She tugged his ear. "Are you coming to watch me dance?"He nodded and cringed as she squealed in delight in that high note that only little girls can reach. He glanced around. "Where's Kalvin?""Dubai. Business." Lanna lifted a finger to stop his protest. "Yes, he's away and you're here, and you are going to enjoy this.""Wow. You sound more like Mom every day." He deposited his niece in her car seat, secured her seatbelt, climbed into the front passenger side, and clicked his restraint shut. "This is nice. When did you get it?""Last week. Kim didn’t stop. She marched on, heading for the path, her bare feet kicking up sand. As she crested the dunes near the house, she stopped, paused, then glanced back. The beach fire was out, the smoke rising, being shredded by the wind. Derek was already walking away, a shadow drifting along the edge of the tide, slowly retreating from her. She felt a catch in her throat. God, how she wanted him.

She turned her cold eyes on the house, a dark and foreboding prison cell. With her jaw set in defiant determination, she turned, aiming her eyes on Derek’s dark receding shadow.

Derek wasn’t aware he was being followed until he’d nearly reached his cottage. Colin barked from his stylish doghouse shed.

Kim advanced slowly, having been to this part of the beach only once. It was unpretentious, far from the main road, in a low-slung neighborhood of quaint, private beach bungalows, with a good view of the dunes and ocean.

Her back was pressed up against the wall; there wasn’t even an inch to spare. Julian bent and kissed her neck. People yelled at each other outside the bus, and voices hummed inside, as well. “We don’t have any privacy.”

Julian kissed the sweet spot right behind her ear. “That’s true,” he whispered. “Anybody could walk in.” The bus shook as things were loaded into the storage wells.

“Excuse me,” someone said, just outside the door. “Hey, has anybody seen Lazros?”

Julian put his hand over Cleo’s mouth. “Shh…”

He unbuckled his belt, and she heard his zipper go down.

“I’m in my bunk,” he said to the door. “What do you want?”

Oh, God. He was actually going to carry on a conversation with someone just a few steps away while he…what would he do next?

His knee went between her legs, forcing them apart. Oh.

“Wayne wants to know if you’ll be keeping your Les Paul with you or if you want him to take care of it.” The voice was so close. Right outside the door!

“I’ll keep it,” Julian answered. Then he slipped his fingers between her thighs, inside her panties, and she closed her eyes and tried not to whimper. Julian’s voice was right at her ear. “Oh, Cleo,” he whispered. “Somebody is a naughty girl.” She totally was.
