Watch How These Teens React To Doctor Who!
Rebecca Crockett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Many of us have friends and family that don’t understand our obsessions. Before I came to the Whoniverse, I was part of another worldwide fandom, one that many people in my life didn’t understand. And no matter how many times or ways I could think of to introduce them to the subject, they were never as into it a I was.
Have you ever tried to show someone who just didn’t understand about Doctor Who what the show was about? Do you have someone who sort of knows the basics about the show, but still doesn’t get why you watch and love it?
In the little video gem above, that somehow we’ve missed since it was posted back before the 50th anniversary, YouTubers The Fine Bros showed a group of teenagers the trailers for the anniversary episode and filmed their reactions. Some of them were obviously fans, some only had a vague knowledge of the show, and others didn’t know the show at all.
The teens were also asked to try to identify certain things from the show, like the TARDIS, the sonic screwdriver, and the Doctor. For the record, I think calling the sonic a magic wand is pretty darned funny.
We also have a bonus delete reaction video for you as well. Watch through to the end for the funniest bit (even if it is a bit juvenile…)

This week’s podKast reunites Christian Cawley, Brian Terranova and James McLean as they mull over a whole host of recent news items.
We get excited by the enthusiastic press reviews for Deep Breath, have a chinwag about the audacity of the Doctor Who World Tour and celebrate 15 years of Big Finish producing Doctor Who adventures (and here’s to another 15!).
Meanwhile, we have a think about just how Steven Moffat can possibly work in a decent explanation for Peter Capaldi’s face having appeared in Doctor Who previously, before agreeing (quite reasonably!) that IT DOESN’T ACTUALLY MATTER!
Finally, we offer you a trio of recommendations, all Doctor Who and each interesting in their own right…

Doctor Who World Tour Hits Seoul And Sydney!
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
This week, the Doctor Who World Tour rolled into Seoul and Sydney, taking the brand new episode Deep Breath to two audiences that wouldn’t normally get to see it before fans in the UK.
Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman only finished shooting Doctor Who on Thursday night. The following day they were whisked to South Korea to the first of their overseas events, comprising the screening and a Q&A, some of which will also feature Steven Moffat (depending on work commitments).
The Seoul event was covered on Saturday here on Kasterborous. The following photos were provided by BBC Worldwide afterwards:
If you missed Saturday’s event (or more likely, the live feed!) there is a video of highlights:
Isn’t the fan reaction out there superb?
To get a better feel for things, there is also this short film that the BBC’s official Doctor Who YouTube page has released…
So, from Seoul to Sydney, where the TARDIS took Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman today. Following the Seoul event, the scheduled Q&As have been moved to after the screenings of Deep Breath (yes, Mr Disgruntled of Nantwich, some kids in South Korea saw it before you) rather than before. Probably something to do with the quality of questions during the first event…
In Sydney today (yesterday if you’re down under) Peter Capaldi received an astonishing standing ovation when introduced to fans at the screening.
We’ve also been treated to the following images:
That’s it for a couple of days, until Sunday, when Jenna and Peter will hit Mexico City. You’ll be able to watch the Q&A on YouTube from around 6pm UK time.

Rare Weta Dalek & Doctor Who vs Davros Statues On eBay!
Christian Cawley is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Here’s a chance you don’t get to grab very often – not one, but TWO Weta Workshop Doctor Who figurines available on eBay right now.
Available to bid on is a Dalek Weta Statue which is #254 of 900 and the Doctor Who and Davros piece (#448 of 900), reviewed by this very site in 2010. Both statues are limited editions from runs of just 900, with the Dalek piece particularly sought after, selling for over £300 just a few weeks ago.
Both are exceptionally well-crafted, and look amazing in any light.
The description for the Dalek is as follows:
For sale is my much-loved open Dalek from from the 2005 Doctor Who episode “Dalek”. This highly detailed statue is number 254 from a limited run of 900 by Weta, the same company that makes props and miniatures for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
I’ve only had the Dalek on display for a few months since purchase in 2012, the rest of the time it has been boxed up.
All pieces (the eye stalk, gun and plunger arms are removable) are included, and the Dalek is still in its original box with all of the same packaging it shipped with, which are all included.
This really is in mint condition and I’ve enjoyed admiring it. You will too!
Meanwhile, the description for the Fourth Doctor and Davros statue is a little longer, but features this intro:
For sale is my much-loved, rarely displayed Limited Edition Doctor Who: The Doctor & Davros Statue, numbered 448, and shipped in the original box.
I’ve had this superb statue since 2010, but in that time it has only been on display for around 6 months, and has been boxed up permanently since 2011. I felt it was time to let someone else have the chance to enjoy it!
As a result, this two-piece statue is in exceptional condition.
Bidding has already opened on both, with each set to close on the evening of Monday, August 18th. To be in with a chance of winning the Weta Dr Who Davros Ltd Edition 900 Statue Figure or the Dalek Weta Statue, A Very Rare Piece, Limited Edition
, head to eBay now!
(Disclosure: both pieces are up for sale by Christian Cawley, Kasterborous site editor.)

Don’t Miss This Doctor Who Charity T-Shirt
Rebecca Crockett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Do you love getting new t-shirts?
Do you (like me) have a huge collection of Doctor Who and other geeky tees, purchased from just about every site there is across the Internets?
Do you like doing something good, something for charity?
Then listen up!
For TODAY ONLY Teefury is selling the shirt pictured above by artist Drew Wise. The design is a gorgeous one, and to me really says a lot about who the Doctor is and what the sound of that beautiful blue box landing really means. I’m with The Moment on this one – that sound brings hope where ever it goes!
And the best part is that a portion of the proceeds of the sale of this design will be donated to the amazing Doctors Without Borders, who send doctors and medical personnel and supplies all over the world, wherever there is a needs, regardless of what is happening in the area.
The Doctor definitely knows no borders or boundaries, and will help whoever he can. So why not help support those that do the same thing here on Earth?
To order your “Doctors Without Borders” tee shirt, head on over to TeeFury. But hurry! While this shirt won’t be gone at midnight tonight, you’ve only got until 25th August to get yours!
And for more info on Doctors Without Borders, including their history and other ways you can support them, check out their website.

Destroy the Infinite Reviewed!
Meredith Burdett is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
Destroy the Infinite, or “How The Doctor Met The Eminence”, is perhaps the second best Doctor Who story to feature the Doctor’s recurring nemesis.
We heard the Sixth Doctor come up against him in The Seeds of War, the Eighth Doctor had various encounters with the gaseous entity in Dark Eyes 2 and with Destroy the Infinite, we get to the all important first encounter and it’s easy to see why the nasty gas hates our favourite Time Lord quite so much.
The Fourth Doctor and Leela arrive on the planet Delafoss, the Doctor wants to show his friend quite how wonderful the planet is but there’s one slight problem, the world is in ruins and overrun by the Eminence’s Infinite Warriors. They, under the malicious rule of their horrible entity, have built a battle ship called the Infinite (they’re also incredibly vain) which they plan to use to conquer many, many planets. How does the good planet Earth respond to this threat? They send their own ships to tackle the problem and, you guessed it, destroy the Infinite. But of course, it’s not that simple. Because the Infinite Warriors and the Eminence have thought ahead and packed their battle ship with innocent human beings, if the Infinite is destroyed, so are they, and that’s one heck of a problem for everyone…
Destroy the Infinite runs at a fairly fast pace and doesn’t let any of the characters stop for breath. Whilst the story of the Eminence has been a large game plan at Big Finish HQ for quite a while now, this reviewer will admit that the character itself has failed to appeal on any spectacular level. The idea of encountering the creature through various incarnations of the Doctor has been a treat and the aspect of the non linear progression is very nifty as well. But the Eminence itself has not been too different from many other Doctor Who villains of the past, power for the sake of power, evil for the sake of evil and not great at conversation either.
Taking the Eminence out the picture for a moment (strange, yeah as the story is about him) Destroy the Infinite is a very good tale, with thrills and spills as well some very well realised thoughts on the horrors of war and battle and the outcome that this can have on individuals as well as collectives. Did writer Nicholas Briggs have the centennial of the First World War on his mind when he wrote this? This reviewer is tempted to say yes.
On the whole, Destroy the Infinite is very quick and successful; the Fourth Doctor is possessed, Leela learns a trick or two and still seems to be growing with some strong character development. For the sake of continuity, it’s also pleasing to hear the Eminence’s first encounter with the Doctor, although one cannot help but think that this isn’t the last time that it’ll be popping its gassy head around the door…
Destroy the Infinite is available on CD or via download from www.bigfinish.com now.

Jenna Joins Social Network: Has She Quit Doctor Who?
Danny_Weasel is a writer at Kasterborous Doctor Who News and Reviews - All the latest Doctor Who news and reviews with our weekly podKast, features and interviews, and a long-running forum.
It has been a long held fact that the cast of Doctor Who, the main cast regulars at least, are not usually found on social media, no while they are still active on the show. This was true for companion of the moment Jenna Coleman too, who had a twitter account as far back as 2012, but had never actually posted anything on it.
Until now.
Yes, sparking a wave of whispered conspiracies Jenna has taken not only to Twitter, but also instagram where she has already amassed a legion of over 11,000 fans (including Kasterborous!) plus an additional 6000 over on Twitter (including Kasterborous!). Not bad for accounts that only have two posts.
Jenna’s inaugural posts have been from the Seoul leg of the Series 8 world tour starting with this rather stunning cake.
This was followed by a shot of Seoul itself with the phrase “Seoul… Boo”
While having someone who is so integral to the series active on two of the biggest social media platforms of the moment is a definite boon for the fan world (potentially anyway, just look at what Barrowman gets up to on the set of Arrow!) the question remains: why now?
Maybe it is just so we can get a glimpse at the fun and games of the world tour as it progresses, but if that is the case why start at Seoul, why not London, or better yet, at the world premiere in Cardiff? Perhaps no one thought of it until then, but perhaps there is more to it as many fans are speculating.
The other major reason, say many, that we could be seeing Jenna now being allowed on social media is that she in no longer an active member of the cast. Could it be that we will not be seeing any more of Clara after Series 8? I for one certainly hope not, she has rapidly become my favourite companion since Donna Noble and to loose her so soon would be a tragedy. Story details have been kept very well guarded for this run (we know a handful of titles and we have seen set pics showing creatures, but there is a whole unknown series out there) so it could easily be the final one for Jenna. While we still have the Christmas special still to shoot, if she is moving on, does that mean we could be getting a new companion come Chrimbo?
See how quickly these things can spiral into speculative madness?
We’re is hoping that this is nothing more than the Beeb taking the chance to get a bit more publicity out there under the guise of a personal profile, rather than signalling the ringing of the Cloister Bell for one of the better companions of recent years. Of course, in previous years, Karen Gillan only joined Twitter after she left the show, while Arthur Darvill – like Samuel Anderson – already had an account when he joined. Matt Smith relied on his mum and sister for tweets relating to him, and David Tennant and his co-stars stayed away from social networking with the exception of Billie Piper who has joined more recently.
Could it be that there is a contractual block on cast members joining social networks?
How do you feel about ‘Twittergate’? Do you think the end is nigh for Clara, or see it all as another arm of the Beeb reaching out for publicity?
Perhaps you have some other idea what all this could be about. Whatever your thoughts, we want to hear them. Drop us a message below and get chatting, you know we love a good gossip.
