30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Charlie & Micah (day 4)

She brought him Gatorade.

On Thursday, two days before the wedding, Micah was still cooling off from his run, pacing in the dog park while Rocket ran amok with a standard poodle when Charlie showed up.

With a coffee and a bottle of Gatorade in hand.

It wasn’t even a big gesture.

But it was thoughtful and it made the lines blur for him. Again. Fiction and reality and what he’d wanted for so long were all blending together and his heart was a tangled, confused mess.

The night he’d helped o...

The Other Princess excerpt

This was never going to work.

Maggie wobbled across the carpeted expanse of her sister’s living room, tilting and twisting on heels that felt like stilts. The palace walls were thick stone and would muffle any sounds she made.

She was no rodeo clown, but she’d probably get some laughs if she tried to wear these heels and pitched hiney over teakettle in front of the photographers who followed her family around any time they stepped foot out of the royal palace.

Muttering words that w...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Charlie & Micah (part 3)

Micah was pretty sure he’d fallen in love tonight.

With Charlie’s Nonna. She was awesome. She ran the restaurant kitchen with an iron fist, but she also laughed at his stupid puns and he could see how much she genuinely loved her granddaughter.

And if what he’d smelled going on in that kitchen was any indication, her recipes were awesome, too.

The restaurant had finally cleared out. It was late and Nonna had insisted he and Charlie take a corner table in the back of the restaurant.

It wa...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Charlie & Micah (day 2)

Five days before the wedding, Charlie knew she’d made a monumental mistake asking Micah to be her pretend date.

Her family’s restaurant was packed and she was bussing a six-top when she noticed him near the hostess stand.

His hands were in his pockets and maybe he meant to look casual, but the trepidation written across his face made it seem like he was facing a firing squad and not the prospect of a few hours with her.

What was his deal?

She knew he’d harbored some kind of crush on her...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Charlie & Micah (day 1)

Dawn was tinging the horizon with silver when Micah turned on to Elm Street.

Three blocks and he would pass the dog park. Rocket seemed to know it. The black lab at his side put on a burst of speed that Micah had to correct.

This late in a nine-mile run? He was gassed.

“We’re not stopping today,” he told the dog.

As he loped, Rocket gave Micah a side-eye glance and with the way his tongue was lolling out of the side of his mouth, it almost seemed like his doggie smile had an overtone of...

30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs (the end)

Donna couldn’t stay at the party and make chit-chat. She didn’t think she could hold it together for even another minute.

“Excuse me,” she mumbled.

She made it to the front door without anyone stopping her.

She was halfway to her car before Jacob called out behind her.

She heard the front door slam, but she didn’t stop.

When she opened the car door, she almost sat on the plate of brownies she’d saved for him.

Stupid.

She was so stupid.

Hot tears blinded her as she reached for the plate.

30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs (part 6)

A month later, Donna had been invited back to game night.

The first time she’d been to Hank’s, she’d been a ball of nerves. Unsure of her welcome. But Hank himself, and Kurt, and Jacob’s other friends had made her feel welcome. Plus, she’d won at cards twice.

This time around, she decided to be brave and go in, instead of waiting for Jacob’s arrival in her car parked at the curb.

After a month of dating Jacob, she’d grown used to the erratic hours of his job. He’d texted her earlier and...

30 Days of Story: Falling for Will Jacobs (part 5)

Was she really going in there?

Donna’s heart was racing as she sat in her car with the engine clicking as it cooled.

No more tire trouble, at least. Jacob had talked her into splurging for all new tires instead of just replacing the one. He had a buddy that worked at the nearest tire store and had gotten her a good deal.

Gram had been on a streak of good days and Molly was staying with her for a few hours. Because Jacob had coerced her into joining him for game night at his brother’s hou...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Sienna and Parker (the end)

One week later, Sienna sat at her cubicle desk. It was after lunch and she was considering clocking out early. It was too hard to concentrate.

To be honest, she was surprised she still had a job. That first Friday after Parker had dismissed her from his office, she’d expected to walk in and be handed a pink slip.

It hadn’t happened, but it didn’t change her expectation.

She’d really stepped in the dog poo when she’d decided to try and be Parker’s friend.

Whatever loneliness or wistfulnes...

30 Days of Story: Dog Park Diaries – Sienna and Parker (day 4)

Midmorning on Friday, a soft knock came on Parker’s already-open office door.

And then Sienna was there, a steaming coffee mug in hand.

“Hey. Brought you this.” She was quick to set it down on the edge of his desk and then backed away a few steps.

But she didn’t leave.

And he found his attitude oddly buoyant even though he’d been staring at an endless scroll of blinding Excel columns only a moment ago.

“Thank you.” He sipped the coffee and then hummed in appreciation. “This is good. How’...
