REVIEW: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
Dear Ms. McGuire:
Angela James loaned this book to me and I went on to purchase my own copy ($1.99 using the Kobodollaroff coupon). This book is often recommended on the goodreads forums and it is highly rated. I totally understand the appeal because it is a very readable book plus I think that there are hookable elements such as a fantastical ideal of the bad boy who transforms for one person only. The voice of the author is compelling and her command of the characters make the book seem all ...

The horse's hooves thunder across the hillside, and with each bunching of its muscles, I feel my heart pound. My hair breaks free of its pins, and pale strands sweep across my cheek. The warmth from the horse's sides radiates through my thin breeches, and I'm...

REVIEW: Duck! by Kim Dare
Dear Ms. Dare.
[image error]You have a knack for writing characters who are all different, no matter how many times you seem to write them into similar situations or how similar they seem at the start. And your conflicts are entirely character-based, so the conflicts are all different. I find your construction of BDSM sometimes requires a lot of suspension of disbelief but as you get the emotions right, no matter how far-fetched some of the scenarios, I (usually) don't really mind.
In my shopping sprees...

Friday Film Review: Foul Play
Foul Play (1978)
Genre: Comedy/Thriller
Grade: Cute
"Far out."
[image error]Yes, I remember this movie when it was first shown on HBO. I know that dates me but, what the hell. It's kind of a comedy crossed with a thriller crossed with a view of life back in 1978 when people said "shake your booty" and actually meant it.

REVIEW: Lily by Patricia Gaffney
[image error]Dear Ms. Gaffney,
When I heard the news that many of your romance titles were being released as ebooks by Open Road Integrated Media, I felt a pang of jealousy for those newer romance readers who would have the opportunity to discover your work for the first time. When the opportunity came to interview you, Jane suggested that perhaps some reviews of these older books wouldn't be amiss. It was natural for me to review Lily, since once upon a time it was among my top five favorite romances.
Now,...
Thursday News: BN Is Selling Off Assets, Trad Regency Book Deals
I'm not certain what this means, but it is possible that the privately held BN is trying to leverage its different components into another sale. First, it is actively seeking to sell Sterling, it's print publishing arm. Today's press release also touts some great Nook numbers and the announcement that it will explore the benefits of spinning off the Nook division, the only growth segment of BN.

REVIEW: Dark Soul Vol. 1 by Aleksandr Voinov
Dear Mr. Voinov,
With the exception of The Lion of Kent, which I enjoyed reading last year but which didn't stick in my mind, I haven't read your work (even though I've heard many good things about it). Your choice of settings and characters aren't the type I usually seek out, but when I saw that you were publishing a series of contemporary short stories I was intrigued. I don't generally read genre fiction with criminals as the protagonists, but something in the blurbs resonated with me, and ...

REVIEW: Dumpersterotica by Allie Beck
Dear Ms. Beck,
One of the great things about self publishing is that books that don't fit the mold can still find an audience. Unfortunately for readers, this also means that a great many things that should remain unpublished are now available for consumption. This book series falls into the latter category. I'm not sure who would be the target audience for this 'erotica' series. It's not sexy. It's not funny. It's just strange and bizarre.
