REVIEW: Immortal Hope by Claire Ashgrove

Dear Ms. Ashgrove:

This book came to my attention because someone mentioned that you were the same author as Tori St. Claire. I reviewed your erotic romance, Stripped, earlier this month. Immortal Hope's world building follows in a long line of paranormal romance books that feature the wounded hero who needs to find his mate to make him whole again. I'm a big fan of this trope so while this book didn't work for me, I am hopeful the next one in the series will.

In Praise of the Personal Review

Over the past few weeks, we've seen a lot of bluster in the YA community over what reviews "should be" and how they should be written and defined and what they should and should not contain. It's a conversation that was very common in the online Romance community not so many years ago, and the topic still breaks the not-so-still waters periodically.

I won't rehash the arguments made over the past few weeks, but I will provide a link round-up for anyone trying to catch up on the crazy:

A nice...

REVIEW: Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

Dear Ms. Carey,

Kushiel's Dart, your fantasy novel, is the story of Phedre, who begins life in the Night Court of Terre D'Ange. The Night Court is peopled by prostitutes, known in this world as Servants of Naamah, the goddess of such things.

[image error]Terre D'Ange is modeled on Renaissance France, but with some substantial differences, including a religion worshipping an angel/god named Blessed Elua, believed to be a child of the messiah's blood and the Magdelene's tears, and Elua's companions, angels...

Monday News & Deals: Tablet and eReader Ownership on the Rise

News

1 in 3 Americans own either an e reader or a tablet.  Tablet growth is primarily in upper income households but ereader ownership is more diverse:

The story with the growth in e-book readers was somewhat different from the story with tablet computers. Ownership of e-readers among women grew more than among men. Those with more education and higher incomes also lead the pack when it comes to e-book ownership, but the gap between them and others isn't as dramatic. For instance, 19% of those...

REVIEW: Player's Ultimatum by Koko Brown

Dear Ms. Brown:

As a self professed lover of sports romances, I get quite a few recommendations for books featuring athletes.  Sarah Wendell found this book and suggested we both read it despite the blurb that was poorly drafted and contained cliches.  Unfortunately for both of us the blurb was our first clue as to the quality of writing in this story.  There are several sentences in the book that actually portray the opposite of what was meant to be conveyed.  There are formatting errors...

Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for February 2012

Welcome to the February Promotional Thread for Authors. What's this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of January would be a February release)
You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting...

Getting eBooks from Calibre to Your Device Using Send to Device and the Connect/Share Functions.

Intro

Now that you have your Calibre database set up just the way you like it, you need to figure out how to get the books from your computer to your device.  You can use the tethered or the over the air (untethered) method.

Tethered

Tethered means to physically attach your device to your computer using the USB cord.  Calibre recognizes almost every mainstream device from the Kobo, Sony, nook, Kindle, Cybook, and the iOS devices.

Send to Device

Once you plugin the device, you should see a "Send...
