Huawei plans to grow 9% this year to 89.4 billion euros
The Chinese technology manufacturer records its highest revenue figure in three years.
Huawei expects to close 2023 with its best revenue figure in three years. The Chinese manufacturer, which has suffered in recent years the consequences of the trade veto imposed by the United States, plans to increase its turnover this year by 9% to exceed 700,000 million yuan, around 89,400 million euros at the exchange rate. Huawei has not yet revealed its profit estimate.
“After years of hard work, we have been able to weather the storm. We are back on track,” the company’s president, Ken Hu, said today in an internal statement, in which he underlines that the company has been able “to break the siege”, in clear reference to the sanctions imposed by Washington in 2019. The export controls imposed by the US have prevented Huawei from accessing advanced chips and other technologies.
Huawei is approaching double-digit growth again, but even so, the expected revenue figure is lower than the billing record it achieved in 2020, the year in which it recorded revenue of 891.368 million yuan.
Hu has pointed out that the consumer business, where its smartphone offering is integrated, has exceeded expectations. In fact, the company already reported in August that this business had recovered growth, something that had not happened since 2020.
The company has surprised the market after launching this year a high-end mobile phone, the Mate 60 , with an advanced processor manufactured in China, which has been a sales success in the country. As recently revealed by the Financial Times , Huawei and the manufacturer SMIC, with the support of the Chinese Government, invested large resources in the project to manufacture a cutting-edge processor, circumventing the veto imposed by the US.
Media times: Please ignore your screen time
You’re slowly running out of small talk topics. Weather? May accidentally lead to controversial debates with Aunt Erna about the climate crisis. The train? Bad topic when the nice party guest turns out to be a confident SUV driver. It’s good that there is one thing that you can complain about without conflict and that still supports a twenty-minute conversation: the excessive use of smartphones. A short anecdotal summary of one’s own TikTok consumption is enough and the other person tells me in detail about his screen time statistics, which he receives weekly from Apple or Google – garnished with the information that the usage time is already frightening and that one urgently needs to pay attention to it .
TenneT joins forces with scale-up that has developed a grid congestion predictor
Introduction
To solve the problem of overcrowded electricity grids, TenneT and the other grid operators are working on a wide range of solutions. We wrote an extensive article about this earlier this year. These solutions are mainly focused on the long term. However, it is also important that TenneT can make better use of the existing network infrastructure.
In order to get new ideas about this as quickly as possible, TenneT came up with an initiative earlier this year to have other parties come up with innovative solutions. This provided the network operator with 57 entries. Three of these were chosen for the ‘final’, where it was possible to scale up for two months and the solutions were extensively tested.
TenneT has now decided to enter into a long-term partnership with one of these parties, N-SIDE. The grid operator states that the solution of this Walloon scale-up is already so concrete that it can be applied relatively quickly (within two to three years) and easily in practice. Hardware Info talked to N-Side about this promising solution.

Prices of mainstream Intel Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs spotted at Spanish store
In the run-up to the introduction of Intel’s fourteenth generation of mainstream desktop processors, several models have already appeared at a Spanish retailer. For example, Twitterer Momomo_us has spotted nine new SKUs at Coolmod. However, at the time of writing, they cannot yet be ordered.
The lack of the K suffix indicates that the CPUs cannot overclock.
Specifically, this concerns the Core i9-14900(F), Core i7-14700(F), Core i5-14500, i5-14400(F) and the Core i3-14100(F). The webshop also has the existing thirteenth generation models in its range, making it possible to make a comparison. Depending on the exact sku, the prices of the new models are between 9 (i5-14400) and 65 euros (i9-14900) cheaper. The i3-14100F is the only processor that has the same price as its predecessor.

In addition, the i5-14500 has the same price as the 14400, while the former offers a higher clock speed and more cores. Intel is expected to unveil this product line on January 8, along with the fourteenth generation HX chips for laptops. These may be the last models to use the Core i designation, as the recently introduced Meteor Lake CPUs use the Core Ultra brand.

Crazy or genius? Programmer uses diagonally positioned monitor for “perfect” setup
There are different opinions about the ideal monitor setup, both for gaming and professional use. Are you going for one large or small screen – which may or may not be positioned vertically – or multiple screens that are placed on or next to each other? Xssfox, a programmer based in Melbourne, Australia, has explored a striking new variable.
For example, Xssfox started working with Linux to find the optimal diagonal arrangement for programming work. The advantage of this os is the ability to rotate the image in small steps. Windows and MacOS users are limited to 90° increments. To adjust the output of the display, the hobbyist used xrandr, a tool that allows precise rotations.
On the Xssfox blog you can find a calculator that can be used to generate the necessary commands for xrandr.
The tests were carried out with an ultrawide from Dell. The exact size is not mentioned, it is probably a 34-inch model. After trying a few configurations, Xssfox ultimately determined that a 22° angle is the best orientation for software development. This angle offers the longest line lengths for code, although the programmer does indicate that the webcam is starting to slip due to the steep slope.

Nvidia RTX 4090 D official: slightly weaker RTX 4090 for Chinese market with the same MSRP
About a month after the first rumors surfaced, Nvidia officially announced the RTX 4090 D. By slightly reducing the specifications, the ‘Dragon’ must comply with stricter American export regulations regarding AI. As a result, unlike the regular RTX 4090, it can be sold in China.
For example, the RTX 4090 D has 14,592 cuda cores and 456 Tensor cores on board, which in both cases is 11% less than the RTX 4090. The base clock speed has been increased by 45 MHz (2,280 MHz), the boost clock of 2,520 MHz is identical . The memory configuration has also remained the same: 24 GB gddr6x and a 384-bit bus. The TGP is 425 watts, 25 W less than the RTX 4090. Furthermore, it looks like there will be no Founders Edition and that it will not be possible to overclock.

Apple can sell its watches again in the United States
Two high-end models of the Apple Watch will be able to go on sale again in the US after a federal court has temporarily lifted the suspension of their sales ordered by the International Trade Commission due to a patent dispute.
The federal agency, the International Trade Commission (ITC), ordered the suspension of sales of its Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches in October to prevent Apple from using specific technologies that support an oxygen measurement system. in blood
The apple company has been involved in an intellectual property dispute with the medical technology company Masimo over these technologies.
Apple stopped selling its watches online in the United States last week, a few days before the Christmas holidays, to comply with the ITC ruling. The court’s action will allow sales of the two aforementioned Apple Watch models pending its decision while weighing Apple’s appeal.
The two watch models will be available in Apple’s online store today, Thursday at noon , according to the company. Although they will return to some Apple stores on Wednesday and greater availability is expected for Saturday.
Patent problemsThis isn’t the first patent hurdle the Apple Watch has faced as the company transforms its watches into health management devices.
Last year, the ITC ruled that Apple had infringed on AliveCor’s wearable EKG technology, a decision the Biden administration refused to overturn. That dispute hasn’t directly affected Apple Watch sales yet because another regulatory body ruled that AliveCor’s technology is not patentable. The legal dispute over that issue still continues.
The patent issues Apple is facing as it tries to introduce more medical technology into its watch models make it increasingly likely that the company will have to start working on licensing deals or simply acquire new companies specializing in the field, Dan predicted. Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities.
CCOO questions Telefónica's ERE and sows doubts about the agreement
Less than a week has been enough for the first uncertainties to arise regarding the pre-agreement between Telefónica and unions in relation to the ERE proposed by the company and which is conditional on the signing of the next telecom collective agreement.
On December 21, the company and unions – including CCOO – gave their provisional approval to the ERE proposed by the firm , reducing the total impact from the initial 5,124 people to 3,421 workers (2,958 departures in Telefónica Spain, 397 in T

New power supplies and cabinets with smart cable management at FSP
FSP is perhaps not the best known name in the computer power supply market in our market. Earlier this month, Hardware Info visited the brand in Taiwan to hear about the latest developments.
The company not only sells power supplies under its own brand, but as an OEM it is also responsible for many power supplies sold under other brands. You often do not see the original brand. In addition to power supplies, it also markets cabinets. In addition, the company expects to launch its first processor coolers on the market in 2024.
Who is FSP?The head office is located in Taiwan, where part of the production is also located. It has a lot of equipment for product development. This makes it a leader and is even able to carry out certification tests, with which it can bring products to the market.
In addition to PC power supplies, it also offers UPS systems and is increasingly focusing on sustainable energy. For the latter segment, it offers storage systems and inverters for solar panels.
In addition to manufacturing in Taiwan, it also has factories in China and Vietnam. The company is one of the founders of the PC power supply industry and launched the first power supply according to the then brand new ATX standard on the market in 1993.
Other company milestones include the first power supply with a silent 12cm fan, and the first redundant power supply in PC format. It also launched a water-cooled power supply in 2017. The ATX standard has continued to develop and we are now back to version 3.1 of the standard.
The brand is marketing more and more products under its own name. In addition to computer power supplies, it also offers cabinets and also wants to claim a position in the cooler market.
The line-up of power supplies is very extensive, but will be completely redesigned before 2024. Even at FSP they admit that the naming is not very clear. That is why the program is being adjusted. Simple systems can be equipped with an affordable and simple Vita. The Advan series is intended for standard use, high-end users can go to the Mega and Dagger models.
Using the letters in the product name you can see whether a power supply is equipped with fixed or modular cabling.
The absolute high-end is the new Cannon Pro, which offers a total power of 2,500W. Thanks to the six PCI Express connections, this model is suitable for controlling multiple high-end video cards.
FSP is also launching a number of new cabinets on the market. The CUT593P stands out because of the smart cabling system and the removable, magnetic front.
The cheaper CUT593 follows this design, but is supplied without pre-mounted extension cables.
The CMT580 is an entry-level model with fewer luxurious features, but does have two 12cm fans on board as standard.
