May 2013 Update~

Dear Readers,

Well, April didn’t bring us any showers and New Mexico certainly doesn’t have any May flowers. All we have is cold, dry, and wind. It’s been freezing, windy and totally miserable to be outside. But I know you didn’t check in to get a weather report. No, I think you all want to know what is up with the Eternity books. So here’s the scoop:

I’ll be doing several updates this month. I’ve seen drafts of the cover art, and it should be ready to post soon. Keep in mind that since the three Eternity books are all releasing May 28, that three covers needed to be done. And with the same models. So that was a lot of work to pile on the artist, who has been working hard to make sure that when the cover reveal happens, your socks will be knocked off. Based on the drafts, I think everyone is going to be stunned how gorgeous they are. I can’t wait to show them off. There will be bookmarks and postcards for giveaway, too. The books will be in print, and I’ll be doing some giveaways later in June and July. For those who are wondering, yes, I am outlining book 4, Rise of the Beast, now. The publisher is shooting for release in later 2013.

So that is the latest. Brief, but I hope that gives everyone a reason to keep checking back through the month. I’ll also be posting announcements on Twitter and Facebook, as they arrive.

Now, if only May would bring us some much needed rain, everything would be perfect!

Until the cover reveal…

Devyn

April 2013 Update~

Dear Readers,

Welcome to April. I’ve got some news, and now that plans are in motion, it’s no fooling around here. After a year and a half away from the computer, I am writing again. The first thing readers were asking for is another Eternity book. So here’s the news: Genesis Awry is scheduled for a late May 2013 release. But there’s more. After talking with the publisher, we decided to pull and re-edit the first two books (Echoes of Angels and Descent of Demons) and freshen up the text to match the times. When I write the books in the later 80′s, things like internet, cell phones, etc… were not common and an iPad wasn’t even a twinkle in Steve Jobs’ eyes. So we decided to give the books a going over and bring them up with current times, as well as smooth some of the purple prose I was prone to use as a new writer, LOL. But here’s better news. The books are going to lose their manga-style covers and get a complete update to something a little more palatable to paranormal romance readers. I am dying to see the new covers, and will post them just as soon as I get them. All three books will release on the same day, a triple treat for readers. I will be doing some giveaways once the print editions come in. Can’t wait to see them!

Once Genesis Awry is complete–this week, I hope!– I plan to jump in to a few other books that have been simmering on the back burner.

So that’s the latest! have to get back to the WIP!

Cheers,

Devyn

March 2013 Update~

Hi, Readers,

Looks like the end of February hit New Mexico with a blizzard. We were so happy to see some moisture, after a winter season of wind and dirt storms. We sure could use more, so if you’ve got rain, send it our way!

Unfortunately, February was also a month of loss and one of the cats and two ferrets went on to little animal heaven. As always, I am heartbroken. We are also having an illness in the family. Those of you who have been through it know having a family member with cancer isn’t pleasant, and you deal with things day by day. There are good ones and bad ones, and so/so ones. Since you only get one day at a time, you just do the best you can. Since my writing schedule has become hit and miss, I have cancelled my release schedule for the time being. I am writing as I can, but I have good days and bad days there, too, and sometimes a lot gets done, and sometimes nothing gets done for a week or so. That is just the way things are at the moment.

So on to writing news: To date, I have been unable to interest an agent in The Resurrectionist, my steampunk series. It’s been disappointing, but I am told the market for the genre is just not good and agents are just not picking up what editors are not buying. For the moment, I’ve set it on the back burner. Some queries are still pending, but I am guessing they will not bring positive results. I would like to be wrong, but I have a feeling I am not.

That isn’t to say I haven’t been writing. I am working on the 3rd Eternity book, Genesis Awry. I’ve even got a sneak peek for readers. You can download the first 6 chapters by using the link below:

A Sneak Peek at Genesis Awry! Download now!

Please keep in mind this is pre-publication and some text changes might take place during the final edit and publication. If you have problems opening or downloading the PDF file, email me at devynquinn @ aol dot com and I will send the file directly. I am looking forward to hearing what readers of the series think.

For those of you looking for the first two books, Echoes of Angels, (Book 1) is currently on sale at Mojocastle Press. I am told Descent of Demons, Book 2, is in the pipeline for release. Just as soon as I have a release date, I will get it posted.

So that is the latest. I hope this month finds everyone well and reading their favorite books!

Cheers,

Devyn

February 2013 Update~

Hi, Readers,

Sorry there was no update in January for the new year. Unfortunately the new year did not come in well here. Between dealing with the news of an illness in the family, the water heater going nuts and flooding the place,  and the passing of a ferret and two cats, January was kind of a bum month.

But there is some good news. I’m still querying agents on The Resurrectionist and am hoping for a reply to my submission this month. Better news is that Descent of Demons will be released by MojoCastle Press sometime in Feb. And to put the icing on the cake, I’ve been talking tot he publisher about a summer release for Genesis Awry, the third book in the Eternity series. Its been a long time in coming, I know, and readers have asked when it will be out. I’m writing on it now, and hope to turn it in to the publisher end of March. With luck, that will get it a May release (knock wood).

As for the Witching Hour series, there is interest from small publishers, but I am holding out the hope that I will snag an agent and be able to sell it to NY. Time will tell.

Now for a giveaway, which I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve been going through my storage and found some cover flats of Possession, my RT award-winning book. These are unusual, because they are not folded and punched with a hole like many cover flats are. If you would like a chance to have one, drop me a note at devynquinn at aol dot com. I’ll do a drawing at the end of the month, and if your name is picked, you get a signed cover flat.

Until then, happy reading!

Wishing all my readers a happy holiday season! Please send out good thoughts to those affected by the recent storms. If you can, please donate to the Red Cross or other rescue organizations. And don’t forget the pets! Animal rescues need help, too. Be safe, warm and smile often!

October 2012 Update #2~

Dear Readers,

I have some bad news, and it pains me to write this. Unfortunately a problem has arisen with the planned October prizes. The copies of Echoes of Angels arrived, but were in an unacceptable condition to offer to readers. Therefore, I will be giving away copies of the Dark Tides books. Siren’s Call, Siren’s Surrender  or Siren’s Desire will be given out as prizes to 10 readers instead.

You can still leave a comment to be entered for the giveaway here. I am sorry for the trouble, but I could not send out books that looked so unprofessional . My readers expect a quality product for their money.

Unfortunately this also means that book 2, Descent of Demons. has been cancelled for print, and the third book, Genesis Awry, has been delayed indefinitely. Perhaps when the current contracts end, I will be able to take the books back and re-release them myself. Until then, they will have to sit on ice.  Although I am disappointed, that’s just the way things panned out.

Thanks for your understanding! Meanwhile, I need to get back tot he Blaze WIP and The Resurrectionist. Good thing I had a lot of new books in my stack to work on! :)

October 2012 Update (and giveaway!)~

Dear Readers,

It’s the time of year  I’ve been waiting for! October, and Halloween. And why am I so excited? Because I am thrilled to announce that Echoes of Angels – given 4-1/2 stars from Romantic Times magazine! is now in print!

So why is this series making a comeback after ten years? Because I’ve got more news. Genesis Awry, Book 3,  will be releasing in Spring 2013! I’ve always held off releasing the third. Most excuses ranged from it wasn’t ready to be read to I’m working on other books. Well, the time has come for me to pull the third book out and get it ready for release.  2013 will see cranky Irish assassin Morgan Saint-Evanston back in action.

Right now, Echoes of Angels is also available in eBook through most booksellers (Amazon, B&N, etc…), and print! Note: Descent of Demons, Book 2,  is returning to print and eBook  Nov 2012, with expanded text!

So what’s Book 1 all about?

Synopsis: Julienne Hunter had it all. And she used it–her beauty, wit and grace–with a heedless and reckless daring to climb to the pinnacle of success in the world of high fashion. There was no tomorrow in her glittering world and no secrets that her charm could not hide.

But old bodies will not stay buried and Julienne is about to learn the truth of her own lost past. Crushing tragedy lures Julienne back to the family home her mother, Cassandra, abandoned over twenty-one years ago–and straight into the unwelcome embrace of the man her mother feared.

Morgan Saint-Evanston.

Dark. Brooding. Sexy as hell. He’s everything a woman desires, yet his own dark secrets have tainted his heart and blackened his soul. He is a man Julienne will dare to take as her lover even as he plunges her into an occult realm where human souls are open barter and swords and sorcery still rule…

Download the first 3 chapters here!

Now the bigger news: For Halloween, I’ll be giving away 10 print copies! So how do you get one? Leave a comment with your email address and a flattering comment (just kidding) and you’ll automatically be entered into the drawing. On Halloween night, I will pick the winners! NOTE: The COMMENTS link is at the top of the post by the header! When you leave a comment, it should log automatically. If you have a problem email: devynquinn@aol.com to be entered manually.

And now the rest…The Resurrectionist is still with the agent. Hoping for word from her soon. The wait is agony. The Blaze project is on hold while I spiff up Genesis Awry for release. So much to write and so little time!

Happy reading!

September 2012 update~

[image error]Dear Readers,

Welcome to the 9th month of the year, that time when summer begins to wind down and the winds of fall start knocking the leaves off the trees. Not to mention there is a slight easing in the summer’s heat. Living in one of the states hit so hard with drought these last few years, I can truly say that we are looking forward to the coming winter, and hoping the snows will fly and bring us some much-needed moisture. We’ve seen a little rain off and on, but hardly enough to restore the water levels to our wells. Cross your fingers some good old-fashioned snowy blizzards hit these desert plains.

But you aren’t here for a weather report, are you. No, I bet you want to know what’s happening with the books I’ve promised to write. First, I’ll have to admit up front that I have a lot of irons in the fire. Unfortunately everything takes time and not everyone works on my schedule, which means I think everything should happen yesterday and immediately. So, I’m going to give you the honest truth.

The Resurrectionist has been temporarily put on TBA status. This isn’t because I am not working on the book, but because I decided it was such a damn good idea that it warranted a look-see by an agent for possible representation to the big houses. Yes, I have it in the hands of an agent now. I am waiting for a decision to find out if she will take me on as a client. If she does, that will be a big who-hoo! I really would love to work with her, as she reps some of my favorite authors. I am hoping to have an answer some time in September.

With that book brewing, I began drafting out the novella “Why Not Me?” This was announced as a short. Well, the idea blossomed into a much longer book, which I have decided to aim toward Harlequin’s Blaze imprint. I’ll be working on that through September. Should they accept it, wonderful! If not, I’m going to submit it toward a few other outlets I’ve got in mind. One way or another, it will appear. Just don’t know where and when yet. When I know, you will, too.

Lastly, I am still working on  the first Witching Hours book, Incantation – which I plan to put out sometime next year. This series will loosely tie into the world-building of the “Eternity” books. Speaking of those, I am told that Echoes of Angels will soon be out in print. I am hoping it will be in time for the Halloween giveaway I am planning. Descent of Demons (Book 2) is also planned for release in print and eBook.

So there you have it. As much as I wish it were easy, a writer’s career is never a smooth or painless road to travel. There are delays, depressions, failures and, sometimes, even successes to celebrate. This last year has been a lot of ups and downs, stops and starts, splutters and splats. I’m still hanging in there, though, and hope you’ll hang with me as the adventure continues.

Cheers!
