What is your favorite genre to read and what makes it so awesome? I love anything and everything related to the Young Adult genre, whether it’s books, movies or TV shows. There’s something so fresh about it. With YA, I’m not reading about the kids, the hubby, the mortgage, or the company, etc. I get that every day — I don’t want to read about it too!
If you could meet any dead person, who would you choose? Any particular reason why? Jane Austin, because I’m so impressed with that she accomplished and that her work is still admired after all this time — especially by me.
If the Earth suddenly became uninhabital, would you rather live under the sea or in space? The problem is that I wouldn’t actually live under the sea since I can’t swim. Pathetic, but true.
What was your most favorite pastime as a kid? I drew a lot and made animals out of clay. I used to do that for hours!
If you could live in any time period other than the present, which would you choose and why? I don’t think I could live in the past. I’m much too outspoken to survive in a time where women didn’t have a voice. But if I had to pick a time, I’d probably pick the old west where I could at least tote a gun.
What do you do when you experience that lovely problem called writer's block? I step away and hopefully gain objectivity. But when it doesn’t go away, that usually means something about the plot is really wrong and I need to work it out or start over. Writer’s block is rare for me though. I’m one of those obsessive writers who lives and breathes her stories/characters. When I’m driving, the radio is off and I’m making mental notes on my WIP. Same with the shower or when I’m waiting in line at the grocery story. My brain is always going, so by the time I get on my laptop, I have plenty to write about.
When you were little, what did you think you'd be when you grew up? An actress or singer. Not sure what I was thinking at the time — I was way too shy as a kid to do either of those things. Pffft!
Do you have a secret obsession you'd be willing to share? <wink, wink> Channing Tatum… except that my obsession isn’t really a secret J
What food/drink would absolutely devastate you if they stopped production on? Dr. Pepper. I’m a total junkie!
If you could step into the shoes of any fictional character for one day, who would it be and why? I’d be Elena from The Vampire Diaries and I’d totally give Damon what he’s been wanting. It would be quite a hardship on me, I’m sure, but I’m very generous that way :-P
Which is your favorite fairytale? Cinderella. My favorite retelling is Ever After. *big sigh*
Which do you prefer: ebook, hardback or paperback? Hardback is too awkward to handle when I’m reading in bed and too heavy to carry around. These days I’m hooked on my Kindle Fire, because if one book isn’t hooking me, I can go to straight to the next one.
This or That
Underworld or Twilight  :Because with me, it’s all about the romance, which Twilight had plenty of. Original or Remake: It depends. Some remakes are great, but others can’t be outdone, like The Matrix. Sweet or Salty : But I like both. Drama or Comedy : Dramas are too depressing. And don’t we get enough of that in the real world? Fantasy or Romance : It’s all about the romance. Spring or Autumn : Because you’ve just finished a long winter and that first warm day makes you feel like you have a new life. Plus, the flowers are blooming and who doesn’t love that? Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston : Neither. I’m more of a Ray LaMontagne girl. I tend to go bluesy, maybe even with a country edge. Dirty Dancing or Footloose : Dirty Dancing all the way! Movie Theatre or Loveseat : Gotta have that popcorn and giant screen. Tea or Coffee : Preferably with a little bit of chocolate and cream. Mm-mm. Rain or Sunshine : Sunshine and then a little more sunshine. Skiing or Surfing : Neither. I can’t swim and I really don’t like the cold. Tree house or Man Cave : LOL. Man Cave.
Choose a challenge...if you dare!
Write a sentence using all these words: joker, fireball, backpack, sticker, hula hoop : The joker grabbed a fireball from his backpack, then aimed for the sticker on the hula.
Write a sentence using all these words: wolfpack, mirror, pop rocks, cuckoo clock, Edward Cullen, hairspray : When the cuckoo clock struck, the wolfpack mirrored Edward Cullen, using hairspray liberally, strumming guitars and singing pop rocks.
Write a sentence using all these words: love birds, twizzlers, fireworks, ferris wheel, turtle : The fireworks started and the love birds jumped on the ferris wheel with their turtle and fed each other twizzlers.

Something Witchy This Way Comes by Veronica Blade

Veronica Blade

Synopsis: Brainiac Tessa McClean’s newly discovered magical powers give her hope of an escape from her inadequate life. But the thrill of being a witch fades when she learns of a rival coven and begins to suspect her own coven’s objective. Evidence tells Tessa to trust one side, but instinct drives her toward the other.

When Hayden Anders, the most delinquent kid in school — and the toughest — offers self-defense lessons in exchange for tutoring, the timing couldn’t be better. Though the idea of hanging out with a bad-boy that tempting is unnerving, staying alive amidst warring witches takes priority. She vows to hold onto her values and not surrender to the bad-boy she begins to secretly want.
Together, Tessa and Hayden uncover the truth about the two factions — a truth that explains why the covens will stop at nothing to lure her to their side. Tessa has only a matter of weeks to form an alliance with one coven or the other, but the wrong decision could cost Tessa the lives of all those she loves — including Hayden.
Bleh heh heh...lots of romance scenes in this one.  J

This book jumps right to the point of the story, with Hayden, a delinquent that knows how to protect himself, being asked to look after fellow classmate Tessa until the proper protection detail arrives to do it themselves. The only reason Hayden does it is because the school administrator said he could make quite a bit of his misbehavior disappear from his permanent file and help him get his grades up a bit before graduation. Lucky for them Hayden’s trying to turn his life around and willing to go along with it cause he had no idea what he’d really gotten himself into. And neither did poor Tessa, who finds out she’s coming into some magical powers. Not really a bad thing, but there are two covens out there that expect her to take a side in a war that’s been going on forever. Both have hidden objectives that make it difficult for Tessa to choose, especially when she learns her older sister’s choice got her killed. What I really enjoyed the most was the romantic tension between the two as they were now forced to spend all their time together. Hayden is a little bit free with the women…well, actually, he’s quite the hound dog. Tessa had one bad experience with a guy and finds it hard to trust any of them, particularly Hayden, who hooks up with a girl everywhere he goes. But she can’t deny an attraction is growing for him exponentially, and his jealous behavior every time a guy moves in on her proves he’s having the same problem.

I loved this book. The plot moved smoothly, as did their relationship and I enjoyed every minute of their frustration. Alright, there were times when I wanted to smack Tessa and tell her to get over Hayden’s past and realize he was trying really hard to better himself for her, but mostly, I just loved it. J Something Witchy This Way Comes is definitely for mature audiences and worth every minute you spend reading it!

Interview and Giveaway with Kelly Libsack, Author of Preordained and Predestined!

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

High off Mountain Dew. Sam and Dean lover [sigh...Dean...<wipes drool>]. Obsessed with Edgar Allen Poe. And probably dresses up like Shakespeare's characters when we're not looking. LOL. (I could totally see Kelly hitting up the Renaissance Fair). :) Let's take a few minutes to get to know this crazy-cool chic!
Website
GoodReads
Facebook
Twitter

What was your favorite book as a kid? I had several, so I’ll list the top three. First, “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. Second, “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare. Third, “Flowers in the Attic” by V.C. Andrews
Tell us your favorite quote. "If you would attain to what you are not yet, you must always be displeased by what you are. For where you are pleased with yourself there you have remained. Keep adding, keep walking, keep advancing.”  St. Augustine
If you were stranded on a desert island what is the one book you couldn't be stranded without? Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
What is your favorite genre to read and what makes it so awesome? There is something so ensnaring about gothic that it pulls me in so deep, I don’t want to struggle to get away from the eerie style.
Tell us your favorite author. Which book is your total fave from that author? No doubt, Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.” It’s a short story. But still my fave.
Any pet peeves you'd be willing to share? Uh…I hate writer’s block!!!
If you could meet any dead person, who would you choose? Any particular reason why? Edgar Allan Poe or Shakespeare. They were brilliant writers.
If the Earth suddenly became uninhabitable, would you rather live under the sea or in space? Space without a doubt. I’ve said in another life, if I wasn’t…I should have been, an astronaut or astronomer. The sea, well, let me just say that that much water surrounding me, I would have a heart attack.
What was your most favorite pastime as a kid? Baseball. I was a tomboy.
If you could live in any time period other than the present, which would you choose and why? Medieval times because there was so much lore, mystery and possibilities of what was considered real and what was folly.
Take us through a typical writing day for you. Do you have anything quirky - like you have to have a certain pen to write with, or the desk laid out in a particular manner, does it need to be raining, do you require a certain food/drink/candy to work by? Will you have an absolute meltdown if the atmosphere isn't what you like? Lol! No. I write where I can, when I can. I’m not picky. I could be in a convenience store line getting a soda and have the next sentence in novel pop in my head, just a sentence, and I can’t wait to get to my car to write it down.
What do you do when you experience that lovely problem called writer's block? Oy vey! There are so many opinions I’ve read over the question of whether or not ‘writer’s block’ truly exists. My answer, of course it does. Sometimes it’s simply because an author can take a story into so many directions and their perplexed on which road to take. Sometimes you can take the road less traveled and hit a dead end and your creativity hits the forsaken spot at the same time. What do I do when that happens? I doodle. Draw. Diagram. Then finally back away and wait (and pray) it’ll come to me. I’d read somewhere that someone described writers block as simply ‘fear.’ The author is afraid to take the story in the direction it needs. I can see that explanation as having merit, because I have felt that before. The most wonderful moment, though, is when I break down that wall of fear and trudge through the rubble determined and exhilarated at the same time.
When you were little, what did you think you'd be when you grew up? I had wanted to be a writer, but was terrified to do so. That nasty culprit ‘fear’ hinged me. Because I believe, writing is a form of extroversion, allowing the reader insights into the writers mind. I was, and had always been, introverted, afraid to open my soul to the world. But once I finally cracked my introverted shell and crawled out…oh how good it felt to write.
If you could live anywhere in the world you'd like, where would that be and why? On a Gaelic countryside in Scotland or Ireland, living in a quaint stone cottage within walking distance of an old gothic castle. It would be such inspiration for my writing.
Do you have a secret obsession you'd be willing to share? Reading. Seriously. I can read three books at a time and finish them in a couple of days (if I have time and they’re not too long).
What food/drink would absolutely devastate you if they stopped production on? Mt. Dew, ugh…even the thought.
If you could step into the shoes of any fictional character for one day, who would it be and why? I don’t want to sound biased here, but it would be my protagonist ‘Faith’ in my Preordained Series. To have her naivety again and be exposed not only to the first feelings of love, but to have ethereal sight and be able to bear witness to the truth of the other side, let alone surrounded by mesmerizing and haunting angels, caught between heaven and hell.
Do you like to listen to music when you read or write? Tell us a few of your favorites. Yes. I love Evanescence and Nyctalgia.
Did you do anything special to celebrate your first book release? I did have a book signing.
Which is your favorite fairytale? Red Riding Hood
Which book are you most looking forward to reading this year? Book of Horrors. I love me some Stephen King and Brian Hodge.
Which do you prefer: ebook, hardback or paperback? It used to be paperback, but love, love, love me some ebooks now.
This or That Underworld or Twilight : Underworld!
Original or Remake : Original
Sweet or Salty : Salty Drama or Comedy : ThrillerFantasy or Romance : FantasySpring or Autumn : Spring
Dirty Dancing or Footloose : Dirty DancingMovie Theatre or Loveseat : Movie TheatreTea or Coffee : CoffeeRain or Sunshine : Both Choose a challenge...if you dare! I used ‘Preordained’and I had to use ‘The Raven-Edgar Allan Poe Mad Lib’
Once upon a midnight lore, while I pondered mysterious and haunting,
Over many a quaint and curious wing of forgotten angels,
While I dreaded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a fright,
As of fates gently rapping, rapping at my nieve door.
`Tis some love,` I muttered, `tapping at my nieve door -
Only this, and nothing more.`

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the deadDecember,
And each separate disheartening ember wrought its passion upon the floor.
Eagerly I questioned the morrow; - knowledge I had sought to borrow
From my soul mates surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the gothic Lenore -
For the exquisite and mysterious maiden whom the angels named Faith -
Nameless here for evermore.

Predestined by Kelly Libsack

Synopsis: Faith’s torn affection between the two angelic brothers, Kort and Seth, is once again tested, and then put aside as an unexpected threat looms. Satan and all of his followers are scrambling to tempt, touch, and invade humanity again; thus, weakening God’s rule and unlocking the chains of…The Irin.

Kort, who is to be of truth and honor, wants to keep Faith in the dark about the ex-archangel hit squad with powers that supersede those of the two angelic brothers in love with her. Seth wants to tell her everything; including the fact that the leader of The Irin, Samyaza, is not only cruel, but takes the virtue of human women to give his angelic powers a boost. And if he can take the virtue of ‘the chosen one,’ he will gain power over all of mankind as well. Well…no more piddly-ass-little-girl crap, Faith’s tired of being the damsel-in-distress, and she’s not about to be any longer. God bestows Faith with some unique weapons against The Irin—useful blessings, for not only does sexuality ooze off Samyaza like rays of light bursting off the sun, his features would buckle any human girl’s knees.
Faith has not been lucky in life. A descendent of Eve, and non-religious herself, she was chosen to decide the winner of a wager between God and Satan. Now the task has passed and she thinks she'll be able to move on with her life. Nope. Nuh-uh. Sorry. She doesn't get much of a break before the angels tell her Satan and his followers have released the Irin, a group of angels created long ago to protect humanity. Sadly, their leader Samyaza fell in love and felt betrayed by one of those humans, and decided it was better to get a quick power boost by taking the virtues of women instead. Now free from the chains that bind him and his Irin followers, he's aimed his sight on Faith, who would not only give him a huge power boost, but claiming her virtue would also pass along the power she has over mankind's fate. Yeah, no pressure there. Luckily, God presents her with a few powers to protect herself than no angel has ever seen before. But will it be enough to stop the advances of the strongest angel out there?

Predestined picks up exactly where Preordained left off. The best thing about this novel is there's no lag in the beginning like the first one. It pulls you in from the start and doesn't let go until the end. Once again, I was in it for the steamy romantic encounters. Bleh heh heh. But the story surprised me and I really liked where it went. Predestined brings the story to a close, but warns of an impending bleak future. I'm unsure if Ms. Libsack will write a third novel for this series but she's definitely left the option to do so.

Preordained by Kelly Libsack

Kelly Libsack

Synopsis: Left alone in this world when her father dies, eighteen-year-old Faith Beshert learns that he took an ancient truth to his grave, a truth that would have explained the history of her bloodline and the role it plays in a wager between God and Satan.

Faith isn't spiritual or religious. In-fact she doesn't believe in any of it. However, when two angels disguised as gorgeous young men enter her life and steal her heart, she's exposed to the existence of the other side and a responsibility she's meant to fulfill.
Faith has spent her entire life on the move thanks to her father. But now with his passing, she's able to sit down in one place long enough to draw the attention of two hot guys. Too bad they turn out to be angels, vying for her loyalty in an ancient wager between God and Satan.
Faith can't believe her luck, or lack thereof. She was raised non-religious by her father, who constantly had her on the move in an attempt to outrun the destiny attached to Faith's bloodline. But no such luck. In a long line of women that began with Eve, Faith has been chosen to decide the winner of this ancient wager. And who better to explain the situation than a hot angel from both sides: Seth, the fallen angel, and Kort, heaven's angel. Faith finds herself drawn to both as they try to persuade her decision in their favor. But even angels lie, and soon Faith finds her life at risk and unsure who to trust to save her life.
I can honestly say that I'm not a real religious person these days, and I rarely read stories with  religious tones. Maybe it's shallow of me, but it was the temptation of two hot angels that made me wanna read this book. And man were they HOT! Steamy. Yummylicious. Especially the naughty angel (yeah, I like the bad boys...sue me!) So much so I didn't even mind that there was a religious story interweaved with the romance. Although I can say I was rather intrigued by the wager pending between God and Satan and the role Faith was expected to play in the outcome. All I can say is if you like steamy, romantic make-out scenes, Preordained will have you fanning yourself. :)
Fair warning: Preordained starts off a little slow, but the action kicks in after a hundred pages and the novel ends with a great bang! So it's definitely worth sticking it out. Also, there are some pretty smokin' hot scenes in this book so I recommend older young adults and up. Happy reading!

Crave by Melissa Darnell (ARC)

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... Crave (The Clann #1)
Melissa Darnell
Pub Date: October 25, 2011

Synopsis: Savannah Colbert has never known why she's so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It's as if he's a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she goes, Savannah fears she's destined to fail.
For years, Tristan has been forbidden to even speak to Savannah Colbert. Then Savannah disappears from school for a week and comes back…different, and suddenly he can't stay away. Boys seem intoxicated just from looking at her. His own family becomes stricter than ever. And Tristan has to fight his own urge to protect her, to be near her no matter the consequences….
Romeo and Juliet had it easy compared to these two...
Savannah and Tristan are descendents from a line of witches called The Clann. When the two were just twelve years old, they had a pretend wedding; the end result: Savannah's family got kicked out of The Clann and Savannah shunned by all their children. Once high school began, Savannah was all but used to their taunts and misbehavior, but the attraction for Tristan still ran deep. When Savannah gets really sick her freshman year, her single mother finally tells her the truth. Her father was not only a vampire, but an incubus, meaning Savannah can draw energy from both blood or a kiss, which is why The Clann freaked out when she kissed Tristan, their leader's son.

Now Savannah's drowning in rules. Stay away from the members of The Clann, whose blood she'll crave most. Never use magic - don't even think about trying to learn on your own. Oh, and yeah, you can never dance again, or play sports, or trully participate in anything  because vampires excel beyond humans abilities with everything they do and you'll only draw attention to their species. Do any of these things and you'll instigate a war between the species. No pressure there...Oh, and members of The Clann and a few vampire watchers are everywhere spying on you just waiting for you to screw this up...but no pressure!

Miserable, Savannah moves forward with her life the best she can, fighting hard to find some enjoyment. The vampires ruined her chances to join the Charmers, the school's drill team, but they wouldn't stop her from becoming one of their managers so long as she promised not to be a backup dancer. But Savannah's slowly becoming her father and his incubus abilities are seeping through. She accidentally gaze-dazes a few boys and sends them into psycho-stalker mode, drawing the attention of Tristan, who still secretly longs for Savannah too. He secretly uses his magic to set them right and decides enough is enough - he'll do whatever it takes to be with her, even if her kiss will slowly drain his life away.

With the way Crave ended, I have a feeling I'm gonna be a little mad at Covet , cause I see the huge freakin' bump in the road for Tristan and Savannah's relationship. And I was really enjoying their secret rendevous. But now that it's out, everyone will be at the brink of war and the two will be ripped apart. But at least I'll still have their dream connection to swoon over. Sigh...

What was your favorite book as a kid? That depends on how far back you want to go. When I was in elementary school, my favorite book was The Phantom Tollbooth. When I was twelve, it was The Outsiders. In fact, that was my introduction to YA.

Tell us your favorite author. Which book is your total fave from that author? Cassandra Clare. City of Bones is my favorite out of all her books.
I can write anywhere. My first short story was written in a bowling alley when my parents were on a league. On a typical day I usually sit at my desk and blast some music in the background. When I am outlining, I sit in a chair somewhere (sometimes even outside) and write in a notebook. I don’t have a particular pen. I have several that I love, a variety of colors and designs.
What do you do when you experience that lovely problem called writer's block? My favorite way to deal with writer’s block is to take a long walk with my dog. I live out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees. A long walk clears my head. Sometimes I work on something else. Other times I will listen to music or read a good book. Sometimes I have to try all of the above before I can get back to my story.
Do you like to listen to music when you read or write? Tell us a few of your favorites. I love to listen to music when I write. Most of the time I listen to a mix on my MP3. Songs include music from Chris Daughtery, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, and numerous others. I even listen to Glee once in a while. When I get stuck and can’t see a scene clearly, sometimes I will find a certain song that sets the mood and listen to it repeatedly. For instance, when I wrote the ‘red dress scene’ in CRUSHED, I was listening to Lady in Red by Simply Red. When I wrote the dance scene in WITCH HUNT, I listened to Billy Idol’s White Wedding because that’s what the characters were listening to.
Did you do anything special to celebrate your first book release? My first book was published by Harlequin in 2002. I threw a huge party at my house, had games that were related to my book, and I even had the cover of my book put on a cake. It was sugar paper. Yummy.
Which book are you most looking forward to reading this year? City of Angels by Cassandra Clare. I bought it but haven’t gotten to it yet.
What books do you have out now?

<A HREF="http://ws.amazon.com/widgets/q?rt=tf_... Widgets</A>I have two series going at once. The Rule Series is about a vampire boy who just wants to go home to his family, return to school, and be normal again. He gets his wish, sort of, and becomes mortal. But being human isn’t as easy as he thought it would be. His girlfriend is a hunter, and the English teacher at the local high school is the head werewolf, the werewolf Jack is destined to kill. As of now, I have two out of three available at Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, etc. VAMPIRES RULE and WEREWOLVES RULE.
The Witch-Game books are about teen witches playing games at school with their powers. In CRUSHED, three sisters blow magical dust into the boys’ faces and command them to do things. Kristen picks the wrong boy and almost dies the same day. Zach has secrets, too. Now she has to figure out if he’s trying to save her or trying to kill her.

There are different characters in each book and a different game to be played. The second book in the series, WITCH HUNT, will be released April 15, 2012.

Synopsis: In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
The Book of Eli meets Alice in Resident Evil-land. Yep...you read it right.
Wow. Um...WOW! I've read the first two Iron Fey books by Julie Kagawa and plan to read the rest, but The Immortal Rules jumps leaps and bounds over that series. Seriously, this book was even better than the Hunger Games.
Allie is an endearing character to watch as she develops through this nightmarish world. She was born in the fringe of a vampire city called New Covington. As an unregistered inhabitant, she doesn't have to give routine blood donations to the vampires, but it also means she has to steal and fend for herself just to keep fed. When she ventures through the tunnels and into the ruins outside the city, she comes across a treasure trove of food in an old bunker basement. Sadly, removing the food doesn't go well, and long story short,  she ends up a vampire. Now on the wrong side of prejudice, even her fellow fringer rifrafs sell her out and she's forced to leave the city. Determined to keep her humanity intact, she travels with a group of humans looking for the safety of a vampire-free city called Eden. Kagawa really takes the time to show Allie's transformation and the hardship of fighting the urge to feed. It was descriptive, raw and lacked a sugar coat; Allie was ready to rip out the throats of children and a guy she was fighting hard not to fall for.

The Immortal Rules is an addictive read. Once Allie becomes a vampire and leaves New Covington, danger lies around every corner, even for a vampire. There's tons of action, a brewing romantic interest between a vamp and a religious boy with a prejudice against vampires, and several story lines come together perfectly in the end and leave you salivating for book two. Buy the hardcopy people, this one gets a permanent spot on the bookshelf for generations to come.
