How To Sync iBooks Between Your iPhone And Your iPad – AppNewser

“If you’ve bought a book in iBooks on your iPad, when you open up iBooks on your iPhone, it will not be there. Unlike Amazon, Apple does not automatically sync these libraries. It is kind of a clumsy process, but easy enough to manage. Essentially, you have to manually redownload every book that you have purchased from iBooks again. But thankfully, you don’t have to buy them again. The download is free.”

Don’t hold your breath, but the CW is casting for the next TV Wonder Woman

After reading the premise of this so-called, Wonder Woman TV show, I’m disappointed and disgusted.

Warning: a geek rant is about to begin. Leave while you can.

So this from the casting call sheet:

“Iris comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield.” (For all the sordid details read: Warner Bros., CW Casting for Next TV Wonder Woman | Latin Heat Entertainment.)

Okay so why is her name Iris? Since December of 1941, Wonder Woman has been Diana. She’s an Amazon from the Greek legend, and guess what, she’s named after a Greek goddess! Did Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton change Batman’s name from Bruce to Rick? Was Tony Stark changed to Antonio Starko?

Wait. I’m just getting started.

So “Iris” is from a secluded country. But if I remember correctly, Wonder Woman is from an island that is believed to be legend until Steve Trevor’s fighter plane crashes down on it. After Diana learns about the world of men through Steve, she wants leave Themyscira to fight Nazi world domination. Against her mother’s wishes, and in disguise, she becomes Wonder Woman and is forced to leave the island in disgrace among the Amazons. What the CW is proposing is in a word, stupid. It would be as if the creators of Smallville had written Clark Kent (who kept his real f-ing name) as a kid adopted from a remote, secluded country. Is it more difficult to believe that Wonder Woman comes from a legendary island or a dude falls out of the sky? But they stayed true to the legend and little Kal-El arrived in his Kryptonian space rocket in the middle of a corn field and the show worked to ten seasons.

Do these people not realize what has made Smallville as well as the Batman, Spiderman and Avengers movies so successful? The fans wanted the legends and the show and movies delivered. So why do they have to keep changing Wonder Woman? Thor got to keep his cheesy costume. Captain America was set during WWII. Fans were pleased and came back to the theatres for The Avengers. Wonder Woman fans are no different. We want the lasso. The bullet-proof bracelets. We are dying for the moment when our girl in satin tights slowly emerges in the goddamned costume!!!

While Warner Bros. chases its tail with Wonder Wonder yet again, I’ll enjoy the story line in Justice League: The New 52. These guys know what they’re doing.

We can have our ebooks and support local stores, too!

When I founded Reina Books, one of the cornerstones of the business was to make books available through independent bookstores. First, I like visiting small bookstores. Second, they are an author’s best friend. Bay Books in Coronado and New & Recycled Romances in Costa Mesa were my first big supporters in that they shared all the gossip about who was a diva and who wasn’t, as well as hosted well-attended book signing events. But as I was planning Lost in the Light, I was concerned because my initial plan was to launch it only as an ebook. But family and friends urged me to try print-on-demand not only for those still devoted to print books, but also for local bookstores to carry. So even if it meant delivering stock out of the trunk of my car, I was ready to do it. But then Kobo Books and Indie Bound launched a partnership that saved me gas money, not to mention countless bookstore staff from the harassment of an independent author!

If you love the convenience of ebooks but you’re devoted to supporting locally-owned bookstores, check out this list of participating booksellers on Indie Bound. Through the Kobo eReading Program, you can purchase and read ebooks on Nook*, iPad, Sony Reader and Android Devices. Participating bookstores receive credit for your purchases.

Here’s the how-to:

Click on the bookstore of your choice and from their website, set up your Kobo account.
Or, purchase a Kobo Mini or Glo eReader bought from the store.
Download the Kobo app onto your device. You can then designate your participating independent bookstore in the settings. (*With Nook, you need to side load your Kobo titles onto the reader. It’s easy and I’m happy to share. Just leave a comment at the end of the post.)
Through your Kobo account, browse, search for, and buy ebooks with a clean conscience!

If you have questions, ask away in the Comments.

Disclosure: I am not a tech expert. But I do love to play with gadgets. I own a Nook device but also carry the Nook, Kobo and Kindle apps on my smarty-pants phone.

The Wisdom of No Escape: And the Path of Loving-Kindness: 9781570628726: Pema Chodron: Books: Shambhala Publications

“We could reconnect with the weather that is ourselves, and we could realize that it’s sad. The sadder it is, and the vaster it is, the more our heart opens. We can stop thinking that good practice is when it’s smooth and calm, and bad practice is when it’s rough and dark. If we can hold it all in our hearts, then we can make a proper cup of tea.”
