Himalaya Sports Candy, Refreshing Candies For Active& Sporty Individuals
If you’re following me on my social media accounts, eg: Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, you’d know that I’m quite an active person and I lead a very healthy lifestyle. I practice Qigong&Taichi and plays with cold weapons like sword, sabre and spear roo. Apart from practicing Chinese martial arts, I’m an active scuba diver as well. I dive almost every other weekend with my buddies.
You can say that I’m not a person that can stay still, and recently, I started taking interest in mermaiding. All of these things that I’m doing are energy demanding sports, and I’m somewhat prone to getting cramps, especially on my left leg. This rarely happens when I’m practicing Taichi, but it usually happens when I’m diving or mermaiding for long hours.
SSI Mermaid training -Duck dive& back flipUploaded by Elizabeth Toh on 2023-02-02.
If you haven’t heard what mermaiding is, here’s sharing with you one of my mermaiding videos.
Anyway, as I said, I’m prone to cramps. Luckily for me though, there’s somewhat a solution to prevent my leg cramps during these activities; which is Himalaya Sports Candy. It was recommended by a runner friend, who is also prone to cramps when she’s running.
Made with the natural Himalayan Salt, this sports candy comes in really handy should your body need some extra sodium before or after an intense workout. The candy is helpful in maintaining hydration in the body with natural salt and glucose. And the best part? It’s refreshing mint-like flavour is ideal for anyone who needs a minty fresh breath as well. And a bonus? It’s really good to sooth itchy or sore throat as well.
I’d usually take one Himalaya Sports Candy before any of these activities and one after I’m done with the activities, and I can assure you that it’s been quite helpful in preventing my leg cramps.
I rarely get any cramps when I take em candies prior to activities, in comparison to when I don’t consume them.
Himalaya Sports candy comes in two flavours – Lemon and Ginger Lemon. And the candy is also available in the new Himalaya Vajomba range which is available in two variants, Himalaya Vajomba Honey Lime Mints and Himalaya Vajomba Actiwhoosh Mints. My favourite is the Lemon flavour and the new Himalaya Vajomba Actiwhoosh Mints.
If you’re a gym goer, runner or someone who leads a sporty lifestyle like me and kinda prone to cramps, or simply need something to instantly perk you up after your activities you might wanna give this a try. I can assure you it’s really helpful. The candy is easily available in your neighborhood stores, convenient stores and yes, it’s also available in major pharmacies in Malaysia. Just look for them in candies and mints section.
The candy is certified Halal by JAKIM, , so no worries about it not being safe for consumption.

Anyway, speaking of the Himalaya Sports candy, I have an exciting news to share with all of you people out there.
Recently,
Himalaya Sports makes it into Malaysia Book of Records with its stunning 12-feet high Peranakan lanterns lighting up Jonker Walk throughout this coming Chinese New Year.
Wow! Will you just look at that? Visitors to the popular Jonker Walk can now add another insta-worthy stop at the country’s biggest Peranakan lanterns sponsored by Himalaya Sports candy. The giant lanterns boast a beautiful design which depicts the historic and legendary voyage by Admiral Zheng He to Malacca for diplomatic and trade purposes at the behest of the Ming dynasty’s emperor in the early 15th century, which would later develop into strong ties between the two kingdoms and led to our Peranakan culture. Isn’t that cool?
Standing tall at 12-feet high and 8-feet wide, the pair of lanterns is acknowledged by the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Biggest Peranakan Lantern” and the sugar confectionary company was awarded the recognition at the official launch of the lanterns recently, which was witnessed by the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, and Melaka Jonker Walk Committee Chairman, Datuk Wira Gan Tian Loo.
The lanterns were unveiled ahead of the Lunar New Year celebrations to illuminate Jonker Walk which will be bustling with locals visiting Chinatown as they prepare for the festivities as well as local and international tourists taking advantage to soak in the vibrant atmosphere during the holiday, and it will remained on display at the Jonker Walk Committee office until 30th June 2023. The launch of the magnificent lanterns is part of Himalaya Sports branding initiative at this top tourist destination where it is also the official sponsor for the Walk’s entrance arches and 800 auspicious red lanterns dotting the skies at the historic Chinatown area.
Datuk Kenny Low, the founder and managing director of Nicko Jeep Manufacture Sdn. Bhd. which owns Himalaya Sports said, “It is a great opportunity for Himalaya Sports to return as a sponsor for the third year at Jonker Walk and this time with travel restrictions lifted, we wanted to mark the occasion with something extra special and memorable. The record-setting Peranakan lantern and its intricate design pays tribute to the tradition of Chinese lanterns, Melaka’s history with China, as well as the beginnings of the Baba Nyonya culture that form a unique part of Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage today.”
Low added, “Through our partnership with the Jonker Walk Committee, we hope to play a small part in supporting our tourism industry to recover from the devastating impact of the pandemic period. The Biggest Peranakan Lantern will be a new attraction to draw domestic and international tourists to Jonker Walk this year in addition to perennial favourites such as its weekend night market, antique shops and diving into the Baba Nyonya culture.”
A unique blend of Chinese and Malay customs, the Peranakan culture is evident in their language, dressing, cuisine, as well as the traditional art of lantern-making – a craft believed to be brought by the Chinese Admiral Zheng He’s skilled crew members to the Malay Peninsula during his voyage.
Traditionally made from bamboo which symbolizes strength and virtue, the lanterns are hung at the entrance of homes during joyful occasions and days of ancestral prayers by the Peranakan Chinese. It is also called surname lantern because the family name and clan are prominently painted on them in addition to vibrant drawings symbolizing aspects of Chinese culture, and is often passed down through generations.
Adding to the Chinese New Year cheer is Himalaya Sports ‘SPOT, SNAP & WIN’ contest. From now until 28th February, visitors can study the pair of Peranakan lanterns to spot the number of Himalaya Sports candy packs hidden within the intricate designs and win cash prizes worth RM19,888 for an auspicious start to the Year of the Rabbit. SSI Try Mermaid Experience with Onshore Mermaid
Remember I shared a posting about me and my family attending Onshore Mermaid Carnival last year? Well, here’s a follow up update after that event; after seeing so many mermaids, it inspire me to go for the full SSI Try Mermaid course with Onshore Mermaid, and the experience is nothing short of amazing. I was too timid to go for this on my own, so I dragged my husband along with me for it.
Instructor Carmen and Merman Lee Kang Ee were assigned to us for our SSI Try Mermaid session. I was really happy that Carmen was assigned as our instructor again, as we’ve met before during the event and I was really comfortable learning from her. We opted for the enhanced version with our instructor, which is a 4 hours sessions instead of a 2 hours session and I must say, it’s really satisfying.
The SSI Try Mermaid session kicked off with a quick photography session with us students wearing the tail skin (commonly known as the mermaid tail). Here’s Ms. Amy, the Mermaid Instructor Trainer briefing my husband on how to wear the tail skin and how to move while wearing it.
We were shown how to insert the monofin into the tail and how to wear wear it properly.
Here’s sharing with you some pics during the photography session.
We were taught how to pose prettily while wearing the tail.
It’s not easy to do this pose as I still couldnt get used to wearing the tail while in the water.
My husband posing while wearing the tail.
Couple shot
More couple shot
Another couple shot in the pool.
Family pic. Our son joined in the fun too. After the photography session, we then proceed to the shallow pool with max depth of 2m for some training. We were taught how to do the mermaid style swimming- the dolphin kick, swimming on the back while doing dolphin kick and side swimming. First we did it with the regular -bi fin, and then after we got used to it, we used monofin to swim. We were also shown how to enter and exit the water correctly while wearing our equipment.
Training in progress with Carmen and Kang Ee.
Although I’m a scuba diver and I have no issues with being in the water, having my legs bind together in a monofin honestly scares me a little bit. This is totally a new experience for me. I discovered that it’s quite hard to swim with the monofin on and takes quite awhile for me to get used to it, but I’m glad that I have a very patient instructor, and she makes me feels safe and well taken care of throughout the session.
I don’t know what good things I’ve done to deserve such supportive and inspiring teachers in my life. I have my Qigong and Taichi Laoshi, my Reiki Grandmaster, my scuba instructor(s), and now I have a mermaid instructor. All of them are very kind, generous and patient with me. And oh…some of them likes to feed me too.
Anyway, I was happy and motivated enough to continue with the full SSI Mermaid course, so my husband and I signed up for it and hopefully one day, I’ll be good and qualified enough to continue my mermaiding journey in the ocean, or as a professional mermaid.
So here’s embarking on another crazy adventure with my hubs in 2023 onwards. Wish us luck, folks.
That said, I’m grateful for all the experience. Embracing the good, and accepting the bad as they are.
Hoping for an abundance of love, health, wealth, happiness and success in 2023.
Ps: Wanna try mermaiding? Contact Onshore Mermaid for more info on how to get started.

Fun Mermaiding Experience at Onshore Mermaid Carnival 2022
Ever since I became a scuba diver, I’ve always been curious on other diving/swimming discipline apart from recreational scuba diving; eg- freediving and mermaiding. I’ve been wanting to learn more about it but keep putting it off cuz I’m the sort of person who likes being accompanied when I’m trying new things, and my circle of friends and scuba buddies aren’t exactly keen on both freediving or mermaiding. Granted, I dive mostly in limited vis and most of my regular scuba buddies are those of opposite sex and they kinda have a misconceptions that mermaiding is just a girlish thing and real men have no business of participating.
But when I saw that Onshore Mermaid was organising a somewhat open day event, and is allowing the public an access to the event to find out what mermaiding is all about, I decided that enough is enough.
It’s time for me to move forward and go find out more about this interesting diving discipline, with or without buddies.
And so I went to the Onshore Mermaid Carnival and had a blast learning how to be a mermaid with my husband and son. Yeaaaaa…Back in 2019 I dragged my husband to go discover scuba with me…fast forward to 2022 I dragged him to try mermaid with me.
So, what’s mermaiding is all about? Well, simply put, mermaiding is where you don a monofin/mermaid tail and swim or dive underwater with it. It’s a form of sport that incorporates both swimming and freediving in an artistic way, and it gives you freedom to express yourselves underwater.
If you think that mermaiding is only for women, and only those with supermodel type of body shape, then you are terribly wrong. On the contrary, it promotes body positivity where you are encouraged to self love and embrace your body shape and feel good about it. It is also not gender biased-totally the opposite, actually. There are many merman out there, and trust me, there are alot of mermaid instructors out there who are actually men. Yes. Majority of the mermen are out there are straight, and most are happily married with kids in tow.
To be honest, I have no idea why people think this is a sissy sport just because most lady mermaids tend to doll up and look beautifully presentable . It’s a sport that requires high level of fitness and strength, I kid you not. It takes alot of stamina to swim like a mermaid. Swimming with a monofin is definitely not an easy feat.
Anyway, enough babbling. Let’s get back to the Onshore Mermaid Carnival event. We were treated to a real underwater carnival where certified SSI mermaids from all walks of life performed their moves underwater.
Although we didn’t signed up for the full Try Mermaid course during the carnival, but there’s activity session and we were taught how to swim, water thread and learn how to do the mermaid wave-kinda swim like a dolphin. All done in a 5 meters deep pool. Okay, as a scuba diver I’d say a 5m pool is very shallow but when you take away all the scuba gears from me, it’s kinda very scary for me. I keep imagining…gosh, it’s 5m deep and I wont be able to breathe down there. (Obviously I also don’t have basic freediving skills)
We’re supposed to submerge ourselves in the pool as well but I kinda failed that part cuz I keep floating up. But I was told it’s okay, cuz it takes repetitive practice to do that.
I got to say that it’s totally different thing from scuba, swimming or even freediving. It kinda train your cardio and your core, and I’m surprised it uses some muscles that I’ve never used before. Similar to Taichi and Taichi weapons, I learned that the strength for mermaid movements also comes from the waist. That said, I feel my back kinda had a good stretchy relief.
Here’s sharing with you a picture with our SSI Mermaid Instructor, Carmen. She was the one in charge of us that day. She’s a really lovely lady and a very patient instructor. God knows that yours truly isn’t the easiest student to teach.
I had so much fun during the event that now I’m scheming to at least go for the full SSI Try Mermaid course with the hubs and kid. We’ll see how it goes.
Similar to scuba and freediving, there’s alot of levels in SSI Mermaid too, and like scuba diving, you’re only encourage to go further if you’re comfortable in advancing to the next level, so there’s no forced commitment there.
I got to say that thanks to the Onshore Mermaid Carnival, at least now my husband don’t think that mermaiding is such a girlish sport anymore cuz of the skills you need to perform when you’re mermaiding is not exactly easy to master and kinda takes lotsa stamina.
Last but not least, if you’re already a SSI student but not a mermaid, check out your MySSI apps, you can get the Try Mermaid manual for free. Onshore Mermaid is under SSI umbrella- (Scuba Schools International). Contact them HERE if you you’re interested to find out more about SSI Mermaid.

The state of Selangor was recently recognised as the first recipient of the National Geopark for the Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark Project. This project involves 20 geosites in the districts of Gombak and Hulu Langat. The results of this recognition have been announced through a meeting of the National Geopark committee, chaired by Dato’ Haji Rosli bin Isa, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA).
The Gombak-Hulu Langat (GHL) Geopark project covers 112,955 square kilometres with geological significance in addition to the longest quartz in Southeast Asia, mountainous landscapes and the formation of several inland basins at the selected geosites. This National Geopark recognition is the seventh after Kinta Valley and Lenggong Geopark in Perak, Jerai Geopark in Kedah, Kinabalu Geopark in Sabah, Labuan Geopark in Labuan and Sarawak Delta Geopark in Sarawak.
According to Mr. Azrul Shah Mohamad, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, as the official tourism promotion agency of the state of Selangor, Tourism Selangor remains active in promoting the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark Project through various efforts. Among them is the collaboration that has been held at the World Travel Market, London, with the British Geology Survey and National Geographic Traveler UK, continuous promotion on social media, as well as public sharing in several series of the Jelajah Selangor Penyayang.
Here are some of the recognised location of the Geopark.

This is in line with the Selangor state tourism campaign, Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere which focuses on the international market.
