Black Dorn on WIP It Up Wednesday #WIPITUPWEDNESDAY

Welcome to Erotic Notions and WIP It Up Wednesday. This snippet is a continuation from my erotic medieval romance - Black Dorn. Set Up – Branwyn goes to her first class.
(for those who haven't started at the beginning with this – Duna means instructor – so Duna Trea is Branwyn's instructor. A Dune is one who is to be instructed. Branwyn is a Dune. Gon means King and lastly Gon Dra means Heir to the Throne.)
Leah offered a towel and a fresh change of clothing. She brushed Branwyn's long, wet hair and placed it in braids, and let it hang down her back. When she was ready, Branwyn followed Leah to Duna Trea’s to begin her instruction. The room was dark as Branwyn entered and she stood still a moment waiting for her eyes to adjust. Duna Trea stood next to a large mound of pillows and a recumbent Gon-dra Malack. She signaled Branwyn to approach, but to be quiet. "These wounds are old and should have been tended to." She knelt next to the soldier to unlace and open his upper garments. "I should have seen these upon your arrival last night." A small smile crossed his lips. "Only you, Duna Trea, would have the mettle to scold me as my mother once did. As I trust no one, but you to heal me, as the wounds did not kill me, they could wait." His head dropped back and rested on a pillow as his voice grew sleepy. "I was tired last night and wanted nothing but to find my bed. But I had to greet my parents and when the others arrived, I had to see that my men and horses were settled, then I could stand no more. Duncan offered me mulled wine. I do not remember if I drank it." "The battles went well." "The Gon owns many new lands. The men we fought were like children. They possessed no strength. No cunning. They feared us. I left my younger brothers, Nalar and Pettra, to rule and protect Uplands until I return." Duna Trea dabbed healing paste on his shoulders and chest, then rubbed the mixture into his skin. "And how are the women in these new lands?" "Bah. As weak as their men. So fragile, I would break them in bed." "Rest your eyes and your head. Let my herbs soothe you and make you sleep so you will be strong." Duna Trea massaged his chest, arms and neck, not resting until he was in a deep sleep. "There now, he will rest. Dune Branwyn, please come sit over here. Did you rest well?" "Most wonderfully, Duna Trea. And you?""Excellent. Now we begin your first and most important lesson - tragor."

Character Interview with Heather Parnell:
1) Thanks for sitting down with me today. Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born Heather MacGibbon in Jamaica to Scottish parents. My mother was a practicing witch, and Da thought it best to get her away from Scotland. When Da died, I was forced to marry an odious, greedy Englishman, Roger Parnell.
2) I understand you have some kind of special power. Can you tell us about it?
I have some talent for spell casting, inherited from my mother.
3) Did you have special education or training to hone your power?
Ma started to teach me about witchcraft when I was little, but she died before I was fully trained. My spells sometimes go awry. Also, I sometime hear voices in my head. I think they are messages from the Great Goddess.
4) Do you consider your power a gift or a curse? Why?
’Tis a mixed blessing, for certain. My spells work, but sometimes come with unintended consequences. Like when I performed a banishing spell to rid myself of Roger and ended up getting marooned on a deserted isle with a sexy pirate.
5) How does having this power complicate your life?
Superstitious people are afeared of witches, so I try to keep my abilities to myself as much as possible.
6) If you could swap your power for another one, what would it be?
There are other powers? I know naught of them. Nay, I am content to be a witch.
7) What does your lover think of your abilities?
Adam loves me in spite of my powers, but I’m hoping to show that they can be used for good. I’m working on a spell to summon the wind when our ship is becalmed.
Excerpt: R-rated
Adam stood, walked around the desk and reached for her hands. "What an extraordinary tale."
She laughed, a little hysterically. "It is, is it not? And now even more so since I have been captured by pirates."
"Most well-bred ladies would have fainted by now. I applaud your courage and resourcefulness."
Heather stood to face him, her hand still in his. "I am made of sterner stuff than most ladies."
"I see that. There is, perhaps, one solution to this dilemma. I could claim you as my share-and-a-half from the Sea Rover." He let go of her hands and pulled her to him, one arm around her waist. His other hand grabbed hold of her hair and tugged her head back. She looked up into his face and saw that his eyes were green flecked with gold. They glittered with desire.
Her hands were pressed to his warm chest and her stomach against his groin. She felt his hard shaft and a strange warmth crept over her body. It spoke of anticipation and need. What was wrong with her? She should be repelled and disgusted by his touch. But she was not. Giving her head a quick shake, she forced herself to think logically. "Your share-and-a-half? What does that mean?"
"When a ship is captured, the quartermaster catalogs the goods on board, then it is divided evenly among the crew. The captain receives a share-and-a-half. You would be mine."
He is the one. The words rang through her mind.
"What would you do with me?" she asked, her voice suddenly husky.
"I know what I'd like to do," he said, as his mouth descended.
His lips touched hers, lightly at first, then with more insistence. She waited for the revulsion, but it never came. Instead a languorous warmth spread through her.
"Open your mouth," he murmured against her lips.
"Why?" she asked, just before his mouth closed on her lower lip, sucking on it gently. She gave herself up to his expert kisses, not even objecting when his tongue stole inside her mouth.
Her hands roamed over his chest, enjoying the feel of warm skin and firm muscle. When her fingers grazed one flat male nipple, he groaned low in his throat. Ah, she had found one way to pleasure him. She brushed his nipples with the pads of her fingers, feeling the tips harden, then lightly scored her nails over them.
He sucked in a breath and broke the kiss. "Tease me, will you?"
She smiled and boldly rubbed his nipples again. Even through her sensual haze, she was aware that her future might depend on pleasing this man, in any way possible...
She slid her arms up his chest and pulled his head to hers for another kiss. He responded with an ardor that stole her breath away. His lips were firm and moist, his flesh hard and smooth. Touching him, kissing him, was a pleasure. This was so unlike what she'd experienced on her wedding night, and she now knew how badly she'd been cheated.
He moved one hand to her bum again, kneading her flesh, pressing her closer to his hard shaft. The muscles in her groin tensed with need, and she knew making love with Adam would be pleasure, not pain. His other hand unbuttoned her waistcoat and caressed her bosom.
"Damn," he murmured against her lips. "You bound your breasts."
"I had to," she whispered back.
His response was to unbutton her breeches and push them down around her ankles. His hands delved beneath the hem of her shirt, lightly caressing the sensitive flesh on her thighs, then her bottom. She gasped when his hand brushed her stomach, then moved to cup the pulsing mound of her sex. His fingers parted the folds of flesh and traced her slit, now damp with her own juices.
He probed her opening with the tip of one finger. "You're so hot, and so tight. Like a virgin."
"Not a virgin," she whispered.
"Spread your legs, love," he growled, removing his finger.

Always, Cowboy by Allison MerrittBlurb:The past is better left behind, unless it offers a brighter future.Brody Longtree's first love was bull riding, but he loved beauty queen Libby Dempsey equally as hard. When she turned down his marriage proposal, everything from his rodeo career to his love life went to hell. His love ran too deep for blame, so he made the best of what life threw at him. Things finally get back on track...and then she almost runs over his dog. When her pageant dreams died in an embarrassing display of nerves, Libby made a new, cowboy-free life for herself. One where she could train other girls who want to be pageant princesses. One that doesn't give her any reason to dwell on what might have been with Brody until his dog bounds into her heart. And she bounds into Brody's bed.Despite the differences in their lives, they mesh together, the way Brody always knew they would. No matter what, he's waiting until he's certain Libby is ready to get married before he asks again, but their relationship comes under fire when one of her friends reveals a secret about a little girl Libby is awfully attached to—a girl who's the right age to be Brody's daughter.Excerpt:Under that snap front western shirt, did he still sport six-pack abs? She couldn't count the number of times she'd helped him out of a similar shirt and put ice on his bruises after a ride. Or how often they'd parked at the lake and explored one another under the stars.“Hot?” Brody asked.“What?”“You're flushed. We could go sit in the stands, maybe catch a breeze.”“Yeah, I guess.”“Can I ask you something, Lib?” Brody rose. His dark eyes were serious and a few lines bracketed his mouth. “Why'd you come tonight?”Libby swallowed hard. “You asked me.”“Really?”“I only live an hour away and I didn't have anything else to do tonight.” Tell him you miss him.“You used to be more honest.” He slipped his hand around her wrist. “You missed me.”“I—” Electricity buzzed through her from his touch. “Maybe a little.”“Maybe a lot.” He pulled her into his arms. “You wouldn't be here otherwise.”About Allison Merritt:A love of reading inspired Allison Merritt to pursue her dream of becoming an author who writes historical, paranormal and fantasy romances, often combining the sub-genres. Cowboys Don’t Cry by Vickie TaylorBlurb:A broken cowboy with nothing left to lose…except his heart.Dash Connaway is hell-bent down a highway to nowhere. But he can’t outrun fate. Just a few months ago, he’d had a new album shooting up the country music charts, a luxury tour bus prepped for gigs in 39 cities, and a live-in girl friend he’d been thinking of asking to marry him. Now he’s just another drifter with an old guitar, a beat-up pickup, and a dog named Bill for a bed mate…until he meets Maggie McCain.Maggie isn’t your ordinary Oregon rancher. She’s more into organic gardening and hand-spinning yarn from the fleece of her prized alpacas than breeding stinky old cattle. She’s a nurturer, a giver, so when Dash steps into her life from nowhere, she’s ready to trade in her solitary existence on the farm in favor of a husband to grow old with and a passel of children to care for.But when she learns the real reason for Dash’s commitment to life on the road, she’s faced with a difficult choice and a lesson in the fallacy behind the old saying “Cowboys don’t cry.” Only time will tell just how potent the healing power of love can really be.Excerpt:“It’s a girl,” he pronounced cradling the newborn alpaca in his arms. The woman wiped her grimy chin with the back of her grimier hand. Tears tracked through the dirt on her cheeks. “You did it.” She pushed to her feet, but her legs looked none too steady. She picked up the rifle and leaned on it like a crutch.Dash went to her, ready to catch her if she fell. “We did it,” he corrected.“Yes, we did.”He smiled and reached out to her free arm. It was meant to be a celebratory brush, a comfort…but it lingered a moment too long. The air changed.Without warning, she swung her rifle up and rested the barrel against his chest. “Now who the hell are you, and what are you doing on my land?”About Vickie Taylor:Vickie Taylor published her first book in 1999 and quickly rose to the ranks of national best-selling and award-winning author. The Heartsong Cowboy by Melissa KeirBlurb:Can two people, one horse and the power of love cure a little girl?Angela French blames herself for her daughter’s lack of voice. Helping children becomes one way to correct his past. Using equine therapy, he sets out to make a difference. Can Jake help Angela’s dreams come true or will Jake’s past bring more heartache? Will love save them all?Excerpt:With Taylor asleep on the couch, Angela snuck the magazine out of her daughter’s sleeping hands before carrying her to her bed. After making sure her baby was tucked in, she turned out the lights and went to the kitchen. She sat down at the table to study the article about the horse whisperer. The photos gave off a peaceful feeling—so much so, she longed to jump into the images. Along with the horses, there were shots of children laughing and petting the animals. The article mentioned a little boy with Down’s Syndrome whose language increased after a week of animal therapy. The Heartsong Ranch. Even the name sounds encouraging. Dare I get my hopes up?One photo in particular captured her attention. The owner, Jake Kyncade, wore jeans and a cowboy hat as he stood next to the ranch sign. She took a deep breath as butterflies circled in her abdomen. He’s sexy. Very different from Mike. Mr. Kyncade has this wounded look in his eyes. I wonder what his trauma was. I’ve gotten better at noticing it in others. Still, he’s good looking. Probably married with his own children.About Melissa Keir:Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn’t hoping for a career as a race car driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother and grandparents who were avid readers. Although the sisters are as different as sun is from the moon, Paige fell in love with the same man as her famous swimsuit model sister. She finds Chase in Cabo San Lucas nursing his broken heart in the true country song fashion—with a bottle of Jose Cuervo—and reminds him of the desire he once felt for her. Will this singing cowboy change his tune as they set the tropical nights on fire? Or will Paige be the one singing the blues when her sister shows up wanting her man back?Excerpt:All of his hopes and dreams shattered on what should have been the happiest day of his life. Today, instead of settling in for their two-week vacation and only getting out of bed to eat, he was nursing a bottle of Jose Cuervo. Why had he come here? His brother was right; he could have easily eaten the cost of the trip. Chase had insisted that he had to escape for a little while, lick his wounds and come up with a plan before he had to go back on tour in a few weeks. Jack accused him of wanting to punish himself. Why else would he go to the place he and Kayla were to have their honeymoon? Had he come here to remind himself of what should have been? He shook his head, hoping to dislodge the thoughts, and turned to gaze out the other side of the bar.A woman stood on the walkway staring at him through a pair of Aviators. Her long blonde ponytail shimmered in the sun like spun gold. He narrowed his eyes. Was he now hallucinating? She entered the bar and headed toward him. Sitting on the stool beside him, she removed her sunglasses to reveal a pair of expressive hazel eyes. “Surprise.”“Paige? Cowboy Bred, Cowboy Born by D’Ann LindunBlurb: Freedom or family? Only love can make the choice.Photographer Alannah Murphy refuses to be tied down. She watched her parents struggle to hold onto their dairy farm until it killed them. The mere thought of the same fate makes her shudder. When she meets rancher Sterling Gentry she has to face her fears, or lose him. Sterling Gentry longs for someone to hand his ranch down to. Like his father before him, he has sacrificed everything to hold onto the land his ancestors settled. But finding Ms. Right proves harder than he imagined. Then he meets Alannah Murphy with her big city ways. How he can ever take a chance with a woman exactly like his mother, who abandoned him when he was a child? Despite their determination to stay the course they’ve each chosen, attraction pulls them together as steadily as a nail to a magnet. Can these two find a way to mesh Alannah’s need for freedom and Gentry’s desire to hold onto his land?Excerpt:Still snapping photos, the woman approached him. When she came within speaking distance, she waved. “Hello.”“Who the hell are you? And what are you doing in the middle of the road? Don’t you know better than to stand in the way when somebody’s herding stock?”Her mouth opened and closed a couple times. “I didn’t think—”“Hell no, you didn’t think,” Gentry shouted. “Damn it anyway.”“I’m sorry,” she said in a small voice. “The shot was just so good…”The shot? She’d ruined hours upon hours of exhausting work because she’d wanted a picture? Who the hell would do something so stupid? Only a damn greenhorn. For the first time he noticed her get-up. A straw hat only a city girl would wear, floaty pink top with tiny straps that left her bare shoulders exposed to the unforgiving Arizona sun, cut-off jean shorts and red cowboy boots. Daisy Duke personified. He shook his head in disgust. Reality crashed over him. The New York photographer his mother had enticed out here, hoping an article in The Cowboy magazine would bring attention to the Santa Gertrudis cattle they raised. Damn.About D’Ann Lindun:Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories! A Kept Woman on Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

This week my 8 sentence snippet for Weekend Writing Warriors is from my erotic contemporary – A Kept Woman. Scene Set up – Derek has sent Arianne up to the apartment – alone, to check it out. (forgive the creative editing to get it to 8 sentences :-) )
As her eyes stared at the numbers as they counted up to floor fifty-six, she put her hand on her chest to try and calm her pounding heart. This is so stupid. I’m not that kind of a girl! Something caught her attention. She sniffed. His cologne? Elevators don’t smell of men’s cologne. Most of them just smell.

Blurb – A Kept Woman – Daryl Devore -Erotic Contemporary Heat – 5 hot peppers
Desperately unemployed, Arianne, answers an ad that reads Woman Wanted. With miniscule hours and excellent pay, she accepts the position of courtesan to Derek, a handsomely dashing man, whom she discovers is a billionaire. Spotlight on Jade Cain's One Way Or Another

Neither of them counted on the red hot chemistry that has them fighting to keep their hands off each other.
When the gossip mags suggest that their epic off-screen bromance is just a front for a sizzling affair, the two men have to play the Hollywood game, and find the line between keeping things private and denying who they are to one another.
UPFRONT, PILOT, HIATUS, SWEEPS, and FINALE: five hot, sweet stories of three actors, two second chances, and one romance that’ll shock an entire television viewing audience.
Excerpt:
A blonde from TV Guide fires the opening salvo. “You guys have to be so excited to be co-starring with Samantha Jensen. What’s she like to work with?”
“She’s great,” Ethan says truthfully. “We’re old friends. It’s nice to have a chance to work together again.”
“Yeah, you oughta see the two of them on set,” Isaac says. “Trading hair secrets. I think Sam’s trying to teach him how to braid her hair.”
“We gotta do something to keep ourselves busy while the makeup people are oiling you up for your next scene,” Ethan retorts. There’s an easy warmth moving back and forth between them that has nothing to do with the champagne. They’ve been sassing at each other since the first day of shooting. Having an audience to play for just ups the stakes.
“So does that mean we get to see more scenes of you shirtless?” the reporter asks, all but batting her lashes at Isaac.
“You would not believe the money they saved on wardrobe,” Ethan says. “I’m surprised they bothered with pants, have you seen this guy? I started going to the gym just to keep from vanishing behind him.”
The reporters are laughing, which is good for two reasons: they aren’t asking stupid questions, and if they like Ethan and Isaac, they’ll give the show a favorable write up.
After a few minutes of back and forth, the reporters wander on to the next group. “Hair-braiding?” Ethan raises an eyebrow. “Man, that was lame.”
Isaac laughs. “Come on, give me a break. I can’t be witty all the time.”
“Yeah, I know how it is,” Ethan says, sipping from his glass. “Gotta be hard, coasting on nothing but good looks and talent.”
“Sucks to be us, huh?”
Ethan grins. “You saying I’m hot? I’ll take that.”
“Dude, how hard did you hit it last night?” Isaac eyes him with a sly grin. Ethan’s first thought is for the guy Karen sent packing that morning. Does he know? “You were looking rough when you showed up this afternoon.”
Oh, the hangover. “Yeah, my agency party was last night,” Ethan says.
“Don’t get me wrong, ‘rough’ works for you. I’ve seen you show up for shit looking like you rolled out of bed five minutes before and were still half-drunk, and you still wound up on the cover of something.” Isaac shakes his head admiringly. “I forget to shave and people start gossiping about what’s gone wrong.”
“Yeah well, at least you don’t wind up on ‘Top Ten Disney Stars Gone Wild’.” Ethan drains his glass. He tries not to think about Isaac, unshaved and rumpled, lying on equally rumpled sheets, half-awake and wholly-sexy. Stop fantasizing about your co-workers, Kovac.

Black Dorn on WIP It Up Wednesday #wipitup

Welcome to Erotic Notions and WIP It Up Wednesday. This snippet is a continuation from my erotic medieval romance - Black Dorn. Set Up – Branwyn and her serving girl are having an early morning chat. Leah is bathing Branwayn.
(for those who haven't started at the beginning with this – Duna means instructor – so Duna Trea is Branwyn's instructor. A Dune is one who is to be instructed. Branwyn is a Dune. Gon means King and lastly Gon Dra means Heir to the Throne.)
"Leah, tell me about my rescuer. He is a handsome man. Brutish, but handsome." Leah giggled. "The other serving girls have heard their dunes say he is the handsomest man in all the land. His name is Gon-Dra Malack. He will become Gon Malack when he inherits the castle and rules all." "You said the gon will inherit the castle, lands and people. How can he inherit people?" Branwyn knelt so Leah could pour water down her back. "As gon, he will rule you. That I understand. But, own you?" She sighed. "Alas, again, I do not understand." Leah rubbed soap into a towel and carefully wiped Branwyn's face then rinsed it. "The land is his to inherit." "I understand. What is a king without land." "What is a gon without people. Did your family not sell you?" Leah sat back on her haunches. She brushed the sweat off her forehead.""Yes." Branwyn chewed her bottom lip. "Although I refuse to think about it that is exactly what happened to me. I was sold as my uncle would have sold one of his cows."

Despite knowing intellectually that Max would turn on the charm tonight, she could never have been prepared for this onslaught. His full court press was powerful. Seductive.“So tell me, Sabrina. Why have you sworn off men?” Max threaded his fingers through hers and relaxed back in his chair. She listened to the instrumental version of Unforgettable and weighed how much to share. “It’s a long story.”“We have all night.”“Longer even.” Her mouth dried up which left her tongue stuck inside it like a strip of beef jerky.“I won’t be distracted. We’ll come back to that comment.”“You are tenacious. Very well, you should hear the truth at some point.” She took a sip of her wine in need of both the moisture and the fortification. “I got tired of settling for Mr. Wrong-But-Very-Convenient. After a string of horribly shallow and often incredibly dumb men I had to bring it all to a halt. I called a hiatus to give myself some practice at being alone.”The first course arrived.“And that was six months ago?”“Yes. I’ve been working on figuring out what I want.”“What conclusions have you come to?” He ate his amuse-bouche.“Abstinence is easy when you aren’t actually tempted.” And that made having dinner with him either the most courageous thing she’d ever done, or the absolute dumbest.“No list of character traits you’re looking for in a future mate?” His throat worked up and down as he took a swallow of wine. She couldn’t have peeled her gaze from the tantalizing sight if her dress had caught fire.“I’m a bit more fluid than that. I leave the strategies and obsessive list making to Elle. I’m more of the I’ll-know-it-when-I-see-it type.”“Hhmm…doesn’t give a man much to go on.”“I don’t need a man who is trying to conform to a detailed list of requirements. I need a man who knows who he is and is willing to learn who I am. I need a man who can live with the realities those truths entail. Prince Charming need not apply.”“Duly noted. So, what time do you turn into a pumpkin, Cinderella?”“Midnight.”

Jenny Kane's contemporary romance- Romancing Robin Hood

Romancing Robin Hood by Jenny Kane (@jennykaneauthor) Blurb
Dr Grace Harper has loved the stories of Robin Hood ever since she first saw them on TV as a girl. Now, with her fortieth birthday just around the corner, she’s a successful academic in Medieval History, with a tenured position at a top university.
But Grace is in a bit of a rut. She’s supposed to be writing a textbook on a real-life medieval gang of high-class criminals – the Folvilles – but she keeps being drawn into the world of the novel she’s secretly writing – a novel which entwines the Folvilles with her long-time love of Robin Hood – and a feisty young girl named Mathilda, who is the key to a medieval mystery…
Meanwhile, Grace’s best friend Daisy – who’s as keen on animals as Grace is on the Merry Men – is unexpectedly getting married, and a reluctant Grace is press-ganged into being her bridesmaid. As Grace sees Daisy’s new-found happiness, she starts to re-evaluate her own life. Is her devotion to a man who may or may not have lived hundreds of years ago really a substitute for a real-life hero of her own? It doesn’t get any easier when she meets Dr Robert Franks – a rival academic who Grace is determined to dislike but finds herself being increasingly drawn to…

As she crashed onto her worn leather desk chair Grace, after two decades of indecision, still couldn’t decide which of the two actors she preferred in the title role of Robin of Sherwood. That was how it had all started, ‘The Robin Hood Thing’ as Daisy referred to it, with an instant and unremitting love for a television show. Yet, for Grace, it hadn’t been a crush in the usual way. She had only watched one episode of the hit eighties series and, with the haunting theme tune from Clannad echoing in her ears, had run upstairs to her piggy bank to see how much money she’d saved, and how much more cash she’d need, before she could spend all her pocket money on the complete video collection. After that, the young Grace had done every odd job her parents would pay her for so she could purchase a myriad of Connery and Praed posters with which to bedeck her room. But that was just the beginning. Within weeks Grace had become pathologically and forensically interested in anything and everything to do with the outlaw legend as a whole. She’d watched all the Robin Hood films, vintage scenes of Douglas Fairbanks Jr and Errol Flynn, Richard Greene, Sean Connery, and Barry Ingram. As time passed, she winced and cringed her way through Kevin Costner’s comical but endearing attempt, and privately applauded Patrick Bergin’s darker and infinitely more realistic approach to the tale. Daisy had quickly learnt to never ever mention Russell Crowe’s adaption of the story – it was the only time she’d ever heard Grace swear using words that could have been as labelled as Technicolor as the movie had been. The teenage Grace had read every story, every ballad, and every academic book, paper, and report on the subject. She’d hoarded pictures, paintings, badges, and stickers, along with anything and everything else she could find connected with Robin Hood, his band of outlaws, his enemies, Nottingham, Sherwood, Barnsdale, Yorkshire – and so it went on and on. The collection, now over twenty years in the making, had reached ridiculous proportions and had long since overflowed from her small terraced home to her university office, where posters lined the walls, and books about the legend, both serious and comical, crammed the overstuffed shelves. Her undergraduates who’d chosen to study medieval economy and crime as a history degree option, and her postgraduates whose interest in the intricate weavings of English medieval society was almost as insane as her own, often commented on how much they liked Dr Harper’s office. Apparently it was akin to sitting in a mad museum of medievalism. Sometimes Grace was pleased with this reaction. Other times it filled her with depression, for that office, its contents, and the daily, non-stop flow of work was her life – her whole life – and sometimes she felt that it was sucking her dry. Leaving literally no time for anything else – nor anyone else. Boyfriends had come and gone, but few had any hope of matching up to the figure she’d fallen in love with as a teenager. A man who is quite literally a legend is a hard act to follow... ***
