Emotion repitition

The idea for the post comes from Josh Hoyt at The Blog that Helps You Diagnose Your Character, That's a mouth full, but his blog is very educational.

Emotional repetition. I love writing from a man's POV, but I realize my feminine emotions can somewhat prejudice my perceptions. What was happening, a lot, was one or the other or, even, all of my male characters were crying a lot. It bothered me every time I reread for editing. Well, I learned somewhere in the process of learning to write, that...

The winner is

Actually, I have two winners to my Write the First Line contest. All the entries were thought provoking and helpful. The two I would be most inclined to use as an opening line come from Summer Ross at The Inner Fairy and Sue H at I Refuse to go Quietly.

Congratulations. To claim your prize, please click on my email logo and leave your addresses. Thanks to all who entered. Though there weren't many, I figured this is my first time to run a contest, so it went well thanks to you.

Opening Line Contest

I'm horrible with opening lines. No matter how clever I think I am, it's never clever enough. So I got to thinking, there's a lot of talent sitting in my peeps queue. Peeps mean resources, and resourcefulness is what I need. So here's what I was thinking I'd do. I'm going to give away a copy of Bum's Rush to the person who writes the best opening line for my book, That Girl. Not only that, if I use it, that person will get a mention in the acknowledgment section. Wow, huh? So read the followi...

I'm getting closer

I'm back to posting whenever I feel like it. So I'm going to post twice today, go figure.

On my current WIP, That Girl, I've hit 40K words. It puts me 67% to goal. It's a lot of words, but so will be the next 20K. If I had nothing more to do than to sit and write all day, I would write a thousand words a day for the next twenty days. It's doable, providing the words flow from my fingers at lightening speed. I'm on the second draft, maybe third draft, at this point in my writing I've been over ...

"Y" is for

Youth:

I always say, and it's as true now as it has been since the beginning when God gave us Adam and Eve, Youth is wasted on the young. They are born into this world, prejudice, old is something they'll never be. I know this is true, because it was my prejudice, at least up until the last five years. I have fought it tooth and nail and I'm slowly losing the battle. That's not to say, you can't be healthy and fit, oh no. It depends on how you treat yourself as a youth, even if you start in mi...

"X" is for . . .

What can I say? Use each of these words in a sentence.

* Xanadu (n) - an exotic, luxurious place. This word comes from the poem "Kubla Khan" by Samuel T. Coleridge.
* Xanax (n) - a pharmaceutical drug that is used to treat depression and anxiety.
* Xanthic (n) - yellowish in color; having to do with the compound xanthine.
* Xebec: A xebec is a special three-masted sailing ship used in the Mediterranean.
* Xenolith (n) - a fragment of a rock embedded inside another rock.

"U" and "V" are for . . .

Victory:
Victory is upon us with this challenge. I've faltered along the way, but I've put the effort out, albeit, toward the end, the enthusiasm has also faltered. It's just a very busy week for me. I'm proud of my fellow A - Zers who have hung in there faithfully.

Yum:
I love to eat. Sadly, I'm short and every thing I eat leaves a mark. But once in awhile, I love to eat ice cream, cinnabons, pasta, roast beaf, Oh stop. We're going a a Christmas cruise and I need to get my body ready for a wint...
