REVIEW: Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

Dear Colleen Hoover:

Even though I was not overly enamored of the first book in this series, Slammed, when I finished it I started Point of Retreat right away. I was interested enough in the lives of the characters at that point to want to see how things played out.

Warning: there are spoilers for Slammed in the review ahead.

Point of Retreat begins about a year after the bulk of Slammed ends, and a few days after the epilogue at the end of that book. Lake Cohen’s mother has been dead about four...

REVIEW: Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Please note that there are major plot spoilers throughout this review.

Dear Ms. Hoover,

I’ve been trying to keep a lookout for new YA books to try, so when NetGalley touted this book and its sequel in an email, I requested the titles. Unfortunately, I don’t think these books are really what I’m looking for in YA: a compelling novel intended for a teen audience but sophisticated enough to appeal to older readers as well.

Thursday News: Bionic leg and more vampires; increased ebook market share; bundles of books

Man climbs Chicago skyscraper using bionic leg – Wow, so cool. NewsTimes

“The leg is designed to respond to electrical impulses from muscles in his hamstring. When Vawter thought about climbing the stairs, the motors, belts and chains in his leg synchronized the movements of its ankle and knee.

The computerized prosthetic limb, like something from a sci-fi film, weighs about 10 pounds and holds two motors.”

I Can’t Rule Out More Twilight Books – Oh Lord. Contactmusic.com

The DA3 Interview & Giveaway: Lois Lanes

Maybe not exactly Lois Lane, but each book in today’s DA³Interview features a heroine who works at a newspaper. Here, in order by chronological setting, are the books:

FIRST LINE: Some things are simply true: the earth rotates around the sun, Monday follows Sunday, and Miss Annabelle Swift loves Mr. Derek Knightly with a passion and purity that would be breathtaking were it not for one other simple truth: Mr. Derek Knightly pays no attention to Miss Annabelle Swift.
