Evidence of Guilt by Jonnie Jacobs | book review

This was a freebie deal (If you haven’t signed up for notification of deals, check out Pixel of Ink and Ereader News Today). Sometimes they are a great read. That’s true about this one. I was wrapped up in evidence of guilt, kali obrien, mstery, book review, jonnie jacobsthe mystery from the beginning. I liked the characters, and I was surprised when the murderer’s identity was revealed. The clues were all there, they were just skillfully hidden.

Kali O’Brien has returned to her home town after leaving a prestigious job in San Fransisco. Running her own show is good, but getting business is hard. She agrees to help out an old friend with a case defending a killer the whole town thinks is guilty. The case may be high profile, but not everyone is happy that she’s involved.

I recommend this if you like a cozy mystery with an edge.

Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner | Book Review

I found myself captivated by the story of the young woman who has to save her people even though it means she will probably have to kill her best friend in the massacre. We see Meela’s friendship with the ice massacre, tiana warner, book review, ya bookmermaid Lysi build toward a betrayal that drives us through to the annual massacre.

Tiana creates a believable world of the far north where the people of an isolated island must battle the mermaids to survive. It was hard to put down because the author was able to draw me into the battle with Meela. I wanted the islanders to win, but I knew that there must be another way.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a complex story of love, loyalty, and discovery.

Optical Delusions in Deadwood by Anne Charles | book review

This is the second in the Deadwood series. Anne Charles is up to #5. The books stand alone as stories, but there’s an ongoing storyline or two that means you need to read them in order. In this one, Violet is still worried about her job, her kids, and her best friend. optical delusions in deadwood, anne charles, book review, mystery, romance

The best friend has become obsessed with Dr. Nyce – Violet’s new undercover lover. Violet needs to find the right time to tell Natalie the truth. One of her twins wants her to marry Jeff, so she can have an instant sister. The other twin is the man in the family – and doesn’t want his mom to marry anyone.

If Violet can’t complete the sale of a house soon, she’ll lose her job.

And what the heck is going on with all the body parts appearing in town?

Four Weddings and a Fiasco by Lucy Kevin | Book Review

Romances in a box. I liked these stories as they intertwined. The main character is handed a pile of lemons and she turns them into lemon meringue pie. Losing her restaurant means she has to find four weddings and a fiasco, book review, lucy kevin, romanceanother way to use her culinary skills. Catering weddings seems like a good idea.

Well it should be, but weddings make people crazy.

I liked the stories and am waiting to read the final book.

The Abbey by Chris Culver | Book Review

the abbey, chris culver, book review, mysteryI read this one from a recommendation by someone, and at first I wasn’t sure about it. But the story grabbed me and I just kept reading because the book drew me along.

Ash finds himself drawn to investigate his niece’s murder, despite wanting to walk away from the force. It’s understandably hard for Ash to manage the demands of the investigation, his family loyalty, and the demands of his spirituality.

A fast paced story that will grab you and steal your sleep.

The Gray Man by Mark Greaney | Book Review

This was a free listen on Audible. Narrated really well by Jay Snyder, it was a compelling read (listen). I was surprised that I liked the story, not because I don’t enjoy a good thriller, but because the fthe gray man, mark greaney, thriller, book reviewree ones can be really bad.

The author created a world of strong characters and vital stakes. A corporate hit man, a corrupt CEO and a young girl’s courage, take us through a nightmarish world of greed, betrayal, and loyalty. The gray man only wants to be left alone, but his old boss asks for one more job. Is the job real? Is it a set up?

Can The Gray Man trust anything other than his instincts?

If you like fast paced thrillers that span a continent, you’ll enjoy this one.

Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan | Book Review

I listened to the whole series as audio books, and I have to say there was never a boring moment. The riyria revelations, theft of swords, michael j sullivanstory was intricate enough to be interesting without getting so convoluted that I lost interest.

The narration by Tim Gerard Reynolds was engaging and clear.

The storyline runs through a time when the world is coming to an end, but only the church and one wizard know the truth. Two thieves are hired to steal a sword and the job changes their lives. There’s a mystery, dragons, elves, gods, and we’re never sure who will save the world.rise of empire, riyria revelations

Okay I did figure out who would save the world, but Michael J. Sullivan did a great job in convincing me I was wrong until the end. The characters are not all lovable, nor are they all loyal, or helpful, but they all have a place and they all have reasons for their actions.

I recommend this to anyone who like fantasy sagas, and love stories, and magic.riyria revelations, heir of novron

Sand Omnibus by Hugh Howey | book review

I’m a fan of Hugh Howey – that’s probably obvious from my other reviews, The Silo Saga, Molly Fyde, and The Hurricane. I’m also a fan of a good post-apocalyptic story. This book is another great resand omnibus, hugh howey, book reviewad set in a world where things have gone horribly wrong, and people find a way to survive. There are more books in the series and I’ll be reviewing them in the future, because this one hooked me.

The world is buried in sand, and people fight the dunes every day just to survive. Finding relics of the old world is the job of the sand divers, and this is the story of one family as they struggle to save the world even though it is hard and unyielding.

The passages of diving through the sand are beautifully claustrophobic. The setting above the sand is believable gritty and harsh.

We start with Patrick diving to the mythical city of Danvar. The longest dive anyone has done. Then the first betrayal, and we realize that all may not be what it seems.
