Steel-Cut Oat Sausage Crumbles From OATrageous Oatmeals

Steel-Cut Oat Sausage Crumbles From OATrageous Oatmeals

I want to share one of my most used recipes from OATrageous Oatmeals. These oat sausage crumbles are made with steel-cut oats and spices. They are gluten-free if you use gluten-free oats and naturally soy-free, nut-free and has no added oil. Almost anyone can eat them!

I love sausage spices and each one of my books have a unique vegan sausage recipe. In this one, you mix the cooked oats with the spices, then you spread the mixture out on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You...

Homemade Blueberry Thyme Syrup for Vegan Cocktails and Mocktails Too!

Homemade Blueberry Thyme Syrup for Vegan Cocktails and Mocktails Too!

It’s that time of the year! What time? Cocktail and mocktail time I say! It’s hot and I’m working a ton, so when I stop for the day I want a special drink. That could be with or without alcohol, as long as it’s refreshing and bursting with flavor.

When it’s hot like this I cannot get enough ice into my drinks, and I love crushed ice. If you can get your hands on some or make it in your blender, I think it dresses this up even more!

Don’t you just love my vintage Libbey glass? Well, I’ve open...

I think most of you are familiar with my friend, Celine Steen, author of the blog Have Cake Will Travel. She started writing cookbooks before me and is an amazing photographer. I’ve reviewed some of her other books, and you can peek at those here.

Celine Steen has written an awesome new vegan cookbook, Bold Flavored Vegan Cooking. She worked with Page Street Publishing for the first time, and I think the book is just what you need to spice up your summer meals.

All Natural Carrot Dogs from The Easy Vegan Cookbook

All Natural Carrot Dogs from The Easy Vegan Cookbook | HealthySlowCooking.com

I love carrot dogs so much that I had to include them in my book, The Easy Vegan Cookbook!

This is the time of the year that I start inviting people over for a light dinner on the deck with a few cocktails and mocktails. These dogs are on my list to make this weekend, so I wanted to give you my updated recipe in case you want to make some too.

What’s a carrot dog? It’s more than a steamed carrot in a bun. You marinade the mostly cooked carrots in a mixture of vinegar, se...

Pineapple Mint Agua Fresca

Pineapple Mint Agua Fresca

Agua Fresca is a traditional Latin American drink made of fruit, water, and a sweetener. It reminds me of the sweet and fruity drinks I had as a kid, only agua fresas are made with the real thing!

With my agua fresca, I skipped the sweetener and used mint to add a hint a sweetness instead. You can use the sweetener of your choice, to taste if yours still tastes too tart for you.

<!--It's been a gorgeous weekend here in Durham. Today I'm sitting on the deck listening to the breeze while I'm writing this. It's been a few fast-paced months for me and I am finally getting a little relaxation in. Cheryl went camping so I had the whole house to myself this weekend which is a treat for me. The tv has been off and I've managed to sleep in and I think I'm back on track again. Yay! Yesterday, I repotted some herbs and had a great talk about branding with Sabrina, of </a>

Quick and Easy Weeknight Vegan Skillet: Cauliflower Rice and Black Beans with Kale

Quick and Easy Weeknight Vegan Skillet: Cauliflower Rice and Black Beans with Kale

Some weeks just wear me out. At the end of the day lately, I don’t want to think about cutting up more veggies and cooking an involved recipe for dinner. Today’s Quick and Easy Weeknight Vegan Skillet Meal is the solution to being too busy to cook.

Please note that this post was sponsored by Green Giant but all opinions and the recipe are my own.

The base of my recipe today is Green Giant Riced Cauliflower & Sweet Potato blend. I love that I can stash a few bags in my freezer and that there...

Zucchini Noodle Salad with Moroccan Chickpeas from Nourishing Noodles

I love Chris Anca’s new book, Nourishing Noodles, partly because it uses one of my favorite kitchen tools, the spiralizer! The recipe I’m sharing today for the Zucchini Noodle Salad with Moroccan Chickpeas is an amazing addition to your summer meal rotation and makes a darn good lunch too.

Be sure to check out Chris’ blog, Tales of a Kitchen for more great recipes. I’ll be sharing at least one more recipe from the book this summer.

Vegan Strawberry Shortcake for Everyone!

What’s not to love about a vegan strawberry shortcake? This recipe takes a little extra time because you’re making it from scratch but this recipe is worth it and uses aquafaba. Before you know it my vegan strawberry shortcake recipe will be your go-to all summer long.

I love to tinker with recipes and it drives Cheryl crazy.  It’s just my nature to change things up each time. That’s why I made an out of the box Lavender Gin Strawberry Shortcake inste...

Lemon Balm Mint Blueberry Smoothie

Lemon Balm Mint Blueberry Smoothie | HealthySlowCooking.com

Why Fresh Mint in My Smoothies?

I bought some new varieties of mint from the Raleigh farmer’s market last week. There’s always a huge selection with multiple vendors selling herb plants and they are so easy to grow in a container.

Trying different mint varieties with my smoothies is always fun and educational. I find that the mint adds a slight sweetness and covers some of the bitterness in the greens. They come in some many varieties like orange mint, lime mint, mojito mint, and I’ve even s...
