.’ It takes you a few moments – I don’t think he was on any of the original lists. People were talking about Rory Kinnear and people like that, but as soon as you say it, you’re like: ‘Of course.’ As Steven Moffat said: ‘He’s the Doctor.’ And it’s brilliant that we’ve gone so different from Matt.
Both Coleman and Smith can next be seen in Doctor Who’s historic 50th anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor, to be simulcast worldwide on 23rd November. The simulcast also includes some special 3D showings – see your local cinema listings for more details.
