Simple 15 Mins One Pot Meal Recipe: Kimchi Jiggae with Ayam Brand’s Sardine in Olive Oil

I’m a self proclaimed foodie. I absolutely love food. But of course, my love for food is not quite unconditional. I love food, yes, but I don’t always love cooking. I’m the sort of person who detest cooking, especially if the time to cook certain food takes longer the time I will spend to actually eat the dishes that I prepared. And the time I have to spend cleaning up? I hate that even more, and therefore, most of the things that I cook will always be a quickie meal or uncomplicated, easy to prepare one pot meals that can be done within 15 minutes.

Anyway, here’s sharing with you one of my all time favourite one pot meal dish that I usually will prepare for my husband and son on days I feel like playing the good wife and mum; Simple 15mins One Pot Meal: Kimchi Jiggae.

Kimchi-jjigae or kimchi stew is a stew-like Korean dish, made with kimchi and other ingredients, such as scallions, onions, diced tofu and and seafood. It is one of the most common dish in Korea.

Below is my version of Kimchi Jiggae:

 photo 20170526_20504201_zpsqhxmjh8w.jpg

Ingredients:

200ml of water

2 tablespoon of Gochujang (Korean Chilli Paste)*

1 cup of kimchi, preferably cabbage kimchi*

1 pack of Shimeiji mushroom, cleaned and cut

1 onion, sliced

1 tube of soft tofu/Japanese egg tofu

1 can of Ayam Brand’s Sardine in Olive Oil

 photo BeautyPlus_20170527225531_save01_zpsa66nzarm.jpg

Cooking method:

1. Pour 200ml of water into the pot.

2. Stir in 2 tablespoon of Gochujang and let it dissolve in the water.

3. Add in sliced onions, soft tofu/Japanese tofu, Shimeiji mushroom and 1 can of Ayam Brand’s Sardine in Olive Oil.

4. Bring to boil for 15 mins in the pot.

5. Serve with a bowl of piping hot rice and banchan (if any).

Kimchi Jiggae is usually prepared with meat/seafood/poultry, but here I opt for the convenience of the canned Ayam Brand’s Sardine in Olive Oil instead. Sardines immersed in fragrant extra virgin olive oil. This is classic Mediterranean ingredient for salads, bread and pasta, but taste great in stew as well. Ayam Brand’s Sardine fishes are cold water fish. They are rich in proteins which serve as the basis for most of the body’s cell and structures. They are also a natural source of calcium and Omega 3. No preservatives and no added MSG. And a bonus? It is certified Halal by JAKIM and contains extra virgin olive oil which is 100% natural, high vitamin A, D, K & E content, high in polyphenols (a powerful antioxidant) that help to lower blood pressure and rich in oleic acids a monounsaturated fat that reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering bad cholesterol.

The ingredients used in this Kimchi Jiggae recipe can easily be obtained from any major supermarket in Malaysia, but should you have any difficulties obtaining Kimchi and Gochujang, head over to AEON BIG, Jaya Grocer, Cold Storage of any Korean Specialty Stores near you.

Enjoy my recipe and do give this a try.

Shell Helix-Waze Launches First Accident Prone Spots Alert to Make Malaysian Road Safer

Shell Lubricants Malaysia, through its market-leading Shell Helix brand of motor oil, has teamed up with Waze, the country’s most popular traffic and navigation app, to launch Asia’s first accident-prone spots alerts.

 photo 20170525_174233_zpsq3swlgpj.jpg

The collaboration between the two leading global brands is aimed at making the roads safer for drivers this coming Ramadan and Aidilfitri season.

From May 16 till July 15, 2017, a special alert from Shell Helix will pop up on Waze to remind drivers to be extra vigilant when their cars approach any of the 50 accident-prone spots across Peninsular Malaysia. The locations were identified based on historical accident data submitted by Waze users.

The alert to drive carefully when approaching an accident-prone spot is aimed at helping drivers, especially during the peak travel periods at the beginning of Ramadan; during and after Aidilfitri. The message will only be displayed when the car is completely stationary to avoid distracting the driver.

According to Shell Lubricants Malaysia and Singapore, Marketing Manager Alex Lim, the company is taking its road safety practices further through its smart collaboration with Waze so that drivers could take to the roads with less worry.

Waze Malaysia Business Manager Edward Ling Speech at Shell Helix-Waze Accident Prone Spot Launching

Uploaded by K Network Media on 2017-05-25.

Waze Malaysia Business Manager Edward Ling said that the accident-prone spots alert is a unique combination of two features in Waze – big data analytics, generated from a vibrant community of road users and the advertisement placement feature.

During the pre-peak travel period, Shell Helix will also be running a special oil change promotion for Waze users and members of the public who catch its Aidilfitri video on YouTube or Facebook to remind car owners to service their cars before embarking on a smoother ‘balik kampung’ journey.

By presenting a unique promo code that will be flashed on the Waze app and also in the video, car owners will enjoy up to RM30 off when they bring their cars in for an oil change service at participating Shell Helix branded workshops and Shell retail stations’ Lubebay service outlets.

Launched in 2014, the flagship Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology fully synthetic motor oil is the first and only motor oil to feature the revolutionary gas-to-liquid technology that converts natural gas into an ultra-clean and stable base oil.

This enables Shell Helix Ultra to deliver higher levels of cleansing and protection, meaning that no other motor oil keeps your engine closer to factory clean. Besides keeping the engine clean, Shell Helix Ultra also helps remove sludge left behind with inferior oils and provides superior wear and corrosion protection which can help to extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs.

In 2016, Shell Helix unveiled Malaysia’s first engine warranty programme, the Shell Helix Engine Warranty (S.H.E.W). The program covered the costs of repair or replacement of 15 engine components that may fail if it is ascertained that the Shell Helix motor oils fail to provide proper lubrication and protection. Available for free to Shell Helix users, S.H.E.W. is available to personal passenger vehicles that are registered to operate within Malaysia which are eight years old or less.  Shell Helix has recently increased eligibility to cars with mileage of 150,000 km or below.

Ramadan Buffet 2017: Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya

I can be quite fussy when it comes to food. But if there’s one place that always tops my ‘favourite place to dine during festive season’, I have to say that Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel PJ is always on the top of my list. Utara Coffee House Armada PJ has been my favourite restaurant to dine in, especially during festive season for almost 4 years now. My first time dining there was during Ramadan 2013 where I was not only impressed with their hospitality and service, but splendid feast offerings as well.

 photo 20170418_214137_zpstdiurux9.jpg

Soon it will be Ramadan 2017, and I’m pleased to report that nothing changed in Utara Coffee House, Armada PJ, exccept perhaps, the food offerings actually gets better and better than the previous years.

 photo MAKEUP_20170524201102_save_zps0aaqynw8.jpg

With Executive Chef Chew and Chef Mummy. Two friendly chefs who will be responsible for your gastronomic pleasure this Ramadan 2017. Dining in Utara Coffee House makes me feel like going home because of these two chefs. They are not only very fatherly and motherly in demeanour, but they bring the flavours of homecooking straight to your table as well.

Ramadan Buffet 2017: Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel Petaling Jaya (BM)

Uploaded by K Network Media on 2017-05-24.

Check out the my video interview with Chef Mummy here, featuring the highlights of the buffet. The video is in Bahasa Malaysia.

Anyway, since it is a buffet and I can’t possibly taste everything in one sitting and it’s almost impossible to describe everything that they have at the buffet, I’ll just highlight to you what you shouldn’t miss should you dine over there during iftar this coming Ramadan 2017:

 photo 20170418_184606_zpsf61a1awo.jpg

Kerabu Soo Hoon. A must try if you are a kerabu fan.

 photo 20170418_184611_zpssnt2goyd.jpg

Kerabu Mangga. Among one of my favourite kerabu in the buffet. Highly appetizing and goes well with a plate of piping hot rice.

 photo 20170418_184348_zpsph7tjed1.jpg

Nasi Ulam&Sayur Keladi. Now, I’m allergic to yam. Yams will make my body itchy, but these are irresitible and so I tried a spoonful of it. Definitely worth all the itch that I got the next day. It’s simply delicious.

 photo 20170418_184451_zpsxhaov637.jpg

Bubur Lambuk. Flavourful, creamy and rich, the bubur lambuk will surely sooth and comfort your tummy after a long day fasting.

 photo 20170418_184749_zpsdgalfroj.jpg

Sup Tulang Rusuk is another one of those must try dishes in the buffet. Goes well with both plain rice and crusty bread.

 photo 20170418_195350_zpsf3lgomhd.jpg

Asam Laksa with Condiments. This is one of Chef Mummy’s specialty. It’s really bad, bad for your waistline, that is. Being a Laksa Utara fan, I find this very irresistible. It tastes really like something you will get from Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah. Definitely recommended.

 photo 20170418_184544_zpskotofs26.jpg

Itik Berladok. Savoury and not overly spicy, this duck dish is one of the chef’s signature. I gave this a miss in favour of other dishes, but do give this a try when you dine at Utara Coffee House this coming Ramadan. I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

 photo 20170418_184851_zpsmikrs4de.jpg

Ekor Lembu Masak Asam Pedas (Kawah). Is to die for. Pair it with plain white rice, and you will find yourselves having seconds in no time at all.

 photo 20170418_184716_zpszdainirp.jpg

Ayam Golek is one of the highlights at the buffet.

 photo 20170418_184828_zpsolh73mhz.jpg

Kari Kepala Ikan Salmon. Chef’s recommended dish. Not sure how this tasted like as I overlooked this dish during the Ramadan preview, but I’ll be sure to sample some of this on my next visit.

 photo 20170418_184812_zpsvpemidsf.jpg

Ketam Masak Nangka Muda dengan Kunyit. If you have to use your hands to eat these, by all means. Don’t be shy and do it. It’ll be worth all your troubles. The Ketam Masak Nangka Muda is to die for.

 photo 20170418_184527_zpslidwwutd.jpg

Stir Fried Eggplants&Four Angle Beans with Belacan Sauce. A simple and homey dish. Those who loves belacan in their food should not miss this.

 photo 20170418_184433_zpsih36rww5.jpg

Rendang Daging . This is sensational, but not to be had on it’s own. Pair this up with some ketupat or lemang that’s hiding somewhere in the buffet instead.

 photo 20170418_184425_zpsjtwzhbpi.jpg

Siput Sedut Masak Lemak Cili Padi. This may look spicy, but don’t worry. It’s not as spicy as it sounds. All you need to do is just suck on these. Sounds wrong? Well, that’s how you do it when it comes to Siput Sedut. You need to suck on the tip of it to enjoy the savoury fleshes. Eating this may be abit messy, but I assure you it’s worth all the mess it will make.

 photo 20170418_184355_zpsf4hmrson.jpg

Sayur Lemak Labu. Not something you can usually get in the city. So if you are looking for some kampung flavours, then this is it.

 photo 20170418_184412_zpsqqspjwey.jpg

Sambal Udang Petai. One of the culprit that will tempt you to get more helpings of rice in one sitting. Definitely not recommended for those who are on a diet. This will ruin your weight loss program for sure.

 photo 20170418_184906_zpsjxtam49i.jpg

Assorted Malay Kuih and pastries is also available at the buffet, so be sure to check it out.

Overall, Utara Coffee House offers excellent Ramadan Feast. I have no complaints whatsoever, except perhaps, it makes me miss my hometown more, as the food tastes pretty much like what I can get back home. If you are looking for homey, kampung dishes that does not disappoint for iftar this Ramadan, Utara Coffee House at Armada Hotel PJ is definitely a good choice.

Bianco Mimosa Offers Haute Couture to Malaysian Fashionistas

As a woman, I appreciate all things exquisite and beautiful, especially clothing. I like finely sewn clothes that’s not only comfortable to wear, but also helps me to stand out in the crowd. I’m a huge fan of haute couture, but they’re mostly not very affordable. But here’s one that offers exquisite couture dresses and clothing with reasonable price tag to it; Bianco Mimosa.

Here’s a bit about Bianco Mimosa; It was incorporated on 26 April 2013, with a vision to become one of the most prestigious fashion house in the region. Fast forward to 2017, Bianco Mimosa is now a renown fashion house not only in Malaysia, but highly looked up upon in the international fashion industry as well. Bianco Mimosa’s name originated from Italian language, Bianco means white while Mimosa is a Malaysian ‘Touch Me Not Plant’ (Pokok Semalu). Bianco Mimosa not only emphasizes on exclusive haute couture collections but produced ready to wear collections as well and have been hosting numerous designers from across the globe with designs that uses fabrics that are collected from around the world. Their fabrics are also weaved from scratch to maintain exclusivity.

I’ve had the privilege to get a glimpse of what they had to offer for the first time last year during Malaysia Fashion Week 2016 where they showcased their Neo Gladiator Collection on the runway and I thought Bianco Mimosa offers some quite outstanding designs. You may read about it HERE.

Visiting Bianco Mimosa boutique in Sungai Buloh recently has been quite an eye opening experience as I was personally hosted by Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa, the Managing Director of Bianco Mimosa herself.

During our up close and personal time together, I discovered that Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa hailed from the small town of Kedah and have two decades of experience designing telecommunication equipments and audio systems engineering, as well as Project Management and Business Development before she moved steps forward to the industrial sector, which based on heavy industry. Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa was dubbed as the “Iron Lady” because of her active involvement in this sector. Deciding to step out of her comfort zone, Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa wanted to take another challenge in different field, where she found her passion in fashion designing. Yearning to change the world’s views through her creativity, Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa founded Bianco Mimosa in hope to inspire with fashion, beauty and lifestyle throughout Malaysia as well as in Asia Pacific.

All the masterpieces uses time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. There are a few labels currently being offered by Bianco Mimosa; Bianco Couture Atelier, Just Mimosa, Bianco Mimosa, Hijab Mimosa, Jubah Mimosa and Mimosa Kids. Each of these labels offers exquisite clothings with an affordable pricetag to match.

Apart from the latest Bianco Mimosa Eid 2017 collection, T’Amore which was recently launched at Lebaran Fashion Trends 2017, Bianco Mimosa will also be coming up with the ‘Tale of Tongkang Yard’ collection; a collection which design is inspired by Dato’ Ida Suraya Bt. Mustafa’s own humble beginning and childhood days in Tongkang Yard, Alor Star, Kedah.

Step into The New Era of Sungei Wang in 2017

Opening a mall is not an easy task and continuously keeping a mall opened for 40 is definitely not a small feat and something that is well worth celebrating.

Sungei Wang is a one of the pioneers in the shopping centre industry way back since 1977 and led the way for many trends and fashions before shopping centres mushroomed a around the Klang Valley.

Now with the new, bigger and more modern competition all around the city, Sungei Wang strives on with a new evolution for the mall.
