Faking It

I had a wicked time last week at Now magazine's Fake Bake party - all in the name of research, of course, as I drunkenly observed the celebs and stole some gossipy bits for the book I'm writing. Cheska Hull from Made in Chelsea was absolutely gorgeous, as was Nicola McLean, and Jodie Harsh's wig was so fierce it practically obscured the entire doorway of the mega swanky Southbank venue. Also clocked were Amy Childs, Perez Hilton, Katie Piper and Josie Gibson (best BB contestant ever - fact). Here I am arriving:

 

 

Things didn't stay quite so composed once the champs was in full flow, with the night ending in Soho at 3 a.m., several sambucas later. Look at this poor man being terrorised by the sex scenes in TEMPTATION ISLAND:

 

 

Do you find them just as shocking? (Come on, you know which bit I'm talking about.)

On another note, the sun is out! At last. Hope everyone is enjoying the rays - and at least until the tan's in place, there's always Fake Bake.

trains, planes & bonkbusters

Well, I'm just back from a week of sun, sea and sangria in Spain, and already the TEMPTATION ISLAND adrail posters are out in force! I've had pics of two so far, at Fenchurch St and Vauxhall - check them out below. Are you tempted?

This week has been super-busy with PR for TEMPTATION ISLAND, starting with a BBC Bristol radio interview in which I claimed that the word 'bonkbuster' was 'a good one to get your mouth around' (ahem) and winding up with some fantastic drinks in London with WHSmiths Travel. They're taking TEMPTATION ISLAND as their Deal of the Week starting June 28 so keep an eye out for it in the shops and airports! The promotion coincides with our stunning adrail campaign so we should see a good splash of bonkbuster summer all across the country.

Radio is so much fun! I love speaking to new people and the DJs are always so friendly. There's usually plenty of innuendo and we have a lot of fun with the bonkbuster genre. During this one a well-to-do gentleman read a passage from TEMPTATION ISLAND (apparently they spent ages trying to find one that was suitable for a day-time slot) and that was great. It's weird to hear your words coming out of a stranger's mouth! Here I am at the BBC off Oxford Street:

 

 

I'm jetting off to Spain next week for some sun, sea and cocktails (and just a bit of novel-writing). Already I'm excited about coming back to a second wave of PR fun, including a book signing at Gatwick Airport. Do drop in and say hi!

'The best bonkbuster of 2012'

TEMPTATION ISLAND officially came out last Friday! We celebrated with an 80s themed party that included buckets of Prosecco, pink posters and a one a.m. dance-off between my boyfriend and an equally drunken compadre. I never want to see anything like that again. One of them did THE WORM.

Anyhow, the reviews are in!!! We've had sensational coverage across the board, with the Sun tagging TEMPTATION ISLAND 'the best bonkbuster of 2012'. I'm very excited because this week TEMPTATION ISLAND pops up in not one, not two, but four of my all-time favourite celebrity magazines!

Heat says, 'If you think the Made in Chelsea crew live a glitzy life, you ain't seen nothing yet,' while Closer describes the book as 'just too exciting to put down.' Look out for the pretty pink cocktail of a cover in Now and Star mags, too.

There's also gossip across the board about Cheryl's amazing comeback (LOVE her song) and news that Chantelle Houghton has left Alex Reid because he's dressing as his alter-ego Roxanne again. In fact on the front of Now Alex has got a fake baby bump, like Arnie did in Junior, and is looking pensively off into the middle distance, which is always pleasant to see.

Forbidden Feelings

What do you think of the Norwegian cover for HOLLYWOOD SINNERS? It translates as 'Forbidden Feelings', which, for anyone who's read the book, will make a lot of sense. I love it - glam, palm trees; a longing, lustful look . . . And she looks a bit like Scarlett Johansson, which is no bad thing.

 

 

Which one of you bitches is my mother?

I had some exciting news this week: my brilliant publishers at MIRA have secured a nationwide adrail campaign for TEMPTATION ISLAND, starting on June 28 and running for two weeks. All the big stations will be involved - Euston, London Bridge, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, to name a few! - and we can't wait to see TEMPTATION ISLAND splashed across the country. Hopefully it will get everyone feeling summery and ready to jet off on holiday with their perfect by-the-sea read; I haven't seen the creatives yet but if you're familiar with the cover then you'll know they're likely to look like a hot-pink sparkly Sex on the Beach. Appropriate, because as well as sensational celebrities, outrageous scandal and the most shocking reveal you're likely to read this year, the novel incorporates lots of beaches and, well, lots of sex.

In other news, I've just finished filming my promo vids ahead of publication. This involved going to a load of swanky bars with my sister, ordering Cosmopolitans and chatting to camera about TEMPTATION ISLAND, the inspiration behind the book and why I believe the bonkbuster revival is long overdue. We're editing the videos right now but they should be ready soon. I hate seeing myself on film (doesn't everyone?) but the Cosmos definitely helped. That said my sister spilt hers down us halfway through, confirming when our belongings became caramelised my suspicion that 98% of it was sugar. For the rest of the night I was forced to carry round a sticky tripod, which contrary to popular belief I don't make a habit of doing.

It's the forthcoming reissue of Shirley Conran's classic bonkbuster LACE, which I for one am very excited about. Look at the cover! The glamour! The lips! The jewels! The snakeskin! It's glorious. We need more books like this - exciting, explosive, extraordinary - and with TEMPTATION ISLAND hitting the shops in June, I think this is going to be a positively sizzling summer. The synopsis for LACE begins, 'Which one of you bitches is my mother?' Enough said.

an ideal way to spend a morning

Today I was at the Ideal Home Show talking about TEMPTATION ISLAND and reading an extract from the book. Thanks to everyone who came, it was lovely to meet you all. We had loads of signed editions of HOLLYWOOD SINNERS to give away and I even had another Ms Fox queueing for a copy. Afterwards my publicists and I grabbed a coffee and discussed the merits of outdoor hot tubs (well, it was the Ideal Home Show) and I fantasised about living somewhere where I could have soft furnishings on my garden furniture, like you get in bars abroad, you know the ones where they bring you a little bowl of peanuts with your V&T. 

Book 3 is well on its way. Last week my friend Kate and I had a writers' retreat in the west country and it was brilliant. I'm a big believer in changing your environment when you need to push on and after four days' planning I was ready to begin. Fresh air + no distractions + box of red wine (forget the bottle) makes for my perfect writing week. There's going to be plenty of shocks and scandal in Book 3 and I'll keep you posted with how I get on. For now, though, it's back to PRIDE and AMBITION, my next two shorts coming out in advance of TEMPTATION ISLAND. Let me know what you think of them!
