Kungfu Steam Seafood Restaurant, Puchong

Finding a Muslim-friendly steamboat/seafood place in Klang Valley can be quite a headache, considering that most steamboat/seafood joints serves pork and many other non-Halal items on their menu. Scouring Klang Valley for a Muslim friendly seafood restaurant, we found this seafood restaurant; Kungfu Steam Seafood. Located in Bandar Puteri Puchong, this Pork-Free restaurant offers all things steamed seafood.

Kungfu Steam Seafood is not your usual steamboat or hotpot restaurant. New to the Malaysian shores, Kungfu Steam Seafood is all about enjoying the freshest seafood items steamed at your table, using minimal ingredients to retain the natural flavours of the seafood served. Steaming process doesn’t take really long, only 3-5 minutes each time with their powerful steamer, giving you enough time to enjoy your dishes at a rather comfortable pace while chatting with your dining companions.

Upon entering, you will see the Kungfu Steam Seafood Market on the side of the restaurant. This place houses plenty of live seafood. Spotted easily at the aquariums over here are premium fishes, lobsters, crabs, prawns, clams and many more.

Kungfu Steam Seafood offers a main dining area on ground level with air conditioning. A plus point as you wouldn’t have to feel steaming hot while dining. There are also four private dining rooms on the first floor. The restaurant is also children friendly as there’s a playroom provided at the ground level for young children to keep themselves occupied while the adults are dining.

Before the steaming starts, you will be asked to choose from a choice soup or  porridge. Your choice will then be placed into a pot beneath the steamer so that when all the ingredients are being steamed above, all the natural juices and flavours will drip below and flavour your choice of soup or porridge. Interesting, no? We will only get to see the final outcome of the soup or porridge at the end of our meal, when we are done savouring all the seafood items.

There are plenty of seafood items on their menu that you can indulge in when you patronize this restaurant, but here’s recommending some:

Signature Flower Crab Porridge, Clams, Scallops with Garlic and Glass Noodles and Live Tiger Prawns

Mixed Mushroom, Mixed Vegetables, Enoki Chicken Rolls, and Red Snapper

Clams (RM4.80/100gm). These clams are simply steamed with sliced ginger and goji berries. There are no msg, salt or oil added to them. The outcome? Naturally sweet clams that’s good to be had on it’s own.

Live Tiger Prawns (RM12.80/100gm). Tiger Prawns was next after the clams. They are pretty fat and were carefully arranged on the steamer by the staff. Topped with a garden of salad, these crustaceans looked so beautiful in their bright orange hue. Juicy, sweet and tender, you’ll simply be begging for more than just a plate of these.

Scallops with Garlic and Glass Noodles (RM19.80/2pcs). These fat scallops were placed on a mound of glass noodles and were simply garnished with chopped garlic and goji berries. The bland glass noodles absorbed all the juicy goodness from the scallops and were absolutely delicious.

Red Snapper (RM9.80/100gm). The Red Snapper was fished out from the aquarium outside prior to steaming, so I can vouch for it’s freshness. I’m not really a fan of fishes with lotsa bones in it, but I had this nevertheless. The flesh was juicy and while the skin had a lovely collagen-like substance. No added flavours whatsoever. A pretty refreshing way to enjoy a fish dish, I must say.

Enoki Chicken Rolls (RM16.80). These thinly sliced chicken rolls were practically pregnant with enoki mushrooms, baby corns and carrots. Highly recommended to those who wants a variety in their meal and not just the seafood.

Mixed Mushrooms (RM19.80-BIG). Suspects spotted on the platter; enoki musrooms, Shittake mushrooms, oyster musrooms and Shimeiji mushrooms alongside with some baby corns. These mushrooms were bursting with umami flavours. I’m a huge fan of all things mushroomy, and therefore, I enjoyed these alot.

Mixed Vegetables (RM19.80-BIG). These were our fibre source of the day. They were no added flavours to it, and yet, they tasted just as sweet after being steamed.

Signature Flower Crab Porridge (RM33.80-BIG). Once the steamer cover was lifted at the end of our meal, we were treated to the sight of bubbling porridge and flower crab. The staff will assist you to add on spring onions, ginger slices, salted vegetables and coriander to the porridge for extra flavours. The porridge was creamy and thick. The natural flavours of seafood were well infused into the porridge. A very comforting and satisfying ending for our meal, I must say.

My experience over here is very enjoyable, and being a non-pork eater, knowing that the restaurant does not serve any pork or lard puts my mind to a peaceful rest as well and I could eat without doubting the ingredients.

Overall, the dining experience in Kungfu Steam Seafood, Puchong surpassed my expectations with both ambiance and service and I highly recommend this for those who would like to dine with their family, friends or even business associates.

Hotel On The Park, A Family Friendly Accommodation in Resorts World Genting

Living in Kuala Lumpur is like living in an oven that’s being switched on to slowly roast a whole bird. The weather is always uncomfortably hot and therefore, my family and I always fancy places with more cooling weather whenever we decided to go for a short getaway. Since we are living just about 45mins drive away from the Genting Highlands, naturally this place became our number one family weekend’s destination of choice whenever we want some R&R. It is the only place that’s not only near home, but offers cool climate all year round as well.

Resorts World Genting has been our favourite weekend getaway destination of choice for many years now. Those who doesn’t know better, Resorts World Genting is just well known for being a gambler’s heaven. But to me and my family, Resorts World Genting have more to offer than just the casinos. It’s actually nature lovers’ paradise and a foodie heaven. But I won’t be elaborating on that in this post. Instead, I’d like to share with you the latest family-friendly accomodation in Resorts World Genting; Hotel On The Park.

Hotel On The Park was previously known as Theme Park Hotel. The Theme Park Hotel in Resorts World Genting holds many nostalgic memories for the generations of guests who have stayed in the rooms and enjoyed its proximity to the magical world of Malaysia’s only mountaintop amusement park. Since the closure of the attraction in 2013, the Theme Park Hotel followed suit, but only so it could re-emerge ready to give a whole new generation of thrill seekers an insight into creative hotel expansion. There are plenty of attractions nearby the hotel; but a must visit attraction around is defnitely The English Garden which is just across the road and SkyAvenue, which is just about 5-10 minutes walk away.

The hotel is now opened and known as Hotel On The Park, a nod to its proximity to the upcoming first-in-the-world Twentieth Century Fox World Theme Park. Hotel On The Park has no structural changes on the cards. The hotel is still retaining its 448 rooms to accomodate guests, but with vast improvements. Gearing towards family and fun, guests might feel as if they are in Wonderland. When I say Wonderland, I am literally refering to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, of course. Once you walked in into the lobby, you’ll spot giant teacups, giant bench and a bank of trick mirror, reflecting places that Alice passed by as she explored Wonderland when she followed the White Rabbit into the Rabbit Hole.

My family and I had an opportunity to stay at Hotel On The Park during our most recent weekend getaway in Resorts World Genting, and here’s a picture of me and my son at the entrance of the hotel.

I didn’t manage to get a picture at the giant teacup and the giant bench as there were other guests hanging around there for photos. And so instead of waiting for my turn for a photo, my family and I headed for Eatopia for a quick bite before checking-in. This in-house cafe offers quite a few things for famished guests; pastries, pasta, Nasi Lemak, cookies and even sushis. They are all reasonably priced, so if you found yourselves hungry during your stay in Hotel On The Park, you can head over to Eatopia for a quick bite to calm the growl in your tummy.

There’s a mirror trick art in the lobby. I decided to give it a go and here’s fooling around at the lobby before checking-in

My husband, doing his Spiderman pose.

Me and son fooling around

Just us, being crazy before checking-in.

Here’s our access card. Cute, don’t you think?

Our room was a Sixers with Double Decker Bed. It was located at level 3 in Hotel On The Park. Here’s a picture of the hallway. Again, I felt like Alice walking into a maze in Wonderland.

The ‘Eat Me’ and ‘Drink Me’ machine spotted while walking to our room and I believe other floors has these too. These vending machine sells instant noodles, tidbits, drinks and the likes.

A video of our room

Our room, a Sixers with Double Decker Bed. The two queen-sized beds are propped on the tatami-style with one built-up Queen sized bunk bed above another platform. Very clever interior, I must say. The novelty of the bunk beds are bound to have children clamouring to sleep on top, allowing parents a chance to rest without fidgety children in their proximity. The raised sleeping platforms also serve as storage spaces. Compartments in the platforms are used to store luggage, while room safes are also built into the drawer. As the name suggest, the room can accomodate up to 6 pax at a time. Definitely great for families with young children.

Huge Queen-sized bed

The bed is pretty comfy and here’s my bed selfie.

Me and my son, fooling around on the bed. Why? Because it’s fun, of course.

Kid wanna check out the double decker bed

And so here’s us, checking out the double decker bed.

In lieu of expensive heavy drapes and curtains, artists pitched in to hand draw designs in white paint on blackout roller blinds, resulting in original works of art in every room. I find this really creative and refreshing.

More cute deco spotted in our room. But these are’s just drawings. It is a functional trick art deco. Clothes can be hung on knobs around which artists have drawn outlines of closets. The television set too is hung on brackets with artwork around it to make it seem that it is enclosed in a TV cabinet. Cleverly done.

There’s a study table by the window. And here’s a pic of my husband doing his stuff while our son chill around on the bed.

One of the trick art in our room. Me, sitting in an imaginary armchair.

Me, trying to get a pic of myself with the artsy pic, but well, I’m not much a photographer. Failed to get the whole background in the photo. Oh well, can’t say I didn’t try.

Bathroom was spacious. Shower room and toilet are in seperate stall.

Toiletries are provided by Hotel On The Park, so no worries about not having any should you forget to bring your own during your stay.

Bedroom slippers are provided as well, with ‘Happy’ and ‘Feet’ embroided on it to keep our feet happy.

So my husband and I put on these ‘Happy Feet’ slippers. So, did we feel happier? Of course we felt happier. With the kid snoring away on his bunk bed and not anywhere near us that night, we pretty much get cuddlier and more.

My most recent visit to Resorts World Genting is definitely made more enjoyable by my experience in Hotel On The Park. I highly recommend this hotel for people who would like to spend quality time uphill with their families.

All Day Dining Temptations at TEMPTationS, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur

First and foremost, I am a woman. A typical one at that and can be quite undecisive and picky, especially when it comes to food. I never considered eating as just a form of necessity to keep me alive, but I consider it as an art, something to be taken seriously. And when I say taking things seriously, it means that I won’t just shove just about anything into my mouth just because I’m hungry. The food needed to be good. But of course, it is not easy to decide on what to eat whenever I dine out, as sometimes when the mood strike, I want just about everything; from East to West, and almost everything under the sky.

Lucky for me, I’m living in Malaysia. A country that is pretty much a global village when it comes to food. We have almost every culinary delights that originates from all corners of the world.

TEMPTationS has revamped its Indigenous and International Flavors in a Brand New All Day Dining Menu recently to offer a more exciting dining approach with delicious new dishes. And here’s recommending some pretty cool ones from TEMPTationS, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur.

With my host Mr. Yvo van Dijk, Director of Food&Beverage Renaissance KL.

Here’s some all-time favourite classics given new breath in the newly revamped menu; pizzas, pastas and burgers.

Niscoise Salad (RM39.00) is a salad that originated in the French city of Nice. Made from tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, Niçoise olives, anchovies, and dressed with olive oil. Pretty refreshing and highly recommended to those who wants some light bites.

Tagliatelle Turandot (RM49.00) is basically seafood pasta with fresh tomatoes and olive salsa sauce. Generously strewn with mussels, prawns, fish and squids, the pasta is not just comforting but satisfying on the tummy as well.

Supreme Chicken Breast RM46.00. Grilled chicken breast served with polenta cake and a side of corn demi-glace.

Hainan Chicken Rice (RM42.00). Hainanese chicken rice is a dish adapted from early Chinese immigrants originally from Hainan province in southern China. It is considered one of the national dishes over here in Malaysia, consisting of fragrant buttered rice, poached chicken slices, blanced kailan and served with a bowl of clear chicken soup and a side of ginger paste, chilli sauce and dark soya sauce dipping. If you are a lover of chicken dish and comfort food, I doubt you will find another local dish that celebrates both quite so thoroughly in such a wholesome way.

Rendang Pizza (RM44.00). A new addition to the American style 10 inch pizzas is the handmade Rendang Pizza, generously topped with chunky chicken rendang, pepper, pineapple and bean curd as well as a dash of bird’s eye chili for an added punch on the palate.

R Burger (RM48.00) was constructed from 200 gm of Angus beef patty, aged cheddar, beef strips, lettuce, tomato slices, dill pickles. It was served in a bed of seeded buns and a side of fries. Burger fans should not miss this. It was perfection incarnate and simply delicious. Worth every single calories gained, I assure you.

R Cheesecake (RM39.00). The cheesecake came with vanilla chantilli and coconut tulle alongside with refreshing mango salsa on the side. Guaranteed to satisfy anyone with sweet tooth.

Focusing on indigenous cuisine, with over 50 items to choose from, diners can now savor a range of Western, Asian and Local dishes specially prepared with sustainable and locally sourced fresh produce in TEMPTationS, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur. From S

Starters and salads tosSandwiches, soups, Indigenous Asian food and pastas, comfort food, pizzas and desserts, the refreshed menu has it all covered.

Cantopop Sensation, Grasshopper Celebrates Life and Music at Resorts World Genting

The beauty of life celebrated through music is what Grasshopper’s upcoming concert at Resorts World Genting is all about—and the Cantopop stars are sure to impress with their musical delivery.

Live Goes On Let’s Celebrate Grasshopper 2017 in Genting is scheduled to be held at the Arena of Stars on 31 December 2017, 10pm, and the trio from Hong Kong intend to ensure it is an event that emanates positive vibes to usher in the New Year. The message of the concert is, after all, about liveliness and positivity—something the group hope to share with their fans.

Grasshopper reveals how their philosophy has always been to live life to the fullest and having their music reflect how life goes on no matter what happens. Generating an atmosphere of excitement and vital energy at their concert is hence something the group would want to do in the name of entertaining their fans.

Grasshopper, of course, needs no introduction. Consisting of Calvin Yat-Chi Choy, Edmond Chi-Wai So, and Remus Yat-Kit Choy, the group have been hugely popular throughout the 80s and 90s. Set up in 1985, the trio first established themselves at the New Talent Singing Awards where they were subsequently offered a recording contract with PolyGram Records in 1987. They released their debut album in 1988, followed by their second album later the same year.

In 1990, the trio crossed over to the Taiwanese music market where they remained active throughout much of the decade. Although they took a break from the music industry after years of success, they never actually broke up and have continued to reunite periodically in order to perform together.

Prices for the concert tickets are priced at RM808 (VIP), RM598 (PS1), RM398 (PS2), RM288 (PS3), and RM128 (PS4); excluding RM4 processing fee.  GRC (Genting Rewards Card) members enjoy a standard 10% discount via cash or credit card, and Genting Points redemption. This is applicable for all price scales. Admission is one ticket per person applicable to adults, children of all ages and infants.

East Coast Cafe, Resorts World Genting

Last year, when I took a trip to Resorts World Kijal in Terengganu, I was given the chance to experience plenty of East Coast’s delicacies. They are truly unforgettable and I’ve been missing them terribly since. Terengganu is quite a drive away from Kuala Lumpur, my home state and going over just to indulge my gluttony is not quite practical.

But lucky for me, I don’t have to go all the way to Kelantan or Terengganu to indulge in the authentic taste of East Coast Malaysia. Just about 45 minutes drive away from Kuala Lumpur, East Coast Cafe in First World Plaza, Resorts World Genting promises to spoil you with the flavours of the East Coast.

The cafe is located at Level 3, First World Plaza, just beside SeniKome Peng Heng. Here’s some of the East Coast delicacies that I managed to try at the East Coast Cafe.

Traditional Malay Kuih from East Coast Cafe. Not quite sure what these are called, but both of these traditional cakes are the sweet kind.

Karipap Ikan. A common tea-time snack in the East Coast. Karipap Ikan is basically currypuffs with fish and coconut fillings. Inwas expecting it to be savoury, but Karipap Ikan’s taste lean slightly on the sweet side. Some may not like the fishy tasting currypuff, but I find it pretty tolerable.

Keropok Lekor,a traditional Malay fish cracker snack originated from the state of Terengganu, Malaysia. It is also called fish sausage, fish stick, or fish fritters. It is made from fish and sago flour and seasoned with salt and sugar. It’s usually paired with sweet and spicy chilli sauce. Simply addictive and I did not just stop at one piece.

Mee Siam, which means “Siamese noodle” in Malay, is a dish of thin rice vermicelli popular in. The one served in East Coast Cafe is slightly spicy, but highly appetizing on the palate.

Nasi Kerabu is one of the many popular dish which is mostly served at the East Coast of Malaysia. Literally translated as rice salad and this dish usually comes with blue coloured rice and all sort of vegetables meat floss with a touch of the unique spicy gravy on top of it. This is simply a divine and wholesome treat.

Bubur Cha Cha was all right, I guess. I forgo this in favour of plain water when I patronized East Coast Cafe.

Overall the dining experience in East Coast Cafe is really pleasant and should you crave for some authentic East Coast delicacies during your visit to Resorts World Genting, you might want to give this a go.
