Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz (ARC)

Cara Lynn Shultz

But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.
Spellbound was a decent read. However, if you pick this up, the storyline and character actions are completely predictable. In spite of that, I was considering giving it four stars because it kept my attention enough to read through it swiftly without any snags or disinterest. That was until I hit 80% in the novel. The last 20% has dropped my rating down to three stars cause I was so disappointed. Emma Conner had been reincarnated several times since the curse was placed on her and her lover, and she's died every time. So I expected something spectacular to try to kill her off in this novel. But alas, the danger presented to Emma that threatened to take her life and exact the curse once again was completely unspectacular. Utter disappointment on that front. I wanted something supernatural and worthy of the curse, not some...well, you'll see. And unfortunately, Emma suddenly became stupid in the end, falling for things she shouldn't have, which was another disappointment cause the author protrayed her as a fairly smart MC up until that point. (Please don't make an MC temporarily dumb...allow a surprise attack if you must, just don't make them a sudden idiot to put them in danger).
I'll read Spellcaster cause I did like the characters, I just hope they'll have more supernatural issues to deal with next time. Pick up Spellbound at the library or used bookstore if you'd like, but don't spend too much money on it. It's worth a read but most likely won't get a permanent spot on the bookshelf.

Hosted by Once Upon a Twilight and Good Choice Reading
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
Today is the RELEASE DAY for YA / New Adult Romance FALLING IN BETWEEN - just in time for the Books With Love Hop. So for this giveaway I'm offering three copies of the ebook to be gifted through Amazon or Barnes and Noble and a bunch of super cute glitter bookmarks. Plenty of chances to win - just fill in the rafflecopters below.
Here's what's up for grabs.

"Heartwrenching and sexy! Loved!" Rebecca A. Rogers, author of Under the Stars and the Silver Moon trilogy "I inhaled this book, absolutely adored it!" Mandy at Twimom101 book blog "I couldn't devour the pages fast enough." Darkfallen at Paranormal Wastelands
Synopsis: Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me…(yeah, that's sarcasm)
Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker's life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.
Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she'd been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it's Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?
Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination.

New Girl by Paige Harbison (ARC)

Paige Harbison
Expected Publication: January 31, 2012

Ever since I arrived at exclusive, prestigious Manderly Academy, that's who I am. New girl. Unknown. But not unnoticed—because of her.
Becca Normandy—that's the name on everyone's lips. The girl whose picture I see everywhere. The girl I can't compare to. I mean, her going missing is the only reason a spot opened up for me at the academy. And everyone stares at me like it's my fault.
Except for Max Holloway—the boy whose name shouldn't be spoken. At least, not by me. Everyone thinks of him as Becca's boyfriend but she's gone, and here I am, replacing her. I wish it were that easy. Sometimes, when I think of Max, I can imagine how Becca's life was so much better than mine could ever be.
And maybe she's still out there, waiting to take it back.
There are technically two new girls in New Girl. One is trouble-maker Becca, who was shoveled off to boarding school by her parents for her junior year. Becca mysteriously goes missing at the end of the year and her spot is replaced by new girl #2 for her senior year, whose name we don't even learn about until the end of the novel. The story switches back and forth between the two girls as they both advance through their respective years, and it's kind of interesting to see how each girl is treated by the student body.
Becca isn't exactly the nicest of people and seems to be the queen of manipulation, but for some reason the entire studen body idolizes her - probably cause she supplies the booze. New Girl #2 is treated like absolute crap the moment she arrives because she looks similar to Becca, took over her spot in school, must room with an absolute bipolar-Becca-loving-freak of a roommate who left Becca's side of the room a freakin' shrine and won't let New Girl #2 dare to make any changes. And it doesn't help that New Girl #2 develops a mutual attraction for the two boys that Becca was playing with.
I want to feel sorry for Becca since she's missing, but it's really hard as the story progresses and she becomes an absolute horror to her boyfriend and his best friend, who she's cheating on him with. New girl #2 I trully do feel sorry for. She's treated like crap by the majority of the student body, particularly by her psycho roommate, mostly because Becca's ex has shown her some attention.
I really dug New Girl. It was refreshing and I flew right through it. Hell, any book that keeps me up all night cause I just gotta know what happens next always gets five stars from me. :)
