30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Sienna and Parker (day 3)
Sienna was ninety-five percent sure that Parker wasn’t coming to the dog park. The summer sun was already setting.
She stood with her friends Rosalee and Micah as they watched their dogs frolic with the few other animals on the premises. Their other friends Charlie and Trevor had begged off for the evening. Charlie was waiting tables tonight at her dad’s restaurant and Trevor had an early morning meeting.
“Is that him?” Rosalee asked.
To her complete surprise, it was Parker fumbling with...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Sienna and Parker (day 2)
On Wednesday morning, Parker strode into the employee break room to find Sienna inside, pouring herself a cup of coffee.
He briefly considered abandoning his quest to refill the mug in his hand. If he backed out of the door slowly, she might not even know he’d been in here.
And then as if she sensed him, she glanced over her shoulder.
He watched as the happy, welcoming light in her eyes faded, as the beginnings of a smile that had been on her lips disappeared.
You should smile more.
He c...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Sienna and Parker
No, no, no.
“Eeyore, no!”
Sienna ran toward the impending disaster but since her Great Dane was about ten times faster than her, she was too late to keep the collision from happening.
The man in Eeyore’s path was mowed down and in almost the same breath, her gray monster was licking his prey’s face with wide swipes of his pink tongue.
“No, buddy.” She grabbed her dog’s collar and pulled, but it was like trying to haul away an elephant.
The man that Eeyore was stepping on let out a grunt...
30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs part 3
Having Jacob in her kitchen was surreal.
His Bolognese sauce was to die for and the lasagna he’d cobbled together was maybe the best she’d ever had.
And beneath the table, he’d nudged his foot right next to hers. Touching without really touching.
“Where’d you learn to cook?” she asked, dragging a chunk of crescent roll through the sauce on her plate.
“Things weren’t so great growing up. My dad was gone a lot and sometimes Mom checked out. There was always money for groceries but someti...

30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs part 2
This had to be a sign.
Donna didn’t believe in signs, but how else could she explain the second flat tire, Gram having an episode with a capital E late in the afternoon and now her hot water heater was kaput. She was a sweaty, stinky mess and she couldn’t take a shower.
She was not dating material right now.
She should never have said yes to Jacob.
They’d been texting off and on since that night at the bar and grill.
He was surprisingly funny. He sent her memes that made her smile. He wa...

30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs part 1
Donna didn’t call Jacob. She didn’t text him either.
She couldn’t help thinking it was one big practical joke at her expense. Maybe his wife really had read her book and left that note. Or maybe he’d found a used copy at somebody’s garage sale and seen the name on the dust jacket.
Loving Amber and then losing her has made me rethink a lot of things. I’d like to be your friend.
She kept his note folded in her pocket for a week straight.
And on a Tuesday when Gram had a particularly hard d...

30 Days of Story: Daisy’s Dilemma
Daisy White née Richards stared out at the landscape, her thoughts whirling. The sun was setting, casting the sky above the wild Wyoming plain in glorious shades of red and purple, but she didn’t see any of it. Not really.
What had she done? What was she going to do now?
From a distance, she heard her husband talking. There was no answer. That meant he was talking to his horse again. Probably as he unsaddled and groomed the animal.
It was one of the things she’d learned about her husban...

30 Days of Story: Meeting Will Jacobs
This was not how she would’ve written this particular chapter in her life.
Donna pressed one hand to her cheek to try and stem the frustrated tears. Too late, she remembered the axle grease. Her hand came away both wet and grease-smeared. She’d probably managed to paint her face like a high school football player.
She wanted to kick the stupid tire, but with her luck, she’d probably knock the little coupe off the jack she’d just spent a half hour fighting with.
Maybe even pin herself und...

30 Days of Story: Lessons in Love part 2 of 2
Six months later
“Mr. Montgomery. Aiden!”
He’d made it out to the sidewalk this time.
Aiden turned to face Miss Penn, who slipped out the studio’s door after him.
It was already muggy on this late May evening, but he felt even hotter under the collar under her intense gaze.
“Their hair was perfect,” he protested. He’d made sure the buns were perfectly centered with no wisps of hair out of place. It’d taken him almost a quarter hour for each twin to get it right.
“I know.” The sun was set...
