A Trump supporter pulled a knife on a family with children outside the Manhattan courthouse
NEW YORK — A Donald Trump supporter protesting the Manhattan District Attorney’s investigation of the former president pulled a knife on a family with two young children outside Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday, a court official said.
The man and woman with two children in strollers accidentally hit the Trump supporter while crossing the intersection of Hogan Place and Center Street just after 4 p.m., three bystanders told POLITICO. The protester, who was holding a sign reading “I support Trump, don’t I?” began arguing with the pair before pulling out a roughly 6-inch-long blade and waving it at the family, according to eyewitnesses.
Court officers, who were standing outside the building, rushed in, drew their weapons and ordered the woman to drop the knife, passers-by said. She was arrested without incident.
No one was hurt.
“Court officers were standing on the corner and within 20 seconds they were there and she had dropped the knife,” said a bystander who could not be named due to her job. “The woman yelled ‘Knife, knife,’ and the law officers were on the Trump supporter like Voltron,” the viewer said.
The altercation came after Trump called on his supporters to protest the investigation and predicted ‘potential death and destruction’ if charged with his alleged role in a 2016 silent payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.
So far, meaningful support for Trump has not materialized.
The Trump supporter was the only protester outside the courthouse on Tuesday. The grand jury usually only hears evidence on the case on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Last week, activists demanding that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indict Trump far outnumbered the president’s supporters outside the courthouse.
Police and court officials did not immediately release the protester’s name, age or other personal information.

Did Ryan enjoy the treat? As he put in a reply to Shawn, “Felt pretty guilty biting into Breadpool today.”
The post comes more than a month after the Gossip Girl actress quietly welcomed her fourth child with Ryan, who is also dad to their three daughters James, 7, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3.
Brazil hits 700,000 virus deaths, 2nd highest in the world
The Brazilian government has reported the 700,000th death from COVID-19 in the South American nation, which has the second highest death toll from the virus after the United States.
ByMAURICIO SAVARESE Associated Press
SAO PAULO — The Brazilian government on Tuesday reported the 700,000th death from COVID-19 in the South American country, which has the second highest death toll from the virus after the United States.
Brazilian health experts say most of those who have died of COVID-19 in recent days are unvaccinated or suffering from other debilitating illnesses.
“The vaccine currently available in every health care unit in Brazil could have changed the lives of families who lost loved ones in the pandemic,” the country’s health ministry said.
Health Minister Nisia Trindade has criticized former President Jair Bolsonaro for his handling of the pandemic. Bolsonaro, who fell ill with COVID, then refused to take the coronavirus vaccine and flouted health restrictions.
“We have to look at the past, but at the same time we have to say that the Ministry of Health cannot make the mistake of not coordinating, not taking charge, not treating (the disease). We must be united so that new tragedies do not occur,” Trindade said.
Miguel Lago, executive director of the Brazilian Institute for Health Policy Studies, which advises public health officials, said the figure was a reminder of the country’s obligation to punish those who failed to act against the virus. viruses or sabotaged those who tried.
“There was a direct responsibility of public officials, who could have responded to this in a much better way,” Lago told The Associated Press.

President Biden pushes for assault ban, but GOP leaders remain opposed

President Biden is renewing his call on Congress to ban assault weapons in the wake of the school shooting in Nashville, Tenn., which killed three students and three staff members.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a statement the shooter was “heavily armed with three guns, two of them assault-type weapons.”
“People say, why do I keep saying this if it’s not happening?” Biden said, referring to his frequent appeal for such a ban. “Because I want you to know who isn’t doing it, who isn’t helping, to put pressure on them.”
The Nashville incident is the latest in 130 mass shooting incidents so far this year, according to data from the national Gun Violence Archive.
South Dakota Sen. John Thune, No. 2 in Senate GOP leadership, told reporters Tuesday it’s “premature” to have discussions on potential legislation in the wake of the attack.
“There’s an ongoing investigation and I think we need to let the facts come out,” he said.
Senate chaplain urges for more than “thoughts and prayers”“As a nation, we owe these families more than our prayers. We owe them action,” Biden said Tuesday.
His comments echo remarks from the chaplain of the Senate, Barry Black, who opened Tuesday’s legislative session by imploring lawmakers to take action in the aftermath of the deadly shooting.
“When babies die at a church school, it is time for us to move beyond thoughts and prayers. Remind our lawmakers of the words of the British statesman Edmund Burke: ‘All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.'”

“Lord, when babies die at a church school, it is time for us to move beyond thoughts and prayers,” said Black, who has been the Senate chaplain since 2003. “Remind our lawmakers of the words of the British statesman Edmund Burke: All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who was shot during a congressional baseball practice in 2017, told reporters on Tuesday he gets “really angry when I see people trying to politicize it for their own personal agenda.”
“The first thing in any kind of tragedy that I do is, I pray,” he said. “I pray for the victims, I pray for their families.”
He said Congress could consider tighter school security procedures and mental health resources.
“The first thing [Democrats] talk about is taking guns away from law-abiding citizens, and that’s not the answer,” he said.
A familiar uphill battle in a divided CongressBiden, who has also taken executive action on guns, signed into law last year the first major gun safety legislation passed by Congress in roughly three decades.
The law was the result of bipartisan negotiations after two mass shootings in Buffalo, N.Y., and Uvalde, Texas that happened within two weeks of each other.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act includes incentives for states to pass so-called red flag laws that allow groups to petition courts to remove weapons from people deemed a threat to themselves or others.
The bill also expands background checks on people ages 18-21 and closes the so-called “boyfriend loophole” with a law that prevents people convicted of domestic abuse from owning a gun. The legislation expanded that to include dating partners, rather than just spouses and former spouses.
Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who was a lead negotiator on that bipartisan gun deal, said Tuesday the focus in the Senate has been on background checks, to prevent those with mental health problems or criminal records from purchasing or possessing firearms.
“That is the area where we’ve had bipartisan consensus,” he told reporters.
“The only thing I hear the administration arguing for is an assault weapons ban, which would mean, I suppose that the 16 million people who own semiautomatic rifles would have to give those up — they’d be confiscated,” Cornyn said.
“I don’t know what other purpose would be served,” he said, adding: “If there’s something that can be done while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens, I’m certainly open to talking about it.”
But Cornyn said there weren’t any talks with the bipartisan Senate group that crafted last year’s package that the president signed, and he cautioned it was too early to know specific details about the shooting in Nashville to propose a specific legislative response.
An assault-style weapons ban doesn’t have a political future in the Republican-controlled House or in the Senate, where Democrats have a very narrow majority.
Cornyn said the enhanced background checks of the 2022 legislation is “actually working pretty well.”
“The director of the FBI has told us that the national criminal background check system already has stopped the sale of about 100 different gun transactions to juveniles or people purchasing with juvenile records showing they’re disqualified by virtue of mental illness or crime,” he said.
House Democrats discussed efforts to increase pressure for legislative action at their weekly caucus meeting TuesdayAccording to a source present in the meeting, leaders urged members to continue pressing House GOP leaders to take up gun control measures.
South Carolina Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn is reintroducing his bill to close the so-called “Charleston loophole” that allows the sale of a gun even when background check isn’t complete.
A group of Democrats — Reps. David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Lucy McBath of Georgia, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and Jerry Nadler of New York — are calling on House Speaker McCarthy to schedule a vote on the assault weapons ban that passed the House last year.
“Children should not have to fear for their lives or plan for how to defend themselves against shooters armed with assault rifles. They should not have to plan to play dead, or practice locking themselves in bulletproof rooms, or listen for loud bangs in their hallways,” the letter reads. “Teenage survivors shouldn’t have to lobby lawmakers to pass commonsense legislation, or demand action in the streets of Washington or the halls of the Capitol. This is not their job. It’s ours. And we have failed.”

After cleansing your face, it’s time to tone your skin. This toner has ingredients that soothe and exfoliate the skin in addition to unclogging pores, per the brand.
A fan of this toner said, “The best thing I have ever done for my skin. I have absolutely NO visible pores, my dark spots have lightened up SIGNIFICANTLY, and for the first time in forever, I actually have a smooth glow to my skin and feel confident enough to be seen without full coverage foundation.”
Another reviewed, “Truly results after one use. My skin is oily, sensitive, and acne-prone. I have many closed comedones and do get cysts from time to time especially along my jawline. After first using it, the next day I saw a major improvement in my skin. Less oily, the blackheads were disappearing, and overall balanced skin. After using it for approx 2-3 weeks now, I have noticed my closed comedones have lessened, I can’t remember the last time I had a cyst, and I have very few (if any) blackheads. So far no more whiteheads, either. Definitely will be a must-have for me.”
Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul complete for now, thanks to organized work
Months of political turmoil in Israel over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposed judicial overhaul were granted a reprieve on Monday. Netanyahu announced he would delay judicial changes, which sought to give Israel’s parliament the power to overturn Supreme Court rulings.
But it’s not just a victory for the hundreds of thousands of Israelis from all walks of life who have taken to the streets for 12 long weeks to voice their opposition. This is a huge victory for the unions, as Netanyahu’s hand was forced by a massive and historic strike.
On Sunday, the Histadrut, the Israeli labor federation I work for, took the almost unprecedented step of calling a nationwide, cross-industry general strike. Histadrut Chairman Arnon Bar-David appealed to the people of Israel, urging them to unite across political lines to restore sanity and a sense of common purpose to our country. Bar-David expressed deep concern over the divisions that have torn Israeli society apart and the descent into madness he fears.
Standing in the conference room, I saw people from all corners of Israeli society. It brought tears to my eyes. Businessmen and women, employers, workers’ representatives, leaders of workers’ committees and trade unionists gathered under the roof of the Histadrut headquarters with a common mission. People in other circumstances usually sit on opposite sides of the table and compete. Not this time.

Bar-David’s call for unity and cooperation was not only noble but also urgent: Israel stands at a critical moment in its history, and the challenges it faces demand a united response.
This is why we have collectively called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to be the leader of all Israelis, regardless of political affiliation.
Our call has been heard, at least for now.

The strike we called was not a strike against the state but a strike For the state. It was a bold and necessary step to end the madness that threatens to consume Israel as we know it today. It was a call to action that all Israelis must heed if they want to save their country from the abyss.
Before becoming a trade unionist, I served for 25 years in IDF conflicts and crises. My service remains a poignant reminder of the sacrifices many brothers and sisters made for Israel’s independence. Many others like me, reservists from elite units, joined the protests, in an act as patriotic as their service.
It is undeniable now that the fate of the country is in the hands of its citizens, and we must work together to ensure a bright and peaceful future for ourselves and future generations. As we head into our 75th Independence Day, we need to figure out what our vision will be for the next 75 years.
Our call has been heard by all Israelis. Workers, worker representatives, public servants and businesses have all sent a clear message to Netanyahu: it is time to put political differences aside and work together for the greater good of our country.
So far it has worked.
The strike was a bold and necessary step to end the madness that threatens to consume Israel. Organized work has never been more important.
We are proud to end the strike, given its success. We will not hesitate to strike again unless our elected leaders and Prime Minister Netanyahu stand up for our workers, our people and our country.

Manchester United and Chelsea target Victor Osimhen spoke to Arsene Wenger aged 18 but Napoli star rejected Arsenal transfer
Victor Osimhen has revealed he was given the opportunity to sign for Arsenal when he was 18.
This season, the Napoli striker has established himself as one of the best talents in European football.

Wenger spoke to the striker, but could not seal his move to Arsenal
Osimhen has scored 25 goals in 29 games in all competitions, including 21 in Serie A.
His prolific record up front guides them to their first league title since 1990, with Napoli 19 points clear at the top of the table.
Osimhen signed for Wolfsburg aged 18 but held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger before the move.
“I spoke with Arsene Wenger and he wanted me to come to Arsenal but it was not the best option at the time,” he told Center objectives.
The Nigeria international failed to make an impact at Wolfsburg and signed for Belgian club Charleroi on loan, before moving to Lille in 2019.
He spent just one season at the Ligue 1 club, with Napoli signing him in a club registration deal that potentially stands at around £70million with add-ons.

Following his performances, Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in a potential transfer this summer.

He is attracting transfer interest from two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs
However, Napoli won’t accept any offers lower than £150million, with the 24-year-old set to become a hot property in the coming months.
His current deal at the club doesn’t expire until 2025 either, so a hefty fee will have to be paid to secure his services.
However, a move to the Premier League would allow him to show his full potential against an Arsenal side he once shunned.

The unfortunate Biden joked and played politics after the Nashville shooting

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said Monday on FNC’s “The Story” that President Joe Biden was “unfortunately” joking and playing politics after six people were killed in a mass shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville.
Before commenting on the shooting at a White House event, Biden said, “I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. By the way, I have a whole fridge full upstairs.
Christie said: “To say he misunderstood the moment would be an understatement. You know, the president is watching, you hope before he gets there, the horrific scenes of the shooting and the reactions of the family members and friends of the people at that school and coming in, joking about the fact that he’s Jill Biden’s husband and looking for chocolate chip ice cream isn’t the right way to start. There’s no way to talk about something like this except to say that for all of us who are parents, what we dread every day is news about the health and lives of our children. So there is no joking in this circumstance. Certainly not the President of the United States.
Regarding Biden’s call for an assault weapons ban, Christie said, “It’s not about playing politics, and unfortunately the second worst thing about making a joke on a day like today is to play politics with. Unfortunately, that is exactly what the president did. He went back to the old playbook.”

Natalie Portman Shares How She Talks to Her Kids About Injustice

Natalie Portman‘s passion for social justice extends inside her home, too.
The Black Swan actress exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker how she talks to her children about equality, noting that she has those conversations with both her 6-year-old daughter Amalia Millepied and 12-year-old son Aleph Millepied.
“I think it’s equally important to have this approach towards people as equals—that men and women shouldn’t be treated differently and certainly not in the workplace,” Natalie, who shares her kids with husband Benjamin Millepied, said at Angel City FC’s season opener March 26. “Women deserved to be valued for their work and compensated for their work in the same way that men do and invested in, as well.”
And the Oscar winner embraces that mentality in her everyday life as co-founder of women’s soccer team Angel City FC, which will be the subject of HBO docuseries Angel City, out this May. The team—which features Christen Press and Sydney Leroux on the lineup—is entering their second season in the National Women’s Soccer League this year.
At least 16 people were killed in a landslide in central Ecuador

QUITO, Ecuador — A massive landslide swept over an Andean community in central Ecuador, burying dozens of homes and killing at least 16 people as rescuers frantically searched for survivors, authorities said Monday.
Ecuador’s Risk Management Secretariat said 16 people were injured and seven remained missing hours after the landslide Sunday in Alausí, about 137 miles (220 kilometers) south of the capital, Quito. The agency estimated that 500 people and 163 homes were affected by the disaster, which also destroyed a portion of the Pan-American Highway.
The governor of Chimborazo, Ivan Vinueza, told The Associated Press that some of the injured were taken to area hospitals. Authorities initially issued an evacuation order due to the imminent risk of new landslides, but they lifted it a few hours later.
Area residents told local media they heard tremors on the mountain before the landslide, which is estimated to be about 150 meters (490 feet) wide and 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) long. It dragged trees, homes and other buildings.

Firefighters from half a dozen cities were dispatched to the area to help. More than a dozen rescuers stood at the edge of the landslide as they worked to remove debris.
Video from cameras connected to country’s emergency service network shows residents fleeing their homes with help from neighbors. It also shows people transporting appliances and other belongings in vehicles.
The emergency response agency said 60% of potable water service in the area was affected by the landslide. The communication’s office of President Guillermo Lasso said a shelter had been set up and some schools would be switching to online classes.
