Open Road Is Promoting eBook Gift Giving – GalleyCat

"But what about giving eBooks? While print books make for great holiday gifts, the gift of an eBook is a little bit more confusing. But not to worry, Kindle and Kobo for digital book gift giving of specific titles on a specific date. And iBooks, Nook and Sony all have gift card options."

Nora Roberts: The woman who rewrote the rules of romantic fiction | Books | The Observer

You say it, Nora!

"All some people see is the big R and dismiss it. But I've made my career on my own terms and that doesn't necessarily suit the likes of the New York Times book review.

Forward motion

The excerpt of my upcoming ghost story, The Guy Upstairs is now on my newly designed website. Yes, I said new book. I'm publishing it as an eBook this June and it's in spit-and-polish mode before it goes to my editor.

When I was in high school, I made short movies with my good pal, Tish. We even had a name for our production company (and letterhead, too): TAMALAE Productions. I wish I had a picture of us because we really thought we were It and frankly, had an unhealthy obsession with editing.

Self publishing makes me feel like I'm 17 years old again. There's a heck of a lot of work to be done right on time and many decisions to be made in marketing, advertising and if I should giveaway the cute Nook and Kindle cover that I saw on Etsy.

But the key to pushing this boulder up the mountain is to to stay focused on each step, rather than trying to peek around to see how high I've gone. One wrong move and I'll get squished as the boulder rolls back down the mountain!

I hope you'll enjoy the excerpt and stay tuned as I share more steps along the journey.

Library E-Book Checkouts Soar

Great news for authors! There was also a report in eBook Newser that users may soon have the option to purchase if the title has a long wait list. Very exciting to see so much change in such a short period of time.

"E-book checkouts from libraries through September 30 were nearly triple the total for all of 2010, and overall visitor traffic approached an annual run rate of one billion impressions, according to a third quarter 2011 report from digital distributor OverDrive, whose platform is used by more than 15,000 public and school libraries."

Inkubate Connects Authors with Agents, Publishers – eBookNewser

Not sure if this is for me but it's intriguing.

"Publishing is going through a shake-up right now as new startups launch with the goal of cutting out the middlemen and reducing the number of people between the author and the reader. Today I found a startup that plans to introduce more middlemen, not remove them."

Check it out

Shelf Awareness for Readers for Tuesday, October 11, 2011 | Shelf Awareness

Okay I admit: the red shoe on the cover was the clincher for me to order this book!

Blood Daughters is entertaining and well-written, with a vivacious heroine at the helm and action that doesn't stop. Villatoro has created a truly original lawwoman in Romilia Chacón; let's hope she's around for many books to come. –Sara Dobie, blogger at WordPress
